I actually don't quite understand why this place has such a high review. The server is nice but the food is just average. We ordered escargot (which is okay), pork chop carbonara ( the pork chop is dry and overcooked, and I didn't expect there is carrot in the carbonara haha, I can't really taste any bacon, it's pretty much pasta with white sauce), shrimp risotto is so so as well, we ordered a set (one entre with one plate total $29), the waitress said we can order any plate we want for the set, but then later on when I get the check, the waitress said they need to charge $5 more for the risotto.... and she said it's on the menu. But wait, then why you told us we can pick any plate we want for the set. If you want to pick one place to eat in Kanab, don't waste your time and just go to Sego. read more

Gary Kalpakoff of Raven's Heart Gallery recommended we try Vermillion 45. We were not disappointed. Our server Summer was a delight. While new to her position she did a great job helping us through the menu and serving each dish in the order we specified. Vermillion 45 is lucky to have her. Without exception the food was delicious. We enjoyed salade D'Artichauts Barigoule, French onion soup, pan-seared Scottish salmon, gnocchi puttanesca with meatball, finished with sorbet. Who would have thought that Escargot and Charcuterie would be something served in Kanab? A clear sign that things continue to change in rural Utah as places like this pop up to cater to the ever growing traffic that continues to discover how great Southern Utah is. A solid change of pace from what you'd expect in the area. Well executed French and Italian cuisine. We explored the breadth of the menu and everything met or exceeded expectations. Highlights included the Risotto, Steak Fritte, and Cheese board. Also, assuming the weather agrees the patio is a perfect place to spend an evening savoring the red vermillion cliffs north of town. If I was only in Kanab for one day I might be more inclined to get a true local experience like Sego or the Iron Horse but if you are spending more time this is a great 2nd night. One nit pick...$10 is too much for a small square of tiramisu. read more

A meal that had promise turned into trying to eat a steak that was tough as a door mat. Gave up after trying to eat 1/2 of it with a pile of chewed gristle on my plate. This was a weird place to have dinner. On the one hand, it had some positives. The menu was pretty good, the location is convenient, the patio outside is nice. On the other hand, the place employs some interesting characters. When you walk in, you're greeted with the most flustered hostess in Utah. With 2 parties waiting, she claimed she wasn't able to tell us a wait time (the dining room and patio were half empty) and said maybe her manager can come and tell us (?). When we were seated, the person who bused the table was making uncomfortably awkward puns. The waiter kept forgetting things. At some point I was waiting on 4 items - knife, cocktail, water, ketchup. The extra interesting part came the day after. I walked in to buy a to-go dessert (they have a clear display counter of desserts by the entrance). The hostess again was having a dickens of a time with the one other customer there but told me if I gave her a moment she'd get to me. After 5+ minutes of aimless confusion, she came back and said she wasn't able to sell me a dessert after all because it was too late (25 minutes to closing). To be clear, I wasn't asking them to make a dessert but just to take out a tart and give it to me - in exchange for money. When I asked to speak to a manager, she told me she was the owner! Which.... kinda makes sense. If you're deciding between this place or the place next door (Wild Thyme) I do strongly recommend the latter. read more

We came to Kanab late on Sunday night and many restaurants were closed. It was really hard to get a table. I called and to be placed on a waiting list and was told that the wait was over one hour and we might not get anything tonight. Despite that, when we just drove to the restaurant and checked on our queue, it took only about 15 min to be seated. We ordered Onion Soup, Pork pate and Beef Burgundy. The soup was very good but the rest quite ordinary. Portions, as in most French restaurants, were tiny ( though at this time of the day it was probably OK). The Pate was more like an appetizer but listed under Entree heading. Service was okay but our server clearly lost interest when we did not order drinks. Considering quantities, prices were super high: the beef stew portion was no more than a cup and it costed $25. Overall, a bit pretentious. I don't think I will be back. read more

We had an outstanding dinner--mushroom risotto & cassoulet. Everything was delightful, and you can watch the chef and his team work in their glass-fronted, sparkling kitchen. The wine list is small, but carefully chosen and priced fairly. Our opinion was validated by a group of French tourists who came in after us. They appeared to be relieved to find some familiar food and were having a grand time. Their laughter and French conversation added to the atmosphere. We'll stop there again. read more

3.5 stars for Kanab - just not sure if I'd go back. I went for dinner 10/27, a few months after they opened and saw in previous reviews that the service needed some improvement- still the case. Everyone is nice but nothing is efficient and/or timely. For the food - YASSS: my sea scallop Risotto was TO DIE FOR. Perfectly seared scallops, tender inside, yum. Risotto had depth with mushrooms and freshness from peas, and plenty of Parmesan - all at amazing price of $24! BAD: the rib eye was downright terrible - this is bringing down the rating the most. $46 for a poor quality cut of meat - it was extremely tough, cooked to medium but you might as well picked that steak up from Wal-Mart in the sirloin section. GOOD: desserts were good, could use improvement, nothing outstanding but I'd definitely order again. Amazing selection and good intention just needs a lil refinement. Had the creme brûlée and marscapone raspberry trifle - which was good flavors but the marscapone needed a lil whip cream to lighten it up. read more

