Counter and fridge filled with drinks
    Nancy L.

We came here after work around 5 pm, and there was only one person working. She looked like my grandma's age and I felt sorry for her that she was on her own. I think she's probably one of the owners...But still, she had to do all the cooking, ordering, beverage making, etc. The interior was filled with traditional Mexican items, such as the sombrero. The service was not good. Like I've mentioned before, it was only one person working; therefore, we spent a lot of time waiting for her. We stood at the door for 5 minutes for her to come out of the kitchen. After 20 minutes past, we were still left sitting in our seats for her to come out and take our orders. Mind you, we called for her and even the sole customer, who was Mexican, tried to help us. While we were eating, more customers came. Therefore, we had to spent 15 minutes waiting for her to come out so we could pay. I even went up to the kitchen to ask her for a container to pack my left over burrito. She told me to go to the cupboard and take out my own box. LOL. The chicken breast was too hard and dry. The refried beans that came with it wasn't hot. My burrito was huge and had lots of filling; however, it was a little bland. I guess the huge portion made up for the taste? The horchata was good but felt a little water downed. I love Mexican food but probably wouldn't come back again. I believe I've had better Mexican food (not food court styles).

I live closeby and only recent that i got a chance to visit the place Mexican cuisine is one of the dishes in the world that always makes me happy and satisfied my hungry tummy This is a small place maybe 25 heads in one sitting, limited parking that is shared by other business in the block but it is free The interior decors is very latin inspired, neat place with tv,wasnt able to check wifi if its free. When i came the restaurant is half full so meaning something here is really interesting to try. Setvice is average crew were bilingual english and spanish Hard copy of the menu is avilable, not so much in there,i tried the grilled beef with beans, rice salad and two kinds of dressing The beef is so tender and i loved the beans very mexican flavored dish I had a mexican drink aswell The only thing i noticed is the pricing, its a bit pricey compared to other latin restaurant that serves thesame dishes Noise level is average, good for family, group and kids, casual attire, accept cash, debit and credit cards Although im not trilled with the foods atill its not a bad place to eat and the merit of my review in diahes was just meeita on what i ordered maybe i will try on other occassion some of the foods in their menu.

The first impression about the restaurant and their food was very authentic. We tried three dishes of food and a drink (see pictures). The portion of each dish was a lot. The corn tortilla was crispy outside and soft inside that came with some spicy sauce. Torta de pollo carne o puerco with chicken and enchiladas de pollo carne with beef were spicy. They didn't list the spiciness on the menu, but if you can't eat spicy food, you need to let the server know. This Mexican drink we ordered was called horchata. It tasted so unique that we never tried and experienced it anywhere in the past. Not sure how to describe the flavour until you try it yourself. Overall our eating experience here was very good. There is a small parking lot in front of the restaurant. If you can't find parking there, you can park on the streets.

    Shrimp tacos

Came here excited to try a New Mexican restaurant. I was craving tacos oh boy do I love my tacos. But today I had mixed feeling the food tasted good the corn made tortillas were exceptional maybe even the best I ever had but I found that that there was to much liquid in the tortillas. They were swimming I swear. Not sure if I would try this place again 3 shrimp tortillas and pop came to $21. Pretty standard with the new inflation.

This was the absolute worst as far as mexican food goes. The refried beans were a cold soupy mess. The rice was barely warm. The salsa and chips were horrendous and the margaritas was all ice blended so fine you couldn't drink it. It was a huge waste of time and money. I won't be back.

Pathetic plate of $15 nachos. I had already eaten a few, but not a lot.

