Other members of our party shared the berry salad ( quite large, in fact a meal in itself). Again, tasty and beautifully presented. They also had the three meat meatloaf and that was quite flavorful. Husband enjoyed his cocktail which was perfectly crafted. I had wine which was definitely overpriced (as was the food really). However, the whole experience made it worth every penny. I have an aversion to restaurants smelling sickly sweet from candied yams or marshmallow sweet potatoes at Thanksgiving. No hint of that at Switchback Grille! If you go after dark and just want to eat dinner, you might balk at the prices. My review is based on our whole experience. I had called ahead and requested a window table. Without any guarantee. After driving 7+ hours, Switchback Grille was the perfect way to relax and ease into the holiday weekend. In full disclosure, I had actually intended to dine at another restaurant but learned it was closed after walking a mile to get there. In hindsight, I'm glad that happened because I walked a bit further and arrived at what just might be the beast restaurant in Springdale! Upon entering Switchback Grille, I was welcomed by the host and promptly seated at a quiet table with soft instrumental music playing in the background. I was dining alone so the relaxing vibe was appreciated. I started the meal with a Tanquerey 10 neat while I looked over the diverse menu and decided what to order. All the food here looked amazing, so I encourage everyone to choose what you're in the mood for. I opted for the Pan-Roasted Scottish Salmon which came stacked over sautéed spinach and mashed potato pancake. Got the calamari, sea bass and spaghetti with buffalo meatballs. The calamari was fine (even if not the crispiest outside or tender inside), but the sea bass wasn't flaky or soft and the couscous that came with it was too salty. The spaghetti and meatballs were too salty as well, to the point where the saltiness spoiled any bits of flavor that was there. The service was also lacking -- was left feeling bloated and unsatisfied and when we mentioned the food was off, the server shrugged and left with the bill. Front hostess wasn't efficient getting us seated either even though it wasn't busy when we were there. If you're looking for a nice dinner around Zion, would highly recommend Spotted Dog (a few blocks down) instead! Better food, amazing service, serene ambience and way more worth the price. read more

It is hardly a great steakhouse and is very overpriced, especially for the quality, but it is good, especially if one wants to have a festive, nice meal with cocktails when in this area. For that, it really has little or no competition, so it gets points for that. The steaks are good, but hardly outstanding. Beet salad was very good. Cocktails are good but a bit rough. We had Manhattans, a usual steakhouse drink for us, ans they were quite enjoyable but decent rather than great. Decor and ambience are nice and fit the bill well for having a fancy meal when in the area, and they have big windows offering some nice views of the Zion landscape. After a long day hiking Angel's Landing in Zion National Park we were famished and had an amazing meal here. The service was top notch. Everything was cooked to perfection - fresh vegetables were Al Dente, so good! My Pan Roasted Chicken was crispy on the outside and tender inside. My friends' Mahi Mahi was so delicious and she said the Mai Tai was better than Hawaii's - birthplace of the Mai Tai! btw, we are from Hawaii. Prices are on the higher end but worth it! We were very excited to try Switchback Grille. A good friend recommended the steakhouse. They had a table ready for us when we arrived and seated us without a wait. The view's out to the park are really nice. We started with the crab cakes for an appetizer which was good. My wife had the swordfish and I had the 12oz filet. Both our meals were overcooked, which was a shame. The sides of creamed spinach and corn were dripping in sauce and not really edible. There are better places in Springdale for dinner. read more

