I have had my oil changed here a few times. $100, not cheap. My car temperature light would come on because my coolant was low. They are supposed to top off your fluids with the oil change, in which they did not. I had to spend another $23 to go buy coolant. Just frustrating because people get lazy, and don't do what is expected. read more

I came in on 12/15/25 for an oil change. On 12/16/25, my oil warning light came on, and by the morning of 12/17/25 my car would not start at all. I had the vehicle towed to a third-party mechanic for inspection, and they informed me that the oil drain plug was completely missing. As a result, all of the oil had leaked out and I had been driving with no oil. I immediately contacted Valvoline to explain the situation. Initially, they told me they would not be liable because I took the car to a third-party mechanic instead of bringing it back to them--even though the mechanic did not perform any repairs or hands-on work. After further discussion, they agreed to have the owner meet me at the mechanic's shop. It took about four hours and two follow-ups with the manager, Brett, for this to happen. Eventually, the owner, Rey, arrived and inspected my car. He said they would move the vehicle to another location and "get to the bottom of this." At that point, he seemed genuinely concerned and willing to help. A few days later, I stopped by to get an update on repair costs and next steps. I provided receipts for the towing fees and the oil change service, expecting a refund at the very least. The manager, Brett, told me they had reviewed the security footage and claimed there was nothing wrong with the oil change, stating it was done "perfectly." He then made inappropriate and unprofessional comments, suggesting hypothetical scenarios such as a "crazy ex" tampering with my vehicle. Another week passed with no communication from Valvoline--no updates, no next steps, and no proof of the alleged video footage. When I stopped by again to request a refund for the oil change, Brett informed me they would not be doing anything further because they believed they were not at fault. Once again, no video evidence was shown, and no one had proactively communicated this decision to me. Brett also continued to make remarks about a "crazy ex," which I found completely unacceptable. At minimum, they could have refunded the oil change, but they refused. I had a perfectly functioning car that is now a total loss. I strongly recommend that you do NOT come to this location. If Valvoline truly has video evidence of a "perfect oil change," I am open to seeing it. As of now, they have done nothing to demonstrate accountability, customer care, or that this situation was handled responsibly. read more

Awful. Shotty work. Left an oil leak in the drain plug of my daughter's vehicle and giving her shit about fixing their screw up! Keep claiming, "they are not mechanics". SHE HAD AN OIL CHANGE!! If anything, I'm more impressed with these guys now than I was in my first review 2 years ago. They really helped us out of a jam when we had a very limited deadline for getting my husband's Jeep fixed up and the dealership couldn't fit him in. Since then, he's returned several times to inquire about prices on minor items and they've been substantially lower than the dealership each time. He's a big fan of Jimmy, who is great! I am currently in search of a new dealership after the last 2 let me down and before I could take the time to find one, my Subaru needed some attention. I've been in several times and I absolutely recommend this team to take care of your vehicle's needs for a reasonable price. They charge in labor increments so this ends up being the best deal for more intensive work, but maybe not the cheapest for quick things like a battery or oil change. They have been accurate in all of their quotes and there have been no surprise fees. They're also really clear on the difference between a recommendation and what needs to get done. They haven't pressured me to do any work I wasn't prepared to do in the first place. I also like that they are flexible about allowing you to bring in parts to reduce the cost. I most recently came to them to get a diagnostic when a dealership was being shady. They quoted and charged $49 and really go beyond expectations by supplementing their check with resources listing common issues for those models and in my case, they even checked the CarFax to verify when the work was last done. I got a more comprehensive diagnostic than I was expecting for a third of the price of my old dealership. Since I have a rather demanding work schedule and commute, they worked out an appointment that fit my schedule and the required work needed. I went in last Friday for a tune up, supplying the ignition coil packs and spark plugs. They quoted 2 1/2 hours for $245 in labor and that's exactly what it ended up being. Tony had me called with recommended replacement spark plugs and explained why and allowed the additional time for me to bring them in. My vehicle ran like a dream after that. Tony is really great at what he does and is very good at explaining how the environmental factors can be considered in choosing a part that will work vs a part you can get maximum life out of. It's also been clear on all my visits that he has decades of experience. Recently, I've been dealing with Ray most often and he's been extremely helpful and I appreciate how upfront and honest everyone here is. Everything I've been told, I've been able to verify as accurate. Thanks to Ray, it came to my attention that two different dealerships had overlooked replacing parts that should have been addressed 25K miles earlier. He's been very frank and clear, I don't leave confused or suspicious about anything. This allowed me to budget out some future work, while getting the most important items taken care of. He even suggested I find a new dealership as that would be the best choice for warranty work. Though I know that to be true, it's so refreshing that I'm getting accurate advice instead of someone trying to win all my business. That speaks to the confidence of everyone here in their quality of work and what they are best at. Surprise bonus: they have a shockingly clean restroom and comfortable chairs in the waiting room. I've had extremely satisfactory experiences with everyone that I've dealt with and all the customers I see leaving seem equally satisfied. Though I still need to find a dealership I can stand, I know where to go when I need quality work from someone I trust. Check them out! read more

