panaderia latin bakery
Carolyn L.

My South American friends love the food here, particularly the empanadas and baked goods. I finally got to try the stuff here. It was closed the last time I came here. Due to Covid-19, the other door was closed and there was no dining area. One side of the store was the non perishable products such as snacks and condiments. I saw the Mexican spice Tajin here. There were a couple of freezers holding perishable frozen items. The main door is where you can get the baked stuff including cakes and sandwiches and empanadas. I bought two cake slices. One was the tuxedo truffle and I had no idea what the other was. I thought it was flan but it did not taste like it. Very rich and heavy. I did not really like the tuxedo truffle either. The cake part was a bit dry and the chocolate was not the nice type (but I am a chocolate snob). Costco tuxedo cake is way better! The chicken empanada was cold so I had to heat it up in the oven at home. Not sure why they did not give me the one which was already heated up. The chicken filling was delicious but the crust was hard and a bit dry. It could be due to me leaving it in oven for too long. If you like South American food, come here to get them soon. I saw a sign outside the block that 3 lots (this and also includes sushi Taku) were up for sale and development.

Great selection of desserts!

Panaderia has become one of my go-to lunch spots for something quick to collect and enjoy at home. The usually order is composed of empanadas and a sweet to share. What can I say, all of their empanadas are golden crispy with a not to flakey crust and filled on the inside with flavour. Hands down, the espinaca/spinach is my favorite. Gotta should out to their sweets! Because this bakery has the cutest window stuffed with yummy baked goodies. The chilenitos was a lovely meringue and dulce de leche pastry, they have chocolate sweets, berry good pastries and no shortage of choices.

I came for the empanadas, but I stayed for the pastels. Panaderia is a little slice of food heaven. On one side you have a mini supermarket with Latin spices, ingredients, and treats, and then on the other side you have the bakery where you can order a variety of Latin goods to go. The empanadas are a must! I recommend both the chicken and the beef. If you aren't a meat eater, the spinach and cheese one is also divine. The empanada crust is buttery, flaky, and melts right in your mouth, which I love. The real treat for me though is the Brazilian pastels, which is basically a rectangular shaped fried pastry stuffed with meats and cheeses. It is heavenly. My arteries may not thank me, but my taste buds sure do. This is a family owned business and all the staff are extremely friendly and helpful. If I'm looking to satisfy my empanada and pastels craving, I head over to Panaderia! #SupportLocal

Their Chacarero sandwich

I've been meaning to try their Chacarero for awhile and boy I wasn't disappointed. While I got a square shaped take out container for $11.50 I was pleasantly surprised to open it stuffed to the brim with the sandwich and fixins. The lady behind the counter mentioned that they make the meat only when it's ordered so it takes a little longer (10 mins or so) but it was worth the wait. Nice sweetened bun, good tomatoes, excellent steak and green beans. I could only eat half the sandwich and saved the rest for later. It brought back some nice memories of a South American adventure long ago. They take credit card and you can also shop in their little supermarket stocked with non-local goodies while you wait.

My first time Chilean sandwich, Churrasco. I loved the thin sliced beef and huge amount of avocado. A little bit dried special bread absorbs the juice and I enjoyed till last bite. Good volume too! I wished they had explanation of each sandwich on board. I needed to show the attached graphic.

Highly recommend stopping by here for a meal! The food here is awesome, the staff are great and the prices are very reasonable. There's so many pastries and treats, it's hard to pick which one to try! We will definitely be back to try more.

Pricey, but worth it lol $5

Yes!!! Caramel all the way! Had an umpteenth meeting with that awesome Sushi Taku next door, strolled in, this cylinder-shaped, white sugar powdered caught my attention, similar to Anna's walnut neopolitan. Flakey inside, as per pic and yummy for sure. Liked how every bite came with caramel! Friendly service, super patient with all my questions inside a Latin bakery. Sitting area too.

