We went to La Casita in Gastown after watching a Whitecaps game at BC Place. The restaurant was full and I think it was quite short staffed on the day that we went - there was basically just one person running around taking everyone's orders, bringing everyone's food, and settling the bills. As a result, everything took a bit of time, but we understood the circumstances and didn't find it an issue. When the drinks and food arrived, we enjoyed them. The portions were large and the food was good (but I'd say, not spectacular). For a similar price, I personally enjoyed some of the other Mexican restaurants in the Gastown area, although I don't think this should dissuade anyone from checking out La Casita if there's something on the menu that interests them!
We came here for dinner. I ordered Burritos and my partner ordered Chimichanga. And, my oh my, the food was so good. We loved it. Especially, their spicy sauce. They have different portion size options too. We ordered small and that came with sides rice, pico and beans. They have colorful ambience with ample seating area and bar area. It has street parking. Their service was good too. So, I definitely recommend coming here.
We went for an early dinner, had a reservation but didn't really need it at 5.30 as there were plenty of open tables. They have a few outdoor tables as well but it is a busy intersection and I am not sure loud it would get with rush hour traffic. The tables actually sit in the street. Seated immediately, great service and good food. I am used to chips and salsa as complimentary but that was not the case here. Salsas were $3 each with chips and guacamole was $5. The guacamole was good and chips were crispy. I had a red pepper, cheese and onion quesadilla that was small but filling. It came with a flauta (a potato filled, fried egg roll like dish) it was different but I liked it. It also came wirh beans and rice. Hubby had 3 cheeseburger tacos tgat he enjoyed on taco Tuesday. Small tacos but the 3 satisfied him. Nice setting close to Gastown.
This place went downhill since my last visit. The host was standing at the entrance but he was so awkward that we weren't sure if he worked there. His demeanor was standoffish but he led us to our table on the patio. I normally like their patio as it's spacious and decorated with flowers, but this time the experience wasn't great. Being in a bad area, there was a mentally ill man across the street who kept screaming out in pain. Also I watched the host awkwardly try to give free chips and salsa to everyone who walked by and he kept getting rejected so I said "I'll take a bag" and he replied "no cause you're already dining here." So I'm not as worthy because I'm a paying customer?! Got it, we won't be back. The food is not bad but the portions are small. We came for Taco Tuesday and each taco is $3.50. You need to order a lot of tacos to get full. We also ordered the enchiladas, which came with rice and beans. There's so many better Mexican restaurants in the area, I'd recommend going elsewhere.
Food is decent, drinks are meh, service is terrible We went here for a friend's birthday so large group aka 18% mandatory gratuity, but service falls way short of them deserving such an amount. Party was nice to catch up with friends, but the servers really need to step up their game to deserve this type of gratuity. We got the tortilla soup for something light since we weren't too hungry, and they were able to accommodate since it was in the regular menu but not stated in the large group menu. The soup was hearty and delicious. It hits the spot. But $16 for the soup (they didn't even ask us the size, we would've gone a smaller size) is quite a rip off. Large group menu has dishes that were too filling and frankly overpriced. Dishes were $20-32+ and consistently pricier than other Mexican restaurants I've been here. We also got a bulldog margarita. This one was good but we also sampled our friends' margaritas and I could taste a powder texture - feels like their flavoring is powder form not actual fruit. Cutting corners for a higher than average priced cocktail. Service here is the definition of what deserves a 0% tip. We specifically wanted a tamarind bulldog margarita and they put the order through. We got a regular iced margarita instead. I flagged it and the server kept gaslighting me saying the regular was what she ordered and they never said they could make it tamarind to begin with, until after 5 min of back and forth the server admitted and remade the drink. There's no need to be stubborn and try to fake being right and refuse to do something that was originally communicated. Especially if they do 18% mandatory gratuity. Then they just slapped the drink on the table without saying anything - very rude Second, it took 20+ min to get the check. Most of the meal we barely saw the servers. When they do, they only focused on taking more food orders. Sure they would do that to squeeze more money. But at least do the requests in order. There are many options in the area so I wouldn't recommend this, since food was decent but overpriced while putting up with some of the worst service.
Very friendly and attentive service , I ordered chicken enchiladas they remind me of home back in LA comfort food. I also ordered margaritas and guacamole and chips it hit the spot . The ambiance is very laid back for a Tuesday night in Vancouver we got seated right away .
Friendly staff and relaxed ambiance. I got the tacos and couldn't get enough of them. The flavour anf freshness was on par! I will be back again. Check em out if you are ever in Gastown.
I love this restaurant, I'm Mexican and it tastes very authentic, the staff is friendly and you can do meetings in the basement! Very good music and ambiance too, two thumbs up! The bathrooms are very clean too and I love the decoration

