Judging by the name, I expected another gastropub. Instead, after accidentally getting off at the wrong shuttle stop, I discovered one of the best meals of our trip. As Huey Lewis said, "I'm happy to be stuck with you." The food was outstanding, the service from Freddie was excellent, and even the kids' meals were healthy, generous, and delicious. This is one of the more upscale dining spots in Springdale, and I'm glad we stumbled into it. The linguini with mussels and the quinoa salad were both plentiful, flavorful, and beautifully prepared. The only miss for me was the Old Fashioned--I prefer mine with a large ice cube--but that's a minor complaint in an otherwise fantastic dining experience. Highly recommended. If not, I go with Oscar's Cafe and Switchback Grille which were other places I visited. The hamburgers here were nothing spectacular and particularly dry. The service was average at best. Everyone here love to say, "will let your server know." My mentor, Andrew Cherng of Panda, famously pointed out that is one way to push away responsibilities and make the customers wait even longer. Funny thing is that it's such a small request that can easily be taken care of immediately. Okay the highlight was the wild game meatloaf which was also the saving grace because I normally don't like meatloaf and this one was really well done. The atmosphere is great and the staff is amazing - when we first arrived, there were no tables available outside, and it was freezing inside because of the AC. The staff noticed us bundling up in our sweaters and managed to find us a table outdoors, which we really appreciated. Dinner for four came to about $172 (without alcohol). Everything we ordered was delicious, though I have to say the bison ground meat is definitely more of an acquired taste. Overall, I'd definitely recommend this place if you're in the area! read more

Yes, the prices are a bit on the higher side, and sure -- I wouldn't have minded a slightly broader menu. But overall, this place truly delivers. The service was outstanding from the moment we walked in. Our host was incredibly welcoming, and the entire staff carried themselves with professionalism and warmth. What really stood out: we were already seated inside and had our starters served, but when we asked to move to an outdoor table, they accommodated us immediately -- no questions asked, no attitude. I like their special meatloaf created out of special ground proteins, brilliantly cut potato and cute carrots. HUGE square of meat with a red pepper topping. I also enjoyed the buttery but not heavy purse plate. The beautiful sauce never congealed or tasted too overwhelming. I know it was a rich plate but I felt happy and not weighed down after devouring it. I added their marvelous snappy shrimp to it. By the way, these are large servings. Perhaps the best burger of my life: meet the Flanigan burger. It is a mixture of wagyu beef, elk, and bison. I had a small amount of mayo and ketchup on top, but the meat was so flavorful and juicy that it doesn't need a condiment. The servers and host are high-end and attentive. Had dinner here last night & we were blown away. We sat outside on their patio & it was very pleasant with the misters & simply amazing views of the surrounding mountains. To start, we shared a Smoked Trout app (10/10), then for entrees she had the Stuffed Purse Pasta (9/10) & I had the Wildgame Meatloaf (10/10). To wash it all down she had Sauv Blanc & I a couple Rieslings. We literally left nothing in our plates or glasses. Christina, our server, was top notch & tho the prices are a little steep (no surprise due to the tourist town) it was all well worth it. Reservations recommended especially for dinner. You can reserve on their website. Not much parking but since we were staying at Flanigan's, we just walked over. We were recommended Spotted Dog from another guest at our hotel after hiking around Zion for dinner, and it was a bit of a letdown (though the person we heard it from hyped it up). We snagged a table without a reservation, but food took a long time to come out. Close to 20 minutes for our appetizers: the crab cakes. The entrees took a little longer than that. Place has lots of seating, and only was around 75% full when we arrived for a late dinner. Servers were friendly, which was great. The place was pretty noisy, maybe with the acoustics chatter carried quite a bit. The crab cakes were decently sized (around a hockey puck or so) but the exterior was more mushy than I would have liked. I had the Flanigan's Burger, which was your usual solid burger. We showed up without a reservation and had about a 30 minute wait. The waiting area is pretty crowded, so try to make a reservation ahead of time if you can. We ordered the grilled chicken, the meatloaf, and kids chicken tenders with fries. The grilled chicken was pretty dry but it had good flavor. The roasted potatoes and broccolini were tasty. The wild game meatloaf was really unique. It came with the same sides of roasted potatoes and broccolini. We also ordered a baguette on the side but for $4, five little slices of baguette felt kind of expensive and the sauce that came with it wasn't our thing. It was like a cold balsamic marinara. My child