Great lunch deal alert Olivo offers daily weekday lunch specials It's a cold day so the Birria Ramen Friday lunch special is perfect ($11.50) The ramen noodles (instant noodles) with the homemade Birria soup and shredded beef is delicious The meal comes with a side of hot sauce but doesn't come with the mini taco unless you order the original for $18.50 The burrito bowl with Beef was also pretty tasty Nice area to sit inside or outside Staff were friendly and brought out the food quickly Would come back to try their special espresso lattes drinks made with Pallet Coffee
Came here on a Sunday and was the only group seated, it's in a more secluded backroad off of Marine -- so I imagine the weekdays are busier with nearby businesses/truckers. The food was very great, delicious and filling. Portions were large, I should've shared! The coffee was alright, we tried the Nutella latte and for $8 - it wasn't worth the cost, compared to the food.
Tucked away in an industrial area, Olivo cafe offers authentic Mexican food that is perfect for brunch and lunches. This time we ordered the chilliquiles and it was massive! Tortilla chips covered in sauce, eggs, guacamole, beans, a choice of meat... it was more than I could handle! This was a delicious concoction that is savoury and slightly salty - would recommend grabbing this the next time you're in the area.
A hidden gem! Such a nice spacious cafe with delicious food and drinks. I came on a Tuesday and there was a deal for tacos. I got the birria taco and carnitas taco - both were absolutely delicious, crispy and juicy. Loved the consome and hot sauce. Also got a dirty matcha - it was nice and strong. Service was friendly and efficient.
We recently visited OLIVO CAFE. It is located in an industrial complex in South Burnaby near the River District. Finding it might be a challenge -- keep an eye out for the CAFE signage, but you'll need to get up close to spot the OLIVO CAFE name. We started with their 4 TACOS. From chicken to pork carnitas, beef, and fish, each taco was generously filled and bursting with flavour. The portions were so generous that we were almost half full just from these alone. Our top picks were the pork carnitas and fish tacos, offering a delightful spice level and bold flavours. We also tried the Chorizo Eggs Benedict -- three poached eggs on English muffins topped with hollandaise sauce, served with potato tots and coleslaw. The combination of flavours and textures in this dish was simply delicious. Overall, OLIVO CAFE is a must-visit for affordable cafe-style eats with a Mexican twist. The vibrant decor featuring local artists' works adds to the cozy ambiance. Food: 4/5 Should Try! Service: 4/5 Kids: 4/5 Yay! Presentation: 2/5 Parking: 2/5 Parking lot can be busy depending on the time. Tips: * is a cafeteria-style setup: order and pay upfront at the cashier. * has spicy sauce available on the counter. * has a self-serve water station available. offers a section selling products from local designers. * has a Dog-friendly patio. Would I Return: Yes
I've been so many times now! The brunch is delicious. I had the molletes. The pasta dishes are spicy and huge portions! The tots are always crispy, and the tacos and quesadilla are so juicy and good. My next dish to try will be the brirra ramen! Love this spot and how they have local art, dog friendly patio. I'm a huge fan!
Secret hidden Mexican style restaurant and cafe by Boundary and Marine. It's seriously hidden. Drove past it a few times looking for it. Only indicator was a sandwich board by the road. Parking is available in front. It is inside a business park after all. Ambience is pretty nice. Thanks to the open garage door and the outdoor theme, it really does feel like one is in some outdoor garden by the coast. Staff were friendly and helpful. As of the time of writing, there is a daily special for each weekday. I had their fish burrito bowl. A bit small, but can't complain for the price. Grilled fish was nice and fresh. Bottom of the bowl has rice and purple beans. I also had their pork quesadilla. Nice and tasty. Not too greasy either. Can't complain. This place also has Mexican pop (Jarritos), if one wants to try. Lastly, looks like this place also has a food truck (Tacosaurus). Keep an eye out if you're out and about. Definitely will be back to try some more goodies. Recommended.
