It was okay. Kiddos enjoyed their food. Birria Pizza was priced at $32 which seems kind of a lot for a beefy quesadilla but it was big so I'll give them that. Chicharron dish was a little hard and overdone for me but gave that feedback plus that the cassava (I mistakenly said yucca) should have been cut smaller for crispier texture and not so much blandness. I tried this place because it's right by the Steve Nash gym. Great little family run place! Delicious, well-priced, good quality food. I'm already excited to go back so I can try more food from here. I got the revueltas pupusas (mozzarella cheese, beans, and minced pork) $3, and the chicharron y queso pupusas (minced pork & mozzarella cheese) $3. It came with a side of cabbage salad that was too acidic for my liking but a nice side that I didn't expect. Plus, they started me off with a basket of free chips and salsa! These guys didn't like a review I posted so they asked me to never come back to their restaurant. Rather than taking the criticism and asking how to improve they just tell me I'm not welcome. Tried out Don Chepe's Mexican restaurant. Not bad. Really wish they would let you mix up your tacos. Had to be 3 of the same for $9 and the 2 specialty ones are 3 for $12. Hubbys beef burrito was good, absolutely massive! It was grilled on the outside that gave it an awesome texture and crunch. But similar to a Mucho Burrito. Was cute, the waiter put down a to go bag and container after he dropped off the food! Lol. A lot of reviews about lack of service. We had no issues. They guy serving us was very quiet and maybe why? We didn't get any chips and salsa to start and didn't notice till after we left. No biggie. We'll be back to try some more menu items. read more

First time trying pupusas and it did not disappoint! Also, it was a very affordable snack at $3 each. The minced pork and mozzarella cheese one was the favourite over the mozzarella, beans and minced pork. The tamales de Gallina ($3) was alright. It was good for trying once. It was starchy with the corn flour dough with some shredded chicken, potato and chickpea filling. The asada (beef steak) tacos were fantastic ($9). The meat was well seasoned and flavourful. The cilantro, lime and onion enhanced the meat flavour. I also ordered a horchata ($3) and it was on the cinnamon heavy side. Service was fast. We received complimentary chips and salsa. Our server explained what each item was and checked in once to see how we were doing. The restaurant was surprisingly empty on a weekday afternoon and there was Spanish TV show playing with the volume on the louder side. The restaurant itself looks more inviting than the exterior dated looking plaza. 4 stars for the pupusas and tacos. If you are in the area, I recommend stopping by to try some Latin food if you are feeling adventurous. read more

It's a hole in the wall kind of place. Not too bad. I love the complimentary chips with salsa. I was excited to try their pupusas (3/5) but unfortunately they weren't the best I've had. I found it to be a bit on the bland side. It could be 'cause there's not enough filling or too much dough. I also got their sopa de pata (3/5) this also could do with more salt and wasn't as flavourful as I'd like. The soup is big enough to share and comes with a side of corn tortilla. Lastly, the camarones a la diabla was good but on the spicy side. It comes with rice, tortillas, refried beans and onions & pepper. You can eat it as is or make a mini taco with it. read more

Visited with my wife who had been there a month ago with her friends. She had really enjoyed it. The service was poor as the owner's son looked like he was busy on his phone. My wife ordered a starter and a burrito. I asked for chicken fajitas and a root beer. My wife said her starter looked a lot smaller than the first time she was here. Her burrito was big and she enjoyed it. Saved the other half for lunch. The one thing I ordered, the chicken fajitas, came in the form of a burrito. I asked and he said he thought I wanted a chicken fajitas burrito because my wife had ordered a burrito. The waiter half jokingly said that it was both of our faults as I didn't specify which type of fajitas I wanted. Never offered to replace my order. I just sucked it up and decided to eat it and not come back. I found the chicken fajitas burrito mediocre and it could have used some salsa or something. As others have said, the place is a hole in the wall. It seemed clean. We never were checked on after that (only one other table had customers). But to be fair, he had his phone to check. I'm actually pretty impressed with this place! I never would have found this place if it wasn't for my Spanish friend. And I'm glad she took me here The Pupusas were gigantic - I ordered 4... I usually order this many because they're small and boy was I wrong about this place. I barely finished the 3rd. But I pulled a champ and finished all four and waddled my self out... We loved this place! Told to try this place out by a coworker of mine and were surprised at how close we lived to it. He said it was recently redone and it looked nice. It's no 5 star yaletown flashy place but it was nice and clean. The service was helpful and friendly. We ordered Cola-Champagne drinks that were super tasty, guacamole and chips, 2 burritos one each and 3 tacos and 1 pork pupusa. The Shrimp burrito I ate was amazing. It was so huge for the only 12$ paid and was stuffed to the edge with so much filling it was great. Best part was dessert. I cannot pronounce what it was called in English but it was deep fries plantains with condensed milk I think and dusted with powdered stuff yummy! We definitely will be back again as the price was so right for everything that we are. Best part was it didn't just look fresh or say it was fresh it tasted fresh and was fresh! read more

