    Duck Confit White Bean Cassoulet

I had to eat here after seeing the photos on Yelp. Looked like people either loved it or hated it from the reviews, but it looked like our kind of restaurant! I think for some people this is a little too pricey, but coming from San Diego, we see prices like this all the time. We thought it was totally worth it! We arrived just minutes after they opened around 4:00, after hiking all day. Seemed like a good time to go, we were the only ones there for a while, so of course we got great service! Not everything we saw online was on the menu, so they must have seasonal offerings, which is a sign of a really good restaurant! We started with the french onion soup. My husband kept saying it was the best French onion soup he's ever had! It was delicious! My husband ordered the beef bourguignon and I ordered the duck confit white bean cassoulet. I was between three things and the server said the cassoulet was their most popular dish. It was AMAZING!! I was hesitant with the idea of sausage in it, but it went so well with the white beans! You get three very distinct flavors with the three cuts of meat in the cassoulet. The duck was so good! The ham had a sweet maple flavor, and the sausage was more savory. All three paired SO WELL with the beans! We cleaned my plate completely and saved half of my husband's beef bourguignon. His was also very good, but the cassoulet was the star of the show! I also liked the somewhat rustic space, which didn't make us feel too underdressed or out of place in our hiking clothes. The bathrooms were also very nice and clean!

Food and service were great. Even though I did not expect much I was very pleasantly surprised. Must try!

Really amazing food. We had the mushroom and shrimp risotto, creamy pesto pasta, rigatoni with meat sauce, and bruschetta. My daughter is celiac (gluten free) and had no issues with the risotto. Top notch. Will be back.

The rave reviews don't lie! We stopped here to carb up with some pasta before our Grand Canyon Rim to Rim hike, and it did not disappoint. My friends and I ordered a variety of dishes, and every single one was excellent--we cleaned our plates! The interior design is well thought out, with warm, inviting decor that adds to the ambiance. The food quality was outstanding. This hidden gem is a must-visit if you're in the area!

Tonight's dinner was a highlight of our week thus far in Utah. Within the brochure of our house rental was a description of the Chef and that if you wanted he would come to your house to cook for your family or give a lesson. We tried to do this, but Chef said he did not do this anymore due to being short staffed at his restaurant for some time. We did the next best thing by coming to his restaurant in Kanab. We got to sit in the four bar seats which directly face the kitchen. Only one other family was in the restaurant at the time we came in at opening. Staff advised they have been busy on weekends and later evenings. For starters, we got the last two French onion soups, a chard salad, escargot, and a cheese plate. The soups were perfect. So tasty with the bead and melted cheese. I would have been fine with a few of those. My wife wished she got one if they had more to sell. The salad had a nice vinaigrette and two bacon strips along with candied fig (?). My kid loved the escargot. The cheese plate came tonight with a Brie, truffle, and a Parmesan. There was also a sweet mango salsa served with it. This was also excellent although not everyone liked all the choices. I did. For mains, I went with a medium rare ribeye which came with fries. A cream sauce was served with the steak which was a nice addition to the perfectly cooked and seasoned steak. My kid had the gnocchi. Pillowy soft with an outstanding cream base pesto. Wife had a Bolognese and it was one of the best she's had with a great blended flavor and lots of meat. My son had pork tagine which was like a peasant stew. He said it was very sweet and chowed it down. Dessert for me was three nice scoops of sorbet - pineapple (ok), blueberry (wow), and mint (OMG). My wife and son had the crème brûlée. It was fun to watch the chef flame them up and now my wife wants another kitchen gadget. My daughter had the Chef's special apple tart which came with some ice cream. It's the only thing I got a picture of but it also went quickly. Service was very friendly and attentive. Sitting and watching the food be prepared is always fun for me. I can imagine how it'd be with a full bustling restaurant. Highly recommended. $261 for four not including a generous tip.

Kanab having a French restaurant!!!! Wow!!! Ok before continuing to read- read some reviews and complaining of expensive food and servers are rude. Remember it's French food- tend to be expensive. And during this time- finding extra staff is hard on restaurants. My friends and friends that I refer to go to this place totally enjoyed our food. If you want cheap- go to the burger joint near McDonald. Our server was overwhelmed but with service as they were busy. We were able to seat outdoors. Both servers got all our orders correct. Filled out drinks when asked. The braised short rib stew was flavorful and cooked perfectly. My wife and friend enjoyed their two different risotto. Cooked perfectly. My son demolished his gnocchi and he has an expensive palate. Make sure you make desserts- salted caramel tart and creme brûlée were delicious. Ok the peach Danish was the only thing disappointing. Again, surprise to see a good French restaurant in Kanab.