enjoyed her chicken tenders and fries. The restaurant was crowded but well decorated with a pretty vaulted ceiling and cool light fixtures - it definitely gave it a cozy bustling pub vibe. I hate to write this review because the staff was so nice and helpful. The food, unfortunately, was pretty sub-par. I got the meatloaf which was not great and kind of dry. The veggies on the side were either over or undercooked, lacked seasoning, and some were mushy. My wife ordered the clams which was one of the most flavorless dishes I've ever had. Had dinner at this place last night with my family and none of us finished our main course. I had wild game meatloaf and it was like a brick of meat, tasteless and hard. My daughter and my wife ordered pink trout and I asked our waitress if she could separate the fish from sauces,rice,and vegetables, which she said they will do, and obviously that didn't happen. Aside from that, fish was cold and also tasteless, which is really strange for a great fish like trout. A Caesar salad, sautéd mushrooms, two trouts, a meatloaf and two glasses of wine cost me $230. If you are ever in Springdale you NEED to come to the Spotted Dog for dinner. This was a great experience. The brie cheese is a must for appetizers. The cheese is very subtle, not too overpowering, and the orange chutney just tops it all off. It also comes with cherries, bread, and apples. We both got the Rocky Mountain red trout, and let me tell you, that's the best fish I've ever had. The trout comes with wild rice and seasoned vegetables. I subbed the vegetables for the tallow fries and my grandmother just kept the two sides. The rice has good flavor, and the tallow fries aren't too soft hot and crispy. They're cooked trout also comes with a blackberry compote. What you do is you dip some of your trout in the compote, and that just tops the fish. Considering how good the food was, we wanted to try dessert. I had the lemon cake and my grandmother had the raspberry cheesecake. The lemon cake is light and refreshing, and my grandmother really liked her cheesecake as well. Besides how good the food was, service is also amazing. Our server was super friendly, and happened to be from the same area we're from! The view is amazing from the restaurant (obviously) and there is also patio seating. My wife & I ate here the first night at Zion, and it was excellent. I had the chicken with rice which was perfect, and my wife had the Pasta pouches with pear?, and she loved it. The service was great, and although we had to wait a bit to be seated, it was delicious. We didn't have a reservation, so I would recommend that. Def will be back. read more

This is Day #2 of our dining experience at the Spotted Dog and let me tell you they did an even better job tonight than they did last night. Ambiance was perfect since we got there a little before the rush. We were able to have Kohl as our server since Anna was not there tonight. Tonight the chef had the dessert sampler ready for us and it did not disappoint. The chocolate cake was Devine!!! And what makes it even more amazing was that this is a gluten free chocolate cake. Decadent and not sinful. I had the Flanagan burger which was wonderful. The burger is a mixed protein patty-wagyu, elk, wild boar, and another wild protein that escapes me as I write this but the sauce the bun and fries made this burger the best I've eaten on a long time. Wife had the smaller portion Caesar salad with sautéed shrimp which was the perfect portion and perfect melding of flavors. I regret we will be leaving tomorrow but I would not hesitate eating there every night. This is where it's at! While visiting Zion, we found most restaurants in Springdale serve alot of rice, beans, potatoes and bread. There's not alot of fresh ingredients being offered. This place was different than the rest. And it's one of only a few, that can serve alcohol. Most places only offer beer and wine. We split a Field Blend Salad to start. I ordered the Pesto Pasta and a Cosmopolitan and my husband had a Dirty Martini and the Strip Steak special. Cocktails were perfect and our meals were delicious. Plenty of indoor seating, however the outdoor patio is very popular and filled up first. If you want to ensure you've got a great meal after a day in the park, make a reservation. read more

She took us to our table without a word. I am in the service business and when people come to your establishment you want them to feel welcomed. Especially in a restaurant setting. We came here after spending the day in Zion park and arrived just before 6 pm and got a table within 20 mins. Anyone coming in after 6 pm was having to wait upto an hour. I was super happy with our visit to Spotted Dog. Everyone at the table liked their meal, and I personally loved the mushroom gnocchi (I added shrimp). We got crab cakes and the beet salad as appetizers and both were great. Everything is plated beautifully and the mocktails they made for us were creative and delicious. The basil pesto was basil pesto not much pop, the pasta was not al dente which should be the preferred for a restaurant like this. Wild game had game and beef in it my guess is they go up and shoot the wild bulls in slot canyons but not bad all around and made