3 for 3 on the businesses I visited during my short day trip to Montclair. Toros was the site of our lunch before catching a ballet nearby, and with so many great restaurant options in the area, we were a bit stumped on where to go. After I compiled a list of the best sounding spots, my friends helped us settle on Toros, because we wanted a fresh, mediterranean meal. The flavors were on point and they were not shy about portions. We ordered stuffed cabbage, chicken skewers, and hummus, and they brought out a huge plate of house salad and buttery rice with slivered carrots. The chicken was charred and cooked to perfection and the stuffed cabbage had me wondering why I ever doubted this dish. Our food came out promptly and our server was super nice. The space is very clean, a little rustic, and so cozy for lunch or dinner. I'm so glad we landed here!

DELICIOUS Toros Shepherd Salad

I recently visited Toros with some Turkish friends and family (it's always a good sign when Turkish folks recommend a Turkish place, right?). I'm truly grateful we found it! The ambience is warm and ornate--truly out of a story book! The food was absolutely incredible all around. Let's start with the bread, which blew me away. We had to take some to go--it was that good! They make it fresh in another one of their locations and you can certainly tell it's their own. Great flavor, fluffiness, and crust. Next up, we ordered the hummus which was creamy and delicious (especially with the bread!). After that, we got the shepherd's salad which was refreshing, well-seasoned, and was gone by the end of the meal! I tried the moussaka as my entree which had a rich flavor and came with the most fantastic rice and bulgar. My brother tried the kebab entree and WOW. The seasoning on the meat left me speechless. My mother's vegetarian dish and friend's fish dish were pretty good, albeit not as "wow-ing" as the other food. If you come here, I highly recommend trying out the kebab--you'll thank me!! The service was attentive, albeit a bit cold and curt in demeanor... I see other reviewers had a similar experience. However, I have to give props to our server who spoke Turkish with our family friends, who are from Turkey originally--I could tell it meant a lot to them. Overall, I really enjoyed the experience and amazing food and will be back!

Lebni- excellent! Thick and flavorful!

Service was standard. The inside decor is nice. There is a good amount of outside seating in a little courtyard in the back. The food was very good: -lebni: lightly flavored and absolutely delicious with their warm, fresh bread - toros combination platter: good variety of meats and adequate amount of food for the price. Meats were nicely grilled and well-flavored. Would recommend.

Seated in patio with menus, bread, and bottle of water

Last evening, I took my partner out to dinner here for a special occasion. We've been fans of the original Paterson location for years, and have also enjoyed times at Clifton, but this was our first time dining at the Upper Montclair location. With it being a Friday night, I called the restaurant earlier that day to place a reservation (just in case it was busy and there may be a wait for a table - I wasn't sure). Later that day, when we walked inside Toros, a woman greeted us and lead us through the restaurant to the patio where she gave us an option of two two-person tables. After were were seated, we were given menus and bread/butter and a bottle of water were placed on our table. When you think of Turkish cuisine, you think of the meats - doner, kebabs, etc. However, it's possible to enjoy a delicious meal as a vegetarian...My partner is vegetarian. Note - Technically, there is only one vegetarian entrée on the menu here, but there's a whole selection of delicious hot and cold appetizers that are vegetarian friendly. For example, below what is what we ordered (minus, my Adana Kebab entrée - my favorite) VEGETARIAN-FRIENDLY DINNER ORDER - Coban Salata - they'll ask if you want the feta cheese on it or not - Patlican Soslu - one of our favorites. so good with bread... tomato-based, an alternative to the other eggplant based apps that have a smoked/smokey flavoring (partner is not into smokey flavor profile) - Sigara Boregi - my partner's favorite app of the night - cheese-filled crispy filo with the little salad on the side - Mucver - pan-fried zucchini fritter - fresh, light, refreshing with the yogurt and dill - Sebzeli Guvec (vegetable dish) - under traditional Turkish cuisine on menu Other vegetarian-friendly appetizer options of note are hummus and falafel, but we have these regularly, so we passed last night. For dessert, baklava and almond pudding are nice, too. We hope to come back again with friends. Toros is highly recommended! Especially if you can get a patio table when the weather is nice this summer.

