Went for a quick weeknight dinner. The atmosphere was humble as a restaurant, but they also run a grocery out of the other side of the building. Some of the other patrons were quite loud, but there was a soccer game on. Overall the food was good, but not amazing. For $14 with tax, I really can't complain much. New location, 1 block south at 10511 King George. Decided to give it a try as I LOVE Mexican food. I was flying solo so only one dish ordered... Chorizo Enchiladas. I asked for verde (green sauce) but red was on them. Kinda funny as I thought I should of gotten red instead of green. The food gods took care of my after thought, LOL. The sauce was a bit salty but I don't use a lot of salt so some may be OK with it. Now, their refried beans were very good. Nice rich dark brown colour and the rice was perfectly cooked. The small salad was nice but the pico di gallo was so good, I could eat a plate of just that. Friendly service and the food came pretty quick which was good as I was hungry. Was talking to a skip the dishes driver picking up an order and he says people rave about their Papusas and they are authentic Salvadorian. I'll have to go back and try them. I tried the burrote which was quite large and filling. I tried the beef one and felt it was a little light on the meat. The flavor was decent but when it comes to Mexican food, I have been to a handful of places that were more authentic in Mexican food. I would try it again knowing full well what I will get for my money. I'm also confused why they included tortilla chips with my order. They were half soggy as they were packed with the burrito and there was no salsa. Who eats plain tortilla chips. Man.. I'm so bummed with my experience. I ordered through Skipthedishes. I was so excited to try the food here. I had a hard time deciding.. tamales? Papusas? Tacos? Enchiladas? I decided on the enchiladas and added a tamale. I was worried it would be too much food.. but yolo right? Now, my husband always hassles me on how much money I waste on over ordering food. Every. Single. Time. I just don't want to risk still being hungry after. I get hangry, alright? I rarely ever finish an entire meal. I don't think I've ever been able to finish an order of enchiladas. Well, I'm still hungry guys. The enchiladas were tiny, and I know I ordered chicken but tbh, I think that might have qualified as vegetarian. They skimped on the filling. Sometimes places will give you smaller enchiladas but more filler/side dishes. Nope. There was a tiny container of beans, which I finished in one heaping spoonful. And there was barely any rice. Tiny enchiladas, and barely any cheap filler. I'm pretty annoyed because my husband got a burrito which was only $2 more and it was WAY more food. I definitely wouldn't have been able to finish the burrito, had I ordered that instead. The tamale was alright. Standard tamale, $3, not bad. I'm annoyed. I can never finish an order of enchiladas anywhere else, but today I was able to finish an order from La Conquistadora in 3 minutes flat, had the tamale, and am still extremely hungry. Disappointing as I was really excited to try the papusas next time. Unfortunately I won't be trying food from here again. I honestly feel taken advantage of. Didn't quite conquer my taste buds. I ordered delivery through Skip the Dishes because hell no I won't walk there in person, it's in a sketchy part of Whalley. So anyway, I got the beef quesadilla and beef burrito. It took about 50 minutes just to get these 2 items ready and when I got it finally, I was sadly disappointed. Quesadilla shell was slightly burnt, beef not as tasty just kinda marinated, and my burrito was mostly rice and beans with little meat filling. I don't know I've been spoiled by other Mexican restos that offer much tastier dishes. Like I was expecting a wild party with a range of spices and flavors but all I got was generic bean and rice taste and burnt quesadilla to boot. It was edible though, so 3 stars for that. read more

Came to this place because Google reviews. & let me just say I don't know how many times I tried to explain to them what I wanted. But turns out they did not understand me in the end. & because they didn't understand, I heard them basically talking shit in Spanish, which they didn't know I understood what they were saying. They were pretty rude as people who work there.. only thing I enjoyed was the fried yuca. It reminded me of my dad dish when I was a kid, & I loved it. The horchata was good. I had the worst experience with this restaurant. I ordered food through Skip the Dishes and while the courier was on the way to my house, the restaurant called and said the courier forgot half of our order. I talked to Skip the Dishes and they said that it was the restaurant's responsibility to make sure that the courier brings all the food. I ordered my food at 6:25 pm and got the other half of my order at 8:30 pm. That's ridiculous!!! What makes me so angry is that they called me to tell the courier to come back when it was their fault and I had no way of communicating with the courier until they arrived at my house. It was their fault that they didn't double check the food with the courier. They should have at least given me some compensation for the inconvenience they caused. Honestly, I'll never order from them again!!!! read more

I have to admit, other than the weather, the one thing I miss from southern California is the mom and pop Mexican restaurants that are hidden everywhere. Fortunately, someone hid one in Surrey too. Same little unsuspecting, unpretentious, understated shop in a tiny strip mall but with some really authentic Mexican/El Salvadorian food. I love their burritos, despite the fact I can never finish it in one meal. The fact that they keep a few extra food items on a few shelves that I can buy is an extra bonus. I don't have have to pine for home cooked Mexican food anymore. Guess that just leaves the weather! This is a place worth checking out. read more

