Wolves in sheep clothing: TLDR; they will make it to where you can only come to this shop to fix your car or go somewhere else and pay a hefty price for rewiring. Came here because my front bumper was messed up and needed a radiator control arm and radiator. After three months and allegedly taking my car to a body shop to fix the front end, I picked my car up, cranked it up, let it run for a bit and drove off. Not even 15 seconds after driving out the parking lot, ( I was right next to Pizza Hut) my car started making helicopter sounds. I.e. my engine went out after being in this shop for three months. Their excuse "The oil was low" I bet it was, why wouldn't y'all put oil in a car...as a mechanic. So I had to get my ENTIRE engine replaced by them which was no cheap feat. Months later, my lights on my driver side go out, another mechanic informs me that my car has been retired by whoever previously worked on it (Barebones) sot that I would only come to them. Chance is nice, but they screwed me out of A LOT of money. Saddest part is I was recommended this place. I will never step foot in here again. And I warn anyone else . My bumper came off a week later and is currently being held up by zip ties. You'd think that after taking it to a BODY SHOP it would actually be decent. read more

I am over pleased with the work performed. My truck is clear of issues. What concerns me is the nearly $300.00 charge to replace a part that required no tools to remove or install. I myself replaced the brake pedal switch but not with a Motor Craft. The part requires no tools to remove and install. The part has 1 4 wire quick disconnect/connect and a simple turn and out and in. This is excessive labor for a no tool part. read more

I took my truck to barebones to replace a busted fuel line. They charged $227.53 to replace a 4 foot hose . They put on the wrong hose and two days later it failed. I took it back assuming they would fix it right this time and warranty their work. When I came back to pick it up the second time I was shocked they would not warranty their work and charged an additional $265.41. read more

So I have been using Barebones for a while so i should have done this review a long time ago. They are always ready to help. They will be honest because they have told me before that I could afford to wait on a certain repair that was a bit expensive so that allowed me time to gather the funds. They did not pressure me. They gave it to me straight about a screw in my tire saying some places might patch that but when I used to work for discount tire we would just see them come right back a few days/ weeks later with it leaking again HONESTY!!! Prices are fair and work turn around is quick. There's nothing I wouldn't trust with my car to this business. They even helped show me how to take off my own tail light to replace a bulb right in the parking lot. You won't be disappointed with this company read more

My truck had a horrible vibration when driving at 55+. Took it to Barebones in Denton. Bad choice. Vibration still happening after repacking front wheel bearings to the tune of $877 of which $715 was labor alone. Never use them again. Took 3 days just to change oil and repack wheel bearings...because as I was told by the service mgr they are not "making pizzas" here. read more

What a rare find! Honest, friendly, professional mechanics who are also reasonably priced. I had a small light bulb out in one of my headlights. The Lexus dealership quoted me. $250.00 to replace it, because it was so hard to get to and they'd have to remove other stuff to get to it. I did a rant on Facebook about the outrageous quote from Lexus and a fellow Realtor, Karen Spencer told me about Bare Bones in Denton. I took it in and in about 30 minutes that had it replaced for thirty something $$$! read more

Wouldn't go there unless it's something simple like an oil change or inspection. The minute I trusted them with a repair, they misdiagnosed, and it ended up costing me 3 times as much as it should of been. Instead of fixing the issue, they tried to charge me again to actually fix what was wrong in the first place. Try to blame it on me because I said "vibrate" instead of "rattle". When I say I hear a noise and the mechanic says, "it's this", I trust you know what I'm talking about and not just guessing. Respoding to the owners comment, since I can't comment myself. Stop trying to find a scapegoat, there is absolutely a correlation, it is not a new issue. Your technician misdiagnosed and you guys won't take blame but you will charge me twice to fix one issue. The installation was fine but the mounts weren't the problem, the exact same noise never disappeared, it wasn't a new noise that came up between diagnosis and installation. read more

