Rounded up to five stars for now... but seriously this place is so weird. If you go by Yelp reviews and current rating, the gut instinct is to stay away. If you look at its operating hours then you are like, "what the heck?!" Who opens just Tuesday to Sunday, 5 to 9PM? That's a grand total of 24 hours a week! Well once you have their foods then you change your minds. The foods were super delicious. The elk sliders, the clam chowders, the filet mignon, and the prime steaks were all on point. Please double check that the steaks are not over cooked. The filet mignon was the only piece overcooked for us but the kitchen made up for it. It was also such a big piece of filet mignon that you normally cannot find everywhere. So we were definitely happy campers. As for the ambience the place is upscale and reflects the high end steakhouse feel. So pricing reflected as such which is perfectly fine by me. I just don't get other local places charging equally high prices when the setting is casual. Oh one regret was that the bison steak was not available this time around. First of all, our waiter was so awesome, so welcoming and attentive. We came in at kind of a slow point in the day and we had just been hiking angels landing, so we probably didn't smell the best but he didn't judge us. My husband is a meatloaf lover, so he got the bacon wrap meatloaf. He said it was just OK, the appearance was amazing in a little tower, but it really needed a sauce on it. It was kind of dry. he ordered some gravy to go on top and our waiter brought him out some and that made all the difference. Could also just be how we're used to eating meatloaf and my husband thinks every meat has to have a sauce. Lol He also got the French onion soup and thought it was absolutely amazing and scarfed down every bite of it. That was recommended to us by the waiter as one of his favorites. I got the filet mignon and chose to top it with truffle butter, I was not disappointed. It was cooked perfectly, nice and lean, and the truffle butter was done just right not over the top, paired perfectly with the steak. I would highly recommend that. We got the calamari which was nicely battered (lightly) It was cooked correctly, and they even added fried okra in with the pepper mix. That was something unique to me, but it actually paired perfectly and I really enjoyed it. The aïoli that came with it was delightful as well. So overall, we would definitely recommend this. It is nice on the inside, but I wouldn't say upscale suit and tie kind of place, I did feel a little out of place walking in there and hiking boots and sweat though. read more

We didn't send it back- once you've cut into an expensive steak, putting it back on the grill feels like adding insult to injury. My partner doesn't mind eating raw meat, so I ate around the edges. Embarrassing that a place that has grill in the name doesn't know how to grill a steak. They claim the wine list is extensive- it is if you consider the Costco wine isle extensive. Mass produced and uninspired. The Muzak they play was funny.. Yes, actual elevator Muzak- and at one point it treated us to a full instrumental version of "Pour Some Sugar on Me." It was quite a disappointing evening. The food was just okay. My husband had the fish...it was okay, nothing special. I did not want a huge dinner so I got the charcuterie board and the bacon starter. The bacon was mostly all fat and with little flavor. The charcuterie board was mostly grapes, 3 cheeses a small piece of sausage and crackers so hard I could have chipped a tooth. Extremely disappointing. We started with an apps that were recommended by our server~ flavorful. For mains, the steak was cooked perfectly, and the seafood dish was just as impressive--both plated beautifully and full of flavor. Portions were generous without being overwhelming. Yes, it's on the spendy side, but the quality was absolutely worth it. Another amazing meal. Nichole was a great server. The buratta cheese was delicious with pine nuts and pesto. The coconut halibut was so flavorful and cream corn so delicate and tasty. Our steak was supposed to be medium but came out very rare so had to send it back but otherwise it was a great meal. During our four day trip to Springdale, we waited until our last night to try Switchback Grille. It was a Wednesday night during the off season so there were only a few tables. Our server (who told us he was from the Philippines, I just can't remember his name) was fabulous! He was so friendly and personable and thoroughly made our experience fantastic! My husband and I both ordered the flat iron steak, mash potatoes and Brussels sprouts to share. HOLY COW was the steak juicy and flavorful!! The mash potatoes and Brussels were truly fantastic and we ate everything on the table. We somehow saved room for dessert and got the crème brûlée. I'm not lying when I tell you.... That was the best looking dessert menu I've seen at a restaurant. Every single item sounded absolutely delicious and it was so hard to decide. Though I did not take photos, we were blown away by our experience. We live in Charleston, SC so we are surrounded by some good eats. We both agreed this was one of our favorite/best dinners we've had in a LONG time. Bonus points because it's family owned! If we come back to Zion or recommend anything Zion to friends or family, Switchback's will definitely be top on our list ! read more