to look fancy sliced in half and laid on bread mustard was quite good. The purses were well flavored and quaintly done with good proportions of cheese to pear they did not scrimp on the butter which was flavorful and prodigious in amount. We recently vacationed in Zion and heard a lot of great things about Spotted Dog. We pulled up the reservation website the day we initially wanted to go, but it showed no tables available, so we booked it for the following day. When we arrived, there were tables still available, so it is very possible that they hold enough tables for walk-ins. Service was fantastic. Our waiter was very informative and attentive. We started with espresso martinis, which were delicious, and much needed after a long day of hiking. Instead of a traditional appetizer, we ordered a greek salad as an appetizer. It was pretty classic as a Greek salad goes. For entrees, I ordered the purses with sage butter and my husband ordered the smoked beef short ribs. The pasta was perfectly cooked and the mix of pair, sage and ricotta provided great flavor. I think my only feedback would be that brown butter may provide a richer taste than plain butter. The short ribs were tender, but it felt like the bbq sauce was store bought. Overall, the restaurant has a great view and is right in the heart of Springdale. I was there last week. I went there twice because my daughter really like that restaurant. First night sit inside, I came very late, they almost closing soon. Second night I came very early, so able to sit outside, the view of Zion's mountain is amazing from restaurant's patio. 1) Decor is nice and restaurant is super clean 2) Their food is amazing, my daughter has some paste purse, like dumpling. I have penne paste with shrimp and my husband has Ahi tuna. All 3 dishes are very well cook. Amazing good food. 3) Their dessert lists is very good also. 4) service is very good. I am a local and this has always been one of favorites, but they just added some new items to their menu with the Bistro section of menu for lighter dinners. We had 2 of the new items, the Fleming's Burger and the Grilled Chicken sandwich, which were both outstanding. They also have switched the oil to tallow for their fries which seems much cleaner and tasty. They offer both indoor and outdoor patio seating. Of course, on a good weather day, outdoor seating has beautiful views. The staff were very generous, attentive, and friendly. I was one of the first to show up at 5p, but the restaurant filled quickly. Obviously, many Zion tourists will be hungry after a day of hiking and biking. I ordered a field salad that had candied pecans, strawberries, and feta cheese... very, very tasty. For dinner I had a special of the day: NY steak and seasonal vegetables, along with a side dish of marinated mushrooms. All of it was amazingly good. The mushrooms complemented the steak perfectly. The carrots, and broccolini were great, but the potatoe was slightly under cooked. Big bonus... they left a full jug of water at my table. Sounds minor, but after a hot and long day of hiking, easy access to a lot of cold water was just perfection. Overall, great little restaurant with bold flavorful dishes. A friend and I had an amazing meal at Spotted Dog when we were in Springdale earlier this month. We were fortunate that the restaurant was within walking distance of where we were staying. We were also fortunate to be seated soon after arrival, as it's clearly a popular spot. We sat near a massive stone fireplace toward the back of the restaurant and enjoyed very good service. The proprietor at our B&B recommended this restaurant, and specifically the trout. So that's what we both ordered. It tasted fresh and was wonderfully prepared with a nutty crust. The fish was served atop a bed of rice and accompanied by freshly-shelled peas, a couple of small (undercooked) carrots, a couple of huge blackberries, and a delightful smear of blackberry sauce. We would definitely return for the trout... or to try other entrées that looked very good on the menu. read more

There are so many better places in Springdale that cost less money. My hubs and I were seated near a table of 8 or 10, and the waitress that was serving that table bumped into me twice. The first time I got an apology but the second time I got nary a glance. Ok, whatever, maybe the food will make up for this... But it really didn't. I ordered the polenta veggie dish and my husband got the Muscovy duck dish. First off, these triangle plates are just awful. They do not look pleasing to the eye, and the plate looks overloaded. My plate is an utter mess. I basically got charged $18 for 3 vegetable sides that were totally bland and flavorless. My husband's duck was fine. The spaghetti squash and old tough peas were a strange combo. My veggie "ribbons" were cut in matchsticks and mostly contained carrot. As a matter of fact, the whole dish tasted like carrots. Nothing else. The red pepper "coulis" was red colored water. Not a sauce like consistency, not even salted. I got one polenta cake. Also no flavor. I rarely ever salt my food at a restaurant and I salted that dish 4 times and still could not taste anything. No. Save yourself and your tastebuds the trouble. read more
