Stopped by on a hot Tuesday evening. I have never been here before, but was treated like royalty. The staff were wonderful, lots of good recommendations. We sat out on the back patio, perfect for being away from the street, it was cool and comfortable. The food was spectacular, loved their tortas and fish tacos. My husband ordered a salted beer that was on tap, perfect for a warm day. This is going to be my new favourite place for any picnic items, everything was hot and fresh. Densely packed goodness. Their burritos and tortas are jam-packed with stuff. The burritos rival the ones they serve at Sal Y Limon. But, rather than using all cabbage, I thought I detected some lettuce too. The burritos are so dense that I could only eat half in one sitting. The next day, it still tasted great, although it was a bit soggy by then. There seemed to be much more meat than something equivalent at Sal Y Limon. Prices are solid bargains for what you get. I ordered takeout, and I was surprised that there wasn't any salsa or hot sauce in the bag when I got home. Was this omission accidental? I'll have to go back and ask about it next time. However, it isn't likely that they offer as many sauce choices as Sal Y Limon. A great place for Mexican, if you can't make it to Sal Y Limon. read more

Amazing Mexican food! Came here on a Wednesday night and it was not too busy. We ordered 4 tacos ($12)- with 2 fillings, got beans and cheese & asada beef, got the Chorizo Burrito ($11.50) and the Pollo Puerco (Chicken and Chorizo) Tortas ($12.50). We got the food very quickly and everything was AMAZING! The burrito was by far my favourite- there was rice, salsa, green cabbage, beans and the chorizo - it was super juicy and tasty! The tacos were also super bomb, we added the salsa on the side and it definitely brought me back to the tacos that I ate in Mexico. Finally, the Tortas was huge and super filling! One downside about the Tortas was that there are jalapeno slices within, and I unfortunately bit down into a jalapeno in my bite, and I had immediately teared up. I then learned my lesson and took out all of the slices and then enjoyed my Tortas. Loved this place, and definitely will return quite soon! This is my favourite mexican restaurant in this city. Not many places offer this many varieties of Tortas. My boyfriends family (who is from mexico) came to visit Vancouver and brought them to try. As they are also fellow Mexican Restaurant owners back in Winnipeg, they give this place 8/10. Instead of using lettuce, like the traditional tortas, this place uses cabbage which is the reason why this wasn't a full 10/10. Super underrated spot to check out. I'd say this place is pretty authentic from the food to the people. A lot of Spanish could be heard. It's quite small however not at all cozy would be my only complaint. They need to fix the door so that it shuts closed especially this time of year (Jan 2020). It would let the cold air in. One the employees would shut then someone came in and then my guest closed it then someone else would come in so it was pretty chilly in there. The food however was great & the employee was very friendly. It seemed like he took the time to really know his customers. Many people seemed like regulars for the half hour that we were there. The six tacos we order came to just over $20. We both could have ate more though however we were just too tired. The guacamole was excellent & the mango hot sauce was something I've never had before. The meat was burned, dry and small, and the chips was just burned. 2 months ago I ordered exactly the same, and quality was 1 of 5. I didn't review it but I call them. I am in love with the huaraches! We ordered the Crispy Shrimp and Mole Roja. Getting food from a delivery service will never be the same as dining in, but I was impressed with how fluffy and tender the corn cakes were. The flavors are so complex, the Mole Rojas especially! Here's what you need to know. I live in Los Angeles, the land of plenty when it comes to tacos, tortas, and the like. I have returned to Vancouver during this very fraught time and needed something comforting. I know there are some decent taco spots in Vancouver but I've had yet to find any real contenders to LA (if you have spots please respond to this and let me know where) I've been to Las Tortas three times in the last week and a half. I never go anywhere on repeat so already you can take that as a sign of my adoration. My first order was the Queso Loco Torta. I have an online sandwich making gameshow so I take my sandwiches VERY seriously. The bread. Wow. Soft. Delicous and did not give out at any point. They also let me add their incredible pastor to my sandwich. It was ready fast and