WHAAAA???? A CHILEAN BAKERY IN VANCOUVER???? SHUT THE FRONT DOOR!!!... was my reaction when I found out about Panaderia Latina Bakery. Being a Chilena myself (and having grown up on traditional Chilean cooking), I tend to have some pretty high standards when it comes to the cuisine, but ya know what? All of these standards have been met at Panaderia Latina Bakery (Yaaaaaayyy!). So what do I recommend to a first time go-er or 'gringo'? 1) Chacarero - Made to order, this big sandwich consists of homemade bread, a thin slice of steak, tomato, green beans and mayo. It's a sloppy taste of heaven. 2) The Empanada de pino (a meat empanada). This is the most traditional Chilean dish you can have. I could go into a long description about what's in it and what makes it amazing, but I'll save you the time and say - just go get one. It's the bees knees, n'kay? **FACT: Any good Chileno/Chilena will tell you that his/her mother makes THE BEST empanadas. The truth is, they're all wrong. MY mamá makes the best empanadas. That is all... ;D** 3) If you have a sweet tooth, good news! There's a fantastic selection of Chilean desserts, all oozing manjar (our version of caramel). YUM! One more tip for ya. When you go to Panaderia Latina Bakery, make sure you wear your stretchy pants. Your belly's gonna get fuuuuuuull. **FUN FACT** Panaderia Latina Bakery means Bakery Latina Bakery. Panaderia = Bakery (en Español). Ha!

First time having Latin pastries, and they were pretty good, especially if u love sweets. I like that they have different baked goods with dulche de leche, chocolate and other fruit flavours. There are also other Latin American products in the store too

Needed to get take-out in the area and saw Marc D.'s review for the chacarero sandwich. Tried it and loved it! Thanks Marc! Will return as they have a lot of Latino products (Mexican, Chilean, Peruvian), and the sweets and pastries look divine!

We ordered the fried tripe tacos, beef tongue tacos and cheese pupusa tonight and found the tripe taco to be the best choice; it had a nice flavour and texture to it, unlike the other things we ordered. The green sauce that came with the tacos were lacking something to it and the pupusa sauce was just disappointing- it felt like water pretending to be a sauce. The beef tongue tacos were ok: full of meat but lacking flavour. The pupusa was just sad as it was cold and flimsy. Unfortunately, I wouldn't recommend.

There is no AC here but they do take credit card. We ordered an order for salsa and chips with a side of guacamole. The small guacamole costs almost $6. However, the chips is the kind of chips I have been searching for since my Los Cabos trip. We also ordered a pork soup. The pork soup is amazing. The meat is very tender and if you add the chips, lettuce and lime that comes with the soup, it brings the soup to the next level. The tacos doesn't come with any salsas but it is similar to the ones I had at the Los Cabos resort. We also ordered a dinner set. The food is quite good. I don't mind going back on a cool day but I do find that their food is on the more expensive side based on the portion and price of the food.

We tried: Happy hour Cubano - I appreciated it that it was not greasy, and wasn't a goopy mess of mayo like other ones I've had. I think I would like a bit more meat in it, but overall it was good. Happy hour burger - it was actually pretty good. The bun was fresh, the veggies crisp, and the patty was a good smash burger with nice flavour. If I were ordering it again, I would ask for an extra patty, as the meat gets a bit lost with everything in the burger. Happy hour chips & salsa - we added guacamole to our order. The salsa was very bland. We both doused each chip we ate with the very mild hot sauce they brought to the table. The chips were good. Happy hour beers - both the house lime lager and ale were tasty. The Cuban old fashioned - my friend enjoyed her drink. I thought it was too sweet. Santa Clara sling - it was good, but needed more acidity and was sweet. Classic pineapple daiquiri - good but needed more lime. I appreciated that while it wasn't on the menu, they made it for me and only charged me $10 during happy hour! Guava margarita slush - it was actually pretty good but a bit too sweet for us. We fixed that by adding a couple of extra shots of tequila to it. The place got very busy by 5:30pm, and the atmosphere was lively and staff were great. I think my main quibble is that the drinks and food menu seems to think it's mostly a Mexican restaurant, which is why I'm only giving it 3 stars.

I also ordered the Hibiscus Aguas Frescas and my friend got the Horchata. The birria was massive and filled with a ton of meat but didn't have much flavour so had to pour some hot sauce in order to get some flavour. There was enough meat to easily make 2 tacos. The nopal was nice but didn't have much taste and was slightly slightly slimy. Have always wanted to try cactus so this wasn't half bad. The stand out for me was the Pescado as it was crispy and has great sauce and flavour. The Cauliflower taco was also solid. For 4 Happy Hour tacos, happy Hour chips, guacamole, & salsa plus two drinks I paid around $50 including tax and tips. Good service and the restaurant was getting busy on a Thursday night with locals. Definitely worth checking out this authentic establishment, especially with Sal y Lemon that relocated up South on Fraser Street.
