If you're on the hunt for a place that serves up bold, mouthwatering flavors with every bite, look no further than Maizal! From tacos to burritos and everything in between, this spot hits all the right notes. * Tacos ($5.95 each)The taco selection here is nothing short of amazing. I tried a few different varieties, and each one was packed with flavor: * Campechano: A perfect blend of beef and pork with a delicious smoky flavor. * Chorizo minced pork: Spicy and savory with the perfect balance of seasonings. * Beef barbacoa: Tender, juicy, and flavorful - the kind of barbacoa you dream about. * Shrimp diabla (+$1): Spicy and succulent, this taco had a fantastic kick. * Battered shrimp (+$1): Crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside - a true winner. * Lamb birria: Rich and flavorful, with tender lamb that practically melts in your mouth. Every taco I tried was absolutely delicious, but the standout for me was the shrimp diabla. The perfect combination of heat and savory flavor made it unforgettable. * Rice Bowl ($16.50)I also tried the Pastor roasted pork rice bowl, and it was everything I hoped for. The pork was perfectly roasted, with a tender texture and just the right amount of seasoning. The rice served as the perfect base, complementing the meat beautifully. * Burrito ($17.95)Now, let's talk about the Carnitas braised pork burrito - The carnitas were rich and flavorful, but the real star was the chipotle mayo. It added such a creamy, smoky kick that elevated the entire burrito to another level. I could honestly have eaten the whole thing just for that chipotle mayo. *I had a slice of Tres Leches Cake ($8.50). It was light, moist, and perfectly sweet. *I tried both the Horchata and the Jamaica Hibiscus Rose. Both were refreshing and full of flavor. The Horchata was sweet and creamy, while the Jamaica Hibiscus Rose was tangy and slightly floral. * Overall, this meal was an absolute treat. The food is flavorful, fresh, and full of personality.

Big portions of nachos and they don't skimp on the toppings. The Asada Burrito was excellent and compatible to Chipotle. The mole chicken taco was on the blander side.

Updated Review: Has consistently slapped (been amazing) the multiple times I've been between now and when I wrote my first review 5 years ago. I think they've added some new things to their menu. Other than that the review from 5 years ago still stands. Review From 5 Years Ago: I have been looking for a good, affordable AUTHENTIC Mexican restaurant for a while now, and I'm so happy to have stumbled upon this gem. We ordered the - Flautas (vegetarian (corn and potato) and (chicken) : they let me do half and half, which was very sweet of them. The outside was crunchy, inside was delicious. Heaps of lettuce, cream and cheese on top, simply divine. - The Salad Bowl with tofu : the tofu tastes just like carnitas, astounded at the similarity in taste and consistency. The lettuce was fresh and crunchy, all the ingredients we prepared very well. - The plantain (vegetarian and gluten free), pastor and carnitas Tacos Tacos were really good. Not much more to say. ALL THE SAUCES ARE AMAZING!! (Chipotle, Salsa Verde and Chile de Arbol) We tried all the drinks too: Limón, Jamaica and Horchata : and they're not too sweet. Finished with the Churros which were amazing, not too greasy. This is also a locally-owned small business, which is always a plus to support. Would 100% recommend, absolutely delicious.

Was walking around main st and decided to try this place out. Tbh, I was pretty disappointed. The tacos were not super flavourful and the texture of the meat was a bit weird. Also they gave one corn tortilla that did not hold up the sauce well. All of our tacos broke on the bottom. We also tried their nachos, it lacked a lot of flavour. The guacamole on top also had no flavour.

Yelpers are not wrong about this place. It is definitely a 4.5 stars. Going through a Mexican phase right now. Trying to re/hit some new and some old joints prior my Yelp days of 2019. At first glance, Maizal RMF is trying to be more modern and futuristic than it needs to be. With the RMF (real mother %^#^*?) not sure if that can be avoided.... I digress, the food alone is sufficient. They could call this place Nuthouse, I would probably be back. From what we ordered, the ingredients tasted as fresh AF. The flavours burst in your mouth. Interesting they make the taco shells in house, the lady was literally kneading the doe right in front of us. This is such a rarity as most outsource this. A complimentary tortilla chips with guac and salsa with Yelp check-in. How awesome is that. The quesadilla with pork was my favourite- hot melted cheese and umami flavours. Gonna have come back for more.

I was working in this area & needed a bite for dinner. Maizal had been on my radar for awhile & I was so glad to finally try it out! The location of this restaurant at Main St & 12th Ave is more of a 'passing by' location. The hustle & bustle of Main St is more towards the North & continues to get heavier the further South you go of this point. This 12th Ave & Main St intersection is extremely busy with car traffic as it is a major thoroughfare going all four ways. Now I really dig these very tasty delicious tacos. There's lots of side option hot sauces to burn your insides with - so pile onto your tacos to your hearts content! I ordered 3 authentic tacos - Pescado, Chipotle Chicken & Pastor. Darn it I forgot to add cheese to them but nonetheless - they were still delightful & went down nicely! The restaurant itself is spacious & comfortable - enjoyed the music playing while chowing down. Friendly customer service! The #3 Main St bus stops right outside - so come by ... eat tacos ... go shopping or hit up the many pubs on fabulous Main St.! Arriba!