This was an extremely disappointing meal. Yelp is full of good reviews and pictures of how good and filling the meals are. Well, that doesn't apply to the nachos. My wife and daughter both ordered pupusas - $3.50 for each pupusa. I decided to go for the nachos, since the picture looked good [though, no pictures on Yelp]. The waitress seemed surprised that I was only ordering nachos, which should have been a sign, but at $15 for a plate of nachos, I was sure that would be enough. I couldn't have been more wrong. This was the most pathetic order of nachos that I've had in my life. The plate was small, especially for a plate of nachos, with about one and a half layers of chips. There were a bit of refried and cheese on top. And a dish of pico de gallo. I was severely disappointed. When the two plates of two pupusas each came out, my disappointment grew. Two pupusas [$7] was larger than my plate of nachos. I looked at another table and saw a gigantic burrito. Depending on what was inside the burrito, it was either $13.50, or $14.50. Either way, it was cheaper and way bigger than my nachos. I'm sure that the nachos were way easier to make than either the pupusas or the burrito. And, nacho ingredients are not expensive, especially when I didn't get the meat add on. How could that pathetic plate of nachos be more expensive than all this other food? The only thing I could think of was that the owner went to some restaurants in Vancouver, saw the price of nachos, but never ordered any. We asked if these were really the same nachos from the menu. The waitress went to the back to talk to the owner/cook. Eventually she came back and said they were the same nachos. We asked it we could cancel the order and order something else, like the pupusas. She went back to the kitchen. Eventually, she came back and rather than come to our table with an answer, she went to clear off a table [it wasn't busy]. Once she finally turned around, my wife asked her what happened. She just shook her head and said the cook didn't want to do that. I pointed out how small they were, how expensive they were in comparison to the pupusas and the burrito, and the difference between the picture on the menu and what I got - the picture on the menu shows a mound of chips [not a huge amount, but way more than I got], a bunch of topies, AND quacamole and sour cream! Not at all what I got. My wife went to talk to the chef, and, apparently, her daughter got the menu done, and there's various problems with the new menu, but she can't get the phone number of the person who did it because her daughter went to Toronto. Taking a look at the Yelp pics, there are pictures of this exact same menu from almost 2 years ago! If there was a desire to get the menu fixed, it would have been done long before. Definitely won't be back!

    Shrimp tacos. So much yes!

The service is a little slow. But it is family owned and they only have a couple people working there. Usually one person in the kitchen and one person out taking orders. With that being said, the food is well worth the wait. I had the shrimp tacos. They were SO good! The tortillas are perfect and the shrimp is cooked perfectly. They're not super chewy or too soft and they are cooked in some sort spicy yet kind of sweet sauce. So. Good. They do have beer and margaritas there. No other liquor though. The prices are super affordable and the portions are pretty big. Someone else got a burrito and that thing was a monster! I gave four stars and not five because of the slow service. Over all I really enjoyed this place and I will be back!

The pork burrito plate is massive.

I have been here a few times for takeout, but decided to dine-in this time and the experience was great, not exceptional, but great, nonetheless. The restaurant is dim, with little natural light nor lightning, the menu is hard to read. However, that's not an issue because the place was clean with flowers on the tables. We placed an order for a chicken and pork burrito plate -- the portions were massive! The food had great flavour (there was hot sauce at every table if you like your food spicy) and was loaded with rice, beans, and meat. My only knock was that the pork was not shredded, but instead cubed. That might have been my oversight through. The chicken in the chicken burrito had shredded chicken. The burrito was topped with cheese, guacamole and enchilada sauce. Absolutely delicious. The reason i did not give this place was 5 star rating was because the service was a tad slow. I did not mind as I was in no rush. Considering this place is owned and run by a family I have no real issue with the service. However, with the limited amount of English spoken by the wait staff it was a bit difficult in placing our order. However, all is well that ends well; with a full belly and a smile on my face I left the restaurant thinking about the next time I will be back.

The place is 3+ rating. Food: I believe Vallarta's serves very close to true authentic Mexican food. I had Chicken burrito it is quite large. Easily it can be consumed by two people. Inside , generous portion of flavourful chicken included with rice and beens. Also, Burrito comes with melted cheese and guacamole while small salad also included side of the burrito. Ambiance: Casual. Very nicely decorated. Please see my attached pictures of inside. Price: Burrito costs me 15/= including taxes. Let me be very clear, there is no soft drink included in the meal. I believe, this may be the reason why this place is not getting good review as the price point is high for lunch item even-though it is good for two people. It appears, the place is family operation not setup to scale easily to serve large crowds as one family member is in-charge of cooking the meals. You can expect to wait bit longer on Fridays lunch hour if you not get there at least by 11.30 am. Tip: If possible call before you arrive and order the food.

We shared the pupusas to start which were very good. Neither of us had them before but quite enjoyed them.

We recently ordered the 8" tres leche cake for $65, and it is massive! I know it's soaked in three milks, but it was so heavy... it's finished with whipped cream and fruit, and you can choose either coconut or chocolate for the outside. We chose coconut for a less sweet option -!: it was delicious, super moist and tasty. It's a very rich cake though with all the whipped cream, so you can't eat too large a slice. There were plenty of leftovers, so we pre sliced them and freezer them. They defrost in the fridge overnight and taste so good again the next day. Will definitely be back for the tres leche, and ordering more pastries!