Prix Fixe menu reminded me of the Alps. One bite and I knew this place is legit. My man, who isn't a salad guy, finished my salad. The gratin was creamy, yet didn't feel heavy. The gnocchi was like a cloud enveloped in the bolognese. Desserts were made on site, including the Belgian chocolate truffles. Our favorite was the dark with caramel. It had the perfect sweetness. Friendly family run place. We ate here on Christmas and the older lady seated us. She was very sweet. Our waitress interacted very well with us, as well as the owner. I believe he is from Texas and his wife is French and had a Belgian friend visit and make truffles. Fabulous French and Italian cuisine served by friendly folks. read more

Waitstaff was extremely condescending, and food was mediocre at best. The waiter not only brought us the wrong drink order, but had actively made us feel like we weren't "good enough" for the establishment. She made fun of our pronunciation of certain menu items, and literally scoffed at us at times. I wouldn't have felt strongly enough to leave this review if it weren't for how poorly we were treated. Pretentious, without the quality to back it up. If you're in the area and all other restaurants are closed (that was our situation), I'd highly recommend hitting up a Macdonald's or some other chain, rather than giving this place your money and patronage. read more

The staff is rude and the hours inconsistent. We were able to eat here once for lunch a year ago, in 2023. It was excellent. When we went back that evening at 8 PM the waitress met us at the door and said they were closed, even though their hours advertised a 9 PM closing. When we pointed that out, she said they were out of food. Tonight, April 6, 2024 we walked across the street from our motel at a little before 8 PM. Their neon window sign read "open". Again we were met at the door and told through the locked door they were closed. We then called to attempt to speak with them and got a recording saying the hours were 11AM to 9 PM. If they want to close at eight they should say so rather than rudely annoying potential clientele. read more

A big surprise of my visit to Kanab was finding an excellent French restaurant in a fairly small town, of such high quality that it would have more than held its own in Los Angeles or New York. My son and I ate there twice while passing through town on the way back to Los Angeles. Since Kanab is a tourist town I was expecting average food suited to tourists for whom there is no chance of repeat business. Instead, both times meals were prepared by a staff of several chefs, speaking both French and English, as if they were trying to get their diners to become steady customers. My first meal consisted of a main course of scallops, cooked to absolute perfection so as to retain their succulence. We returned two days later, after a hike down into the Grand Canyon's North Kaibab trail, and I had the duck in an exquisite red wine sauce. I will make a point to eat here again when I pass through again later this summer. read more

Be prepared to be amazed by this place. I am pretty impressed with the caliber of restaurants in this town... incredible. We ordered the following; Salad... very good and fresh.. forgot the name. Short ribs... shut the front door. This dish was outstanding. All of the goodness of the short ribs with the veggies, potatoes and wine reduction to kick your behind in a good way. Fried duck.... this was amazing too. Idk how to explain but you need to try it. Not gamey at all. Then for dessert the best tiramisu I have ever had. I am in love with this place. On a Saturday night there was a long line waiting for a table at 8 PM. Even though we called to reserve a table several days in advance, it was not found. This happened to several parties. Our host seemed too flustered to handle a crowded house. My advice is to call the day of reservation to make sure your reservation can be located. We finally was shown to a table in the dining room after 45 minutes of waiting. The staff was efficient and a bit overwhelmed. The food however arrived without too much delay. We highly recommend the steak and mussels in wine sauce. The fixed price menu is a good value where one chooses several items from the regular menu. We found the desserts not that great. If weather is nice, ask for a table on the patio. This restaurant definitely elevates the dining options in Kanab. read more