I came in to get my car inspected and these guys were super friendly, helpful, and best of all - FAST. My license plate lights were out and, although I had the bulbs with me, had never gotten around to changing them. They offered to change them for me free of charge! This was so kind and I really appreciated it! The interior of their shop was super clean and had ample seating. The bar stools even had phone chargers available (android and apple). "Valvoline Express Care", as I discovered, is a privately owned garage which simply rents the leasing for the Valvoline brand name but is not actually part of the reputable chain. At official Valvoline garages, I've always been allowed to drive my own vehicle into the bay, so when I was asked to exit my vehicle for the attendant to drive it in, that should have been my first alarm.. but I was too late to realize when I got in my truck after being serviced to find that my trip meter had been reset to 0.0, which is a big effing deal since my employer is scrupulous with me to say the least regarding mileage reimbursement. read more

When my bf and I pulled up all of their workers were sitting down and scrambled to get up when we pulled up. No one greeted us so I took initiative and said "Hi!" Some young kid with an ear pod in his ear told me to leave my keys in the car and didn't say anything else. We eventually used our common sense and walked into the establishment. The lady in the front was aloof and more concerned about warming up her soup and flirting with all the workers. The kid never came and asked us what type of oil we needed or anything of the sort. The lady in front told us they put generic type and we were upset stating we wanted the high mileage and that they NEVER Came to talk to us about what kind of oil we wanted. She offered for them to put that in, but too little too late. They could have gotten more money from us if they would have just done there job, but I guess they hate their jobs. I've never been to a more unprofessional valvoline. The best one to go to is in Aubrey. They actually do there jobs and aren't lazy trash. read more