We had an incredible experience at Switchback. The restaurant is unassuming on the outside and when you walk in, is joint with a gift shop. The dining area is grand, complete with high ceilings and a fireplace. We started with the calamari, which was flavourful, and fried perfectly. We also had the bison and ahi tuna. The bison was cooked perfectly, and was juicy and tender. The mashed potatoes were like whipped cream - just so smooth and buttery. The ahi tuna had a perfect crust to it, and was meaty and tender. Service was also top notch. Switchback is on the pricier side, but you are getting true quality. Would definitely recommend. read more

This place looked so unassuming and with a name like switchback grille, we had no idea how fancy it would be. We were also quite surprised at the menu prices but it ended up being totally worth it. This may sound crazy, but the roasted butternut squash that came with my pan-seated Scottish Salmon was the amazing butternut squash I've had in my whole life. The roasted carrots were a little firm for my taste but were still decent. The fish was so deliciously fatty and perfectly cooked. Andy's steelhead trout was also amazing. A seasonal delicacy, Seasoned to perfection. He also enjoyed his roasted brussel sprouts. For an aperitif we got the ancho old fashioned wish was absolutely divine. Despite being comfortably full, andy got the crème brûlée and I tried the raspberry sorbet after being told they're both made in house. The crispy golden-sugar topping was just the right thickness. Unfortunately the underneath was a little too soupy but still tasted good. My sorbet was just right in that the texture was smooth, not sticky, and not too sweet; just the right tartness. The portion was huge though, 3 giant scoops, so was terribly stuffed by the time we finished. Next time we'll know better and stop with the mains. read more

Ok... I understand "Steakhouse" pricing can be extreme but... Steakhouses are a creature unto themselves. I found it odd, if not petty and greedy, to make every little thing a la carte. You want bread? There's a fee. You want salad or soup? Nope. Extra I got an 8oz tenderloin for $59. If I'd ordered it on its own it would have appeared as a small piece of meat, a charred red jalapeño and sprig of thyme for decoration in the middle of a plate as big as an LP. Sides- $12-14 more. But... a vodka cocktail with 2 mixers ITEMIZED?!? $12 for vodka, PLUS $2.50 for soda, and PLUS $2.50 for juice. SERIOUSLY??? They had a lil touchscreen cocktailmenu with several specialty cocktails averaging $14, so what the hell? If it just said $17 I would've rolled my eyes and thought, "Eh, steakhouse prices." Maybe don't itemize the mixers for a cocktail? Steakhouse dining is something to be done rarely, and maybe for a special occasion only. Charging for mixers should be done NEVER! read more

Went to dinner here, great location, nice decor, menu was exactly what you would expect from a steak house .... So why a 3 star? The bar set up is a mess. Chairs are very heavy, you can't tuck under the bar far enough to eat easily and the bartender has to almost lay on the bar to get a plate... I bartended for years, I've never seen a set up like that. Simple things like hooks under the bar, or a foot rail, none of i was there. Food: When you have a rare steak you have to get a crust on the outside so it's not just all smushy... no crust... I upgraded with an Oscar finish, veggies and sauce spot on, crab looked like it had been frozen ... tasted fine, but presentation was off. read more