The only reason why I'm giving this rating is because of the poor customer service. The food is defiantly delicious but the lack of polite customer service made the dinner experience feel cold. Although they were decent I found them to be a bit undercooked (more doughy than I like) and not filled enough (I expect my cheese papusas to be super gooey). Might have just been an off day... The papusas. Oh my God, the papusas. These papusas mimicked the kind I used to have at my Salvadorean friend's house in elementary school, the pillowy yet dense homemade papusas I used to dream about. The filling ratio was good, and they were huge. Your eyes will tempt you to order more, but they fill you up quickly. I recommend the queso and the revuelta papusas (pork, cheese, and beans). My only criticism is that I would want more curtido - the pickled cabbage that normally comes with papusas. The papusas are served with a small side plate of curtido and salsa, and the curtido has some bite to it too. Very good dish, overall. My dining companions also ordered the lengua (beef tongue) tacos, and while it was not quite for me, I must say, the beef tongue was flavourful and very tender. They raved about it. Our server, the son of the owner, told us afterwards that the papusas and lengua tacos were his favourites, so I guess we chose right! The only thing that we didn't love was the horchata. While was it very creamy and refreshing, the nutmeg and other spices were overdone and aggressive. My friend even commented that it was like drinking cold pho broth. Ugh. There are daily food specials, and the place is very clean and tidy. Complimentary chips and salsa served at the beginning of your meal, and service was quick and super friendly. this is a cozy little spot in North Surrey. Clean and modern dining room, easy parking, very friendly staff, and delicious El Salvadoran food. Pupusas are large and very filling. I ordered 3 but should have only had 2, there was a lot of food on my plate. They're dense and flavorful. The cabbage slaw is a appropriately crisp and tangy, with just the right amount of spiciness. I wasn't surprised to see the previous taco place replaced by this restaurant. Since there's a big picture in the window of tacos and I'm a taco fan I had to stop in. The taco selection is small (4) and I chose 2 Al Pastor and 2 Asada; and between the milder green salsa and spicier red salsa I chose green. That was a good thing as the tacos were slathered in salsa. I personally prefer tacos delivered with a neutral salsa and then I can spice it to taste. I found the green salsa pleasantly spicy though as the minimum offered spiciness level someone who likes their tacos mild may find it too spicy. I give both tacos 8.5 out of 10. Went to Don Chepe's today and it was fairly good. Had the steak burrito; the steak was excellent. It comes with beans and rice; neither of which were very good...the beef definitely made up for it. My previous visit to Don Chepe's was with my husband and three kids, and we arrived at the same time as a large party of nearly 20 adults, we were told our order would be taken after the large party of 20 people (which was still waiting for more people to arrive.) My kids were already looking forward to having 'pupusas' so even though we wished they had helped our smaller group of 5 which included 3 kids first, we ended up waiting. I later realized we should've just left as the wait was long. My second visit was with my parents and my children and husband. My parents and I ordered the 'sopa de pata' but only one of the three bowls that we ordered was complete with all the vegetables this type of soup normally includes: corn, plantain, cassava, chayote, cabagge, in addition to the main ingredient (the meat, and the soup) and the other two bowls were missing the corn on the cob, the plantain, the cassava, only one had chayote and cassava, and both had very little tripe. The soup was also very diluted in a very large bowl. No one checked on us. When it was time to pay, I was told the tip was automatically added to our bill as we were a large group (2 adults, 3 kids) and my parents table was next to ours (they were paying separately) At this time I told the young man at the cash register that our soup was not proportioned evenly as only 1 soup contained what all three should've, although he did apologize and said he would let the kitchen know, no attempt was made to compensate for that, and still automatically billed me a tip for the amount chosen by them (which should be optional in a similar situation). So based on my two negative experiences, I will not be returning there. read more

Ate here last night. Pretty pricey. Pupusas were ok but the sad excuse for a shrimp burrito was dry and tasteless. I asked for extra chicken (In addition to the shrimp) in the burrito. I paid for chicken. Didn't see ANY chicken. Service was outstandingly unfriendly. I dealt directly with the owner and he treated me like I was a bother. I had read Ally R.'s review and thought she might have just been the victim of momentary stupidity. I decided to give the restaurant the benefit of the doubt. They had lots of other decent reviews and anyone can have a bad day. After having dealt with them however, I can see that there is an attitude problem. I won't be returning. read more

Travelling through BC from Toronto, Ontario. We stayed in Surrey for a few nights and ended up checking out this restaurant. We are originally from El Salvador and were looking for some authentic food. I don't know why people keep saying that they got poor customer service because we got fantastic service! The young man who was our waiter was very nice. We had the cheese pupusas, sopa de res and quesadillas (from El Salvador) and all tasted great. Having been recommended by a friend who is an El Salvadorian I went here to try their papusa but instead was tempted by the soft small but oh so flavourful tacos! The place is quaint but for some reason on a Saturday noon the place was dark inside on a gloomy hailing storm raging outside. For a moment I thought they had a power outage but realized they didn't. Service was prompt and staff seemed friendly enough but after being served the complimentary stale tortilla chips with spicy salsa and my order of 3 soft asado tacos I never saw the waitress again. I have to admit the tacos were delicious but found the price a bit high at $9. Also ordered horchata - which was refreshing and delicious - within 30 minutes the place was filling up with what looked like Salvadorian families or at the least latin people. I definitely will come back to try their famous papusa and other delicious looking items from the extensive menu. read more
