    2-pc Enchilada platter - $8.95
    Danielle B.

I heard good things about this place and popped in for a late lunch. It appears to be a mother and son operation, but that's just a guess on my part. Limited menu selection with pictures posted on the wall. Typical choices (tacos, enchiladas, chimichangas) but the guy seemed a little confused when I asked what the chimichangas come with. Apparently, nothing. Just a single piece for $7.95 and he said for two would be double the price. Odd, since the enchilada platter was $8.95 for two and a dollar more for three. Anyway, I went with the enchiladas as I was hungry that day. It took about 10 minutes for my food to arrive and it was lukewarm at best. Tasted fine, but nothing spectacular. Similar to Las Margaritas or Pepitas in Kits. If it was hot, I might've given them another star but it was a bit of a letdown to me. The people sitting next to me received their food steaming hot, so I'm not sure why mine wasn't hot as well. I'd probably go back if someone else suggests it, but I'm not in a hurry to return.

All these for under $20! What a steal. 1kg fresh tortillas, cojita cheese, 3 tamales, and salsa verde.

They have the BEST fresh tortillas in the city! They're the best price I've seen and warm when I bought them. Not to mention, they carry a variety of Mexican cheeses and homemade salsas. They also have BOMB tortilla chips that they make in house a good variety of canned foods and dried chilis. OHH and I almost forgot, they have TAMALES!!! Amazing. The lady who I met there was the sweetest lady ever, even though we didn't know how to communicate properly but nonetheless she was a gem.

I am going to say it... Ready? Best Mexican joint I have found in BC so far! There. Step 1. Print out Yelp map to figure out how to get here (holy Burnaby confusing!) Step 2. Order up a large chicken enchilada and a Sidral Step 3. Get a stack (90) of freshly made still warm tortillas to go Step 4. Eat Step 5. Look at map with full tummy and weary eyes to figure out how to get back to civilization Step 6. There isn't one. Just go. Damn it! Oh... and they have killer tamales, salsas, and legit Mexican cheeses as well. And most are made in-house. Brilliant!

The discussion on lunch places in the hinterlands of Burnaby/Coquitlam kicked me into gear to finally try El Comal. It's not too hard to find, as Winston Street is a pretty well-beaten track for traffic bypassing Lougheed. And it was worth the trek for the super-friendly Spanish speaking staff (authenticity points), good value (combo plates all under $10) and hello, muy delicioso food. I got there after the lunch rush, so didn't have to wait at all and had a table all to myself in the warm and sunny seating area / Mexican grocery store. It probably gets busy in there, but it seemed to me there is room for about 20 people. I tried the taco plate, three different tacos with rice and black beans (can't beat $8!), and it was a flavour party to the last greedy bite. I agree with others about the problem of the tortilla falling apart - a double tortilla would be ideal to hold in all the fillings. I simply let the stray bits fall to the plate and scooped them up with the rice. Afterward, belly filled with taco goodness, I mentally nicknamed the place El Food Coma, and after that, started scheming for more reasons for a midday trip to this particular Burnaby neighbourhood of warehouses and parks ...

My favorite mexican resto Mind you its a little out of the way. But if your at 8 rinks it's a short drive. Everything is authentic. They have all the products you can take home and get creative with. The taco salad for my son is the best north of the border. Friendly staff that have a passion for the food. You can't fake that. We sat at the rustic wooden table and broke open a bag of tortilla chips and combined withe salsa they were gone in no time. A hide gem in greater Vancouver.

Another gem for latin food lovers, location is far, parking is very limited,a restaurant and grocery combined, from outside its very ordinary but when you get inside the ambiance is very mexican, friendly people inside and foods will make the place extra ordinary...tamales tacos soup etc unremarkable, noise level low, casual attire, family and kids friendly,i love the wooden chair and tables....plus the wide variety of goodies from mexico...nachos,salsa and drinks....my trip is worth and will come back again....

Authentic Mexican cuisine... some of the best I have had! It gets pretty busy around lunch time.