My Mexican coworker introduced this cafe, especially about Birria dish. In Mexico, they use goat meat but here beef. As I prefer beef, it was ok for me. The meat was tender and juicy. It's stewed beef like barbaccoa but I felt more complicated or more flavor in it. Especially smokey flavour. The dipping sauce came along and it was fatty. Normally I don't use much hot sauce but finished everything even lime. Birria taco is slightly expensive than others but as it comes with the dipping sauce, it makes sense. My tummy was very satisfied with the quality and volume.
Who knew tucked right in the industrial area of Burnaby is this restaurant that not only serves Mexican food but Mexican style breakfast dishes as well!! Olivio Cafe is a clear definition of hidden gem!! In our visit we ordered the Birria Taco + Chicken Enchiladas + Cafe Mocha + Dirty Matcha. Birria tacos is one of my favourite Mexican dishes and they nailed it here with generous amount of beef in the tacos and the perfect birria beef consomme that is not overly salty like many places I've tried. The Enchiladas had just the right amount of sauce that coated each tortilla nicely leaving you ever so satisfied in every bite! But what surprised me the most was not only do they serve amazing dishes but their drinks are just as equally tasty! Both espresso drinks had solid coffee flavour with each unique flavour still brought out! This will be a very easy choice when I'm in the area craving some Mexican eats or a solid pick me up!
Love this relaxed quaint cafe in the midst of an industrial area. Been here a few times over the last year and have never been disappointed. A nice mix of traditional western brunch options with Mexican fare. Also love this place because it's family friendly. I'm able to bring my 18mo old niece here and let her roam around if she needs without feeling too bad. It's comfortable and eclectic. Cafe style where you order at the counter and then find yourself a table (not full service). I recommend anything off their menu!
Found my way to this cozy little cafe deep in the south Burnaby industrial area. We passed by it a couple times until we noticed a sidewalk flag banner. Then we had trouble finding the entrance door as it shares an entrance with another business, see the picture. It's a cafeteria styled setup where u order and pay upfront at the till and sit at a table to eat. There was self serve room temp water at the counter, if needed. The menu is varied with a mix of Mexican, traditional breakfast/sandwiches, artisan espresso beverages and Italian pastas. We ordered the chorizo penne, creamy bacon spaghetti, birria and carnitas tacos. Pastas were both delicious with generous portions. Birria taco was delicious as well and came with its own rich broth dipping sauce. The carnitas taco was soooo bad. Very dry in a get-stuck-in-your-throat kind of way with gamey tasting meat-not recommended. The pasta dishes came with garlic bread. I didn't taste any butter or garlic, just a heavy layer of dried herbs and oil-pass. I wouldn't mind trying some other items here if I was already in the area.
A hidden gem in the quiet industrial area that serves brunches, Mexican food and wide range of lattes! The place doesn't have a big sign so it is easily missed without the handy dandy Google map. The place is comfortable and airy with seating both indoor and outdoor. They also have a wall that sells local goods like candles, tea, coffee, chocolate, etc. I ordered the BLT croissant and carnitas taco and apple juice. The prices are decent and the food are good. It's not too overwhelmingly busy yet. I will definitely come back for more tacos!
I have been hearing great things from neighbours about Olivio cafe, a much needed brunch place in the River District neighbourhood. Went there one weekend for brunch and my friends and I ordered a bunch of items - 4 chicken tacos, birrah tacos, birrah eggs Benedict, churro croffle, and chilaquilles to share. First off, the birrah meat is AMAZING and is great on the eggs Benedict as well as a taco - highly recommend! The chicken tacos were decent and are a pretty good deal on their daily taco deal where you can get 4 for $12. Croffle was pretty good and they make it fresh on the spot. I was pretty excited to try the chilaquilles and was a bit disappointed. First, the tortilla chips got soggy really quickly with the fried egg and sour cream over it. It was too bad, otherwise would have been a good dish that I would order again. The service here is really friendly and you are greeted with warmth when ordering. It feels like a pure neighbourhood cozy cafe that serves a large variety of drinks and food items. I also ordered a green tea but was a wee disappointed that it wasn't made with loose leaf or a more premium tea bag for a cafe. Overall, a cute cafe that is worth the visit especially for the birah dishes!

