I was with a group of 7 visiting Kanab to explore the Zion National park. We wanted a nice dining experience and this place was a disappointment. We came because it was one of the most highly rated restaurants in the area. I got the short rib stew. It was pretty decent but I feel that the potatoes in it weren't cool long enough because they were a bit hard. Don't let the picture deceive you, the portion was not that big. For $25, I expected a bigger portion. Five people in my party got the burger and it was super salty. Every. Single. One. It was like they just poured in a whole can of salt. They also asked how we would like the burger cooked, everyone said either "medium" or "medium-well" but it was all cooked well done. What's the point of asking how we'd like it if you're going to cook it the same way anyways? The only thing preventing me from giving this place a 1 star is the service. This place says they are open for brunch both on their website and on their answering machine. They are not! Tried to dine here and wasn't able. We called and left a message, texted (per voicemail), and facebook messaged without any response. We assumed they were shut down but later saw they were open for dinner. We decided to check it out but the menu was extremely limited and nothing like I had seen online. Bummer because the food here sounds awesome but unfortunately wasn't able to try it. read more

Passed by V45 and saw that they served fine French and Italian food! Could not pass up on the chance to try the food at a kitchen that served up fresh and amazing food! The interior is refined and very open. It is always fun and interesting to see your food being prepared by the kitchen team. The chef is also French! Service was just fine too! Food was great, we ordered the Wild Boar Ragu Parladelle, Scallop Risotto and the vegetable curry. All were prepared to the point and tasted great! They also boast an impressive selection of desserts! Definitely would recommend stopping by on your way to all the great national parks in the area! read more

We ate here yesterday. I waited 24 hours to review, and initially I was going to give this 3, but after sleeping on it I decided on 4. Fair warning, this place is pricey, 20+ per plate. We had the beef stew ( $25) and the gnocchi ($23) You know the old joke about going to the fancy place and getting a small serving? That's here. The beef stew was definitely better than the gnocchi. The stew was served piping hot, and had large chunks of beef. The gnocchi was merely warm, and the gnocchi, while large, seemed just a little to doughy. Also, something in the gnocchi dish upset my stomach. The Creme Brule was quite tasty. I wasn't thrilled with the food, but maybe French cuisine just isn't our bag. read more

I thought, French food in the middle of the desert in a small town? They're ballsy. I'm in. It paid off. The little restaurant with balls, stands true to their reputation. We ordered the Escargot and French onion soup, to start. Both were full of flavor and true to the taste you crave. Our dinner was shrimp risotto and Beef bourguignon. My husband's virgin venture into risotto had him sliding off his chair, it was divine. My beef was heavenly, exactly as Julia Childs would have it, with a great presentation. Portions were perfect, prices were spot on. We will dine here again if we ever stumble back into town. read more

