We eat at Tacalitlan at least once a week. Good food, good service, and quick. I recommend it.

My burrito was ready in under a minute, which only tells me everything was already prepared and cooked beforehand. The burrito itself was subpar. The tortilla wasn't great and was too small for its contents, which made it the messiest burrito I've ever eaten. The flavor wasn't bad though. Won't be back, unfortunately. read more

We were excited to try this place at first. Walking in they were playing cumbia and Latin music, had some cool decorations, were selling various Mexican candies and sodas. Menu looked like it covered all the usual and even had lengua. However, after receiving our burritos, we were sorry disappointed. The smell and look off my chicken burrito was unappealing. The burrito was also not nicely wrapped. I could smell the industrial flour tortilla before anything else. The burrito was mostly rice and the chicken was lacking in flavor. The menu said there was avocado in here but there was none! No pico de gallo inside to add some freshness. There was also one measlt slice of jalapeno. Even the little cups of green and red salsa they gave us on the side were watery and lakced flavor. Husband said his abodaba (pork) was also lacking in flavor. So sad. So disappointed. But I guess that's what you get at $8 for a burrito. Never returning. read more

I had a dentist appointment in Bham this week and, afterwards, was craving some lunch. So I popped into one of my old favorite places: Taqueria Tecalitlan! This little brick 'n mortar with food truck style yumminess is still serving up tasty food, and their carne asada tacos, as always, did not disappoint. The prices have gone up a bit since I lived in the Ham, but the flavors were still the same deliciousness. I think the only thing that would make this place perfect would be the opportunity to pop open a cold Corona beer with my tacos (or even a margarita). It's a pretty small spot, though, so not sure that will happen. It's best to plan on getting takeout from here, as there aren't always tables available in their tiny seating area. I keep hoping they'll expand into the former restaurant next door - would be great to have a tasty, full-service Mexican restaurant in the neighborhood! read more

I came here with my friend H who is Mexican and knows what is authentic Mexican food. USA has way more authentic restaurant than in Vancouver BC. We decided to come here for some real deal. I got the Carne Asada and my friend H got a sopitos, 2 tacos and 2 tamales. We also each got a glass of horchatas. The 2 tamales was for us to share but we were both too full after our main. The prices are very reasonable here. FIrst off, all the food here are super tasty. The owner here is wonderful and sweet. Service was absolutely phenomeno. My Carne Asada was super delicious. It also came with tortillas. The beef was flavorful. I liked the flavored rice. Everything was exceptionally delicious. My friend said her food was splendid. We had a good chat with the owner of the restaurant. She also owns another location but with a much more upscale decor. We need to go and try her other restaurant. Went there around 6pm and got a couple burritos and tortas to go. One of the worst meals I've ever had in Bellingham. The burritos were mostly rice, meat was super dry and flavorless. My mom was craving menudo so we decided to try this place for the first time and for starters the menudo came out and the juice was the color orange which I have never in my life seen before as it's supposed to be more on the color red side but it had no flavor at all very disappointing because we were looking forward to trying a local Bellingham business. After trying to make it taste better myself putting more salt in it trying to add in their salsa to make it someone taste better but it all failed so I decided to order a torta and I thought they were joking when I open it up and there was ONE very small piece of avocado. The torta had just meat(I picked asada but it was soo dry) jalapeños, the tiny piece of avocado and cabbage ? Never seen a torta have cabbage??? Very strange overall I told the waitress all of this and she was nice and added more avocado but definitely would not recommend this place to anyone or ever come again. Slight crisp on the outside, super hot and soft in the inside. We had 8 tacos, a pork tamale, horchata and bottle of sangria soda all for $15. I wish I lived closer! My carne asada was so chewy I just couldn't finish it. My husband tried a variety of tacos and he felt they were very average. Our friends felt the same way. Stopped here one our way to Seattle after crossing the border. Small, hole in the wall. But the prices are amazing and the authentic Mexican food is legit. I've now ended up ordering take out to bring across the border that's how delicious they are! The establishment itself is clean and small but colourful and have various Mexican sweets candies etc on the counter area. You come in, place your order, get a number and then they bring you your food. We tried the carne asada tacos and sopitos as well as the pollo. The portions are standard but it's so filling!! Every time we come down to the States means getting our Mexican on. This time it was to try Taqueria Tecalitlan. They're next door to Niener Niener Wiener. They also have a food truck that's in the same area/neighbourhood. We dropped in on a Friday (around 11:00am) and were the first customers. Busy, popular spot with what seems like several regulars. The inside has room for about 32 people (6 tables and several high chairs). They were playing Spanish pop music videos on the TV's. The menu is small but there's about 10 items to choose from. You choose the type of meat you want for most options. - Sauces - they bring out two sauces to the table. A red and green (which had a solid but subtle kick to it). - Horchata ($2.00 US) - legit. An abundance of real, delicious cinnamon flavour. I wanted a second cup. - 6x Tacos ($1.75 US) - we opted for the asada (beef), adobada (pork), cabeza (cheek), buches (pork stomach), lengua ($2.00 US) and tripea ($2.50 US). The best was the tripea (flavourful, fatty and tender) and lengua. Cabeza and buches were also delightful with a satisfyingly crunchy texture. Least favourite was the asada; slightly dry and not much flavour going on. - Torta ($5.99 US) - we opted for carnitas (deep fried pork) with tomatoes, jalapeños, avocado and cabbage. The sandwich is massive; almost as big as your face. Slightly toasted but could have been even more so. The carnitas was moist and flavourful. Really liked the pickled jalapeños but wish they added more avocado. - Sopito ($2.50 US) - we opted for pollo (chicken) with cotija cheese, cilantro, onion, cabbage and pico de gallo. Pollo was enjoyable and the sopito itself had a good texture. Another solid Mexican spot with good prices and eats. Would come back to TT for their other dishes. read more

There's very little I can add to all of these numerous positive reviews. They serve taco truck food in a fast-food restaurant setting. So, good food but you don't have to pay much (e.g., $1.50 tacos, $2.50 tostadas, $4.99 burritos). I've only been to Mexico once, but I think their food is authentic. I see a lot of Spanish speaking customers here, which is an indication of authenticity. Also, their choices of meat make me think that they make authentic food: tongue, cheek, and pig stomach as well as "regular" beef, pork, and chicken. When you are hungry and want good quick Mexican, I think this is the place. There's one (and only one) negative review on this restaurant (so far), but I have to say most of her complaints come from her unrealistic expectations. Yes, they do use paper plates and plastic utensils. So what? That's what all fast food restaurants do! Notes: - One potential drawback is that they do not serve alcohol. -There were several times I came here only to find they were closed (without notice). Call ahead if you don't live nearby. - They close at 7pm (not 8pm like they used to). - They are closed on Sunday (like most taco places); for taco "emergencies" on Sunday, try Mi Rancho Meat Market on Northwest Ave. They are open on Sundays, and they serve homemade tortillas on the weekend for the same price (see my review for details). - Their pork (adobada) is very oily. Surprisingly, their carnitas (deep fried pork) is much much less oily. This is a great place for authentic, cheap and quick Mexican food. We stopped in for lunch, the place was super busy. It is a small eatery where you order at the counter and then sit.the girl at the counter was very friendly and helpful with the menu. It also seemed to be a popular take out place. We ordered and sat right down and had food in 10 minutes or so. The food is really fresh, they have filling portions and so delicious. This is definitely one of our go to Mexican places now. We love this place! Food is always super fresh, super flavorful, light (not heavy). You order up at the counter and they deliver it to your seat, so it is in between fast food and restaurant in terms of type of place.
