We came here in our most recent Zion National Park visit and it was definitely 3 stars for service, maybe 3.5 stars for food. It was so hard to get the servers' attention and they hardly came around to the patio tables. We got the kids a quesadilla with rice and refried beans and I got the skirt steak taco dish with black beans. The way the kids plate was plated was not at all kid friendly, smearing the refried beans artistically on a flat plate made it impossible for the toddlers to try to scoop up to eat. The quesadilla and my tacos were quite delicious but my black beans were also a bit undercooked.

Really good, fresh Mexican food - I had the Avocado and corn salad with grilled shrimp - the lettuce and vegetable were nice, fresh, and crisp. Husband had Salmon (fish of the day) fish taco which were delicious. Margaritas. Fredy, the waiter - was friendly, funny. We sat outside at the picnic tables - what a view looking up and seeing the mountains.

Our server, Caesar, was really great and genuinely enhanced our experience. While the food itself was just okay, the warm hospitality from all the staff was refreshing compared to other local spots we've tried, and that alone made a difference. I have a pretty high standard for Mexican food, so I wasn't blown away -- but I also wasn't disappointed. Portions were very generous, especially the chips and salsa. Drink-wise, the Manhattan was nice and strong, and the fresh raspberry lemonade was amazing. For food, the carne asada tacos were my favorite -- well seasoned and not your usual asada, but very tasty. I'd definitely recommend the carne over the chicken tacos. The chicken tacos were fajita-style, but I think the chicken could've used a little more seasoning. The black beans were fine, but I preferred the refried beans (also great for dipping!). The rice was a bit bland in my opinion. I'm used to LA tacos with bold flavors, so the seasoning here felt more mild -- which makes sense given the diverse crowd of tourists visiting Zion from all over the world. Overall, I would totally come back. The service was excellent, the food was decent, prices were fair, and portions were very generous.

If you enjoy a margarita/ with chips and dip, while watching a beautiful sunset on the Zion Mountain, this is it. The food was fresh- with homemade tortillas, excellent portion sizes, authentic music, a little privacy, and a lot of wait staff attention, this is it!

We really enjoyed our experience here. The service was so fast and friendly. The food was great except for the fries, which had a moderately strange texture. It is a nice space to enjoy and they have a huge patio! Mu husband got the BBQ burger and fries and enjoyed it. My shrimp tacos were excellent and I would love to try some of their other menu items.

Whiptail Grill -- stopped here for dinner to enjoy some Mexican food after a long day exploring. Food: I ordered the Whiptail Burrito, which was flavorful and satisfying, and I really appreciated the classic rice and refried beans, something a lot of places back home don't do anymore. ‍ Service: Our waiter, Cesar, was attentive and helpful throughout the meal. Aesthetic: The outdoor seating provided a relaxed, scenic atmosphere that made for a perfect evening dining experience.

I was talking to a local and asked for a recommendation for wings. She recommended Whiptail Grill. When we got to Whiptail, I realized it was a Mexican restaurant. I was a little apprehensive because I know authentic Mexican food. I did not expect to find authentic Mexican food in Utah. With that expectation set, I was still a little let down. The Chile Relleno was great. I chose to add a protein (steak). I was disappointed to see the Chile Relleno come out with the steak on the side. The rice was very bland, could have been seasoned more. The salsa is a very basic tomato salsa. Which is great for the average public. Our server, Cesar did bring out a spicer salsa. It definitely exceeded my expectations and glad they do have a spicer option. The wings were wings. Nothing to write home about. Frank's red hot, normal wings. But I did not expect much from a Mexican restaurant. The margaritas were just ok. I've definitely had better. Prices are slight high side. Expect to spend $100 for two people.

Went here with friends for dinner on a Friday night. It was pretty packed but our group of 6 was seated right away. Looks like an old gas station converted to a restaurant which was fun. I liked that there were a couple of options that I could have made vegan, but would be nice to have a vegan entree. I was able to order the spaghetti squash enchiladas without cheese, and it was delicious, served with black beans and rice. My daughter ordered the veggie tacos and we split those, which were quite good. Guacamole and salsa was also good. A bit pricey like everything in Springdale

Whiptail Grill has officially stolen the title of my favorite restaurant in Springdale. If you're craving bold flavors with a creative twist, this casual Mexican fusion gem is a must-visit. I had their famous chile relleno, and wow now I understand what all the buzz is about. It was beautifully presented, packed with flavor. The outdoor seating is the cherry on top. With the red rock cliffs of Zion towering around you, the views are just breathtaking. It's peaceful, scenic, and the perfect setting to unwind after a day of exploring. The service was warm, welcoming, and incredibly attentive without being overbearing. Every staff member we encountered made us feel like we were right at home. And as a bonus--we were treated to nature's own dinner show. A baby hummingbird and its mother perched right above the patio, flitting in and out of their nest and keeping us completely enchanted throughout our meal. Just magical.