Olivo Cafe and Bistro 2/4 Been eating to try this unassuming cafe for a while and it did not disappoint. Firstly, there is parking, just be mindful and respectful to those spots that are reserved for other businesses. Once inside you're greeted by the friendly staff. The menu consists of Mexican favourites as well classic north Canadian eats. Do check out their daily specials too while you're there. There is quite a number of tables so if you have a large group I'm sure they can accommodate. We ended up ordering asada quesadilla, comes with pico de gallo, sour cream and a spicy salsa $20. Iced cafe mocha $6 Iced Spanish latte $6 Coffee was fantastic and the quesadilla was good. I saw some people order the breakfast which looked fantastic! That will definitely be my next order! Honestly I don't think you can go wrong with anything your order there. Go support this small business and enjoy the food! read more

Clean modern cafe in the middle of nowhere, well in this industrial business park. They took over Spoons Cafe and Grill and updated the place to this decade. There are 3-4 parking spots right in front reserved for customers or street parking. The other parking spots outside the building are usually full. They seemed to specialize in tacos! I will have to try that. I had the carnitas eggs Benedict and it was delicious. A bit too oily but yummy. The hash was perfectly crispy on the edges and fluffy soft within. This was not oily at all. The eggs were poached with runny yolks. The pork was flavorful. Only the muffin base was too soft and oily and did not hold the items well. There is a current promo of buy a sandwich or pastry and get the drip coffee free. I bought the chocolate salted cookie and coffee. The coffee with just cream in it was surprisingly good. Smooth and light bodied, with no acidic aftertaste. You can also buy candles and mugs and coffee beans and teas. They used to open till 8 pm but the hours are now reduced to 3 pm or so. Closed on Sunday. I guess they realize the location caters mainly to the office workers in the area. A pity as they do have good food and will be great to do pick up for dinner. Maybe the hours will change again when all the apartment buildings are up in the nearby River District area. Cafes are needed in the area for residents, especially on weekends. read more

Came here because it was recommended by Vancouver foodies and it has outdoor seating. I ordered their tacos (chicken, pork carnitas, beef and fish) and birriramen. The tacos are pretty small in size, pretty much bite size. I can barely taste the meat inside, either they are not well seasoned or very small amount. The birriramen was okay, just taste as it sounds with the ramen added into the birria soup. I think the soup lacks some spices. It needs a bit more heat in the broth too. Highly recommend their lychee slushy, which was delicious and refreshing. Overall, food was okay and probably wouldn't come back again. read more

Super lovely cafe in Burnaby! Had a nice lunch with a few girlfriends last weekend here. The cafe itself is super cute and cozy. A girlfriend and I ordered the Carnitas Eggs Benedict and Birria Beef Eggs Benedict, and swapped one half each so we could try them both. Both were delicious! My other two girlfriends ordered the Burrito Bowl and Birriaramen. For my drink, I ordered the Blue Lavender Latte. Listed as a caffeine-free drink, so I added a shot of espresso.. cause I need the caffeine! I really loved it. Nice that they use Blume latte powder to make it. I actually do have it at home so will definitely be attempting to make this myself! A really nice lunch overall. Will for sure be back again in the future! read more

Bright, clean cafe with friendly staff. It's an order and pay first kind of place. We ordered the breakfast burrito, 4 tacos (fish, carnitas, and beef), lattes, and a churro croffle. The burrito and tacos came with a green salsa which was tasty and not spicy. The tacos were good. Simple, yet flavourful. But the best item was the croffle! Essentially a croissant in waffle form. It was crisp on the outside, buttery and went perfect with the cream. Overall, pricing is fair, service was great, and all the food was delicious. Also noticed they sell a few items, such as cards. It's displayed along the wall right when you walk in. I would definitely give this place a try. read more

I found about this place on tik tok and it said that it was really good but it looked really good. I feel like i have been duped. The presentation was pretty good, i guess. But let's talk about the each plate individually. Let's start with the tacos, We got 2 beef and 2 carnitas. The carnitas was supppppeeeerrrrr dry. Also, no real flavor which made it even worse. They put big chunks in there and it was not good bite. So, the meat to tortilla ratio was off. The beef tacos were better, the flavor was better but again, the chunks were so huge it was hard to get a good meat tortilla ratio. Let's move on to the carnitas benedict. By this time, you can imagine my disappointment knowing that i got dry ass carnitas benedict. The eggs were cooked perfectly, but the carnitas was dry and the hollandise sauce had no real flavor. The potatoes were out of a frozen bag. Nothing special honestly. The slaw was blah as well. Lastly, was the chorizo chilaquiles. The chorizo was dry as well, the eggs were cooked perfectly but the chilaquiles were missing flavor. It was the sauce that was not good. The rice and beans were ok, nothing special. Everything need serious salt. I'm from Texas were Mexican food is amazing so my standards are "too high" maybe. Idk honestly, i do NOT recommend at all. The service is good, the people that work there are super nice. The ambiance is also very cool and relaxed. l read more

