Went to their soft opening. Food was delicious. Had their samosa, presentation was meh but taste was great! Naan is just the right amount of flakey and doughy. Their traditional dishes were near perfect. Spice levels were not that spicy. Next time would ask them to make dishes a bit more spicy. Their portions are perfect. Drinks were unreal. Had a coconut drink and it was ridiculous. The bathroom soap is from Le Labo. can't wait to go back! This place is going to be a hit for sure. read more

This place is incredible! Amazing food, atmosphere AND service. It's such a rare experience to find a Indian restaurant in Chicago that checks off all these boxes. Definitely my new fav Indian Restaurant. Great selection of cocktails, wines and non alcoholic drinks. A lot of thought has been put into every aspect of this restaurant. Not to mention it's beautiful inside! Check it out, you won't regret it!! Ps. I am Indian! read more

First of all I'll say all food tastes great. Quality and taste wise, definitely one of the best Indian takeout I've had in Chicago. Would I order again? Probably not, until they can get down to reasonable prices and better portions. Example, paid over $20 for a goat/lamb dish, mostly sauce with 4 maybe 5 pieces of goat.. every main meat dish over $20.. two meat orders, 2 naan orders and samosa, takeout (not delivery) all in for $70.. family of 4 still hungry.. read more

Beautiful interior, great service and even better food! Gruyere naan was the highlight of our meal.

I visited here with a girlfriend recently for dinner. The ambiance was nice and drink menu was nice- with some GOT drink specials that got my attention. My favorite part of the meal was the naan and paneer. I also ordered the prawn curry but the prawns were a bit chewy- possibly overlooked. Everything else was Extremely delicious. This place can be a great date spot as well. Will be back soon. read more

Poor service. Inspite of a reservation we were made to wait for 45 mins . Food was still okay. read more

Atmosphere is just right. Not pretentious. But classy. Bartender makes delicious cocktails. We asked if the Chili Chicken/Paneer Chili appetizer can come with both (it's either/or). They accommodated us by combining both into one scrumptious dish. We ordered Tandoori Chicken, Goat Steak and Saag Paneer. The Tandoori Chicken was excellent. The meat was soft and falling off the bone. The Saag Paneer had great consistency. The Goat steak was a little tough but tasty. Service was excellent. read more

Living in wicker park I feel I've gotten jaded by the over-saturation of hot and new restaurants. But I knew the moment I put the first bite of my samosa in my mouth that I would be back for more. The meal was amazing, the staff attentive, and the drinks out of this world. I will definitely be back for more. read more

First time trying Indian/ Nepalese food and its very delicious . The momos , Goat keema samosa , chicken tikka masala , chicken chilli and the gruyere cheese naan are my favorite ! If you're not able 2 dine in you can always get delivery or take out . read more

We had an outstanding experience ordering food from Vajra a couple of days ago. In honor of my husband's birthday, we ordered the family meal for 4 but it was really for 8. All the dishes are were extremely delicious: creamy yet not oily, fresh and arometic. The food came with plenty of rice (2 large containers) and 2 types of buttery na'ans. Although, we live relatively far (Ravenswood Manor), the food was delivered to us and it was warm and ready to be served right away. The restaurant even threw in a bottle of Pinot Noir as I mentioned it was my husband's birthday. Overall, Vajra really went above and beyond in terms of service and quality of food. I should mentioned that we enjoyed dining in Vajra in the past, yet their delivery really exceeded our expectations. read more

This was probably the best Indian food we've had in the Chicago area! Service was great, and the food was very authentic. Loved the flavors of the curries. Even got to meet the chef at the end, who was kind enough to take a picture with us! Would recommend, vegetarian friendly. read more

Worst customer service! The restaurant made an error with our reservation and I asked to speak to the manger. The manager informed me that our party could not be accommodated, even though it was an error on their part. Extremely disappointed in how the manager just refused to deal with it. Will never go this restaurant. I actually made the original reservation for 5 people! You booked in your system incorrectly. I know how many guests were flying in from out of town. Your reply to my posting is absolutely unbelievable. You cant even admit you made an error. read more

My family tried this place tonight and it's amazing!!! We have tried many (many) Indian places and this is by far the best we've had in Chicago. The gruyere naan was a crowd favorite. We ordered Korma, tikka masala and vindalu and all were delish! We had zero leftovers. The samosas were also the best we've had in a long time. If you're looking for good Indian food, look no further!!! read more

This place is on the fancy/pricy side of Indian/Nepalese places. As long as you go in expecting more expensive and smaller, but incredibly high quality, portions - I don't think you will be disappointed. Everything we had was delicious. The naan with cheese was awesome, and I particularly liked the dish with baby corn. I'm excited for them to get their liquor license. I didn't bother with any of the mocktails but they looked awesome and I can't wait to see what they do with booze once they get their license. Long story short, this isn't goimg to be your Indian buffet or otherwise gut-stuffing food experience, but it will be incredibly high quality and worth it. read more

