They checked the record, checked the oil. said it wasn't too dirty but good to get it changed (been 12 months) I agreed. They got right on it and did a fantastic job. No free sodas or coffee in the waiting room. Just expect honest, reliable, knowledgeable,friendly service, fast and at a very reasonable price. I would highly recommend these guys. So I took my car to Shell Rapid Lube in Denton to get an oil change today. (It's the chosen shop for all the family vehicles.) While it's recommended that you get an oil change every 5,000 miles...I've driven more than 7,600 miles since my last one. After the initial inspection, the head mechanic returned to the lobby to ask me a few questions about my driving habits. He then informed me that the oil was not dirty and therefore did not need changing. (This is the same mechanic who once told me that there are only two books in the world that everyone NEEDS to read: the bible, and the user manual for their car.) He then finished looking over the car, topped off the engine fluids, aired up the tires, and sent me on my way without letting me pay a dime. "I bet you've never been turned away from an oil change before." Said the delightfully seasoned mechanic with a kind smile. "Actually I have...by you guys." Said I. "Well at least we're consistent! Bring it back in for another check-up before you head back to Atlanta, but for now you're good to go. Happy Holidays!" Moral of the story: if you live in Denton, TX and you own a car - take it to Shell Rapid Lube on 288 for maintenance. Not knowing anyone, nor the area, I had it towed to the nearest mechanic. I was quoted the job would cost nearly $1600. By chance, a week earlier, a realtor gave me the name of Don at Shell Rapid Lube. I explained what had happened and he said it didn't sound like it would need as much work as quoted. I have been a loyal customer of the Shell Rapid Lube since moving to Denton almost 3 years ago. They have always been prompt and give the free voucher for a car wash next door. Today, I was turned down for an oil change. The middle-aged gentleman who greeted me seemed annoyed and inconvenienced that I wanted an oil change on my Honda Civic when the "oil life" gauge was at 50%. He said that is what the gauge is for and asked why I am trying to have my oil changed now. "I'm just trying to save you money, plus it is bad for the catalytic converter." While I appreciate the honesty and he did say he would change the oil, the guy completely lacked tact. He was borderline rude, made me feel stupid, and came off as inconvenienced (it was around 2:30pm on a 100 degree day) while I was trying to give him my money. I will not return as common decency goes a long way in my book. I am not going to beg you to take my money. read more

I was a loyal customer since 2016. That recently changed. I took my car in for an oil change. I got home and the next day discovered an oil leak. I took it back and they said the plug was leaking and apparently fixed it. I came home, and the next day there was still oil leaking. At this point, my husband took my car back only to discover when they did the oil change they over torqued the plug by tightening it without using a torque wrench, which in turn bent my oil pan. He brought it home again only to find again that the leak was still not fixed. My husband took it back for the third time and they put put a sealant on the plug. I knew we were in trouble when the owner advised my husband they did not use a torque wrenches and asked him "what do you want us to do?". How about pay for the damaged pan? The pan cost $500 to fix. How about paying for the damages to my car due to your negligence? That's what an honest business owner would offer. I will not let them touch any of my vehicles again and will make sure to let others know this is not the place to go for service on your vehicle. read more

My dealer said I needed to have my brakes done. I was at Shell rapid Lube to get my oil changed, so I told them to give me a quote on the brakes. The quote was reasonable and much lower than the dealer, so I said go ahead and do the brakes. They got the car on the rack, took the wheels off, and inspected the brakes, then told me that my brakes were fine and did not need to be replaced. There was no charge for the inspection. This was the first time I have ever had an auto repair shop tell me I did not need to do something after I had already agreed to pay them to do the job.