Whoa. Pleasantly surprised to find French cuisine cooked by French chefs in Kanab, Utah! Great, quick service and thoughtful menu. Also loved the open kitchen to see the kitchen action. A little more expensive than your standard, diner fare but you get what you pay for and it's great for a hearty, "nicer" meal. We did the Waldorf Salad, Shrimp Risotto, and Cassoulet Toulousain (duck stew). Left very full and satisfied. Wish we had room for the tempting dessert displayed in the front. SOOO GOOD!!! Gourmet French cuisine right in the heart of Kanab. One of the first things you see is the fresh French pastries when you walk in. They're quite smart to display the assortment of deserts like that (We finished the meal with a creme brûlée & chocolate mousse!) For entrees- Herb Crusted Ahi Tuna, and the Filet Mignon. TLDR- the chef yelled and pointed his finger at my face for asking what was happening with all the food being ran out and horrible service. we spent about an hour and got no food, got the chef's finger pointed at my face and left. We arrived from traveling to Bryce Canyon on our way to Page. Got to the restaurant at 7:40. the host asked us how many people at 8:05 and told us it would take another 15 mins to seat us. Sat our table at 8:20, server came by for the first time at 8:30. My son ordered gnocchi, my wife ordered french onion soup, I ordered beef stew and calamari to share. Right away, the server told me stew and calamari was not available. we were very hungry but i settled with just french onion soup. he came back 8:35 saying they can only serve one soup. I was about to walk out but my wife suggested salmon. I ordered salmon. 8:40, he came back saying they ran out of gnoccihi. Our sever said that he told the chef that they should've closed the place an hour ago and there is nothing he could do because he is not a owner, chef or a manager. My wife asked to speak to the manager. 8:45, still no sign of our server or the manager but noticed she was talking to the chef behind the curtain. I walked over to the chef and the manager asking what was happening to our order? He started with loud voice saying they make fresh food and it's weekend and 8:40PM so naturally they rant out of some food. I simply asked why we couldn't be informed earlier about the situation. he asked me if I made the reservation. I said no. he asked me what I Was doing earlier not making a reservation. I told him confused that I was traveling and driving (Why the actual F do I have to explain all this?). He asked me to leave or gonna call the cop. I tried to explain as calmly as humanly possible that it's very frustrated waiting for an hour only to find out most of food we ordered was not available in 5 min inclement and him yelling and pointed finger at my face. great attitude. the host told me that I should have not argued and yelled at their chef. please, DID YOU WITNESS EVERYTHING AND HAVE AUDACITY TO ASK ME TO TALK NICELY? I still addressed the chef as "sir" and paid my respect. We left after I told the host i just wished they have informed us about their situation earlier so that we didn't have to waste one full hour only to be screamed and finger pointed at my face. in front of family and other people in the restaurant. Thank you for being open on Thanksgiving Day! Saved us from having to eat ramen in our bedroom since most restaurants were closed (yes, even Mcdonald's and Wendy's) What a cute little restaurant with French accents throughout and very attentive service. We made a dinner reservation a few weeks out and we're so glad we did because there were so many people wanting to dine in last minute or waiting for takeout service. They were really busy. We waited maybe 10-15 minutes before we were seated. Really wanted to try some of their items from the regular menu but since it's Thanksgiving, a special prefixe menu was offered. We tried everything! All very delicious and a perfect way for our large group to celebrate Thanksgiving dinner together. Their cocktails are excellent too, very strong! We have to say "Best Food in town". We were trying to book reservation at Sego for days and they either have an event booked, booked out for the day, or closed for the day. So we decided why not just go across the street from where we stayed "Holiday Inn" since Sunday-Friday. Man! We should just go to this place and try each of their food each night! It's a little pricey but I'm not complaining at all. They're short staff, so be nice & kind to the server. She's working hard. I ordered Brisket beef (so tender & delicious). Husband ordered Gnochi & he swallowed it so quick (his word "so good"). Then we ordered then pistachios dessert & crème brûlée. They're so good. Wow-who knew the restaurant offerings in Kanab were far superior than STG- especially in fine dining!?' Vermillion 45's menu includes palette pleasing made-from-scratch dishes with a European flair, good service, and a very nice setting. We dropped in for Tirimisu only to find you can't be the last folks to walk in and expect Tirimisu- it's that popular. Those who know- go early. We did enjoy the calamari and julienne veggies, pot of Chocolate mousse, creme brûlée, and most especially the apple tartlette with vanilla ice cream. Wish we had ordered two of those actually.... Truth is we are considering staying another day just to have dinner here and experience the beef bourgeon, Tirimisu and whatever else the chef recommends. read more

