We came here on Christmas Day. Our server, Carmella, was so kind and gracious. It was a godsend that this place was open on Christmas Day, but Carmella went out of her way to make us feel welcome. One note and this does not have to do with the restaurant but the resort - we have a pet Cavapoo and she was attacked by two dogs - apparently they are there to protect the horses in the adjacent ranch. We checked into Zion Mountain Ranch Restaurant (cordwood) early in the evening and were encouraged to stay for dinner. Our reservation was at 8:30pm, we were seated around 8:42pm, and our drinks (water, apple juice, and wine) arrived close to 9pm after a reminder to the server. Once we were ready to order, the server mentioned a few additional options that were not listed on the menu, which left us wondering why those were not shared earlier. We ordered the butter pasta, smashed burger, and skirt steak. The food overall was decent, but part of the skirt steak arrived cold and the dinner service was very slow. We eventually walked to the front desk ourselves to ask for the check and pay. The next evening, I stopped by asking for just a drink to enjoy the view of the pasture at sunset, but was told drinks are only served with dinner and there was no alternative nearby without a 15-minute drive. The property itself has a relaxing setting, but the restaurant felt understaffed during peak hours and limited by policies that made the experience less welcoming than expected. read more

The honeycomb was a nice touch you don't get to see often. The steaks were fine, not bad and not amazing. The mashed potatoes I had with my ribeye were a little chunky, which I appreciated because I like the chunks. My wife's bison steak was flavorful and not dry. Parking is okay. Definitely would recommend a reservation for lunch or dinner. We were quickly sat & had our order taken. Menu is seasonal & local produce based. It has a nice modern rustic vibe. The farm can be seen from the windows. The farm dogs are sweet fluffy cuties that can often be seen in the yard or inside the store/hotel lobby during the day. The charcuterie board was very good. It had a well rounded variety of meats, cheeses, fruits, peppers, etc. It was very filling & I would recommend everyone try it. The steaks were good, but nothing over the top. Very nummy, I had the bison bolognese, it was near perfection to me the noodles were just a little past al dente though. The service was amazing! We were helped by Carmella and she was so funny and knew the menu very well. I wish I could have tried the bison burger but it was not being served. Maybe it is a lunch item only. We stumbled across this charming, rustic farm/ranch restaurant on our way back to our RV resort. It had been snowing a bit so we lucked out on the views this farm had to offer! Pros: -Decor is on point! Fireplace kept the restaurant feeling warm and toasty! Absolutely divine. -Beef stew. Tomato broth and spice made it incredibly tasty and flavorful. Beef itself was soft and tender. -Apple Salad. Simple and delicious. -Menu. Everything looked tasty! Con: -Service. Very slow. Perhaps something typical given that other reviews said the same thing. It took a bit longer than expected to get our menus and drinks. Other than that, our meals arrived in a timely fashion consistent with a farm to table restaurant . I would definitely come back, but I would call in my order 20 minutes ahead of time if I were hungry and did not want to wait too long. Are dinner at this rustic, cozy restaurant with my wife. Great choice. Horses, some friendly pups, and chickens greater us, as did Victoria at the front desk, who directed us to the restaurant. Warmly greeted and seated by Carmella (see photo), who was delightfully friendly, made excellent recommendations, and was a definite add to a great meal. The venison and elk chili was a must try, and I really enjoyed the bison ribeye, served with veggies and mashed potatoes. My wife loved the Caesar salad, topped with a bunch of anchovies. The first time I went there 2 years ago, I was wowed by the bison ribeye and the service. When we were booking a trip to Zion this year, we specifically chose to stay at Zion Mountain Ranch (despite the slight drive back into the park) because of the dining experience we had at Cordwood. This time, however, the restaurant was a bit of a letdown. First night, they didn't tell us they were out of the bison ribeye until I went to order it, so I was a bit bummed and instead did their chicken entree which was bland and the chicken was dry. The portion sizes appeared to be all over the place - some entrees were small, and the venison bolognese was seemingly an entire box of pasta ordered by our youngest child, so we would have appreciated if the wait staff could have let us know and either we could have split the meal and shared amongst us, or chose a different order as she was unable to eat even half of the dish. The next night, we went for dessert one night and the girls got brownie sundaes and I shared a slice of apple pie, everyone agreed that it was pretty good, though the sundaes did not come out with the full fixings as listed on the menu. Ours were missing the whipped cream and caramel/fudge topping. Breakfast on our final morning there was uninspiring. The