What I love about Veggie Heaven is that it never disappoints. I've gone here to grab a meal since I was in high school. When you enter the restaurant, everyone is friendly and you instantly feel welcomed and relaxed. The place has a very chill vibe. I go for the booths if available, but the tables are fine and have just the right amount of spaces between each. VH is a great place to for two to four people, though they can accomodate more. The menu has so many different pan-Asian options. If you are not familiar with mock meat, VH is a wonderful place to try it. For most of the dishes, I forget that they are vegetarian; totally fooled. The only exception are the shrimp dishes, but - and this is just my opinion - that's just the nature of certain fake seafoods. The mock shrimp dishes are tasty; they just don't taste like the real thing to me. Anything you order will most likely satisfy. Plus, you get pickled cabbage for free before your food comes out of the kitchen. Extra points for that. :) Note - VH is on a corner, so it's easy to find. It's also close to the train station. I usually go to Veggie Heaven in Teaneck so it was nice to try a new spot. Note it's mostly street parking so that can be a pain point. The inside decor is a lot better than the one. The staff was friendly and quick. The food was just as good as their other location. But I always feel I need a lot of water afterwards! I think it's the amount of salt. We called in an order for the Spicy "Tuna" Roll, "Chicken" in garlic sauce, and "Chicken" & broccoli in garlic sauce about 10 minutes before we arrived and it was hot, fresh, and ready. We traveled about 45 minutes to get home smelling the familiar scents of garlic and soy sauce. We opened our containers in the kitchen and stole a taste as we plated our meals. I enjoy me a bacon cheeseburger as much as any other sick, meat-loving individual who doesn't care about their carbon footprint. I'm giving this place a 5-star because their imitation chicken/crab/even shrimp, etc. tastes BETTER than the real deal most of the time. ...Especially their almond chicken. I think they have 2 types of imitation chicken, but it has a great texture and they season it well. It imitates real chicken just well enough that you know you're not eating meat, but you don't care, because once again, this shite is better. However, just excellent food is not sufficient for 5-stars in my opinion, so here are some other reasons. 1. Their lunch specials are even valid on Saturdays. I come here with a vegetarian coworker after we work our morning shift on Saturdays so this is perfect. 2. It's BYOB, which is great, since you're already saving the planet eating here so you deserve to get MESSED UP. 3. The waiters are great, and bonus if you speak Mandarin. Also, you can find them doing their thang on a giant mountain of green beans at a table by the kitchen, which is how you know a Chinese restaurant is legit. 4. Where else are you gonna get vegan sushi. Where. I personally recommend the Dragon Roll and the Veggie Heaven Roll. I don't know what hallucinogens or tragic personal fumbles led to these other less-than-stellar reviews, but I see some of the reviewers come here and just order vegetables and tofu (WHY?), others complain about the service (there's a language barrier), others complain that the fake meats taste like rubber/plastic/whatever (Yeah maybe if rubber and plastic tasted simply delectable), and some others literally don't know how to pour tea for themselves (I can't help you). I would literally become a vegan if I could just eat Veggie Heaven because I wouldn't need meat to satisfy me. Had a wonderful meal here today! Homemade iced tea and edamame to start (great choices). For meals, I had the general tso's and my partner had the tofu with ginger scallion sauce. White rice or fried rice as an option with both. My meal was delicious! It didn't look like much to start, but I couldn't even finish it. I don't know what the meat substitute is for the chicken, but it tasted surprisingly good. I think this restaurant also gets the general tso's spice level just right. I felt like I died and went to veggie heaven! LOL So honestly, everything we tried was delicious, however, I wouldn't consider it health food. It's mostly fried, in a sauce, battered and sugary. It's delicious!!! I loved the duck, the beef, and the sesame tofu. We tried a lot of different things. The barbecue ribs were my absolute favorite. Unbelievably tender and tasty. My least favorite, I liked it but I liked the other items better, would have been the scallion pancakes. I thought they needed more scallions. It is an amazing healthy alternative for the same Chinese food that people enjoy and their menu also includes sushi. This