Always the best food and service! Love the tortilla chicken soup and taquitos. Lunch or dinner and with the sun, the patio seating is wonderful. read more

We came here on a Saturday evening and managed to get a table, but reservations are recommended as they do fill up. The hostess wasn't the friendliest and we did wait a bit before being greeted by anyone, but our server was great. She was enthusiastic and even brought us extra napkins because some of the dishes we ordered were messy. After sitting down we were given complimentary chips and salsa. Every dish is made fresh to order. Tacos: comes on a plate of 3. Out of all 4 dishes we ordered, this was my least favourite. It was still tasty, but nothing special. Barbacoa: everyone at the table enjoyed this dish the most. The beef brisket was so tender. It came with 5 warm corn tortillas. Shrimp taquitos: nice and crispy corn tortillas, we liked the shrimp filling. I also really liked the guac on top, it tasted so fresh. Enchiladas de pollo: the cheese and sour cream made the dish really creamy and satisfying. We also enjoyed the rice & black beans that came with it. read more

Stopped in for a quick small bite after coming off the north shore mountains. The ambiance was great, very nicely decorated and comfortably upscale yet casual enough for ski clothes. I sat at the bar, service was attentive and I enjoyed my chat with the bartender. As I was just wanting something small I settled on the sopes and was pleased with my choice, well plated and nice flavour combinations. The jalapeño margarita was ok but I've had better. There were some interesting and seemingly tasty items on the menu I'd like to come back and try sometime. Will probably be back when in the area again. read more

Cantina Norte - Classic Sopes (GF, V) and jalapeño margarita - Mexican Near Me - North Vancouver, British Columbia

We ate at this restaurant a few years ago and it was a 4 out of 5. Yesterday we went for a happy hour snack and beer. We sat on the patio which was nice but it was dirty. Lots of leafs and spider webs that should be cleaned up everyday before letting people sit there. We had the chips and guacamole. Probably the best guacamole I have ever had. We also ordered some regular salsa which was terrible and tasted like Pace Picante out of a jar. It was runny and lacked flavor. After the great guacamole we expected a really good salsa. Mexican beer selection is limited which was also disappointing. read more

Friendly service and happy hour specials. Street parking is tight, but there is a free garage nearby. Recommend the margarita and chicken enchilada. read more

I recently had my first Mexican dining experience, and it was great. We were seated with a complimentary basket of tortilla chips and salsa, which was a great way to start. The chips are nicely salted and the salsa is fresh. We ordered the chimichanga, chili relleno, and tortilla soup, and I love the generous portion and bold flavors. The chimichanga is my favorite diah as the chicken filling was savory and hearty, complemented by the rice and beans on the side. The mango sauce was a good tangy addition, though it taste more like pineapple to me. The sourness works well with the overall flavor. Another dish I recommend getting is the tortilla soup. It was flavorful and had a good amount of spiciness. Its portion is also good for the price. The chili relleno fell a bit short for me although I do like the creaminess. I was expecting more smokiness with a hint of spice, which would elevate the dish more. Overall, I'd love to try more Mexican cuisine as I usually get burrito or taco. read more

Sat for a long while before our server came over. Cocktails were good and food was good but overall nothing amazing. The mushroom empanadas were my favorite thing that we tried. The veggie (cheese) chili rellenos was just okay, I've had better. Would go back since the location is great and menu has something for everyone; vegan, veggie, seafood, meat, gluten free, etc. read more

Cantina Norte is a Mexican restaurant that is tucked away in a quiet area of North Vancouver known as Edgemont Village. The restaurant has a beautifully designed interior and a lovely patio for outdoor dining. They offer free tortilla chips and salsa dip to tide you over until the food you order arrives. We often like to order Horchata when we go to Mexican restaurants; however, there was no Horchata on the menu at this restaurant. They do have some wonderful Margaritas though so we ordered a few virgin Margaritas and these were fantastic. Highly recommend the Mango Margarita at Cantina Norte! We were a party of 7 people and most of us were very impressed with the food here. There was a bit of a hiccup though with my order. I ordered a Vegan Wild Mushroom Quesadilla and put in a special request for "no cilantro" in my food. In spite of my request, my dish still came with cilantro in it. The kitchen left out any garnishes of cilantro that they might normally use for this dish but it seems that some of the fillings inside were premixed with cilantro in them. The restaurant apologized for this mistake and allowed me to order a new dish while still boxing up the Mushroom Quesadilla so that someone else in our party could take it home, free of charge. In place of the Mushroom Quesadilla I ordered some Vegetarian tacos. These were prepared very quickly by the kitchen and were excellent! Minus the cilantro, the food here was wonderful and the service was good too. We were very happy with the way that they handled the mistake with the cilantro. I would definitely recommend this restaurant, and would happily dine here again! Service: Good Parking: Free parking on the street read more

