    Three Birria Tacos ($21)
    Danielle B.

Went to Sabrosito the other day as I'd seen reviews for their birria tacos. I've been craving these tacos for a while so a friend and I went to check them out. I got an order of two tacos ($15) and my friend got three ($21), and we shared an order of chips with guacamole and salsa. The tacos were delicious, with lots of meat and they were served fresh and piping hot. The consomme was decent but for me lacked a bit of flavour compared to what I've had in the past. The chips were very tasty and both the salsa and guacamole were fresh with bright flavours. At $12, the portion of chips was tiny so I would not order this again. Service was very friendly but minimal - in the sense that you order at the counter and they bring to your table, then clear up when you finish. The restaurant is quite small with 4 tables that can seat 4 people each, but they're not too close together which is nice. I'll definitely return to try some other dishes.

Today, we ordered few items from Saborisito like Burrito Bowl, AL pastor, Guacamole and tacos. The tacos were ok. The Guacamole was overpriced, it was the same size of the table spoon for $15. Burrito Bowl leaked flavour, and there was no bowl making a mess inside of the box. To complete the journey, they left my order outside of the building without call, intercom or followed the instructions from the app.

A taco shop tucked away across from the Safeway on Hastings and Willingdon. It is pretty much nondescript and you will miss it when driving along Hastings. It closes early at 7-8 pm. I find it is more of a take out place as there are only 2-3 tables for dining in. There is always a steady stream of people dropping in for take out, especially on taco Tuesday. Besides tacos, you can also get burrito, nachos, quesadilla and torta. There are also desserts and jarrito and horchata. For taco Tuesdays, only two types of tacos (pollo and carnitas) are available for the discounted price of $3 each. I tried that and the barbacoa taco. I much prefer the pollo taco. But my favorite is the quesabirria tacos. They are delicious with the beef consommé dip. Lovely staff and service too. Free street parking is available outside or on side streets.

Don Oso was good but at the same time it was lacking something. I mean according to Vancouver Mexican food standards, it is really good. I have had better tacos before. According to my Mexican friend, this kind of taco can't be found all around Mexico and it is unique to certain regions. Anyways. I came here with friends on Taco Tuesday. For $3 per taco, I got 2 Carnitas (Pork) and 2 Pollo (Chicken) Tacos. I also got the horchata drink with it as well. The tacos were very messy to eat and the shell was somewhat soggy. The flavor was good. The place is super small with 3 tables and on top there is no air conditioning here. Free parking is available right in front of the restaurant. Customer service was good here. I will come back but I will probably go to their other location.

Family run Mexican place across from the Safeway. Parking is available on Hastings, as well as the side streets. The place is pretty bare bones. It looks like a cafeteria. Don't come here for the ambience. There are maybe tables. Lots of people were lining up for takeout, and it is easy to see why. Staff are friendly and helpful. As of the time of writing, there is a Tuesday special for carnitas (pork) and pollo (fish) tacos. The savings are pretty minimal, so to be honest, any day is a great day for coming here. As for the food? Fresh and tasty. The tacos are the traditional style ones, so they are a bit on the smaller end. Meat portions are generous. Served with slices of lime. They also have hot sauce (varying spiciness) upon request. The only complain is their rather short business hours. Took my friends and me several tries to catch them when they were open. I don't blame them though, as this area isn't the busiest. They do have a 2nd location on Commercial that closes much later. Worth checking out if one wants tacos in the area. Recommended.