My car is always taken care of at Valvoline in Denton! They are super quick with everything they do. Oil changes are done in 15 minutes and inspections are done in about 20. They have saved my car more than a couple times when I was at my wit's end on what was wrong with it. Their prices are extremely fair when you consider the quickness of service and the quality of their work. They are always honest and never try to upsell on anything. DON'T HONOR COMPETITIVE COUPONS After the fact the guy tells me that my filter is extra, for a filter that cost (at my cost $20.99) they charged me $28.03 extra because they had to "go next door to get a filter at O'Reilly's" the normal oil change at the dealership with Filter is only $89 with Coupon. The guy was "generous" and gave me a $10 coupon, After I mentioned I had a competitive coupon, BUT it was still over $100 for my oil change and much more than what my coupon would have been. Also reset my oil change notification to 3,000 miles on a FULL synthetic oil change. I wonder how many people they get to get an oil change quicker than the recommend change interval that the oil manufacturer specifies? Been coming here for oil changes since I moved to Denton in 2012. 5 star customer care and service, as evidenced in this extremely long-winded review below, ha: I recently had an issue with an oil change: I wasn't told in advance that I would be charged an additional $8 for an oil filter (Toyota Camry) which I just assumed from prior knowledge / experience of oil changes in general would be a part of / included in the price for a $70 "Full-Service Oil Change." Per their website, "As part of the Express Care Full-Service Oil Change, we will: -Drain and refill with Valvoline motor oil -Install a new Valvoline oil filter" -etc... http://www.expresscaredenton.com/services/?ServiceID=1 I think a customer reading the above might justifiably assume from this that just like the oil is a part of / included when you pay the listed price for the Full-Service Oil Change, an oil filter would be as well. I understand oil filters range in price (though a lot are probably within a given $3-8 range I might ignorantly suppose), and hey, in America you can charge whatever ya want to for whatever ya want to (as you should be able to), but it's the fact that I wasn't told in advance that I'd be charged an additional 8 bucks on top of the $70 Full-Service Oil Change price and my prior understanding that the listed price of oil changes usually includes at least 1) oil and 2) a filter that really stuck in my mind. I might have brought a Wix filter for them to install (like I did last time at my dad's insistence) if I knew a filter wasn't included, or to be really honest...even though this seems like a great place, that extra $8 on top of the already $70 Full-Service Oil change price might have spurred me to look for a Groupon / better deal or coupon somewhere else / nearer location). Well the problem got resolved because I explained this to a manager and having heard his side (that because oil filters vary in cost it's their practice to charge for them separately on top of the listed price for the oil change) and him patiently hearing my side, he decided that the additional cost could have been communicated better and will be in the future and to refund me $9 for the filter. When I got there I said "Hey let's just do $5 instead of $9" because ya know, these seem like great people that work here, just read the other reviews---it doesn't seem at all like some stereotypical auto place which will try to greedily charge you hidden fees for everything they think they can get away with after they've reeled you in and you're "stuck" (like a cell phone service / internet provider, ha) but he refused and insisted that I accept the full $9! Saw the 2 reviews on here & the replies from the shop so I decided to give it a try. Maybe its because its tucked away from the main road but I was the only customer there!!! I immediately had an oil change completed within 15 min (WHAT!?!)!!! The staff was very nice and the shop was clean. This is now my new spot for oil changes! As a matter of fact, the only reason I signed up for Yelp was to thank these guys for a great job! ...and, no, I don't work for them or know anyone that worx there! This rating is for honesty and integrity. We arrived in Denton from My Airy, Maryland with our "Change oil" light flashing on the dashboard. We took it to this place and they checked and found I still had 2000 miles before the next oil change. They reset the alarm and checked the oil level only to find everything was in order. He did this without charging me anything. I was very thankful for finding THIS oil change establishment. Denton should be proud for having these kind of honest people working here. This was my first time ever in Denton. Before this time the only thing I knew about Denton was that they had the most beautiful women in all of Texas! read more

I was able to literally drive right off the street into an open stall, so that was great. The whole oil change took about 15 minutes, which is super fast compared to where I normally go. The oil is better quality here too. The waiting room was clean, had a vending machine and magazines. The mechanic came in and instead of going over a huge checklist and attempting to sell me all manner of fluids and repairs, he just showed me my air filter, checked if I wanted to replace it (which I did) and then went to go close up my car. Since it was during their Valvoline Rebate promotion I got an additional $15 off. I just had to mail a form in and take the card they send you back into the shop and I got cash on the spot. I stopped in on a road trip from Seattle to Michigan. I asked them for an oil change and to check my brakes. Andy checked out the brakes for me and found that one set was metal to metal, and there were issues with the caliper pin and bracket. There were no parts for my model of car any where near Denton, and none could be delivered for two days. I had to leave the next morning, and they got a guy to drive across Texas to pick up the part and be back by 8am. My car was done by 9:30am and I was able to get on the road as scheduled. They were incredibly friendly and professional. The treatment I got was amazing, considering that they did not have to go out of their way to get the part overnighted. 10/10 would come here again if given the opportunity. read more

I take my car here to get my oil changed every time. The guys are really nice and I feel like they are honest and I can trust them. I don't think that they try to sell me fixes that I don't need. One time my car needed a new radiator because it was about to overheat, and they kept it for a week while I looked for the receipt for the broken radiator since it had a lifetime warranty. I never found the reciept, but I was able to get one from a place that I chose (NAPA) since the place that they get parts from (O'Reily's) was unable to order it, which allowed me to save over $500 by not getting it from the dealer. I don't think that I have ever trusted a shop as much as I trust them. read more

I pulled into this place on a Saturday afternoon to get a transmission fluid flush. At first they said they have to test drive my car just to make sure their work wouldn't "uncover" anything wrong, which I have never heard before when getting a simple transmission flush. So after this, they say they'll accept the vehicle, a 2005 Cobalt to specify, and I go on my way across the street to have lunch. Halfway through my lunch, the technician came into the restaurant to inform me that they are refusing to service my car. So I hurry up and get back over to the shop and there are 3 technicians under my car, and not one of them can figure out how to flush my transmission, which I will remind you is on a 2005 Chevrolet Cobalt, one of the most common cars around. All in all, if the experience level of 3 technicians and what appeared to be 2 "supervisors" can't figure this simple task out, then I personally would rather take my business elsewhere. read more