Came for lunch today and sat on the patio. Ordered tortilla soup and it was delicious! Also ordered the guava margarita which I highly recommend! Our server was super friendly and very helpful. Not my first time there, probably my 8th time! Food is great! i also recommend their nachos! They are like nothing you have had before! I've also ordered their beef barbacoa tacos in the past (5 times) and they are amazing! Will be back again! read more

Staff are lovely, drinks are fine, but the food is terrible. Bland and overly sweet, and cream cheese showing up in so many items. Shrimp was mushy. Not authentic or good. Disappointing. read more

I love that this place had complimentary chips and salsa. I feel like that's a rarity these days. The virgin jalapeño margarita was perfect! I couldn't stop sipping on it! And the ensalada de casa was perfectly crunchy and the barbacoa on top was super tender. I have to take away some points for the shrimp and papaya quesadilla. The dish smelled off as soon as it was placed in front of me. I was expecting prawns inside, but they were small salad shrimp. And the papaya was hard and almost raw, like slices of raw sweet potato. Wouldn't get that dish again. read more

Wow!!! Do not leave without trying the chili relleno! Wow, just wow! Between the unique sauce and amazing amount of cheese! I want to come back for seconds! Great location close to suspension bridge and love the friendly neighborhood! Staff was kind too! Patio seating was warm and fuzzy to the soul and skin! read more

Award winning Mexican food in North Vancouver's Edgemont Village. We had: Blue Taquitos -- chicken, green chillies and cheese, salsa verde rolled in crispy corn tortillas and served with salsa $15 Enchiladas De pollo -- Shredded chicken with jack cheese rolled in corn tortillas with Ancho Chile Sauce. Baked in the oven until bubbling hot and topped with sour cream $25 Chile Relleno -- roasted poblano Chile wrapped in a fluffy egg batter stuffed with chorizo and cheese $26 They serve free chips while you order. My favourite was the Taquitos. It was packed with flavour and perfectly crispy. I wasn't a fan of the enchilada chicken, it had too much onion and minimal cheese. The Chile relleno was delicious but nothing to rave about. read more

I so badly wanted this to be an easy 5 star spot. Walking up, it LOOKS like a 5 star spot. It's in a trendy spot, it shines from the outside as a vibrant nook, and when you walk in, it feels like a five star spot. The ambience is excellent. No reservation on a weekend = no chance you'll get in. It's wildly busy. Free chips and salsa while you wait. Ultimately, the food was just okay. Just...good not great. Not bursting with flavour, not too big or too little a portion, nothing standing out. It is above average but not excellent. For $30/dish Mexican food, it is a higher bar. I recommend this spot nevertheless and a wonderful spot to have a night out. read more

Good food bad service...server is rude. Audacity to ask for a tip for a bas service. Hope they can improve the servers manners

We liked this restaurant for almost everything especially the service and shrimp tacos. The queso fundido is unfortunately mostly a cream cheese blend with real queso on top so not ideal. The drinks were great. It was valentines night and overall a nice dinner. read more

Pretty decent place. We had items from the brunch menu. I had pato carnitas. It was pretty delish and they put in nachos in the hash too for some nice crunch texture. The house salad was great too. I love the brunch theme and the egg was perfect. Great service by the way! read more

This is NOT good Mexican food. The salsa is bottled salsa from the grocery store next door. Same with the chips. No true Mexican restaurant puts that on the table! Food is quite tasteless. Such a disappointment because the original Cafe Norte was excellent. read more

Stopped in for lunch and glad I did. I had the shrimp/papaya quesadilla. Came with a side salad. Gary was awesome along w/the rest of the staff. Do yourself a favor and sit outside. Fantastic atmosphere and prices! Highly recommend. read more