Don Oso's Restaurant has been on my list of places to try. It's a family run Mexican/Chilean spot that specialize in quesabirria tacos. This is their OG location with a second location on Commercial Drive. We dropped in on a Saturday evening (around 5:45pm). There'a only three tables inside (total of 10 seats) but most people were getting takeout. You order and pay at the counter first. Menu consists of soft tacos, antojitos, birria, entrees, Chilean food, completos (Chilean hot dogs) and desserts. They have $3.00 taco Tuesday (only for carnita and pollo). - Horchata ($4.00) - 4x Tacos ($15.00) - we tried the pollo, carne asada, barbacoa and carnitas. The best of the bunch was the carne asada ($0.50 extra) which came with a tasty guacamole. The other three meats were similar; a touch on the dry side but passable. The tomatillo picante (mild spice level) helped with the dryness of the meats. - Burrito bowl ($13.50) - we opted for the carnitas (okay but again a touch dry). This was the saddest burrito bowl we've eaten. Tiny portion (not enough rice for filler) and mundane flavours. - Burrito ($13.50) - J ate his quickly but again, it wasn't a large portion. Was hoping for a satisfying meal but Don Oso's disappointed. Guess we should have tried their quesabirria. Doubt we'll be back.

Saw this spot get a 'review of the day' accolade & just knew right away - I need to get my butt down there!!! I've been craving to try these popular Quesabirria tacos since I saw Chrissy Teigan post about her fav tacos via - Tacos Y Birria La Unica in LA. Reading about the popularity of these Birria tacos I understand there are 2 kinds - 1 with goat meat & the other with beef. Apparently the goat meat tacos are all the rave! However, no lie these beef Quesabirria tacos here at Don Oso were astronomical - arriba!!! Located about 25mins from downtown Vancouver here on the high (Hastings) street in Burnaby, it's definitely worth it to make a trip out here!!! Heads up ALERT - I originally came here last Wednesday, after Taco Tuesday = a big mistake! They were sold out of Quesabirria - I cried like a little school girl! So I came back on Saturday only to be told they would be available at 3pm ... it was 1pm! Again I cried like a little school girl who can't get tickets to a BTS concert!!! So here I was back here today in another attempt to try these tacos & yaaaaasssssssssssss I finally got them! WARNING - this was my third attempt!!!!! So word to the wise - call ahead before you head over! DO is a small joint so plan accordingly - aka I recommend takeout! The tacos I found to be ... meh but the Quesabirria = 5 Stars! I heart TT! Go on now get down here cause you will be calling me up & saying - Mucho Gracias Senor! Andale, andale ... vamos!

My mouth is still watering just thinking about this place. Where should I begin? I noticed everyone (foodies) talking about birria tacos and so I did my research. Instead of hitting up one of the new food trucks, I decided to come here since they've had it in the menu for a lot longer. I also felt like this would be more true to authentic given the ownership and history. I may have set myself up for future disappointment after eating here because the consommé that came with the tacos was so good I drank it while eating. Can I just order a mug of this? It arrived piping hot so I started with the choriqueso and chips which was a huge portion that I eventually finished. Eat here now. Get the quesabirria. You won't be disappointed!

    Nachos with pollo asada

My friends and I were within walking distance to this palace and wanted to give it a try. We ordered via an app and then walked over to pick up. We went there on the scheduled time and we still had to wait 10mins for them to finish. They have 3 people staffed and are very welcoming folks (albeit a tad slow). The place has a very small dine-in area and we are glad we ordered take out. Here's what we had: - Buenos nachos with pollo asada: 5/5 love the non-traditional tortilla chips that adds an extra flavour and crunch to the nachos. The sauce, the cheese are spot on. The chicken is plenty. - Quesadilla: 4/5 very cheesy. The queso reminds me of the cheese I had in Oaxaca - closest cheese I can relate to is a mozzarella. - Chimichanga: 4/5 heavy meal. Very substantial. The meat tasted too gamey for me. The rice and beans tasted like any other place. - Fish tacos: 4.5/5 well battered and good sweet and tangy sauce. - Empanada de Pino: 4.5/5 good portion size to price. Very substantial as well. If you are looking for a better pizza pocket type of one and done meal, this is the one. The meat is less gamey, the dough is more heavy than flaky. Overall: friendly service, good food. Will come back again.