Ordered: Coban Salata - Sheperd's Salad (~$15): chopped cucumbers, tomatoes, tender long green peppers, red onion & parsley tossed with extra virgin olive oil & vinegar Arnavut Cigeri - Fried Veal Liver (~$17): tender fried veal liver breaded & pan-fried, then blended with seasoning & herbs Small Mixed Appetizer Platter (~$26): 6 choices: stuffed eggplant, babagannush, hummus, lebni, stuffed grape leaves, tabbouleh Toros Karisik - Toros Combination Plate (~$36): 1 izgara kofte served with a half portion of adana, chicken, shish & doner kebab Baklava (complimentary) Kazandibi (complimentary): baked and caramelized light milk pudding Diet Coke (~$3) Aya's take: We stopped by Toros for dinner after our original dinner spot fell through. Being Middle Eastern, I'm a big fan of Turkish food as it is fairly healthy, filling, and full of flavor. We started off with the Coban Salata, Arnavut Cigeri, and Small Mixed Appetizer Platter. The Coban Salata is a must. It was simple, crunchy, and deliciously fresh. I've never had fried liver the way this Arnavut Cigeri was served. It was breaded which I found a bit unusual, as it's usually only pan-fried with the seasonings & herbs. It was still somewhat addicting, just not what I expected. The Small Mixed Appetizer Platter was great for sharing among the 4 of us. The stuffed eggplant stood out to me the most. I'm a sucker for combination platters as it gives me the chance to try a bunch of items at the same time, so the Toros Karisik was perfect. I particularly liked the izgara kofte and adana kebab. Their rice is also unbelievably buttery and soft! I absolutely loved it. As we were finishing up, they gave us some complimentary desserts which is always appreciated. The Baklava and Kazandibi were sweet, delectable, and a great way to close off the meal. If you find yourself craving Turkish cuisine in the Montclair area, look no further than Toros.

First time visiting Toros. Went on a weekend evening for dinner with friends and family. Quick to get a table since we went there early. Restaurant staff did not come across friendly. Ordered few cold appetizers to start with - Hummus, baba ganoush and fresh bread. The bread was fresh, but the spreads were a total let down and lacked any flavor. For entrees, they had only 1 veg dish which I still ordered on the staffs recommendation - Zucchini pancakes - was alright but lacked any salt or spice. Lamb chops dish were 30$ and it was not even a good portion for 1 adult. We got two small chops that were dissatisfying. Extremely disappointed with the overall experience

Great little spot! Beautifully decorated with plenty of Mediterranean flair. 3 Course Lunch Menu for $15.99 is quite the good deal. Great, welcoming staff. I've also had dinner here and eaten in the outdoor courtyard. I haven't had anything yet that wasn't good. BYO-Bonus!

Excellent food! My GF got the Moussaka and I got the Tavuk Kebap (chicken kebab). Super flavorful and would definitely reorder. Service was mediocre but the excellent food made up for it.

This spot thankfully has a beautiful backyard already for outdoor seating during COVID. Tables are spaced 6 feet apart and there's umbrellas just in case there's rain. We got the cold appetizer dips (several including hummus, baba ganoush, etc) and my favorite dip was the eggplant and tomato one. It comes with Turkish bread and pita bread too. For entrees, I got the lamb shank. It was really good, but wish the sauce around it had more flavor. The meat itself was cooked nicely. Overall I'm happy with my experience here.

I enjoyed it so much that I decided to return yesterday. This time, I went alone. I was excited to go back, until the moment I walked in and was immediately asked whether I had a reservation. I said no. I was one person, and there were plenty of empty tables. Despite that, I was placed in a freezing corner by the door. It was uncomfortable and honestly unwelcoming. Nowhere on your website does it say "reservations only," yet that's exactly how I was treated. I felt so uncomfortable that I chose to leave without even placing an order. I walked in ready to spend money and enjoy a meal, and instead I walked out feeling dismissed. You lost a paying customer. What makes this worse is that I later told the same friend I originally went with, and she shared that when she calls ahead for a party of two, they simply tell her to come in because there are plenty of seats and that reservations aren't even required. So clearly, reservations are not the issue. That makes the way I was treated feel intentional and different. As a Palestinian who spends a lot of time in Paterson, I'm very familiar with Middle Eastern restaurants and pricing. Lentil soup is a staple on our menus. I know what a reasonable price looks like. For example, Kral Pide in Paterson charges $7. Charging $15 for lentil soup is excessive. It's not just high, it's outrageous. I'm extremely disappointed. I came back because I genuinely liked this place. Instead, I left feeling uncomfortable and disrespected. I will not be recommending this restaurant to anyone, nor will I be bringing friends or family to this establishment again.