it travelled well. These are all huge pluses. The use of cabbage!!! I am a cabbage lover and they are so on point with their construction. I'm also a chef and constant eater so throuought the pandemic - if I actually end up ordering out, it's rare. So again, I'm telling you in my most vulnerable way... I'm addicted. Trip 2: Crispy shrimp burrito. Damn delicious. DELICOUS. I'm not a bean person. They use black beans and either sprinkle fairy dust in it or crack. Either way I'm fine with it and now consider myself a Las Tortas fan girl. The use of cabbage again - perfection. The crispy shrimp were and even remained crispy the next day when I finished off the burrito. It was huge and I needed to stop 3/4 of the way through because I was full though my mouth did not want to stop. My sister snuck some and thought it was amazing too. She lives so close by and had never tried it. I made a convert! Trip 3 RED ENCHILADAS. I had a deep craving and am really particular about my enchiladas. So here's the thing - I have a very specific ranchero sauce that I crave. When I got back to my sisters with them I was a bit disappointed to see the sauce was different... a homemade version that I wasn't sure was going to satisfy my craving. I thought the buck had finally stopped and potentially I would stick to other items I want to try. I WAS WRONG! it was so goooooood! It was just really perfectly delicious. I need to try their mole. it's calling to me. So I will be going back to try that and the million other things on their menu. SUPPORT LAS TORTAS. ps. Lovely spot on Main doing a very brisk takeaway business. Their good is so yummy and fresh made on site. The fellow working there was very kind and good comes out fast. My friend had the tortilla soup and she loved it. I loved my meal but didn't love the super thick corn thing it was served on (soggy and weird). But the lamb and toppings were fantastic. I had dined in for their tortas which I quite enjoyed, but tonight I ordered on DoorDash and it was horrible. The wet burrito is described as drowned in salsa, guacamole, sour cream, and cheese. When it arrived THERE WAS NO GUACAMOLE, SOUR CREAM, OR CHEESE. The Chile relleno is advertised as being served with a side salad and sour cream, both of which were missing. First time having a Mexican Torta and boy, am I glad I tried it here. Expecting to walk into a run down shop run by a bunch of 'dudes', I was thrown off by the simple and clean decor, as well as the polite staff. I ordered a Cubana and although it looked small when served, it was packed both in terms of quantity of fresh quality ingredients, and flavor. I ordered the guacamole on the side and together, I was thoroughly impressed with how all the flavors complimented each other. Not sure what they put in the guacamole but it's addictive! This has definitely been one of the best sandwiches I've had in a long time. Four stars only as I have to agree with others in that it is on the pricier side. I really love the authentic flavors in the sandwiches in Las Tortas. I've eaten there a few times and never once been disappointed by the the quality and taste. The prices are a little high yes, but when you consider how filling they are and how lengthy some of the prep must be (pickled onions, slow roasted meats) it's really not that bad. I think people get a little too hung up on the cost - when I think about how much a foot long costs at Subway it's really not that much more to have a much more excellent sandwich experience. I was pretty stoked to try something new, and I don't know if it has been my subconscious telling me that Cinco de Mayo is coming, but I have had a real boner for Mexican food lately, so I dragged the BF here in the pissing rain to get me some sexy-mexi. As I came in, I fell in love with the Mexican pop culture paintings on the walls, so I snuck in some photos since the cashier was busy on the phone, and the food prep girl was standing next to her eating a sandwich?? wtf??? Sure she put some gloves on before throwing together my torta, but it's kinda weird when the girl who is making your food is standing at the register chowing down. At least you know if the staff are eating there, the food is safe right? Yikes. I ordered the vegetariana tortie and a brownie, cuz I had a craving for something sweet, and the giant zit on my forehead today is the proof that makes me feel pretty guilty about indulging. Anyways, I handed the cashier my bag with the appropriate items ticked off, and I had barely sat down when my name was called. I figured since the tortie had jalapenos on it, that it would have a bit of a kick to it, but it was kind of bland. I was wondering where the heat was in this Mexican joint? Where