    Quesa Birria Tacos

I visited this restaurant to hop on the birria taco trend! That's the one thing this spot is known for and man do they do it well! Be prepared to order ahead - I came on a Saturday night and waited about 20-30 minutes for my takeout order. Quesa Birria Tacos (5/5) - $15 Taste: OM NOM NOM! Absolute perfection in a taco shell - these tacos were dripping with the juices from the beef & cheese and when dipped into the consommé, the taste of the tacos were brough to a whole new level. Normally I find that taco shops serve the beef too dry, but that was not the case here. Personally I loved these, though definitely be prepared for a rich & heavy meal. Portion Size: Large portion for 1 [Value for Money] For a taco meal, this was well worth the price! I know they also do toonie Tuesday tacos ($2.75), so I'll be back to check their normal tacos out!

I am so happy that i came here because it was super good. I was able to try the jarritos and it was my first time and reminded me of home drink so it was really good very recommended to try. The buenos nachos reminds me of pangsit goreng from home so it was good but not the very best nachos i have tried. The para dos was just perfect chef kiss nothing beats this. From the sauce broth and the quesebirria tacos they were super good. This is very recommended! Cheers!

For the starter I ordered the Esquites. It was nice but too liquidy after a while. The chicken enchilada with red sauce was ok. The refried beans and rice were not the best I had and that was usually my favorite part. The dessert was Passionfruit cheesecake. Initially they said it was out of stock and would replace with tres leches cake (yay my fave). But they somehow managed to find the Passionfruit cheesecake and served that. It was not good at all. It didn't taste like cheesecake. Good thing that's usually not on the menu. R had the tacos instead. I tried some of that. He got the Birria, asada and pastor. Of those, I prefer the pastor. Very tender and flavorful. The horchata was pretty good but at $7, I thought that was a bit on the high side. We may come back for taco Tuesday ($4 each with min 3 purchased) or burrito Wednesday ($14) in future. I'm glad this place is being used again after the Greek restaurant closed when the owners retired. The layout is still the same. It can get really loud at any of the tables by the speakers. The music kinda drowns out any conversation. Parking is available behind. Walking distance to both Patterson and Joyce skytrain stations. Or there's the bus stop nearby.

It was dry. I think with the tacos there's a bit of diced onion and tomato on top to compliment the meat. However with the burrito it is pure meat inside. I even tried to put the sour cream, guac, and salsa verde on it but it still was very chewy. I will stick to my lengua tacos. The choriqueso appy was a disappointment. It is super cheesy on top but the bowl is very deep so the rest ot the chorizo under doesnt get any cheese to pair with. The amount of nachos compared to the choriqueso is very little. You basically just have to eat spoonfuls of chorizo at the end. Our friends ordered the steak and the medium rare came medium. It was tough and had a lot of unchewable tendons.

Not so wonderful as my previous visit to this restaurant. Why? Because of my mortal…read moreenemy...Cilantro! Why, why, why do so many foods have to have cilantro in them? So...I decided to order a Vegetarian Torta. My first time ever ordering Torta in a Mexican restaurant. It was kind of like a more refined version of a Subway sandwich. I asked for "no cilantro" but the server didn't think to tell me that there would be cilantro in the guacamole. So while they didn't garnish the sandwich with cilantro, there was still cilantro in it because they had put guacamole in it. When I say "no cilantro" you should realize that if there's some kind of condiment that goes into the sandwich and has cilantro in it, then my "no cilantro" request is going to apply to that condiment too and so you should alert me to that so that I might be able to choose something else from the menu. So after waiting and waiting for my order, and then biting into it...I discovered the cilantro in the guacamole. I ended up sending the Torta back and ordering something else. I ordered a Mushroom Quesadilla. This time, having complained about the previous server not having told me about there being cilantro in the guacamole, they had the presence of mind to tell me that the mushrooms were already mixed in with cilantro. Upon hearing this, I then modified my order to a plain cheese Quesadilla. Quite a drag cuz it was a late dinner already, so I was quite hungry. Other people at the table ordered tacos and Monster Quesadillas. If you don't have an aversion to cilantro like me, then you're more likely to have an easier time with the menu and enjoy pretty much anything at this restaurant. Minus any cilantro problems, portions are large and food is very good. Oh yeah...and they do a nice Horchata. Just a shame for people like me, that a lot of their foods have cilantro mixed into them already.