We tried a mango pineapple smoothie which is only made with almond milk. Unfortunately, with an almond allergy we asked them to use water only, so the consistency was different, but was still tasty. We also tried the crispy chicken wrap, Caesar salad wrap, grilled protein bowl, and a Dubai chocolate cheese cake. Everything was ok to good. It was all very fresh, but the steak in the protein bowl was chewy, some things lacked a little flavor, while others were very flavorful. So just a bit inconsistent. Service was friendly and helpful. Their kindness and patience made me a customer for life, especially since I was juggling an indecisive human and a cranky toddler. We ordered the shrimp and salmon wrap, the tenders and fries, a Turkish soda, and a fountain drink. The wraps were flavorful and delicious. The salmon tasted fresh and wasn't overcooked. The Turkish soda was something I'd never tried before, and I was amazed by how light yet flavorful it was, all while having half the sugar of regular sodas. They also have parking, which is a huge plus, and they offer delivery themselves. Overall, such a great experience!

Seeing as I grew up in this town, it was kind of weird to see such a great Middle Eastern place take hold - back in the day it was Chinese or Italian and that's IT. We've tried a fairly extensive range of their offerings, appetizers to entrees, and they're uniformly well made and well presented. But although I found the restaurant to be cozy and my server to be friendly, the food though freshly prepared was just average at best. Let me explain. So, after perusing the menu, I saw a few Mediterranean staples, such as, baba-ghanoush, lentil soup, and a beef Shawarma entrée. So I decided to order all three of those items. Now, let me tell you not only was I excited to taste the food here, but I truly wanted to experience what a majority of people on yelp said about this place and its food. But I soon discovered that you truly cannot trust other peoples opinions when it comes to food. You just literally have to try it yourself to see if it even resembles that cuisines standard benchmarks. Well anyway, let me get to what I thought about the food. The lentil soup it's pretty tasty, but it would serve lukewarm. The baba-ghanoush was also tasty, but the pita bread was stale and void of any flavor. And as for the so-called Beef Shawarma entrée, it was literally chopped up cubes of beef! Nothing near to what a standard Shawarma entrée should resemble, or let alone taste like! To be quite honest, I was so disenchanted with the Shawarma entrée that I asked my server to take it away and just give me the bill. I was ready to go! But my server genuinely saw my disappointment with this so-called Beef Shawarma that she pleaded with me to try another entrée. So I asked her to recommend another entrée to me. And she recommended the Skewered Chicken entrée. So, I caved in and went ahead and ordered this Skewered Chicken entrée. But I should've just went with my gut feeling and just should have paid the bill and left. I say this because it took forever for them to prepare this Skewered Chicken entrée and I mean forever! And this is on a Tuesday night with only two other people inside the restaurant, so literally this place was empty! (Not sure if the Cook made me wait for this dish out of spite for me sending back the first entree but that is my suspicion). Anyway, I got my server's attention and she told me if I could wait a few more minutes because they were plating my dish and that it will be out shortly. And that literally took another 10 minutes. To say that I was eager to get out of this place would be an understatement. I was standing up literally putting on my jacket when the dish finally reached my table. My server asked me kindly to return to my seat and to try her recommended entrée. So I gave her the benefit of the doubt and I did so. The Skewered Chicken entrée was a little better than the so-called Beef Shawarma entrée, but really nothing to write home about. What a letdown! I really wanted to give this restaurant one star, but my server really showed genuine concern about my dining experience. And I truly appreciated that. And so as for my take on Le Souk of Montclair NJ. I would caution spending your hard earned money at this restaurant.