We spent Thanksgiving week in Zion and had our Thanksgiving dinner here. I made reservations in early to mid October. There were people around the lobby who didn't plan ahead and expected tables at 7pm on Thanksgiving in the lobby area and weren't able to be accommodated because the place was fully booked. Kudos to the incredibly patient Hostess who tried to accommodate those people, she was trying to fit in who she could while being respectful to the wait staff etc. Now about the food. It was amazing! Everything tasted and looked amazing! We don't normally go to restaurants on holidays because we understand restaurants will be swamped and the food is never as good as it usually is but Switchback totally impressed us! The service wasn't as prompt as they most likely are on non holidays but we understood and thanked the staff for coming in on a holiday. I also appreciated how they offered a traditional Thanksgiving menu along with their regular dinner menu. My family ordered from the regular menu. Our steaks were cooked to the ordered temp and seasoned perfectly. My daughter loved her salmon and I loved that salmon was offered on the kids menu. Beet Salad was fine, maybe the kitchen was at the end of one of the ingredients. The potatoes au gratin were insanely delicious. I've never had them before that night but wow. We had been trying to come out here so many times but they were unfortunately closed due to several reasons and we finally were able to catch them this time around. Visited for my Ultra 50k and stopped to have this for my pre race dinner. The atmosphere felt on the fancy side and the staff were nice. Everything tasted great except for maybe the potatoes. The steak was great quality meat and perfectly cooked. I would suggest having the plates come out hot because by the time they would hit the table, the food would become Luke warm due to the A.C. blasting. Otherwise this place was good and the meat was taste worthy. They are planning on expanding their restaurant to have an Italian side to it which will be cool to see whenever we head back out to Utah. read more

My husband had gone to this restaurant about 3 months back and had an amazing experience. The petite filet was cooked to perfection and his choice of cocktail was equally as good. Tonight sadly my steak came raw and my drink was flat... the waitress took the filet off my bill when I sent it back and changed to their meatloaf ( very good) but charged us $5.00 for the steak sauce I returned with the steak...not sure why that happened. The hostess came over and apologized for the mis cooked meal and was very kind... but by the time I was served my meal my husband was done with his. Came here on our Zion trip. It is a very nice restaurant with a beautiful panoramic view of the mountains. We got the calamari appetizer and grape spinach salad to start. The calamari was okay, not as crispy as I would have liked. The salad was tasty and I loved the champagne vinaigrette dressing. I ordered the pan-seared Chilean sea bass (fresh) on top of gnocchi & peas. The sea bass was delicious and tasted very fresh but I really didn't like the gnocchi. My husband got their cut of the day, the Waygu beef steak. It wasn't as tender and flavorful as he had hoped and imagined. I believe the ribeye or NY strip would have been a better choice. Service was amazing. Our waiter was very attentive and nice. Do know that this is a higher end restaurant so it is expensive! My husband and I were hoping for a nice dinner and honestly I would have rather gone to Applebee's. We live in Vegas so maybe our expectations are high but for $200, this meal was absolutely awful. The ambiance was the only redeeming factor in the entire experience. Oh and the fact that the servers had on Halloween costumes, it was a cute touch. I don't have a photo of it but the creamed corn was SO tiny for the price. Potatoes au gratin were a huge thumbs down, they were obviously sitting for quite awhile. MAKE A RESERVATION. Don't chance it. Don't try to walk in. This place is popular, and for a reason. Switchback is an upscale restaurant with a focus on meats and fresh fish. We came in a Tuesday and it was super busy. Even though we were incredibly early the host was kind enough to get us in early. The star here in the service. Everyone is professional and attentive and exactly what you could ask for in an upscale restaurant anywhere. The restaurant has bread service, which is oddly paired with a balsamic dressing. I'm still not sure on the reasoning for the combo. The bread is fantastic on its own. We ordered the crab cakes as an app, and they were perfection. I ordered their house specialty of bacon-wrapped meatloaf, layered with grilled tomatoes and surrounded by mashed potatoes. It was very good and dramatically plated but extremely hard to eat since the tomatoes were so thick and there was literally nowhere to cut my food. It was also an enormous portion. I took 2/3 home in a box. Highly recommend this dish if you're trying to feed a small family on a dime. My husband fared better with the fresh fish special--dover sole stuffed with crab on a bed of pesto mashed potato's and garlic spinach. He cleaned his plate, but did comment that while everything was good he just was not sure it went together as a dish. The ambiance is superb. It was night when we visited but I understand the view is superb. If you're looking for something upscale or celebratory while visiting Zion this is a great choice. read more