the heck was Frank's Red Hot... I put that shit on everything! It also felt like I had more bun than veggies, and as much as I like big buns, and I cannot lie... I really felt like I was eating filler. The brownie was okay, it was the perfect amount of sweet, and had added spice to it, which complimented the dark chocolate. I guess I was hoping for a brownie that was a bit more homemade though and not a pre-cut-previously frozen one. Las Tortas was not everything I was hoping it would be, but it's also not the worst thing I have ever put in my mouth....um... yea..... Wow , when my carne asada with cheese came I was shocked at how large the sandwich was. A pretty good torta sandwich, but bread tasted right on the edge of fresh and a bit old. Came back on another late weekend afternoon, this time I had the special-the Hawaiiana, with chips & salsa, and acgua. The honeydew acgua was yummy, very refreshing, perfect on a hot afternoon. I wish they would strain it or something, so that the drink is smoother. My tortas was good, ham, cheese, and a large slice of pineapple, with all the fixins inside a fresh bun. The chips were good in that they were homemade, and crispy. The salsa seemed a bit watered down though. It needed a little more flavour to it. It's more like 3.5 for me. The sandwich I had was grilled chicken with lime, which was amazing for me. The guacamole and the beans, combined with a bit of green cabbage just worked really well with the juicy chicken bits. The bread that put everything together topped it off, with its chewy goodness. The potato chips that went with this sandwich were pretty good, other than the fact that the bigger chips were a bit soggy in the middle, while others were crunchy. Home made though, so I can't complain too much! My boyfriend had the steak sandwich that was topped with salsa and the tortilla soup. The soup was simple and delicious, with a hint of cilantro that can be tasted throughout each spoonful. However, the salsa was extremely salty. I don't know if it was just today's batch that was salty, but either way, the salsa just wasn't enjoyable. The place could be a lot cleaner too...there was a couple who left earlier and their table remained uncleared the entire time we were eating. I think you're supposed to throw out the garbage yourself but still...and the tables looked like they needed a wipe. Another thing that bothered both of us was their use in dishwares. Maybe it's because they have more ppl getting take-outs, but they serve food on disposable dishes and tupperwares, which seemed wasteful. Lastly, I thought the person (Foodie F), who wrote the review a day ago, was joking when they said they saw a rat trap and a rat poo in the bathroom...but alas, it's true! After reading it, I urged my bf to go check it out, and when he came out, he confirmed it. I would have loved to resolved the issue, but the restaurant wasn't even answering their phone. What can I say, luckily I had some of my own salsa in the fridge I could use. But really not impressed. Las Tortas is amazingly authentic Mexican eatery. The fish torta is so good I couldn't stop thinking about it for days! The bun is perfectly crisp on the outside and soft on the inside. The inside is stuffed with yummy goodness with cabbage, picked onions, jalapeños, guacamole, protein of choice and the magical sauce! The service was quick and super friendly. We had our tortas packed to go with the intention of eating half here and taking the rest on the road. When the owner found out we wanted to eat some of it in, he kindly brought us plates. The original model was unique for the neighbourhood: fill out an order form for an amazing torta sandwich. Back in the day the service as authentic and excellent,.. but now, maybe just authentic. I was ignored this last time and not only my order but the order of the guy ahead of us,. messed up. I don't like being ignored when someone is 2 feet from my face. We had tacos and they tasted ok, but were tiny. I used to come here all the time, then they would always mess up my order, the burritos were inconsistent, fillings would be missing or they would smother it with cheese and I don't eat cheese. So I complained a few times, didn't change so I stopped going for about 2 years. I decided to give them a second chance,burritos were a mess, all my guac was in a huge glump at the centre, the chicken at the bottom, it was rolled the wrong way, my wife got pork instead of chicken, so we shared my rolled the wrong way burrito and viowed we would never eat there again. But our daughter loved her Burrito which was great. So I went back to get my daughter a burrito, bean cheese and rice, that is all, I told the lady twice, no salsa, no anything