Not as comfortable as the original. The food was very salty, the free chips and salsa were the highlight part of our meal. Our waitress took our orders and wasn't seen again until it was time for the bill and we were all out of water because of the salt levels. It was not busy but the staff we encountered were not well-trained servers, just winging it - a bit too amateur for $30/entrees imho. I found the space very loud, too many hard surfaces like glass and concrete cause poor acoustics. Don't intend to return. read more

Friendly staff but a bit slow so if you're in a rush I don't recommend. Some parking spaces right outside but some street parkings further down too. Drivers around that area can be rude so be careful. Restaurant is quite big and at the corner so easy to spot. A few items to choose from for food and drinks. Tasty food and decent portion. Salad was a big smaller than I thought but it was still delicious. Reasonable prices and nice decorations. Great time but wouldn't usually travel all the way just for it, but if I was around the area I'd go again. read more

Cantina Norte - Chips - Mexican Near Me - North Vancouver, British Columbia

Found one of the good mexican restaurants in town. Yes it is a little bit expensive and gladly we ate during happy hour woohoo! Got free chips and salsa for your starter and the tortillas are homemade and they were super good. Because of that we were gladly to ger the nachos and damnn super good. The chorizo expected to be crushed and cooked instead of just be like sausage but still it was good. The shrimp taquitos is the star of the show! Never had something as good as this one you should totally get it! The churros are good too but just a little bit overcooked. It should be done 10 seconds faster so it would not be too hard nor too soft. Overall, it was a good experience and would love to come back again in the future. Recommended! Cheers! read more

Lunch at Cantina Norte today. Excellent meals presented very well and outstanding flavors. Really savory salsa, made right there. Service was a bit spotty but definitely not a deal breaker. Beautiful ambience, horribly bland food. The same canned enchilada sauce was mixed in with the side of rice and my main entree. My partners' entree...which was different than mine..had the same canned sauce poured over. This place is too pricey to serve food of this caliber. read more

Was visiting Vancouver and stumbled upon this place. Glad we did because it was excellent. We live in Southern California so have been to about a million Mexican (or Mexican American) places around California or down in Baja at all price points. Our meals at Cantina Norte were excellent. The duck with mole was unlike any mole sauce I'd had before and worked so well off the duck. We also tried the pork pabil, barbacoa and chicken enchiladas and all we delicious. Our waitress was great. Highly recommend this place. read more

Tortilla soup is the best. Try the shrimp taquitos as well. Always great food and service!

Dropped in for Dineout Vancouver to try it out. Impressed and would go back if I'm in North Van. Food and drink: duck tostada appetizer was my favourite. Barbacoa was quite nice. Banana cream pie was tasty. They actually had a decent variety of craft beer for a restaurant (four taps: 33B, Beere, Wildeye, Bridge). Service and atmosphere: good service, attentive and friendly. Looks quite new, nice decor and a nice patio area that will be great for the summer. Overall: not mind blowing by any stretch of the imagination, but a good, solid place to check out any time I'm craving Mexican in North Van. read more

Atypical Mexican restaurant cuisine. Flavors of enchiladas n tortilla soup are different, smokier, darker. Kale salad very healthful & tasty in a light dressing but a little too much roughage for ordinary diner. Ambience very lovely n upscale. Staff person very sweet. read more

I ordered the Chicken Enchiladas. They were covered in a weird brown sauce that you don't find on enchiladas in Mexico. My eagle vision instantly spotted a black hair in the rice. I didn't call the waitress over to report it because she was new and already proving herself to be a major annoyance. She turned out to be one of those very annoying "helicopter" servers. Always walking by, making an effort to get your attention, and asking you questions in mid-mouthful when you can't answer anyway! She made it impossible to relax and enjoy my meal because she was always asking me questions. I gave her a small tip, which she didn't deserve. She is self-centred and rude, rude, rude. When are servers going to learn that they are there to serve not try to be the centre of attention? In a good quality restaurant, servers will serve WITHOUT INTERRUPTING CUSTOMERS. They serve silently and invisibly. I won't ever go back to that overpriced, amateur operation, and I won't recommend it to anyone. read more