What a great place. The first thing that you will notice is the totally upscale decor and ambiance. Class all the way. Expensive. Beautiful. The next will be the attentive and friendly service. Always ready to recommend the right food without being intrusive. Finally the food. Exquisite. My wife and I had salads for a first course. She said the beet salad was the best ever. I had the wedge and I asked them to chop it which of course they did. It was a meal in itself. We both ordered crab cake appetizers for our main course and left totally full. Our table of 3 ordered the burrata salad, bread with dipping trio, one stuffed trout dinner, two 8 oz filet dinners with shared sides of mashed potatoes and creamed spinach. All was fantastic and the steaks were cooked to perfection!!! The icing on top was the service! James went above and beyond as our server! If we ever make it back, we'll request him as our server! The steaks from everyone else looked undercooked compared to what they asked. The pasta was undercooked and cold in the center. Honestly , very underwhelming: The food - subpar at best. I've had better steaks at Texas Roadhouse in all honesty The service - I think we saw our waiter 2 times . Once to order and once to pay. After the steaks we ordered were dropped off we cut into them only to see that they were not cooked correctly, unfortunately we didn't see the waiter around so we just had to say screw it and then as they were. Switchback Grille Clam Chowder was delicious with lots of clams and potatoes and a nice creamy soup Ribeye Steak we spilt the 18 oz ribeye and was plenty for the both of us. Great tasting, tender and prepared medium rare as requested. Potatoes au Gratin was prepared differently than expected, not a real fan of the served side dish Mushrooms were a good choice to eat with the rib eye, Mushrooms were good size and on the large size A1 Root Beer Float was fun and reflected on our childhood. We visited Zion from January 3-5, 2025. Our usual go-to for a quick 3-day, 2-night glamping trip is Under Canvas, but since it was closed, we stayed at White Bison Resort (check out my review on that). Unlike Under Canvas, White Bison Resort doesn't have an on-site restaurant, and we didn't feel like BBQing over our fire pit this time, so we relied on local restaurants in Springdale, the closest town. Switchback welcomed us without a reservation. When you walk in, there's a gift shop on the right (we grabbed some water bottles there for our stay after dinner), and you can see directly into the kitchen through a window in front of you, which was a nice touch. The host stand is to the left, but no one was there to greet us since the staff was busy seating other guests. It might help to have two hosts to avoid this. After a short wait, we were seated. The atmosphere was warm and cozy, with lodge-style decor and soft lighting. Our waiter was friendly and outgoing. The menu looked fantastic--we didn't even need to check photos online to decide what to order. My husband had the steak, and I went with the trout. Everything was fresh and delicious. Sorry, no photos--we were focused on enjoying the meal! I highly recommend Switchback for its flavorful, high-quality food. Service was reasonably quick once we were seated, and we left full and happy (we didn't have room for dessert, which is rare for us). The owners also operate Dulivia and Jack's Bar. We ate at Dulivia the second night--check out my review on that as well. One drawback: they don't allow dogs. We left ours in the car with the windows cracked. Fortunately, the weather was mild, so our dog was comfortable. However, this could be a challenge for visitors traveling with pets. Many resorts don't allow dogs to stay in cabins unattended, and without dog-friendly dining options, choices are limited. Springdale hasn't quite figured that part out yet--heated, dog-friendly patios would make a big difference. We ran into the same issue at Dulivia but managed thanks to the perfect weather. Obviously, we all know that leaving a dog in the car is not an option during extreme heat or cold, so it's something to keep in mind when you're wanting to eat out in Springdale. Overall, Switchback and Dulivia were fantastic dinner spots--great food and friendly service. Just be prepared for a potential wait and plan ahead if you're traveling with a dog. For breakfast (in case you're wondering), we ate at Deep Creek Coffee Company. It was quick, hassle-free, and delicious--perfect for a casual sit-down café experience before heading out for the day. read more

We were here to hike in the Zion National Park, and came straight to Switchback after a long day up on the mountains. We did freshen up, though we were in more sportive attires since our entire trip is all about hiking. Listen. Bring your Sugar Daddy cause this place ain't cheap. Just a short 5 min drive outside of Zion, this place serves up huge portions with great ambiance. A little pricier than it's neighbors down the street, Switchback is a little more on the fine dining side than casual eats. This place will put a dent in your wallet at an avg price per dinner entre of about $35-50 for a non-steak dinner, not including any starters or appetizers. Steak dinners (market price) alone will put you out $50-65 a person so bring your Sugar Daddy (or your real daddy) if you didn't budget for a meal here. Staff were friendly, my meatloaf was delicious, and they didn't mind that we were dressed for the 8 mile hike we just completed at Zion. read more