just those 3 things. She said ok. When I got home it was half cabbage and tomatoes..My daughter was upset and she wouldn't eat it.. I called and the excuse was- "sorry she doesn't speak English". I do not understand why someone with poor English is taking orders?? The usual guy who works there didn't even think about it, he took my $11 for a bean cheese and rice burrito plus $2 tip just fine.. I'm totally done with this place, way too many mistakes, almost every single order. You have decent food when you actually take the time to get the order correct but that is rare. I walked in here randomly and boy am I glad that I did! The inside is not very big, with a couple of tables lined along the wall and a counter where you order from. I am guessing this is more of a take out place to serve the lunch crowds that work nearby. Las Tortas specializes in Mexican Sandwiches so I had to order me of those- there were so many to choose from but I ended up picking the chorizo and cheese sandwich. This came with a drink- either lemonade or horchata. I picked the lemonade and it was very light and refreshing- not too sweet or too tart, it was just right. I was very impressed with my sandwich. The bread was nice and softy and perfectly toasted and it had a layer of guacamole, lettuce, tomatoes, refried beans, mayo, chorizo, cheese, and jalapeño peppers. Super delicious soft shell fish tacos. Fresh, fast, delicious. I'm a maniac for their salsas which are the best I've had outside Texas or California though they only have two kinds. The chips are always fresh and super crispy, the tortas are hungryman size. While I'm grateful there is never a line out the door when I come here, I don't get it. So by default, I tend to order fish tacos at any Mexican restaurant to see where they stand to LA fish taco standards. This is probably unfair considering this place specialises in torta sandwiches. But screw it. You aren't reading this because user based reviews were neutral in opinion, anyway. I'm happy to report that their soft tortilla fish taco was actually very well made and very delicious. Fish was a heavily seasoned fish taco (not fried). Not sure if this is a regular thing, but Thursday there was a 4 tacos for $10 deal. I'd say this was a pretty good deal except fish was +$2. So now you're running at least $12. There was of course, other filling options. But obviously fish tacos are the best. I'd give this place 3 stars if it weren't for the fact it was so tasty. Overall the location is small and on the pricier end for tacos. But I'd justify coming back here to try other items on their menu. And frankly, why are all taco places in Vancouver so expensive?....there is an epidemic taco consumer price gouge. I would come back (to try other menu items). read more

Yesterday, having hit the lunch rush, the tiny joint was packed. We waited in line but didn't mind because it gave us time to oggle the menu and check off our cravings on the order form. My normally indecisive self had plenty of time to choose my final answer before the checkout. Pretty good system if you ask me. Having never had a tortas before I didn't know what to expect, but seeing all that shredded meat cooking on the grills had me convinced I was in the right place. A t$10 the sandwich seemed steep for a mom m' pop lunch but holy smokes, was that sammy huge! I ate the first hot, piping layered half (I don't usually eat bread but this was worth it) and saved the other half for later. This place blew my damn mind. I like the bag system for ordering your sandwich and I also really like that they have a cornbread kind of thing (gluten-free?) option. It's not on the menu, but it's what I had in the restaurant, I'm not sure if it may have been a special or not. I have only lived in Vancouver for 4 months and I have eaten here 5 times! I have loved Mexican food in Texas, San Francisco and Florida but I had never had a Mexican sandwich until coming here. I have tried many of their sandwiches and I always enjoy them - the chicken, the pork, fish. Sometimes they make a paella and it's quite tasty too. I like their horchata and the other drinks they offer, including that tamarind soda. But the real standout for me is their guacamole. I'm a guacamole girl and their guac definitely hits the spot. I'm from Mexico and I really liked this place. It is as authentic as you can get it when some many ingredients here are expensive and not as available as they're in Mexico. I've been there a few times and I always leave happy. I'm disappointed they don't open on Sundays anymore, although I guess this is a good sign...if they feel like they can close on Sundays, that means the business is doing well, which makes me happy! read more
