UM, this place is delicious! Small, cute, and quaint too. I ordered the steak sandwich with a salad and whew -- so flavorful, perfectly seasoned, and super filling. The steak was tender, the bread was fresh, and everything worked together so well. Other items at our table included the kids' grilled cheese (simple but done right -- crispy on the outside, v gooey on the inside), the hot chicken sandwich (great crunch with just the right kick of heat), and a matcha that was smooth and not overly sweet. Stopped by around 11:30 on a rainy Sunday. Totally packed house. Once you order at the counter you can choose to dine in or take out. Variety of tables and a few stools by the window. Friendly staff mostly teenagers and college aged students. Menu wise it offered a great variety and not too pricey in addition to a number of baked goods both savory and sweet. Quinoa kale bowl (2/4) great portion but flavor wise would say it was lacking for sure. Filling and healthy. Chicken schnitzel (5/5) great crispy chicken and batter to chicken ratio was perfect. Piping hot upon serving and yummy side salad with fries for $4 + Marcel Shakshuka (5/5) great flavor and decent portion with a proper amount of pita bread on the side. The focaccia shakshuka was pretty filling and a perfectly cooked runny egg on top. Very bold flavors may be a bit much along personally would just share as a little app. Parking nearby- lot and street parking. Marcel has the freshest foods. I love their chocolate halva. Whether you dine in or grab and go, which what I do... a lot, the food is delicious. Their pita chips to go with the hummus are excellent. The staff is so friendly and helpful. I can honestly say I am in there weekly. I also started buying their dinners for two, which consists of an amazing rotisserie chicken. Whatever special spices they use, it is magic. You also get a salad, pita, hummus and chocolate chip cookies. I have now put that in my dinner rotation. read more

The chicken shawarma pita was also packed with flavor but I felt that there wasn't a good balance of chicken and pickles/veggies. This place is added to my Montclair brunch/lunch list. The shakshuka mish mish was just as good as I remember from Mish Mish. Subtly spicy, robustly flavorful tomato sauce with flourishes of addicting za'atar. A fresh, tender pita comes with it. I wish the poached eggs were a bit less done but overall my meal was solid. The downside is the size of the place and its popularity. There's only 5-6 tables inside and 4 outside, which left me waiting for 30 minutes. The drill is: order at the register and then sit. They'll call your name and walk your order over. I recommend grabbing a paper menu from up front bc it's not displayed anywhere. Seasonal specials are on the chalkboard behind the doors that open to the place. To avoid paying for parking drive 1 block away from the train station. Stop at Vesta for some chocolate and pick up some cheese at Van Hook on your way out. read more

It's been a while since I've made a Yelp review. I'm happy this review of Marcel's Bakery & Kitchen is my first in quite some time. First, I've driven by this gem of a place a thousand times and had no idea what I was missing. I decided to meet up with a friend at a local spot in Montclair. Naturally, I suggested Starbucks but she suggested and preferred Marcel's. I had no objection. I love to try new places, especially in Montclair. I arrived on time at a non-peak time - 4:30ish. Immediately I looked around and took in their ambiance. It was extremely clean, and bright yet had a cozy and warm feel to it. (Perhaps it was the delish-looking pastries that gave it that warm touch) I glanced over to my right as soon as I walked in, to their grab-and-go options. There were plenty of incredibly healthy options to choose from. (I was so happy to see that). However, I couldn't make a decision. I wanted to taste everything!! (It didn't help that I was famished. I opted for their special - Chicken Schnitzel in the best darn warm pita I've ever had, and a side of field greens w/a hint of lemon dressing (it was perfect). It's been a few years since I've ordered a Dirty Chai Latte and this was just what I needed. The gorgeous design was a sweet touch. My Friend had mint hot tea which smelled so delightful. We decided to sit outside since the fan was cooling us a bit much and we needed to warm up some. I spotted a book nook upon leaving and it brought a smile to my face. (I love books) I'm thinking of going back this weekend to donate the poetry book I just launched, to Marcel's, so they can add it to their collection of books on the shelves. They have a nice amount of seating outside. The evening was perfect to sit and enjoy the sunset and chat away. Customers sitting alongside us were friendly and the aroma of the food they ordered smelled incredible!!! My friend and I stayed until just about closing. The owner was super polite, waved goodbye, and bid us a great rest of our night. The employees were courteous and did not rush us out and offered us to stay longer until they were ready to bring the chairs in. I can't wait to go back and try the other items on the menu. I highly recommend this place if you're looking for healthy or vegan options, kind and courteous service, and no pressure place to just sit, relax and enjoy some quality catch up time with friends. 5 for me! read more

Mish Mish/Marcel makes the absolute best shakshuka I've ever had in my life. It was true years ago, back when Mish Mish had a storefront on Glenridge Ave, and it's still true now. I don't know how they do it, but it's perfect every time. Perfectly flavored and spiced. (I do wish they'd bring back the non-vegan Moroccan meatballs, but whatever, besides the point.) Then I was only given my food and not my capucchino. I had to ask a few times for it while my food got cold and more people came and went. I was treated rudely by a staff member when I asked what happened to my cappuccino. Ambiance is quite chaotic. The space is too small for the amount of customers. First, if you're looking for MishMish, it's actually Marcel now. So just a quick tip in case you're in the area looking for it. The menu looks basically the same though, so it was fine with me. We came in around 12:30pm on a Sunday and were able to snag a table for 4 after ordering. You order at the counter, they give you a number, and they bring it over to your table. I had the Israeli Breakfast, X had the Chicken Shawarma Sandwich, and a friend had the Falafel Bowl with a side of zaatar potatoes. The potatoes were great. I also had a side of hummus from the fridge and it came with a pita. The hummus was fantastic and I really enjoyed my breakfast. My sister and I have only visited a couple times, but it's probably our favorite brunch spot in north Jersey. Everyone is super friendly and the food is amazing. We are absolutely in love with the challah French toast - so simple, yet so delicious. While it's good on its own even without any syrups, we love how it's paired with whipped cream and fresh fruits. I may be so bold to say it's the best French toast I've ever had. We've also tried the shakshuka and the seasonal honey glazed fried chicken sandwich. Both were yummy, but we especially enjoyed the sandwich. The chicken was perfection and I even ate the pickles despite usually not liking them. We definitely want to try more of their pastry section (I've been eyeing the Jerusalem bagel) and liked both the coconut tea cake and pecan buns that we'd had. For drinks, out of the hazelnut mocha and lavender matcha, we vote for the hazelnut mocha.