Okay- I think it's worth noting PARTIES OF 5 or more will be charged 18% gratuity... but where they get you... is when they bring you the bill they neglect to tell you this and they don't give you a tangible receipt, instead you have to scroll through a kiosk that has a screen about 1/2 the size of an iPhone screen. So I didn't see the 18%, I would've tipped 20%, because service was great. Instead I tipped 18% then another 20%. When I asked why the bill was so high our waiter said he would print out a receipt. Then I saw the almost $70 tip total!?!? The waiter rectified the situation but if I hadn't of asked, I feel like I would've been swindled. Food had mixed reviews- I had the Goat Cheese Chile Relleno which was Outstanding! Others in my party had the burger (it was Ho-hum... but what do you expect from a Mexican restaurant?) Another had the dinner salad. It was pretty traditional. Last one in my group had the Sweet Pork Tacos. There were ALOT of onions on this one and 2 tacos were fully loaded. I'm amazed that along with the rice and beans the plate was cleared. It was a lot of food. Taste was good. For apps- we got the trio. Which was a good deal of dips but certainly not enough chips for the dips. So we ended up ordering extra chips. You'd think you'd get enough chips to equal out the amount of dips. When we walked up at 5:00 with a party of 5, they did not have a table large enough inside to accommodate our group so we had to eat outside. It was so windy, the chips in the basket were flying out of the basket. The menu went flying all over the table and we couldn't keep our napkins on our laps. Overall we had some hurdles but the food was quality. Moral of my story- sit inside, if you're a party of 5 ask for a printed receipt and maybe skip the trio unless you're ready to order more chips.

Strawberry jalapeño margaritas & canyon mule

Service was excellent--Caesar took great care of us and made the whole experience even better with his helpful and friendly attitude. We tried the strawberry jalapeño margarita and the Canyon Mule, and both were fantastic. We started with chips, salsa, and guacamole--the chips were colorful and fun, which added a nice touch. The chicken taco with fire sauce was a standout; definitely go for the fire sauce if you enjoy some heat. The rice and beans didn't quite match the quality of more authentic spots, but overall, we really enjoyed the place and would happily come back.

We dined at the Whiptail Grill for the first time in our latest stop in Springdale. We are adding it to our go-to list when visiting Zion. The restaurant is in a refurbished Texaco filling station of a bygone era. It is a cool spot and it has a unique charm. The whole staff is attentive and welcoming. The menu offered something for everyone in our party. I opted for the Green Chile Burger. It is tasty with some zest. I will definitely order it again. The Goat Cheese Chile Relleno is a specialty dish that did not disappoint.

    Chicken tacos with fire sauce
    Matthew R.

Enjoy lunch or dinner on the covered patio (perhaps only outdoor seating?) and take in the fresh Zion air. Half of the diners have a view of the hills opposite the park. The servers are upbeat and high-energy. The Mexican food is affordable given the competitive location. I had the chicken tacos, served in blue corn tortilla shells, with generous pico and grilled veggies. The plate in the picture is a large platter, and the serving is generous. I had mine with "Fire" sauce, which lived up to the name. It is quite spicy (which I was warned about), and I proceeded. I would liken it to Thai hot...about as hot as I would want for a full meal. The Moscow mule was tasty. My wife's strawberry and jalapeño margarita was spicy and delicious! Give them a try!

Homemade BBQ sauce! The slow-cooked pork is cooked for 14 hours! This is a woman who takes pride in her food and enjoys her job! Very nice servers too. Food is delicious! I ordered the BBQ salad with aforementioned shredded pork. What a masterpiece of a salad. Plenty of juicy shredded pork, lots of real bacon pieces, mixed greens, cheddar cheese, cabbage, tomatoes and onions in perfect harmony! Pour that BBQ sauce and ranch all over, and you have yourself just the ticket after hiking 7 miles! My hubby snagged the pork verde crepes which he loved too. Check out the pics! MeMe went out of her way to find me a size small t-shirt that is beautifully screenprinted with a design that celebrates both Zion Canyon and MeMe's! Check them out! Unfortunately, it was a tad too big for me but they probably have your size. The meal was very reasonable for Zion/Springdale. We ate at the Red Rock Grill at the Lodge the night before. This meal was superior and half the price. The menu here is creative and unique. I loved this lil café with a lot of clocks, a bit of funk, and a thoroughly engaging owner in MeMe herself!! Go here for a yummy dining adventure when you are sick of the same ole overpriced steak and fish.

