I finally made it to Himalayan Sherpa Kitchen and cant recommend enough this place. We ordered Momo with chicken. The sauce is just wonderful and Momo tastes very fresh and juicy. We went on to order a variety of curies with family style/sampler like with chicken. All tasted great and fresh. It was very flavorful and chicken in one of the curries was so tender and flavored inside out. We ordered garlic and regular nuns. They were crispy outside and chewy inside. Also wonderful. The chai we ordered was rich in its flavor. The server was very nice and she had a wonderful smile. We can request how spicy dishes should be and we requested mild and that was perfect. I will go back for sure and can't say enough good things about our experience at the same time, I kind of want to keep it hidden. read more

Great spot! I'm new to nepalese food but the flavors were amazing! The restaurant was open & I could watch the employees rolling the dumplings fresh in the corner of the restaurant. The dumplings with the chutney was to die for with the mix of spice, ginger, rich flavor. The 9 bean curry was the best recommendation from the server. 2 words. Chicken Chili. If you're a fan of spicy chicken, look no further than the chicken chili here - no need to ask for it spicy as it comes with the perfect amount of spice by default (assuming you can handle some heat). I've tried a number of their other dishes and they're all good but the chicken chili is definitely a staple. They also have a variety of Himalayan dishes and many South Asian dishes you're probably familiar with. To cap it all off, the staff here is super friendly and the atmosphere is quite nice...appropriate for a casual lunch or a nicer dinner or whatever you're looking for. What an amazing experience at Himalayan Sherpa Kitchen!! My boyfriend and I went on a Sunday at 4PM and were seated quickly as the restaurant was quite empty! We did notice that there were lots of takeout orders though. We ordered a couple things to try ! Samosas & Chutney: 8.5/10 I love how large the samosas were, amazing portion size compared to previous places I've been to. The texture and crunchiness was really enjoyable! The filling was very well seasoned and the chutney was a perfect pairing. Tibetan Delight: 7.8/10 The portions here are super generous. The dough was not as crunchy as the samosas but still very delicious. The filling was good with a nice ginger taste. The sauce was yogurt-y and didn't have too much flavor but the combination of the two was very good. Mango Lassi: 8.5/10 I don't have much experience with lassi but I'd definitely order this drink again. So creamy and not overly sweet. I'd definitely recommend this. Chili Momos: 8/10 The sauce is addictively spicy! The Momos were a bit hard on the outside but the filling was so flavorful! I'm not sure if they were fried or pan seared but they could have been cooked a little less. Very tasty nonetheless. Butter Chicken: 8.5/10 The chicken is so tender and the sauce is so fresh, not too overpowered with cream! It was such a delicious bite with the garlic naan. Garlic Naan: 8.9/10 Chewy, flakey , flavorful. The perfect texture and you couldn't ask for better naan. Chicken Tikka: 9.1/10 With white meat, I typically expect it to be dry. I was so impressed with this dish and didn't expect to like it so much. The tenderness, the juiciness. The addition of the lemon is genius and I love the charred onions and lettuce underneath. It makes for the perfect bite when paired with the naan. I knew this dish was special when I kept going back for more bites! The ambiance was relaxing and calm! Ok WOAH is all I need to say. Just kidding, there's more, but my initial reaction explains how I much I loved this place. My hangover craving told me I NEEDED indian food (anyone else suffer from these?) and so I went searching on Door Dash and found Himalayan Kitchen. I was in between the chicken and lamb curry but ended up ordering the lamb and I am SO glad that I did. I also ordered "Kwati Ideal Protein" which is essentially a curry with nine different beans with the most amazing spices. I loved every single part of it. We stoped in while we were in the area. The interior is clean and the ambiance is nice. We started off the the samosas. They were delicious. Unfortunately, they don't have the green sauce. Though this is a two star review, it was for take out and I'd like to go back to see if the experience is better in house. Because the menu is amazing and contains so many dishes that can't be found anywhere else, I WANT it to be great and will give it another chance to be. We ordered the Chitwan Ko Taas and unfortunately they forgot half the dish - when we got home the only thing there was the meat and puffed rice. No soybeans, no salad, no spicy sauce. The meat was very flavorful but a little overcooked and the rice was crunchy rather than puffy. The other dish, the C-Momo, came unscathed except it was ordered veg and we received chicken. It was incredibly spicy (in a good way). I caution you to thoroughly check your bag if you order from here - although checking the bag wouldn't have shown that the veg order was actually meat. read more