On the pricier side for takeout but the food was delicious! The butter chicken was amazing as was the chicken berry pulao à la Britannia. I never thought it would be possible to find such good berry pulao away from home but they've nailed it. Hoping they keep it on the menu and can't wait to visit again. read more

I'm from India and this is even better than a lot of fancy restaurants there.. me and my husband were here for the soft opening and again a week after.. food is as good as most of the high end restaurants in India and better than any other Indian restaurant In chicago and suburbs.. I loved everything from their cutlery / service and ambiance.. We had dal makhani (beyond awesome Paneer stuffed capsicum (I have never seen this served in a restaurant and i throughly enjoyed it) Saffron rice (has the saffron and tastes so good) My husband had the chicken tandoori and it was tender and amazing. We also had the samosa chat which was amazing. Overall my favorite restaurant in chicago read more

We ordered chicken biryani and goat curry and momo cha. Loved it. The paan kulfi for dessert was fabulous. Love the ambience and love the food. Only thing is I would like to see momo cha as main dish rather than an appetizer read more

Great new Indian food place in West Town! I've had it twice now--once ordered in and once ate at the restaurant. The food was great both times! Will definitely be back read more

This place is amazing. Great ambience, attentive service and delicious food. I forgot to take photos, but had their Shrimp Curry, Okra and Garlic Naan. They were all 10s! Tapioca Pudding was over the top surprise to finish our wonderful dinner. Will definitely be back. read more

I returned on a Tuesday. The curries I tried were not the same consistency as the first time I had tried. So, while still very good, not as good as the first time I had gone. read more

My wife and I went there the day after the grand opening and it was such an amazing experience. As Indians, we are fairly picky about our Indian food and this was some of the best that we have tried anywhere! The drinks were awesome - I had the Old Fashioned which was fantastic and my wife had the Lassi which she raved about. The decor was elegant and clean and the staff were all really friendly. I want to bring the rest of my family and friends here as well! read more

The restaurant is really beautiful. Compared to most Indian restaurants which are dark and a bit outdated, this restaurant was bright and airy. We went on a Sunday evening and it wasn't crowded but it had a good atmosphere going. The service was attentive and very friendly. We had a great waitress who educated us on the menu and even told us that we had ordered too much for our group of four. The other service staff were very friendly also being very prompt in refilling water glasses, bringing us new plates etc. Finally the food: I thought it was very good but there were some unfamiliar flavors. Maybe because it was more "fusion" but some of the curries weren't what i was expecting but nevertheless very tasty. Despite it being a more "upscale" Indian restaurant, i thought it had great value for the portions were fairly comparable to most other Indian restaurants. I usually frequent India House on Grand but this will be a new favorite to go to now! read more

Soft opening but my wife & i were really impressed. Attentive service, creative menu, and delicious food. The indian food scene is lacking in chicago but this restaurant will change that. Whoever did the spices on the capsicum curry knocked it out of the park. Great place and we will be coming back, especially once they have a full bar read more

Loved the cuisine first. Delightful and tasty morsels of food served in a cozy atmosphere that makes it lovely for an intimate conversation. Great place to bring a date and of course the cocktails were just divine! The Tintin wall pictures deserve a special mention as that brought about a feeling of nostalgia and happiness! My wife and I will definitely partake again! read more

Top notch on flavors, great vibe. Every curry tasted unique. Will definitely come back..

Vajra - Chicken piece in vegetable korma - Himalayan/Nepalese Near Me - Chicago, Illinois

Best Indian restaurant in Chicago that I've been to. Great palak paneer, naan. Dal makhani was a slightly different style than I expected but good. Desert kulfi was fantastic. I would get the Mango Lassi without alcohol in retrospect. read more

Visited VAJRA for the second time in less than two weeks during their soft opening. I wad even more impressed with everything the second time around. From the moment you walk in the service is friendly, prompt and professional. However the food is the highlight by far. I dined with 2 other people ( 2 of us vegan) and we did not leave one bite from the seven dishes we ordered. The roti was warm and flavorful and all the traditional dishes did not disappoint. The manager could not have been nicer. Love the ambiance and can't wait to go back now that they will have their liquor license to try their cocktails. We can't wait to go back period. A great great addition to West Town. Bravo. read more

Great food and drink. I love this place. It's my favorite Indian restaurant in Chicago