Wow what can I say. This is not what I expected in this small town. I must say I am very impressed. I had the large scallops with the Gnocchi. Let me start with the scallops, they were quite large and seared perfectly. They were served with gnocchi in a brown mushroom gravy for lack of a better term (which I'm sure there is). The gnocchi were a lot bigger then I'm used to but still had the typical potato gnocchi flavor and tenderness. The 'gravy' was simply amazing and not what I would expect served with scallops but paired excellently with both the scallops and gnocchi. This is a mixed review as we had lunch and cocktails here earlier in the day. Jordan our server was awesome and the food was great- we just had the French onion soup, fries and the lobster bisque. Our drinks I might have guessed were watered down vodka unfortunately. The bill was $132 before tip. We called back to order dinner to go and Taylor answered which I had a few questions on the menu. He went to ask about the seasonal vegetables, set the phone down and never returned while I listened to him talk about customers including inappropriate mentions. I hung up and my friend called back - she was ordering and asked for ranch which Taylor responded with we don't have ranch..... no follow up on what they did have, so she ordered balsamic. He asked for a credit card to order and she explained we will bring in the card. After a confusing discussion we cancelled the order and called rockin v. I arrived 30 minutes before closing after a 6 hour drive. The kitchen had already started closing up for the night but they kindly remained open so I could have dinner! The server was great, very attentive and kind. Had the Vermilion Ribeye, and I'm not usually a ribeye guy, but it was very good, killed the whole thing. The Belgium fries were also really good. Best sorbet!!! I was getting pretty full but had just enough room for dessert after the duck and haricots verts salad. The duck was delicious and tender. I was a little surprised with the cold haricots verts but the flavor was good. When it came to dessert, unlike many places that only have one flavor of sorbet, I had a choice of 5 different flavors and got to choose 3! I opted for the lemon, strawberry, and passion fruit, all of which were amazing! The texture and consistency was spot on. Not sticky sweet or icy/slushy like some others I've had. All 3 were smooth and bursting with real-fruit flavor. Andy, being the creme brûlée connoisseur, had to get that and was not disappointed. Perfectly thin and crisp caramelized crust over a warm, creamy, vanilla-bean spotted custard. The presentation was the best we've seen as well. For dinner he had the lobster risotto which he also thoroughly enjoyed. Unfortunately the piece of lobster he shared with me was tough and chewy. Either they missed shelling a piece or it was just over-cooked. All in all it was a good meal though and the old-fashioned cocktail was delicious as well. read more

This is my favorite restaurant in Kanab. I ate here twice during my stay in Kanab and I wish that I had more time so that I could try everything on their menu! The Duck Confit is exceptional! I also tried the Chicken Marsala another night and it was quite delicious as well. I ordered both of these meals to-go because I was traveling with my dog and didn't want to leave him in the car because it was a little too warm for that. Both of these meals really hit the spot and felt like such a treat after some very tough hikes earlier in the day. I was really happy that a restaurant as high caliber as Vermilion 45 would accommodate my take-out order because they strike me as more of an "entire dining experience " sort of a place. I would really love to have a sit-down meal there some time. I REALLY wanted to try the French Onion Soup but that dish is not able to be served as take-out, so I'll just have to go back some day to try it!! read more

Made reservations for Vday dinner. My partner and I were super stoked about trying their onion soup and risotto, so we were pretty disappointed when the hostess told us they were only serving dishes from their special vday menu. Then she told us that 3-4 dishes from their already limited selection were sold out (the cote de boeuf prime rib for two, roast duck, regular fries for the gourmet burger) Dafuq??? Whoever manages this place needs to get slapped around with a wet noodle; if you are drastically limiting your entree selection (like srsly they got rid of almost all the French/Italian entrees), I expect you to STOCK UP on yo damn ingredients. Like how the hell do you run out of potatoes to make French fries but still have some for baked potato and shoestring fries?? Y'all pre-make this stuff and freeze it or something? But let's move on to my individual critiques of each dish: Appetizers: - Escargot-- pretty damn good flavor, bread could have been toasted since it was stale - Calamari -- legit. I liked the addition of the sautéed veggies & greens to offset the heaviness of the fried batter Entrees: - Spicy pork belly bowl--mea culpa; I should've known better to not order a damn asian dish from a French/Italian bistro. Pork belly sauce was too tart, not well marinaded, and wtf is up with this pizzicato pasta? How is this SoCal girl supposed to know it's just a fancy term for 'wet limp pita chips'. This is a disgrace to pastas of all kinds - Waterzooi Flamande--it's fish medley stew with a dash of heavy cream to make it taste like dilute milk. Nice effort on fancifying this dish by topping it with undercooked julienned veggies Dessert: - Fondat Chocolat--if I'm paying $10 for a chocolate brownie baked in a shallow ramikin, I expect it to be piping hot. Instead, I got an overdone brownie (the center wasn't moist or gooey at all) that was hardly above room temp. It was pretty obvious that they prebaked everything and just left it in a warmer all night bc they were already closing down the kitchen even BEFORE we placed our dessert order. I'm giving this sad little restaurant two stars (instead of its original one-star) only because 1) Wendy was a good server and 2) hey it's Utah, keep your expectations low AF. read more