Late in the season, Switchback was open and welcoming. We walked in for an early dinner, after going to two other restaurants that said that they were open on their recordings, but when we arrived had closed for the week or for the entire season. We admired the paintings and artwork on the way back to the restaurant, and the jewelry in a display case. We got a great table by the window, which looks out onto a rock garden in a spacious high ceilinged-room with a fireplace. I had checed the menus online and was prepared for high prices. I liked the iPad Drinks Menu, and got a regular Margarita, which included Grand Marnier, which normally makes it a Cadillac, and for just $14. Compared to Vegas prices, this was a bargain. The lovely waitress, Rosemary brought the drink immediately, as well as bread for the table. We had eaten a late lunch, so appetizers were not in order, and we went straight to the main menu. I got the Stuffed Chicken, while my husband ordered the Bacon-wrapped meatloaf, both reasonably priced at 27 and 21 dollars apiece. These each included the side dishes. We spent a few moments enjoying the artwork on the walls and reviewing the sights of the day. The meatloaf was a juicy combination of veal, pork and beef, and the bacon added to its rich savory flavor. The potatoes were creamy and accompanied by gravy. I found my vegetables perfectly tender, and the chicken lean and flavored with rosemary. These were large portions to us, and we easily had half of our meals left over. For dessert we chose the Creme Brulee, and found it sweet, creamy and rich after breaking the caramelized shell. We really unexpectedly enjoyed this restaurant, and will come back again when we visit. read more

We had a wonderful dinner at Switchback Grille during our stay in Springdale. We made the mistake of thinking we could just walk in the evening before - oops! Due to COVID and limited seating, they were only taking customers with reservations. Luckily, I was able to score a reservation for the next day. Upon arrival, we were seated right away and our server (forgot his name but he was a lovely Filipino man!) took our drink orders and recited all the specials of the evening. We were given some fresh bread, too! For our entrees, I had the Chilean sea bass (DELICIOUS, highlight of the night), husband had the Manhattan strip steak, and our little one had the spaghetti from the kids' menu. We also had a few cocktails and they brought out an ice cream sundae for my son's dessert. The entire meal and dining experience was really enjoyable. Absolutely the worst dining experience ever. After a 45 min wait we were seated. Our order should have been pretty simple. Two $24.00 kids steak dinners with double mashed potatoes. We were told it's a normal NY strip that is split into two portions. Plus A standard NY strip for my wife and I to split, and a side of au' gratin potatoes and a side of corn. After waiting for 30 min I flagged down a waiter passing by and asked if we could have the tea my wife ordered and some bread. He obliged despite the fact he wasn't our server. 20 minutes later the food arrived. The kids "NY" steaks were sliced pieces of steak and looked and tasted like shoe leather and were medium despite being ordered well done and they were served mashed and red potatoes. Our NY Steak was also undercooked. We asked the expediter to take it back as we were very displeased and it was clearly not what we ordered. She asked what I wanted and when I said "I am not sure" she asked if I wanted ice cream. I declined and asked for the manager. How do you mess up a complete order?! While waiting for the manager, we decided we were not going to stay and we would leave. When he arrived I let him know we were disappointed and would pay for the hot tea my wife drank, but aside from that we were leaving. He seemed pretty insulated and said "that's all you are doing to pay for?" Clearly, if I didn't eat the food, why would I pay for it. I told him that I have seen better looking dog food. He then told me "you are not paying for anything and GET OUT!!!!" What a joke. Horrible service, food and the manager shouldn't be speaking to people or have a job. Save your time and go somewhere else unless you want something to bring home to your dogs and a horrible staff. We should have know from the get go it was going to be a bad experience as the manager was inappropriate while seating us. I mentioned Zion Mt Ranch recommend you and he replied, "they like free stuff." What does that mean? We ended up going to the Zion Canyon Brew Pub and getting a NY Strip that was better for $24.