Received notice from Yelp regarding the opening of a new restaurant serving Nepalese/Indian/Himalayan cuisine. Because of its ties to Cumin Restaurant (a personal favorite), my wife and I stopped by for dinner last night, and we were totally impressed. The Vajra's location in a low-density area makes street-parking convenient and simple. The interior is clean and well-designed, from the elegant tables to the stylish dinnerware. The ambience, clientele and noise-level was very comfortable. Service was excellent overall. Our server was polite and knowledgeable of Nepalese menu dishes, and made several recommendations, which we appreciated. Unfortunately, I failed to take note of his name. I do recall one very pleasant member of management , Bipul (hope I got that right), who was so nice in describing many of the menu items as well as several future items. As for the food, we were highly impressed. Having spent some time in the Himalayan area (Nepal, Tibet and North India), we were fairly familiar with a few of the dishes. And we were not disappointed with anything we tried. We only wished that we'd been able to try many more. For that reason, we will be returning. And, I might add, prices were more than reasonable. read more

My husband and I have been to Vajra twice so far and we're a fan! First time was close to when they first opened, we stopped in here with another couple and at that time they didn't have their liquor license yet so it was byob. We brought a couple of bottles of wine and it was nice that they didn't have a corkage fee. They also had some really unique mock tails that the table enjoyed too. We ordered a couple of different dishes for the table to share and some of my favorites were-samosa chaat, the paneer stuffed capsicum, and the garlic naan. The second time we came they had their liquor license and we were able to try some cocktails, I think the cocktails are a little overpriced but they were good. My sister and I split the fish which was very good and the momos which were definitely a favorite too! My husband enjoyed the creamy cashew paneer curry. Some things I wouldn't order again are the saag paneer and the biryani. Also wish their spice level was a bit higher, we asked for spicy and it wasn't very spicy at all. Overall, we'll definitely be back again and hoping they add new items to the menu. read more

My family and I ordered food from vajra a few weeks ago, and it was exquisite. My sister and I are both vegetarian; we were able to find many vegetarian meals that were appealing. The dishes I recommend are the chana masala chickpea curry, which was very flavorful, the samosa chaat, a vegetarian deconstructed samosa dish, and the saag paneer, which is creamed spinach, and that was very rich. Just note that Vajra does not offer dine-in. read more

This was actually my first time trying Indian food and I have to say I am extremely happy with it! The atmosphere was very busy but relaxed. All of the food came out in a timely manner. We ordered DUCK CHHOELA, PANEER STUFFED CAPSICUM, Cashew Shahi Korma and everything was so flavorful. The service was great although at times felt a little awkward for us. I don't have any complaints! Make sure you BYOB if you go because they only serve cocktails which we weren't aware of so we made a quick run to the liquor store before ordering. read more

I can't do 4.5 so 4. Everything was 5 star except the mushroom curry. Awesome food. Must try !

Every dish here seems to be well thought out and tastes great. Every main course has enough food for 2 (but it's better to order more and have leftovers). I have yet to dine in, but all the food seems to withstand the travel home. I don't know if this is the best or most authentic Indian restaurant Chicago has to offer, but it's definitely worth a try and in my opinion is worthy of multiple (routine) visits. read more

Vajra is a truly special place. They have created an experience that is, to my mind, unmatched at their price point in Chicago. The front of the house staff are remarkably warm, professional, and attentive- its quite clear they all enjoy their work and the food they help to create. We were just delighted by the service. The food, though it seems hard to imagine, even outshined the brilliant waitstaff. The curries are layered in complexity which I've not tasted elsewhere, the paneer was divine, and the naan was excellent. Together, they comprised a truly tremendous meal. Remarkably, they have an equally astounding cocktail menu- gourmet drinks which rival some truly amazing cocktail-focused lounges such as The Aviary. I high recommend you explore the offerings of the bar when you go. Vajra joins a rarified group of restaurants who strive for excellence in every regard and who achieve it. We will be back! read more

We celebrated my husband's birthday with family members and from the beginning when we walked into Vajra we were warmly greeted by The Manager and staff and were given absolutely wonderful attentive service with the finest of details. The ambience is modern and upscale. We each started with a Specialty cocktail which were all extremely elegant and tasty, followed by several of the dishes we shared including tikka masala, prawn curry, samosas and garlic naan. The food, ambience and service were outstanding and all of us agreed we will be back and highly recommended experiencing Vajra!! read more

Had takeout and it was honestly some of the best Indian food I have ever had. Everything was hot surprisingly since it was delivered by grub hub. I don't expect much from take out but it got here so quickly and it was HOT. So it was a pleasant surprise! The Lamb Vindaloo was fantastic although I do wish it was spicier (personal preference). Or at least have a spicier option! The naan was buttery and garlicky and delicious. The basmati rice was cooked so nicely and not even the slightest bit starchy. And the samosa was also very delicious. And the cucumber sauce was super refreshing. I had a side order of pickles and I can't even pin what the floral flavor is in it but omg so good. Unlike anything I have ever had. A big thank you to the staff for the delicious meal. I will be ordering many more times from this wonderful place! read more