The waitress explained that their menu switches over to lunch at 11:30. That's certainly one of the latest I've ever seen! At any rate, we were happy to wait the extra 10-15 minute wait for the kitchen switchover. At this point the place wasn't too crowded at all all, and just as promised, we were able to place our order at 11:40. Garlic Burger ($18) - This is a huge plate of food with a mound of fries and one gigantic burger. The burger starts with a soft bun, lightly toasted on both sides, which is then piled up with onion and plenty of piquant pickles, making the burger extra tangy. There's a weak creamy mayo/mustard mixture that soaks the veggies, followed by a giant half pound burger patty on top. It's slightly pink in the center, but is somehow dry. It doesn't have much of a grilled/char flavor, nor much of a beefy flavor either. The patty is large but disappointing in flavor and execution. There's a pitiful spoonful of garlic on top of the patty. It such a small amount it's almost indistinguishable in flavor and texture - in fact, I didn't even know there was any garlic until I deconstructed the burger. That's a very poor showing for a burger with "garlic" in the name. On top of the garlic is a thick slice of melted cheese, more mayo/mustard, a small bed of shredded lettuce (complete with shreds falling out all over even before being brought to our table), and a couple of tomato slices. There's plenty of mayo/mustard sauce for the sandwich, enough to overcome how dry the meat is. The sandwich comes with a choice of regular or sweet potato fries, of which we went with the former. They are standard food service battered fries, not fried long enough to give any coloring to the exterior, making them extra pale and soft. We asked for a side of fry sauce which we found to be thin, watery, and drippy. (2/5) Pork Tamales ($22) - This dish comes with a side salad, which came immediately to the table. It's a pretty large portion for a side salad and includes plenty of romaine, full cherry tomatoes, mushrooms, charred corn, olives, and a pile of shredded carrot in an extremely tangy and slightly sweet dressing. The dressing is both way too acidic and way too watery for my tastes. It's so overdressed that a large puddle of dressing remained after finishing the salad. The tamales aren't very good either. They are doused in a green chile sauce that's only added after being blasted in whatever cooking appliance they use. The masa feels woefully under-steamed. It's quite coarse in texture and is hard, dry, and crumbly. It's so hard it's almost crunchy. The tamales seem to be pan fried on both sides, or perhaps broiled in a salamander for far too long. The green chile inside isn't even that flavorful, making the tamales a bland disappointment. There's a bed of shredded pork underneath the two tamales. The pork is not as far gone as the tamales. It's a little stringy and dry, but still retains at least a minimum amount of moisture. The pork has a pleasing pink/red tinge, but isn't smoky whatsoever. The overall profile doesn't display much in terms of spices, and the flavor of the pork itself isn't my favorite. I have a feeling that this is microwaved food service pork rather than being made in house. On top of everything is a chile verde sauce. It's again not that flavorful, with more acidity than anything else. There's absolutely zero heat - it's one of the most mild green chile sauces I've had. I feel like the dish could be improved a little if they simmered the pork in the green chile to help layer the flavors more. Unfortunately they are clearly cooked and assembled in a modular manner to save on ingredient cost. On the side is brown rice, actually cooked with green chile, and tender black beans that are appropriately salted. (2/5) Tip: If most people are sitting on the patio, I recommend not asking for an indoor seat. We were basically ignored by the waitress after we got our food since we were the only customers sitting inside. Also, get here earlier for fastest seating. By the time we left half past noon, the place was bustling with the entire patio being full of patrons. Oscar's Cafe serves huge portions with mediocre to bad quality. It's definitely a quantity over quality type of place and seems to be catered towards people who are scared of flavor and spices. I certainly would not return. Bathrooms - Single unisex room in the restaurant itself, but there are more in the mercantile area.

For our meals, we ordered the special swordfish taco and the carne asada tacos. Both proteins lacked flavor and were heavily covered with pineapple salsa, which overpowered everything else. The tacos themselves were very bland and desperately needed salt. Once we added salt, they became much more enjoyable. The same went for the rice and beans -- both were pretty flavorless until seasoned. The highlight of our experience was Jimenez (Hopefully I'm spelling his name correctly) who did a great job handling a very busy bar section. Service was attentive despite how packed it was, and we appreciated that. Overall, the food just did not meet expectations, especially for the price point.