This is the one of the best dining experiences we've had since we moved to SW Utah over a year ago. Everyone at our table of 8 agreed. I had the pesto gnocchi, and it may have been the bestIve ever had,only thing that could have made it better would have been a big hunk of bread to soak up every drop of the delicious sauce. My other half had the beef bourgignon, deliciously served with a mouth watering presentation. Definitely worth the drive from Virgin for dinner soon. read more

My partner and I were visiting from LA and decided to go here on Valentine's Day hoping to score some good Italian/French cuisine, since apparently so many people were raving about this place. I should have known that the local standards for what constituted good food would be colored by the fact that Kanab, UT is literally in the middle of nowhere. Not only was their holiday menu super limited, they were running out of almost half of their listed Valentine's courses by the time we arrived, and the regular menu was not available to order from...all of which makes me question the quality of management. This honestly seems like a place that would feature on Gordon Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares. Our appetizers (Escargot and calamari) were definitely the highlight of the evening, which is unfortunate in that everything else that followed was incredibly disappointing...especially the Spicy Pork Belly bowl. Such a weirdly executed attempt at Asian fusion...the pork was okay on it's own (it honestly wasn't even braised to the extent that it should have been), but it was an absolute travesty to pair it with the so-called house-made "pasta", which didn't amount to much more than stale, limp pita chips. Even ACTUAL stale, soggy pita chips or bread would have been preferable. Unless you have no palate for Asian food, stay away from the pork belly bowl...(something I never thought I'd ever say, since I actually really like braised pork belly in general). Pro-tip: be careful to not get swept up in the hype of this place, and call ahead of time if you're looking to reserve a table, and ask about their menu for that day. Maybe the regular menu might be better, but don't hold your breath. This is rural Utah we're talking about. If you're looking for some surprisingly decent fusion, try your luck at Sego. If it weren't for our servers busting their butts off, I would have settled for a 1-star review. Good thing we had already bought some groceries and hot chocolate for our AirBnB. read more

I really think this is a 4.5 rating, rather than a 5. Parking was a bit of a challenge. The ambiance is nice, and the menu was extensive. Next time we are going to sit at the kitchen bar, and watch the masters at work! You can see the chef's attention to details. We got off to a slow start - we had a server handoff and it took awhile to get our beverages. Summer took over and was a delight! We ordered the swordfish burger. Very good but it was served on top of olive oil, so the bottom of the bun was dripping with it. The short rib stew was amazing! And the house salad is perfectly dressed. The ribeye was cooked perfectly with a nice crisp and cooked to a perfect medium rare. The lobster ravioli was decadent. A little rich but the portion was the perfect size before it became too much. Some of our favorites are the chicken fricasee, the lamb shank, and the onion soup. At brunch, the french toast with homemade passion fruit syrup is excellent! Its difficult to choose a favorite dessert but we love the chocolate mousse with homemade whip cream.The atmosphere is similar to a chalet, and is very light and bright! Surprise find in the middle of nowhere after a few days of uninspiring food. Had fried calamari, wild boar ragout pappardelle, tomato sauce spaghetti, Napoleon cake for dessert. Calamari was excellent, the wild boar ragout was really good, pappardelle a bit too thick for my taste, but ok, the kids spaghetti was very well done, considering how awful kids food is usually at normal restaurants. The lowlight was the Napoleon, I'm a fanatic of this cake so I have very high standards, and this one was average. Overall 5*, if you drive through Kanab you have to stop here!