Stopped by for dinner for our last day in Kanab and was a little disappointed. FOOD: Shrimp Risotto ($36) - The quality and quantity of the shrimp and cook was great. However the rice and sweet peas were a bit undercooked and the overall dish was incredibly salty. Brochette de Canard ($36) - I believe this translates to Duck Skewers. The cook on the duck was perfect. It was hard to cut the duck with the knife provided but the duck was tender enough to be able to bite through it. However, the rest of the dish was also so salty. Not sure if it was the polenta or sauce but it was overwhelming. Crème Brûlée ($10) - All dessert options were $10. I highly recommend this dish! It was so creamy and not too sweet. The cream on the side and the tartness of the blueberries balanced out really well with the dish. SERVICE: The hostess was a bit rude. We were seating and she got short with us for not taking out the silverware in the cups fast enough to pour our water. Thankfully, our server was extremely friendly and accommodating. I wish I could remember her name but she was so nice recommending our dessert and was extremely attentive considering she was the only server for ~10 tables. Overall, I don't think I'd come back to this place due to dishes being overpriced and too salty. However, I would come back for their desserts if they sell them for takeout.

Wow, chapeau to the chefs for this fantastic meal! This may be in the top meals that I've had. My duck confit was just excellent. Soft, crispy, delicious, on top of a salad with a little touch of endives for bitterness and apple and grapes for sweetness. The whole package was just tasty. I also had a bite of my wife's scallops, and that too was amazing. A surprising, briney flavor and some little pieces of potato dumplings that soaked up the flavors. I forgot to mention our escargot appetizer. It's hard not to like garlic and butter, but the perfect way to start a french meal. To top it off, the servers and hostess were hustling and working hard. They were short staffed, due to covid, but doing an excellent job. If you are traveling through Kanab, this is definitely a great place.

Nice place to dine as they have outdoor seating. Service was really good despite being short staffed, the starters were served fast, then followed by the main courses on a good time to where your stomach and taste buds are satisfied. Their menu has changed so took a pic on their most recent menu. Started with calamari with dijonaise sauce. Delish. Crispy too as it comes with tentacles!!! Then the charred octopus Mediterranean. Served with 3 good size tentacles, wish it was 4. Main courses: duck confit waldorf. The meat wasn't dry and the skin was crispy. It was so good. I don't ever eat spinach at all but whatever dressing they put, I ate all of them. Then wifey had the chicken and tarragon fricassee This was so good as the chiken had a hint of crispiness. It had a hint of curry taste. At first the serving didn't look it was big enough in relation to price but at the end of the night, we were full and satisfied. Ended the night with crème brulee. Definitely worth a visit for a good dinner date.

A luxurious 20-minute wait for a small table in a crowded room. We gently noted the glaring lack of any actual pets enjoying this "exclusive" area, but rules are rules, apparently. No dog, no patio. I did consider claiming my girlfriend occasionally identifies as a furry to game the system, but I decided against it. Instead, I simply let the hostess know their brilliant policy had successfully driven away two more paying customers. Mission accomplished!

It should also be noted that when we sat down, two tables next to us were finishing up. We ordered our food before the new customers arrived at those two tables. Both of those tables received full service, including dessert, before we were even checked on. Even once we stopped the server to cancel the remainder of our order, there was no apology given.

I enjoyed the smoked chicken, especially. The brisket was very tender. Service was kind and quick. No complaints. One odd thing is that me and another guest at the table both ordered an extra side of brisket to go along with our meals and they served it on the same platter. When it was about half gone and I had asked for my side, they said they put both portions on the same dish and that is just weird and made it awkward. However, they did bring me an extra little cup of brisket. Still odd that they would do that. The atmosphere was cool, but the live entertainment that night was singing very depressing songs which honestly just mismatched the vibe of the whole restaurant and ruined the mood. Happy I tried Iron Horse, but probably wouldn't come back between the odd service and the sad entertainment not matching with the expected vibe of the place. A lot of potential with this restaurant though.

For our meals, we ordered the special swordfish taco and the carne asada tacos. Both proteins lacked flavor and were heavily covered with pineapple salsa, which overpowered everything else. The tacos themselves were very bland and desperately needed salt. Once we added salt, they became much more enjoyable. The same went for the rice and beans -- both were pretty flavorless until seasoned.