eggs were not seasoned at all and there was no salt and pepper on the tables, as well as they were out of the house made hot sauce shown on the menu, so it was pretty bland to me. The coffee pot and hot water were on the fritz, so instead of telling us, our waitress brought us lukewarm microwaved water (which she never told us, but we heard her tell another table). I'd rather have had juice than water barely warm enough to steep tea. The breakfast potatoes they do are pretty terrific, they're really crispy and good. The toast and jams were of good quality. Portions for breakfast were much more reasonable. Each of the three experiences was marked by a noticeable need for more staff. Each dining experience took much longer than it should have because the hostess was also the server and also seemed to be bussing tables after. There was another gentleman who we thought worked there, but didn't do a thing besides chat with some of the tables and play his drum. The first night, it took an hour and a half to complete our dinner service. We didn't return for dinner service the next night because we simply couldn't risk it taking so long and missing out on the horse ride we scheduled that evening. The setting is very cool, we love the rustic feel and that they seem to make everything from scratch. Their greenhouse with aquaponics is very cool, and we loved seeing the pigs, chickens, dogs, horses, etc all outside. Last time we were there, they also had rabbits, so it is nice to see that they rotate their livestock. Their four Great Pyrenees guard dogs are super friendly and welcome any scritches, and patrol the grounds even up near the cabins we stayed in. Overall, it was ok. A bit of a letdown for me compared to a couple years ago when we stumbled upon it randomly and had a great experience with better service. read more

First timer here. After a hike at Mt. Zion we drove up the road and found this restaurant. We didn't know we needed a reservation to dine there but thankfully they were able to accommodate a party of 4. We did wait for about 15 minutes or so and there was only two servers at the time. So service was a little slow but we were thankful they allowed us without a reservation on Christmas Day 2021! By the way, the land on which this restaurant is at is beautiful. Farmland for sure. Lets get into the food review. Prime Rib Steak 16oz is enough for two people and is cooked to perfection! From the seasoning of the meat to the seasoning and taste of the mashed potatoes. The chicken soup tasted like Campbell's soup but it hit the spot. Especially, when it was cold. Also, the coffee is really good. Thank you once again for making space for us. Covid what? Its August 15th but you wouldn't know we were still in the midst of a pandemic walking into this place. People looked at me for wearing a mask. Servers are also maskless and so are the majority of patrons. Be prepared. That aside...the food is good, especially the cobbler. We ate here four times (five actually if you count the sack lunches) in three days and it was the same menu for lunch and dinner. The grilled salmon, grilled cheese (adult, not kids), and the cobblers (peach and mixed berry) a la mode were the favs. You can pass on the grilled chicken (too sweet). The bison burger was hit or miss depending on which one you ordered. Bison is lean and may seem less tasty so get the special if you get the burger. It's topped with grilled onions and a light bbq sauce. The amber and lager beers were the best of the bears on tap. Great with our dinner and late lunches. They do serve a traditional breakfast too but sadly, we never made it in before 11am. Great place to lunch or dinner with plenty of indoor seating. There's no patio or outdoor dining though. In all honesty, this review is a solid 4 star review. The food is good and truly admirable that a lot is farm to table but given your options in the area I can see why many people would rate this 5 stars. As many other reviews stated, it is a limited menu and a heavy focus on bison....but to state the obvious...the ZMR is a Buffalo preserve so it makes perfect sense that they would highlight that protein. My family and I were staying on property for a few nights over thanksgiving and we ate here three times over our stay. First reservation was for thanksgiving dinner (making the reservation was a headache but they did call me back a week before our trip to actually take my reservation and confirm for thanksgiving dinner so I really appreciate that) they gave us a 7:30 reservation cause they said they had a couple large (20-30) parties that evening and felt things would be calmer at that time. We arrive for our reservation and it took a solid 10mins for someone to greet us although servers were whizzing by. It was a full house so we know how it can be, no Biggy. We were finally greeted, gave my name and our reservation wasn't found. The gentleman helping us looked a little flustered but found us a table was back in the darkest corner by an exit door that was heavily used and left open... Our server was very friendly, we could tell he was super busy but he did his best to be attentive. We ordered the spinach salad, two turkey dinners and my husband ordered the elk lollipops and we had a few glasses of cab and a couple soft drinks