Excellent authentic Mexican take out food. Very popular. You can also buy products that are made in house.

I…read moregot this instead of the Taco Tuesdays special - 3 tacos for $12 - because the BoB menu had enchiladas for the main. I love enchilada and that's always my go to order. For the starter I ordered the Esquites. It was nice but too liquidy after a while. The chicken enchilada with red sauce was ok. The refried beans and rice were not the best I had and that was usually my favorite part. The dessert was Passionfruit cheesecake. Initially they said it was out of stock and would replace with tres leches cake (yay my fave). But they somehow managed to find the Passionfruit cheesecake and served that. It was not good at all. It didn't taste like cheesecake. Good thing that's usually not on the menu. R had the tacos instead. I tried some of that. He got the Birria, asada and pastor. Of those, I prefer the pastor. Very tender and flavorful. The horchata was pretty good but at $7, I thought that was a bit on the high side. We may come back for taco Tuesday ($4 each with min 3 purchased) or burrito Wednesday ($14) in future. I'm glad this place is being used again after the Greek restaurant closed when the owners retired. The layout is still the same. It can get really loud at any of the tables by the speakers. The music kinda drowns out any conversation. Parking is available behind. Walking distance to both Patterson and Joyce skytrain stations. Or there's the bus stop nearby.

Lengua, Arrachera and Compechano and it took 40min minutes...ordered at 6:50PM and food arrived a bit after 7:30PM. It was pretty busy on a Friday night, the table next to us was also waiting a long time. Saw two birthdays, and they brought out a sombrero hat and cheer, which was fun. My friend ordered the pork belly & tuna and it was super dry. Free parking in a small lot behind the restaurant. Decor inside was fun, lovely and vibrant.

Came for something non taco and got the burrito instead. I really wanted the lengua but not sure…read morewhy lengua is offered for tacos and tortas but not burritos. I opted for carnitas. It was dry. I think with the tacos there's a bit of diced onion and tomato on top to compliment the meat. However with the burrito it is pure meat inside. I even tried to put the sour cream, guac, and salsa verde on it but it still was very chewy. I will stick to my lengua tacos. The choriqueso appy was a disappointment. It is super cheesy on top but the bowl is very deep so the rest ot the chorizo under doesnt get any cheese to pair with. The amount of nachos compared to the choriqueso is very little. You basically just have to eat spoonfuls of chorizo at the end. Our friends ordered the steak and the medium rare came medium. It was tough and had a lot of unchewable tendons.

Not so wonderful as my previous visit to this restaurant. Why? Because of my mortal…read moreenemy...Cilantro! Why, why, why do so many foods have to have cilantro in them? So...I decided to order a Vegetarian Torta. My first time ever ordering Torta in a Mexican restaurant. It was kind of like a more refined version of a Subway sandwich. I asked for "no cilantro" but the server didn't think to tell me that there would be cilantro in the guacamole. So while they didn't garnish the sandwich with cilantro, there was still cilantro in it because they had put guacamole in it. When I say "no cilantro" you should realize that if there's some kind of condiment that goes into the sandwich and has cilantro in it, then my "no cilantro" request is going to apply to that condiment too and so you should alert me to that so that I might be able to choose something else from the menu. So after waiting and waiting for my order, and then biting into it...I discovered the cilantro in the guacamole. I ended up sending the Torta back and ordering something else. I ordered a Mushroom Quesadilla. This time, having complained about the previous server not having told me about there being cilantro in the guacamole, they had the presence of mind to tell me that the mushrooms were already mixed in with cilantro. Upon hearing this, I then modified my order to a plain cheese Quesadilla. Quite a drag cuz it was a late dinner already, so I was quite hungry. Other people at the table ordered tacos and Monster Quesadillas. If you don't have an aversion to cilantro like me, then you're more likely to have an easier time with the menu and enjoy pretty much anything at this restaurant. Minus any cilantro problems, portions are large and food is very good. Oh yeah...and they do a nice Horchata. Just a shame for people like me, that a lot of their foods have cilantro mixed into them already.