I looked up tamales in Surrey B.C. And La Conquistadora came up. I even read the reviews online and they were hit or miss. My craving was so strong I decided to check it out. This place is in one of the most shadiest areas of Surrey, smack middle of Whalley. I pulled up and to the restaurant and even contemplated getting out of the car as I had see sketchy people all around me it seemed. I shook it off and entered. An older gentleman greeted us at the door and he was real friendly and welcoming. He spoke minimal English so I just assumed I was getting some great authentic food! We ordered take out- which was enchilada and tamales. It smelled delicious. We took it home and enjoyed the food in front of our tv in the comfort of our home. And I must say it was delicious and I highly recommend anyone who is looking for something quick and tasty to try! read more

Unfortunately, we went there tonight, first time in 18 months and I don't think we will return. Boy was I disappointed in their food. Started with the main dish. One appetizer came as we were eating the main dish, second did not show up at all!! Ordered vegetarian enchiladas. Came with a tablespoon of beans and rice on the side. The 1/2 tablespoon of filling in the tiny enchiladas was awful. Frozen veggies in some chilli sauce, with a couple of crumbs of some cheese. Enchiladas were covered with green sauce and smothered with sour cream. It looked unappetizing, and was bland. Guacamole was slimy and had no taste. Horchata was watered down and tasteless. Yucca never came. We used to go often when they were in their old location. It was our favourite restaurant. The plates were always well presented, tasty, flavourful and used fresh vegetables. This place is very quaint inside. The staff are very pleasant. We love the taste of the food here But the portions are small. The sauces and accompaniments are yummy. I would suggest an appetzer and a main if you are hungry. I have never had papusas but the people next ya orders them and I am definitely trying next time! We asked about Skip the Dishes and Willy, the server, didn't have good things to say. He told us they didn't always pick up when they should and would meet the food sit. Of course, searching the the Yelp Stream I stumbled upon La Conquistadora. You could tell right off the bat that the food was going to be authentic Mexican food. We ordered Flautas, Tacos, and a shredded beef burrito. All were good. Service was fine, we were the only ones here at the time, so it was just one on one. I'm from the southern US, which means I've been looking for decent Mexican food in Canada since the moment I moved here. I was encouraged by the reviews and overall look of the food at La Conquistadora...I'm so sad to say I've been disappointed on the two occasions I've ordered from here. I understand that when you order via a delivery service (Skip the Dishes in this case), you do so with the understanding that some of the items may not travel as well as others. I always make allowances for this when considering taste and presentation, both of which were fairly disappointing here. The "refried beans" were served in the tiniest condiment cup you can imagine, and were about 85% liquid. The food was packaged in Styrofoam rather than aluminum/paper top packaging, which is more traditional for takeaway when ordering Mexican food for quality and reheating purposes. Having two enchiladas practically folded in half with stale rice and that tiny container of beans was such a bummer. Maybe I'll visit this place in person one day and see what it has to offer, but as it stands now...Probably not. The bottom line here is if La Conqustadora isn't committed to providing semi-decent quality to all of its customers, it shouldn't be offering delivery at all. read more

I ordered chicken enchiladas with green sauce. The food was alright but nothing special. I've never had watery refried beans before... so that was off-putting. However, the flavour of it was great. The food has potential and the sub-par quality may be due to it being a delivery order. I'm open to sitting down and trying this restaurant thoroughly next time though. read more

We went there today based on reviews from fellow Yelper's. I LOVE the ambiance of this place, Spanish music playing and a warm family run restaurant. Had the Guacomole dip as an app. Didn't think it was worth $5 and they overcharge for a can of Coke ($2) BUT the regular sized burrito ($12) was huge and very filling and the Spanish fruit drink was awesome ($2.50) and both are WELL worth the price. read more

Taqueria Jalisco is apparently closed on Sundays now. Excuse me?! So, my friend and I went here instead. Jamaica, fried tacos, and quesadillas. Delicious. Definitely operate on "manana time" - we got our own menus, waitress arrived after 20 minutes, food came after another 15 or so... totally fine - we had lots to talk about! My fried tacos were great - reminded me of a homemade taquito. The salsa roja was awesome. Refried beans were very soupy and reminded me of my Dominican friends' style of beans, which was delicious but seemed to fit strangely. The salsa served with the chips was cilantro-heavy which I LOVED, but definitely something to keep in mind if you're not a huge fan of cilantro. The little market in the back was great. Lots of authentic items, and the only place I've found panca peppers (used in Peruvian food) outside of southern California. Let's see... while we were eating, two young Salvadorian guys came in and sat beside us and talked for 40 minutes. It was beautiful. Yes. I will go here just to listen to the handsome men talk.