for our 12 and 4 year old. The turkey dinner was really good. It fed myself and our daughters with food to spare. My husband was only able to finish one of his chops and he and I split the salad. If I had to dig for a comment about the dinner it would be that the salad was overdressed for my liking but delish none the less. Next visit was for breakfast the following day. My husband went to pick up breakfast and bring back to our room. He said service was extremely slow and a few items were out for quite a while while he was there waiting. I only requested bacon and eggs for our girls and toast so I could make a turkey sandwich from leftovers. Although simple, it was satisfying. Our last dining experience was another dinner. This time we ordered two chicken dinners and the bison pasta...and a bottle of wine. This was probably my most disappointing meal of the whole experience. The chicken was just ok, the rice really lacked flavor and they could have provided a little more that a few pieces of squash. A decent meal, don't get me wrong, but not worth the price tag. The bison pasta was better, pasta was cooked great and the ragu had good flavor. Maybe throw in a slice of garlic toast to take it up a notch. Always order the wine...can't go wrong ;) The ambience was what I would expect from being part of an establishment like ZMR, fits right in. This was an unexpected find. Who knew we would find gourmet food in a quaint valley outside Zion National Park. The restaurant is attached to a lodge, is cozy with a somewhat rustic setting- overlooking a petting animal pen, with chickens and rabbits running around. The menu is a bit limited - understandable considering their location, and that things are locally sourced. The prices are definitely higher than other restaurants within driving distance, but definitely worth it. My husband had the Bison ribeye, and I had the Bison filet. Both beautifully cooked, and served with veggies and fingerling potatoes. My husband was not a big fan of the seasoning - he likes to see what the meat tastes like on its own, so he was mildly disappointed, but enjoyed the rest of the meal. We shared a salad, a local beer and the fruit cobbler. The bill was $175. It was delightful, but definitely for special occasions. They do offer small plates and less-expensive entrees- we would recommend those as well. read more

Death would come sooner...than acknowledgement, than water, than anyone taking our order, than getting our food, our bill, our credit card back. So yes-the service is horrible. It just doesn't exist. From the time we arrived (6:50pm), there was no one at the hostess booth. We waited awhile to be acknowledged...and we had a reservation. We were sat and water didn't arrive for 20 min. The orders were taken and then the wait began. 30 minutes went by. No acknowledgment. Patrons that had arrived after us were served before us. We continued to wait. 20 more minutes. We had asked the waitress for a beer and she never returned with it and the desire for it did too. My husband started eating the menu. He was terribly hungry. I started daydreaming that this was a game show of patience using food as the torture device. Dinner finally arrived at 1 hr 10 min. I ordered the Chicken Confit breast ($29) with "silky pan gravy", rice pilaf and fresh veggies. What arrived was a double chicken breast, dry and no gravy, white rice and 8 pieces of dime sized veggie. I was starving and mowed it down but it was not as described and worth half the price. My husband ordered the Bison Burger ($28) with fries and 2 sauces. No sauce came with it, and the fries tasted like fish sticks. Again, not worth the money or time waiting. The next chase to get the waitress was for the bill. I was able to get her attention after she dropped the check off to the adjacent table, but getting my credit card back and the bill to sign was impossible. The big standout of the night was the lack of care for any of the customers that waited hours for their food. All in all, we calculated that we were there for just a little over 1 hr 30 min. Had they simply acknowledged the fact that the kitchen was short staffed or even had the foresight to bring out crackers in little bowls for the hungry patrons...but they didn't. A lot of reviews here mention the lack of COVID-19 safety measures. I absolutely agree that no one here is following any of the standard guidelines, but to be fair to them, they are doing what they can to satisfy and support anyone who does wish to practice social distancing. My husband and I arrived in masks which quickly flagged to the staff that we were interested in preserving our health and the health of those around us, so they asked if we would like take out or a table. We asked if it were possible to sit outside. The guy seemed a little confused for a moment but then shifted gears pretty quickly and said "yeah, sure". He proceeded to walk us to the most beautiful little dining area in a greenhouse out back. When the sun set, he brought his personal cell phone and placed it under a jug of water to give us light. He couldn't have known that we are on our honeymoon, but his willingness to help us navigate a safer way to dine and his additional thoughtful touches will make it a night to remember for the rest of our lives.
