Two pupusas with slaw and sauces.
    Henrik B.

The first time I went to El Morazan, I thought I was going crazy. I couldn't see it. But it's there, hidden in the corner. On the inside it is very sparse. High ceilings, bright lights, a few tables, and a TV that has played South- or Central American soccer the times I've been there. But there is also plenty of love and pride for El Salvador. I have only had the pupusas so far. They are the reason I went. Trying to find ways of satisfying my pupusa cravings in Bellingham. And they are good. First time I had the "standard" beans and cheese. This time I tried something new (and I think unique). A loroco/spinach and a squash (calabaza). Two pupusas filled me up just right.

It's been too long since we've had freshly made pupusas but that's exactly what Restaurante Morazan excels in. They're a Salvadoran restaurant, run by a husband and wife combo, located in the Bakerview Plaza. We dropped in on a Thursday (around 11:15am) when it wasn't too busy. Would recommend getting there early as food takes some time to come out of the kitchen. Lovely to see/hear the smacking of fresh pupusas being made to order. All the customers were Hispanic, which was a good sign. Order at the counter, clean up your table and then go up to pay when you're done. The menu is short and sweet with 9 items and two drink options. There was a couple of daily pupusa specials that I would have liked to try. - Agua de fruta ($1.99 USD) - this was refreshing and fruity. Tiny bits of apple, honeydew, cantaloupe and pineapple. Without hesitation, would order this drink again. - Plato pollo (#3) ($8.00 USD) - chicken with special sauce, beans, rice, salad and two tortillas. The salad was a mix of lettuce, tomato, beet, radish and cucumber. Generous portion of rice. Beans were good. Chicken was a touch dry. Decent but paled in flavour compared to the tamales and pupusas. - Tamales (#5) ($4.00 USD for 2) - tamales that are stuffed with chicken, potatoes and green beans. These were fantastic; the masa was incredibly moist and loved how they added in some greens. - Pupusas (#1) ($5.00 USD for 2) - we opted for the pork and cheese. It comes with the usual curtido, tomato salsa (light and refreshing) and green salsa (pleasant underlying heat to it). The pupusas were delicious, well balanced (not too cheesy) and filling. Most solo eaters were ordering this as their lunch. Looking forward to coming back to Morazan to try the rest of their small menu!

    The #2 sandwich...it's huge!

Sometimes the best restaurant experiences are with the ones who - at first glance - don't seem like much. Morazan is just this type of place. Located in the very back of the Bakerview Square complex, Morazan is not easy to find and is (most likely) operating primarily via word-of-mouth. So there's a reason it's survived so long without much advertising and almost zero social media presence: IT'S GOOD. I mean, like REALLY good! I arrived with a Yelpy friend during the lunch hour, and this little spot was already filling up. We ordered at the counter, where the three-item menu (1-Papusas, 2-Sandwich, 3-Chicken plate) is posted on the wall. The lovely owner/operators greeted us, took our orders, cooked, and delivered our sandwiches in a flash. So...I gotta tell you about this sandwich. Served in a crunch French-style roll, this baby was layered with goodness. First, there was the chicken layer. Cooked in what I presume is a traditional Salvadoran way, the meat was fall-apart tender and bathed in a zippy (but not too spicy) sauce. This giant sandwich was adorned with impossibly fresh veggies making it not only fairly healthy, but quite picturesque. And, most importantly, it was delicious. Like, I-gotta-come-back-soon-and-get-another-one delicious. Morazan isn't the most stylish restaurant around, but what it lacks in coolness it makes up for in heart. The owners are delightful and you can tell they take a lot of pride in their business and their food. Next time I'm gonna save up my appetite and order the chicken plate!

Great hole-in-the-wall place. Salvadoran food just like your find down south. Dropped by for lunch and had the papusas plate. Two cornmeal flat beads stuffed with fillings. One is usually cheese and the second can be chicken or pork. The cheese was a delicious shift cheese mix lightly spiced and quite delicious. A small salad was served alongside. Tangy vinegar and spices were a welcome addition to lunch. Two mild sauces were served alongside. Both reminded me to dishes of had in El Salvador. This place is a little hard to find tucked away in the rear corner of Bakerview Square, but well worth the effort. This family run place deserves to be better known.

WHO KNEW!!! There is an authentic Salvadoran Pupusas and Tamales restaurant. Like breakfast joint. Traditional Salvadoran place. Reminds me of real street foods in Central America. A small but very clean restaurant and Made to order Pupusas were so fresh and tasty. Not too much masa. Not greasy just done right way and cabbage slaw was perfectly crunchy and sour. Their green salsa was on point. Not too heavy nor chunky salsa. Like a spicy dipping sauce and blend well w pupusa and tamale. I would go back there when visiting in Bellingham again. Fantastic people works there.

Were @ my Eye Dr. next door when we saw this cozy eatery! Were told it was very affordable & tasty. Always willing to try new places. Needed "take out" since we had to get home for our playoff NHL game! We ordered the Pork Pupusa dinners as the pic shows. Friendly owner, freshly prepared food (can watch as it's done so no doubt). Must say were not happy with the pupusas; mine had NO pork, just cheese, & husband's had some but very little pork. Not sure if it was a "mistake" or neglect since it was take out. The salad was quite plain but fresh and the sauces were tasty, especially the "green", if like us you enjoy abit of spiciness.

Very tasty pupusas. We ordered the loroco and chicharrón pupusas with some plátanos. Everything was made fresh. Friendly staff. The horchata and agua the frutas was so good! Totally recommend this place.

We have eaten at this great new little spot twice in the last week. We had chicken papusas both times, which were just great. They come with cabbage salad and delicious salsa for $4, a bargain. There are two salsas, green and red. The green was my favorite, considerably spicier. They also have tamales, a chicken plate ($8), and one or two other menu items. Frankly, you can't help but be impressed by the care the owners put into the preparation of the food and the customer service. It's the kind of unique, local establishment I love to support. I'll be back often.

    #1 Papusas con Pollo

Reddit (r/Bellingham) brought me here. As recommended, I tried the papusas con pollo along with an agua de orchata. Made to order, the papusas were fluffy, crisp and very tasty. If you haven't had papusas before, the outside is cornmeal and, in this case, filled with chicken and cheese. The taste is somewhat similar to a tamale. They were served with a light and crispy coleslaw salad. The the agua fresca was tasty as well and the size was more than generous (16-18 oz). Morazan is a quiet spot, only a few people there at 6:30 PM on a Thursday eve. I hope more locals discover and support it soon. I look forward to returning and trying more items on the menu.

We recently ordered the 8" tres leche cake for $65, and it is massive! I know it's soaked in three milks, but it was so heavy... it's finished with whipped cream and fruit, and you can choose either coconut or chocolate for the outside. We chose coconut for a less sweet option -!: it was delicious, super moist and tasty. It's a very rich cake though with all the whipped cream, so you can't eat too large a slice. There were plenty of leftovers, so we pre sliced them and freezer them. They defrost in the fridge overnight and taste so good again the next day. Will definitely be back for the tres leche, and ordering more pastries!