I feel really sorry that I have to give off does negative review to a place that I used to rave about. A Total disappointment the last few times we went. The quality of food and service keeps declining! Last couple times we waited a long time and food was cold when arrived & the veggies were brown. We didn't make an issue of it tho. This time, however, we feel it's just too much! We came with a couple of friends that introduced us to Olivo. This time even they had to shake their heads and said they will never return! First of all, I asked if they have just a salad coz I didn't see it on the menu nor their quick takeout sandwich fridge. The girl pointed to the menu and said they have "bowls" then looked away. Didn't seem like she was interested to help although there were only a couple tables of customers so not busy at all. So I just ordered a drink and my friends ordered some food and drinks. Let's just focus on the beverage. We ordered an Americano, iced mocha, and iced London fog. The iced mocha was way too sweet that we had to add cold water to dilute. The London fog was odd (just milk but no taste of tea), so my friend took a sip to verify that it's not my tastebuds acting up. We noticed a cup of steeped tea on the side. After a while of trying to figure out I took it to the server to inquire if i was supposed to mix the cream/milk with that side hot tea, she said the tea was given to me by mistake but it's ok we can keep it. Then, she started telling me what a London fog is. I said London Fog is my regular drink anywhere but it's my first time ordering here. She said that I'm supposed to stir the tea bag inside to get a taste of tea. I asked: so you cafe brew your tea in cold milk? Both servers said yes. So I went back to my seat and did whatever I could. Later, one of them offered to make me a new one but said she's taking back the steeped tea she gave me by mistake coz I didn't order it. I said ok because I wasn't plan on drinking it anyway. The new cup of iced London fog tasted worse then the 1st one! This time it tasted like the 1st cup just with more water added to it. I had to take it back to the server again. She said: "what do you want me to do then?" I asked what's a safe drink to order. They said "Just coffee!". I said: "I don't drink just coffee, is it safe to get a caramel macchiato?". The girl shrugged. I decided to take a chance to order that because when she said "what do you want me to do" didn't indicate to me she was gonna give me a refund. The caramel macchiato was too sweet but acceptable. However I was shocked at the extensive drinks menu and being a cafe this kind of quality and service. * I'd also like to mention that the plastic straws that they using are very brittle. My first sip sprayed all over myself because the straw split. The same thing happened to my friend who had to exchange 2x. We told the server about it, and were told to just grab a new one from the pile. They're not individually wrapped, and very unsanitary because everyone just pick a straw from that pile with their bare hands, we did that too! So that's when we realized what everyone had to do! So God knows how many caresses each straw had! I hope the management sees this and respond plus take action to improve. read more
such a cool vibe, this place is kinda in the middle of no where but it has still customers but still not too busy (just the right amount) it's Colorful and cozy in here, nice cafe place to get together and seems quite family friendly as well. Tried their carnitas eggs Benedict and their braised beef Benedict as well, both meats are so good but I like the braised beef more as it has been slow cooked. The egg is wonderfully runny and super soft and the hash browns is real potato that is quite soft. We also got tacos which were tiny cute, a fish and pork one, they give a little green sauce for the tacos to give it a bit of a kick. The drink I got was a rose london fog. I did taste that floral sweet scent. However there were tea bits at the bottom which was hard to drink near the end. My first time trying the Birria ramen and on Fridays it's only $10! Such a good deal. It's a perfect fusion dish. The birria beef is usually used for tacos it's super soft and tender! The soup is also very interesting, a little bit of spice and very flavourful! I like coming here for brunch and it's great for families as well. read more
HIDDEN GEM ALERT . This place is hidden around the industrial area and I was blown away how u never knew this place existed prior. They have a variety from coffee and lattes to sandwiches and baked goods, to fresh and hot breakfast/lunch/dessert items! * Oreo crowaffle ($5.75) ~ this was delicious, I love delicious crowaffle and Oreo ones are so delicious. There is a lot of whipped cream, I thought it was icecream but it was all whipped cream. It was crispy and chewy and buttery. The Oreos were a nice touch. * Taco ($12)~ these were absolutely delicious, Protip get tacos and the birria ramen because you can dip these beauty in that ramen soup! They were nicely seasoned and super filling because they were loaded with toppings and goodies! It came with 4 flavours: - Chicken - Pork carnitas - Beef - Fish * Birria ramen ($12)~ mind blown. This was so good I never knew birria ramen could be such a delicious must have dish. The ramen noodles were chewy and the soup was to die for! So flavourful and rich I was honestly blown away by the fragrance and herbs in the ramen. * Carnitas egg Benedict ($12) ~ the yolk was perfectly cooked and the hollandaise sauce was flavourful. I did wish the meat was more saucy. But the potatoes made up for it. Crunchy and well seasoned. * Olivo Chilaquilles ($12) ~ this was unique comes with egg, homemade tortilla chips, homemade salsa, beans and rice. * Honey latte ~ this literally is honey latte! A very unique drink with heightened honey fragrance that fills your nose and taste buds. The coffee added a nice contrast to the sweet drink. * Matcha latte ~ rich and smooth matcha latte, it was creamy and flavourful. It wasn't too strong in the matcha which I personally liked. * 8/10 ~ overall I'd come back for the birria ramen for sure! It was so delicious and the Benedict was good too. I do wish the crowaffle had less whipped cream and had icecream in it instead. read more

We tried this cafe after reading the good reviews. We ordered the Carnita Benedicts: one beef $16 and one pork $15 Both included greens and hash browns. We noticed the price went up by $3 each. When the plates arrived, there was hardly any hash browns and greens. Barely any pork. The pork Carnita had a bone in it and something hard and not edible. Disappointed. The staff was friendly and quick. Seating outside is available. I liked their mug and their green tea with pomegranate. read more