I am a student at UNT and I took my car in to Express Care to get the oil changed. Simple stuff. They greeted me as soon as I pulled up (which was cool), and they said they'd have no problem changing my oil. So I sit inside and wait a reasonable amount of time and then a serviceman comes in and says he wants to show me my car after inspecting it basically... THIS is when things begin to go downhill. He first tries to convince me that I needed the more expensive oil which I told him I didn't want (I can't afford it). Well he put in my car anyways and begins to argue with me about how I'm going to have to pay for it. After 10 minutes of back-and-forth he basically gives in and apologizes. Whatever, that's taken care of. As we continue to look at my car, he points out that my wipers and front brake pads need to be replaced. It took me another five minutes of back-and-forth to get this man to understand that I didn't want the wipers, and then tells me it's critical I get my brakes replaced TODAY. He kept trying to tell me both front tires only had one millimeter left on each tire. I strongly denied because I was about to drive back to my home in Austin for the holiday's anyways. I knew of an Autozone in Austin that had serviced my car before and were excellent so I went to them a few days after my experience with Express Care to get a second opinion on my brakes and car in general. The employees at Autozone easily pointed out to me that my wipers were fine, and that my front brake pads had over 5 millimeters left... My point is that Express Care attempted to sell me over $300 worth of improvements to my care that I truly wasn't even close to needing. Beware college students and people who may not know much about cars (such as myself). Use common sense and don't allow these people to try and take more of your money than they already are. I will never ever EVER return and would not recommend these guys to anyone. Lying to your customers is completely unacceptable and I refuse to put up with it. read more

BEWARE-this place will try to sell you work you dont need. i have been taking our cars here for more than 10 years, but NO MORE. went for a state inspection today. car was rejected because of "cracked belt". checking my records, the belt had 17k on it. googling "how to tell if your serpentine belt is worn" brings up if a belt has 4 or more cracks PER INCH, it is worn. this "worn" belt has 1 or 2 per inch. so i pick up a belt from orielly's, which is right around the corner. takes me about 15 min to install. then i check online for "rejection because of cracked belt" . i see several posts where a texas state inspection station told a customer they needed a new belt, or it would not pass, and they paid the station to have it done so they could pass. THIS IS NOT CORRECT. i then called department of public service, state inspection division, and was referred to the denton field office. the person i spoke to said all they are concerned with is the power steering belt, and if it is FRAYED or SHREDDED, it COULD possibly be rejected. he offered to inspect the belt, then if it is ok, he could call the station and tell them to pass my car. which i think he did. not wanting to waste time going to dps, and since i had already installed the new belt, which was difficult to tell from the "old" belt, i returned, and was mysteriously passed in a few minutes. i have been in the automotive industry for more than 30 years. i KNOW what a worn serpentine belt looks like. and i sure aint gonna pay someone 115 bucks plus parts to install a belt that takes 15 min, and costs 17 bucks. a state inspection station should do just that, not try to sell work that is NOT needed. think about it, i get rejected, and i still gotta pay the 40 bucks, but i CAN get it "repaired" at their station. i wonder how many already have? also, dps field office told me that the "penalty" for this is basically a "discussion" with the station. read more

I work retail and because i deal with customers everyday im never that customer who gets upset and makes a scene. I did today because ive been to this place twice. The first time i was pressured into buying filters (my dad is a truck driver and i knew better). Spent a hundred and something dollars. Whatever. Vowed not to go back. Went to the awesome guys at advanced auto repair- $47 for my next oil change (after tax). I desperately needed one today and didnt have a lot of time so i went back despite my better judgement. Was greeted at my car (great!) and asked if i had ever brought my car in. I said yes and didnt think of it because they have you do paperwork the first time around. Im waiting and waiting and no one has talked to me about what kind of oil i want or charged me. Last time i was charged before my car was done. I thought of saying something but i didnt. They call me up to the counter. $80. Im upset as i was never asked what kind of oil i wanted and was charged 5$ for an oil filter i wasnt asked or told of. Gave me some bs about thats what i got last time. So? My husband used to go here all the time and was ALWAYS asked what type of oil. I was so upset i called the manager after i left- said my car "needed" this particular oil. Whatever! They don't pull this bs with men. Never again! I told my husband and he was outraged and said he's never going again either. learned my lesson! read more