trip we ordered the general Taos chicken, peanut noodles, sweet and sour pork, and some sushi rolls. I went with my sister and husband today. I have a gluten allergy. I know they have gluten free selections. I marveled at the gluten free soy sauce bottle on the table. I ordered the pork fried rice as fried rice is a delicacy for me. The waiter confirmed it was a gluten free selection. When it came, I poured the soy sauce all over it and began to chow down. I noticed there was no pork, and I was served vegetable fried rice. I informed the waiter who now told me that the pork was not gluten free. I changed my selection to the mango chicken. As he took my plate away, he proceeded to tell me that the soy sauce was not gluten free and that they just use that bottle and refill it with regular soy sauce. I was aghast. I confirmed it was definitely not gluten free as it has HUGE letters saying GLUTEN FREE all over it in many languages. He said again they just refill the bottle with regular. I went to vomit in the bathroom. I discussed this with my husband in front of waiter and asked for directions to the bathroom. This is my best option to avoid the inevitable later. I was so livid that I walked right from the bathroom directly out the door. I called my husband from outside the restaurant saying I needed to leave. And....THEY CHARGED US FULL PRICE FOR EVERYTHING. My husband wanted to get out of there so he didn't cause a stink. He did let them know how absolutely stupid that was. I'm just utterly aghast at the whole experience. VEGGIE HEAVEN⁣ ⁣ We stumbled across this adorable Asian restaurant with our stomachs growling and craving some good vegan food!⁣ ⁣ We started by ordering drinks. A Thai tea made with soy milk and a Tropical Blend smoothie that had , , , & ! The Thai tea brought us back to Thailand & the tropical smoothie made us feel like we were sipping it on a beach !⁣ ⁣ Next, we ordered a wonton soup & a miso soup . The wonton soup was filled with (we believe) cabbage & the wonton dumpling was so soft! The broth was so flavorful! We haven't had this soup I'm so long since it usually has beef but we were so happy that this was EXACTLY how we remember it. The miso soup was a traditional miso soup but delicious nonetheless!⁣ ⁣ After the soups, out came our sushi rolls! When we first saw the menu it freaked us out! We were confused, as this is an all vegan restaurant, it had "spicy tuna," "spicy salmon," "eel," etc! We double checked with the waiter & YES! It was ALL vegan!! We ordered a spicy salmon roll & an eel cucumber roll! the spicy salmon mimicked the flavor well, however the texture was harder. But because the flavor was so on point, it didn't matter! The eel roll was the opposite! It LOOKED & had the texture of eel but tasted like bacon! That roll was really good anyway as well!!⁣ ⁣ For our entrees, we got the general tsos chicken (first pic!) & a beef fried rice . This BLEW us away. We ended up going "halfsies" ! The chicken was crispy & tasted SO REAL! It's not like usual general tsos chicken where it's deep fried in unhealthy batter, but it had a nice crisp to it. The fried rice seemed like a healthier option as well but wasn't lacking flavor! The "beef" in it tasted so realistic it was crazy. ⁣ ⁣ Lastly, we finished off with the carrot cake. The icing was light & flavorful & the cake was also airy. The dessert was nice & light so I would recommend getting it even if you feel full! It was WORTH every bite.⁣ ⁣ Overall, the prices are AMAZING! They are fair & you get SO MUCH food for a great price. The atmosphere was also traditional & adorable. I was very pleasantly surprised to see that they expanded their menu, most prominently by adding a sushi section! Teaneck still wins because their menu is the size of an encyclopedia but very nice to see that the Montclair location is making positive changes. Veggie heaven is a well- known spot for Vegans to come to within Montclair. They have your gluten free and vegetarian style options. This was my first vegan-spot I tried. My waiter was entertaining. However, judging off the food, I think I'd have to say I wasn't impressed. I am no Vegan, but I wasn't sure if this was the place I needed to come to for the first time. It is possible the choice of food I was introduced to wasn't right for me because I wasn't a fan. The platter I had was supposed to be vegan-pork, spare rib tips. I am not a pork lover period, therefore it's hard to say if this was good or not, but I rather just have plain regular pork if that were the case. I wasn't a fan of the beef either. I thought the veggies were a bit greasy too. I did enjoy the chicken, but I always like chicken, can't go wrong with that. I was hungry right afterwards; so I ordered a sushi roll.