They got me in on a busy busy busy Monday and my car was in & out and ready before 3:00 pm the same day! I feel like they explained things thoroughly and didn't make me feel like any of my questions were dumb or silly! Patient and professional! Shoddy, shoddy, shoddy!!!! If I could rate this place lower, I would. If you know nothing about cars, this is NOT the place for you. They take advantage of that. On the positive, they do live up to their name-Barebones. I understand they only fix what's necessary, however, as a supposedly reputable mechanic, how do you in good conscious charge someone over $500 for break work knowing it's not the real problem and not tell them? They argued with me and told me they did, but it was no where to be found on the list they gave me. Now they want another $300. Not to mention they put a belt on my car late last year that fell off and I found it in my driveway. When I went back to complain, their justification was, "oh the device holding the belt is worn". SO WHY DIDNT YOU TELL ME THAT IN THE FIRST PLACE! Again, living up to the Barebones name. I was a fool to go back a second time. The guys at the front desk come across a very kind and helpful, but watch out, they are fast talkers. Don't say I didn't warn you. In response to the comment below: If calling the owner and Barebones SHODDY is the insult you're referring to, then yes, I am 100% guilty! I will scream it from the rooftop! The recommendations Barebones made were not comprehensive and were misleading. I agreed to ALL of the recommendations offered which is why I ended up paying over $500 for break repairs that were incomplete and had me unknowingly driving around endangering my life. Although, I did raise my voice (which I acknowledged and had justification for doing so), to say I was yelling is a stretch. The owner raised his voice as well. Nowhere in my above statement did I state the staff was rude, actually, they are all very nice and extremely pleasant, fasttalkers and schisters, but pleasant none the less. I'm not going to allow you to make me the villain here. No one wants to pay unnecessary expenses. You are making it appear as if I gave you all pennies. I spent over $700 dollars at Barebones last week. Financing???...definitely was never offered and I would have declined. You need to take a look at your business practices and I hope in the interim, no one gets "got" like me. I was charged by their office manager as I was trying to leave. They still had my keys. They continued to scream at me to get out and I continued to demand my keys. Bottom line, I was an unhappy customer who spent 1 hour and 40 minutes waiting on a simple service that typically takes 15 minutes. Im pregnant, considered high risk and have strict times to take my meds. I asked twice what was taking so long and got blown off. I explained I had important meds to take. By the time they were done, the service guy said he ran into some technical issues. I said that was still a long time to wait. He threw the receipt and pen down and told me I wasn't welcome back. The owner agreed with him. They started screaming at me to leave. The service guy called me a very rude name that I won't repeat. The office manager chimed in and started screaming at the top of her lungs. I was shaking and wanted to leave. I told them all they needed to do was be considerate and apologize. I understand getting busy beyond control. I work in a high stress job. But when my clients get impatient I don't scream obscenities. I try to make it right. These people were extremely rude, inconsiderate and unprofessional. Do not waste your time! read more

So I really wanted to avoid this online thing, but after trying to speak with John the owner, who wouldn't even take the time to listen I decided to post. My husband and I took our car to Bare Bones to have our Throttle body cleaned, after they did the work, the day we got our car back we noticed our car making a strange noise and not idling correctly. We called and Stephen told us to bring the car back in which we did. The problem wasn't addressed , but they found other things wrong with the car. so we had them fixed. Again we took the car back and again the problem wasn't addressed, they just found something else to fix. We decided at that point not to use them any longer and went back to J&M Automotive who is very honest and reasonable priced. fast forward 4 months my husband was replacing the thermostat and discovered a hose missing off our vehicle. we have replaced the hose and guess what no more noise and idols correctly. So I called Bare Bones to let the owner know that a hose was removed from our car. not sure if it was intentional or not. Well I had the hardest time reaching an owner. Stephen kept putting me off and saying he could help. I didn't want his help. I wanted to let John the owner know what was happening in his shop. I wanted nothing from them. no free service or money back just to let him know the practices of some of his employees might be questionable, since he puts forth a family Christian environment. When I finally was able to speak to John he didn't want to listen, wouldn't allow me to even tell him what happened. all he could say was " this vehicle hasn't been here since oct. 2018" and then raised his voice and started talking over me. when I said I'm speaking stop talking over me he hung up on me. these people are thieves and use there we will check your car for free as a scam to lure people in and then find or create problems on your car. John literally didn't care or already knows. they are scamers and I will know use any and all forms of social media to share my experience. I wanted nothing John and since you couldn't just listen I will SHARE EVERYWHERE. read more

They are really wonderful! I won a gift certificate for a free oil change and didn't know anything about them. Let me just say, fastest oil change ever! And, as I checked out, the guy said the reason it took "so long" was that they noticed my brake light was out and took it back to fix...free of charge. Very kind of them! The two guys are the front desk are friendly and professional, and one of them popped back to the waiting room to update someone and comment on the G20 Summit that was on TV . I chose to come back for an auto inspection because they are so friendly, and their waiting room has free wifi and a super clean bathroom. What's not to love? read more

Absolutely incredible experience. My 2001 audi was having a slew of problems including an overheating issue that was estimated at 1500 dollars at other shops. I was able to get all the problems fixed at Barebones for 250 dollars and some change. If the pricing wasn't enough, I got the most knowledgeable and warm welcoming service I have experienced in a very long time. Yeah, I know, it sounds incredible but I think I've found an honest, reasonably priced, and skilled auto mechanic. The fellow's a certified ASE Master Technician who, as the business name implies, works out of his home's garage. He says he went freelance because he was fed up with the way so many commercial garages unnecessarily maximize service procedures and their costs in order to take advantage of those less-than-mechanically-astute, such as myself. I had a "Check Engine Service" light illuminate on my old Chevy pickup which precluded my getting a state inspection sticker and was dreading a trip to a dealership or independent garage (though I'm certain some are also honest, but which?). After making an easily-arrived-at appointment, he quickly and accurately diagnosed my truck's problem - a failed O2 sensor - and repaired it at what I'm convinced was an entirely reasonable cost. After I'd driven the vehicle for a few miles to reset its monitors, I took it in for its state inspection and it passed with flying colors. read more

Barebones has got to be the BEST. I have now used them for two of my vehicles and I am 120% satisfied. This place is great. We took my husband's car here after moving to Texas and having trouble getting the check engine light off for state inspection. They gave us a free diagnostic and fixed it right up for a great price. They also taped up one of his headlights that was cracked from hitting a deer. We didn't even ask them to do that for us- they just go above and beyond! This is now our go to shop. I often worry that dealership shops over charge me so I'm glad we were told about Barebones and can avoid that. read more