It was our first time here for lunch The servers were so helpful guiding us through the menu The Flautas were my favourite The crispy tortillas and the smooth black beans were a perfect balance We were able to choose 1 filled with plantains and the other with chicken The Guacamole taco and the Plantain taco were pretty good too. The fresh made corn tortillas really made these stand out The sauce station were also a nice addition to the experience and I was glad they were not too spicy Will be back to try their other meat tacos

I was already planning to go to Sal Y Limon, but my bus took forever to come and I decided to go here instead. Another reason was that I saw photos from here for the Yelp event few days ago. Staff were helpful and friendly. I asked for permission to take photos and the staff was letting me to take some. I personally found the price to be expensive, but more of quality than quantity kind of thing. If you're big eater then YOU should order more items for sure! I had Barbacoa Torta sandwich ($8.50) and also had free Churro after Yelp checkin. Sandwich was yummy. Portion was smaller than what I thought. It was okay since I don't have a BIG appetite. Churro came out hot and fresh. It was crispy on the outside and inside was moist. Few pieces were actually stuck on my teeth afterwards, haha. I'll go back again someday! Thanks for Churro, Maizal!

Maizal is a quaint and casual mexican spot on the ever-so-popular main street. They just hit their 1 year anniversary! Congrats! :) My favourite items have to be the 2 desserts that they have on their menu. They make an absolutely delicious corn cake (I LOVE sweet corn) and churros with ice cream! They make everything from scratch -- even their corn tortillas, which is pretty rare in Vancouver! I also tried a horchata at Maizal for the first time, and O M G, I was blown away. I had to pace myself so I wouldn't finish it right away! I would definitely get it again. I also got to meet the owner, friendly good hearted guy!

carnitas, pastor, and fish taco, barbacoa taco, chicken chipotle taco, and chips and guac. Amazing housemade tortillas!

This place is absolutely AMAZING and kind of a hidden gem! Maizal is not only affordable but the portions are great, flavours are amazing and they make their tortillas in house! The fish taco is probably one of the best I've ever had, the chipotle mayo sauce is just perfect. The chips and guac were also so good and so affordable for such a big plate! I will definitely come again cause this place is just so good

Really tasty taco place around the Main street area. La Tacqueria and Tacofino have some serious competition. Parking is available on the side streets. The inside is modern but quite bare and empty. Basically it looks like a warehouse. Staff were friendly. The tacos took a bit longer to make than expected, but they do make them fresh. Pricing is a bit more than the competition at almost $4 per taco, but one has to pay the hipster premium. Pastor - pork with diced tomato and pineapple on top. Nice moist meat. The pineapple adds a nice zing. Carne Asada - steak with rice and beans, with guacamole on top. Quite tasty, though this one wouldn't rank too high on the adventurous scale. Pescado - piece of battered fish with some tangy hot sauce (hot mayonnaise?) on top and some diced tomatos. Also quite tasty, though one is basically eating fish and chips without the chips. They also have 6 types of hot sauce. Besides the 3 on the table (red, dark green, green), there are 3 more against the wall (red, dark red, green). Something for everyone, unless one is lame and doesn't like spicy. Overall the food was quite tasty, but the tacos (like the competition) are definitely on the small side. I will admit I left hungry and went straight for more food. Because of this I have trouble justifying 4.5 or 5 stars. In a nutshell, great food, but don't expect to fill up.

Wow the food here is outstanding. The burrito was filled with the perfect ratio of meat, rice, beans, and cheese. The cheese is to die for.

Our server was attentive and around when we needed something but never interrupting, and his recommendations ended up being some of our favourite dishes. The anchovy olives were a standout, super crispy, packed with flavour, and not overly fishy at all (great if you're a bit hesitant about anchovies). The mushroom toast was rich, savoury, and full of umami. Just a heads up not to let it sit too long since it softens the bread. The tuna tartare was fresh and well-balanced. Not my personal favourite served on toast, but still really enjoyable overall. The paella was excellent, perfectly cooked shrimp, tclams, and crispy pork belly chicharrón that added the best salty, fatty crunch. The roasted cabbage completely surprised me and was easily one of the best veggie dishes I've had in a while. I could have eaten a whole plate of it. We wrapped things up with churros and shared a pitcher of sangria. For three people, it came out to about $68 each before tip, which felt very fair for how much we ordered. Would definitely recommend.

The service was friendly and prompt but we were a bit disappointed by the food…read more We ordered the meat and cheese plate and they did say one of the options was fattier, but it was essentially a strip of fat (as you can see in the photo). As well, the manchego was so tiny it was like a shaving . The bone marrow amounted to about three teaspoons of marrow. We were so sad and dissatisfied. The patatas bravas was okay. Unfortunately we do not have a reason to return.