We ordered a vegetarian burrito and a vegetarian chimmichanga and they both were finger licking good! Perfect amount of heat and the Chipotle sauce was heavenly. An easy 5/5 for the food. The ambience is great as well with Mexican traditional theme. Service was good too. Food arrived quite quickly and then the hostess was kind enough to customize the dishes to our liking! Definitely we will be returning here. read more

We had a blast! Threw our pals birthday at La Casita and everyone invited totally loved it. The food was delicious, well prepared and hot as it arrived fast courtesy of our lovely servers - great gals. Amazing drinks & lots of room downstairs to rage it up and be together a little louder than upstairs which was also great fun. Very clean bathrooms! And I must say we will all be back sooner than later! MUCHOS GRACIAS AMIGOS! read more

If you get seated at the bar, I hope you're not ignored like me and my partner was. Came to eat and have a couple drinks, we wanted to experience Mexican food in Canada. Upon sitting down, my water glass was filled only once at my request. To be sitting at a tiny bar where there's a bartender making drinks constantly Nd you're seated directly in front if him, you'd think your water glass would be filled constantly if emptied. Nope! The food was mediocre. The "large" chimichanga is what I ordered. I can't imagine what the regular sized chimichanga would've looked like. It was flavorful but I couldn't help to think that the ingredients were like a puree. The insides were so very soft. No chunks of chicken but almost if it was puree. Best description I could give. Service is very slow. Again, had to ask for refills, had to ask for the check. If the food had taken any longer to be prepared, I would've asked time estimation for that too. read more

It was taco tuesday so my friends and I tried La Casita's taco deal. Each taco was $3.50 each and 16 oz. local draft were $4. I ordered a 16 oz. pale ale beer and 3 tacos. I got Carnita/braised pork, beef, and fish tacos. Our meal came with a complimentary plate of nachos with guacamole and spicy salsa dipping sauce. It wasn't bad at all, though the nachos were a bit stale. When the tacos arrived, they were a little smaller than I expected. But the taco fillings inside appeared to be well seasoned and well garnished with the meats. - fish taco was definitely fishy and sort of salty. The sauce that came with the fish didn't really add to the flavor. - beef taco was alright, it didn't really stand out in any way. It comes with mixed peppers and green onions. - carnita/braised pork shoulder taco was my favorite out of the 3 tacos i ordered. It was pretty tasty and well seasoned that upped the flavor. - pale ale beer went well with the meal. The place has typical mexican restaurant decor. It's a little darker than i'd like though. The walls are adorned with many typical mexican memorabilia. There were Luchador masks, interesting looking pinatas on the ceilings, tropical trees, and black and white mexican vintage tv shows. They played mariachi mexican folk music in the background. When it was time to ask for the bill, they were slow in getting back to us. We asked our server and it took them at least 10 minutes to get back to us. We had to ask again for it. It wasn't even that busy with only 3 or 4 tables being occupied at the time. Overall, the tacos were alright. Wish they were bigger. If I come again next time, I'll try their other tacos. They have a whopping 8 different tacos on the taco tuesday menu to choose from. Not bad if you're in the mood for some tacos on a tuesday! It's worth a try at least once. 3 out of 5 stars.-- read more

Went here for dinner and sat at the bar. Quick, friendly service and amazing food. I got the chicken quesadilla. The large margs were a fun +. Would definitely recommend if you're looking for great food while you're in Vancouver BC! They have an outdoor patio as well! read more

Honestly very good for Mexican food. I am from Los Angeles and have had various experiences with Mexican food and this restaurant does a pretty good job. The menu is limited but has some flavorful dishes. Their chicken flautas are really good and the green salsa is immaculate. read more