This place doesn't look like much from the outside but inside it is a pantheon of food and a haven for foodies...in Kanab, UT. I was on a tour of the South West specifically to see the Grand Canyon and found this oasis between Zion and The GC. Every thing was excellent from the Carrot Bisque to the Pesto Pasta. We had reservations here to celebrate my brother's birthday. The server gave us the menu and told us the specials for the day. He gave us some time and came back to take our order. Literally EVERY ITEM we wanted to order was sold out. Keep in mind that there's not a lot of items on the menu and it's 7pm.. they were out of the steak, salmon and duck confit. We settled for the lamb, braised short rib and risotto. I know that they were extremely understaffed, but the server forgot where he wrote down our orders on his note pad, which caused an even longer delay getting our food. I've driven past this unassuming eatery multiple times on road trips, til one time my appetite hit me just as my girlfriend and I passed through Kenab on a 10hr Phoenix to Salt Lake City journey. The interior is dimly lit and cozy, with the crown jewel being the large, wide open and polished kitchen. The French onion soup was big enough for 2 and one of the best I've ever tasted. Next was a perfectly cooked Duck a L'orange that was like nothing I've ever had, complete with confit orange peel and an Asian inspired orange sauce. The rhubarb crumble dessert was the perfect nightcap to our meal. I was not surprised to find out that a French Michelin Star chef was the man in charge. Quite possibly the most pleasant surprise in all of southern Utah and I will definitely return the next time I'm on the road down there. read more

On our way to Jackson Hole, we decided to stop here for dinner based on the high Yelp rating. The ambiance was cozy & the wait staff was good. But here are the reasons why this place does not deserve high a high rating in my opinion : 1. We waited almost 10 minutes to be seated despite it was fairly quite Sunday evening with many empty tables 2. The bus staff was interrupting our dinner too frequently. We barely finished our appetizers, house salad & escargot, but the bus staff stopped by our tables two or three times asking if we finished our " dinner" or if we wanted to keep the silverware ( which was oily after having the heavily buttered, salted, & garlic-ed escargot dish) vice versa 3. The main dishes , duck dish & sea scallop risotto , were too fatty & heavy with melted cheese. It almost made us sick after having just a few bites. My impatient husband lost his temper when the bus staff came by the third time around asking if we would need more bread or water. He had to swallow quickly to respond to their inquiry telling them to stop bothering us so to finish our dinner In peace , heh. The restaurant is located right off the route 89, in Kanab, a beautiful town nestled on the picturesque Kanab Creek just north of the Arizona state line. We should have eaten at Rocking V Cafe, where we had a wonderful time the year before but we made a mistake by trying out a different restaurant as we usually do. I hope the owner(s) of the restaurant takes my constructive criticism seriously that he/she improves the quality of the food & service of the bus staff. read more

I so wanted to love this place. The server (Steven) was very kind. My salmon was just ok, and served lukewarm. The interior looks like a former McDonald's. For the prices they charge, they shouldn't use paper napkins, one-time use paper menus. They need to make the place more cozy, in my opinion. I don't know if I'd come back. read more

What a surprise to find a French chef (for real!) in Kanab, Utah. I had an amazing lunch of the best onion soup and pear and bleu cheese salad. My dining partner had a creative bruchetta with Italian meats. Dessert was a coconut custard creation--yum. I highly recommend this special little oasis amidst the red rocks. read more

Solid food and a great location ruined by abysmal service. We had made a reservation for a Saturday night and showed up on time; we were led to our table by a woman who was also bussing tables. Not a very warm welcome. Took a while to get water; the restaurant was not busy, but the servers were rushing around and seemed incredibly flustered, and were quite curt when taking our order. Food-wise, we had the seafood stew and the tagliatelle. The tagliatelle was actually great, but the seafood stew was a disappointment, especially at $29. We weren't interested in sticking around for dessert, and the same woman cleared our table rather aggressively, spilling the stew all over the table and my jacket without so much as an apology. Didn't want to make a scene, so we paid and left as quickly as we could. Frankly, it was bizarre how poor the service was from every member of the staff we interacted with, to the point of being downright hostile. We overheard similar interactions with other tables as well. Tolerable at a diner, inexcusable at this price point. I do think that this place has potential, though. We visited V45 on our second night in Kanab, and after hiking much of the day. It had the look and feel of a European bistro, with an open kitchen and sort of a rustic, country-French feel (or perhaps "country-Belgian" is more apt, since one of the owners is native to that country). The menu was mostly 'Europe via Italy/France' with items like risotto, pan-seared duck, gnocchi, and various braised or baked meats. American options like burgers and ribeye were also offered. It was certainly enough variety to please our small group. I had the Sottish salmon, which was quite excellent, especially for the price ($23). My friends enjoyed the beef bourguignon and ratatouille. They had a short but decent beer list too, including some local options from Utah. But I was in the mood for a cocktail. My rye old-fashioned arrived and was fine - it was a bit on the weak side. I noticed there was no visible bar here, not even inside the open kitchen, so I can only assume they made the cocktails in some anteroom (Too bad; I like a restaurant with a nice bar). My only real issue with V45 was the staff and service, which felt a bit cold. Maybe it's my imagination, but our waitress's smile felt forced; and everyone in the kitchen looked like they'd rather be somewhere else. It put only a small damper on my mood, however, and we enjoyed our shared meal here after a long day. I'd go back, partly to see if the chilly service was a fluke or not. read more