The sauce was outstanding so we ordered more! So was the paratha and garlic naan. I'd eat that every day. Some friends and I went and dined in recently and had a great experience. Previously I had only ordered delivery, but the food is freshest straight from the kitchen! We had a mix of Indian and Nepalese menu items, and it all was delicious! Note for wine drinkers, goosefoot has a wine shop across the street and you can byo by paying a $5 corkage. I feel so blessed to be able to try so many different cuisines here in Chicago! We were tired of pizza, wings, burgers, and sandwiches so we looked far and wide on Yelp and landed on Himalayan Sherpa Kitchen. This place had a huge menu and a fusion of Indian, Nepalese, and Himalayan food. Everything sounded delicious, so it took us like 20 minutes to decide what to order for take out. We decided to order the Chicken Tikka Masala, which came with a side of rice. The Chicken Tikka Masala was less tomatoey than what I'm used to from other Indian restaurants, however, it was very delicious and creamy! Probably one of my favorites! The Chicken Momo Dumplings were also wonderful! The order came with 9 dumplings, and they were each pretty large! The sauce that came along with the dumpling was great as well (I think it's curry based). read more

The food was mediocre and that's being generous. The garlic naan was doughy the chicken tikka masala and butter chicken were both a strange color and had very little flavor. Some friends and I ordered for delivery from this restaurant simply because they offered it and we felt like eating something different. We were so delighted to receive our delicious meals and kinda sad we couldn't finish everything! We ordered garlic naan (delicious and soft, even still nice and warm, great delivery service!), biyriani, momo (delish, especially with the dipping sauce!), and chicken tikka masala. Our of the three mains, I think the tikka masala won out, we forced ourselves to finish the momo (we ordered two plates) and the biryani was soooo tasty and SPICY!!! We had high hopes for this place given the reviews. Service is very friendly and there's lots of seating, along with an in-house bar. Restaurant is clean and pleasant. Maybe we ordered the wrong thing? We both got the vegetarian thakali (assorted dishes with rice), along with garlic naan and mango lassi. The naan, lassi, and rice pudding were the high points of the meal. The vegetable & bean dishes were all kind of watery and "meh." Everything needed more salt/spice. We really liked this place. It has Nepalese dishes and standard Indian food. We ordered white rice, Poleko Masu (Goat), Ghundruk ko Achaar, C Momo, and Thenthuk. Poleko Masu tasted like charred goat. Hearty. Not too seasoned. Ghundruk was a lightly pickled and diced eggplant. The C'momo was very spicy curry type dumpling dish. Thenthuk was a noodle soup with whiteish clear broth. Oh man, I am sad to report we had a TERRIBLE take-out experience from here. I had never tried it and was excited to, but we won't be returning. From the very long, very black hair in our rice (honestly my husband wanted to throw all the food out at that point but I felt bad tossing $90 of take out so we promptly chucked the rice and continued on) to the very dry and tasteless chicken tikka masala (I guess the chicken is cooked separately, then cut up and added to the sauce?), this meal was a miss. We tried the chili momo and the momos themselves had no flavor inside but were covered in what tasted like straight sambal oelek - like, just straight chili sauce. SO SPICY. Those were the only things with any flavor and the flavor just wasn't good. I feel bad giving such a poor rating but we liked nothing from here. Even the kheer, which I think is hard to mess up, was terrible. We threw most of this food out which made me sad but we couldn't make ourselves eat it. There are dozens of other places to get decent Indian food, I would not recommend this place. read more

The picture on the menu clearly did not match what we received. For 18 dollars the dish was small and the meat was very dry. This spot is great. I thought about the garlic naan and creamy chicken korma so many times while they were closed during the earlier covid weeks. So glad to see they're open for delivery again! I've only done pick-up from here, so I can't comment on the dining-in experience. They're quite quick to prep food, and are always so friendly when I come to pick up. But the main thing is: chicken korma and garlic naan for life!!! The chicken is so tender, and the naan is so fresh. Himalayan Sherpa is a cute getaway from the noisy city into a restaurant with a calm vibe and food from the Himalayas. You have to start with an order of momos (dumplings) they are like little cloud balls filled with flavor. The highlight has to be their butter chicken I even asked for vegetarian paneer (cheese) instead of chicken and they were more than happy to accommodate. Garlic naan is crispy and thinner than your average naan which we loved! The staff makes you feel welcome. The Thakali Bhojan is the next thing I'd like to try at the restaurant. The Thakali Bhojan looks so traditional and filled with a variety dishes all in one it's definitely a plate for food photography! I'll definitely be back. read more

**If you are new to or enjoy Indian food, it's worth trying. A few months back I'm scooting down Lawrence taking note of the businesses that have come and gone. Seeing the name of this restaurant I was curious so peeked my head in to see their menu. The ambrosial scent of spices in the air struck a nerve and started to create beads of excitement on my nose. This happens whenever I walk into a family home and smell the sweet spices used in Indian cooking. I placed an order immediately after. Mostly momos. Momos are handmade steamed dumplings. Their origins from parts of India, Tibet and Nepal. I ordered two kinds. Minced chicken and their C'momo. The latter being your choice of momo ingredients (veg, chicken or mixed) in a hot & spicy sauce with onions, diced tomatoes and green peppers. I requested they use a mix of veg and chicken dumplings. This entree can be spicy or extra... Just do regular if you can't handle spice. Not joking. I can handle spice and found it too spicy but yummy tasty. I took bites in-between long cool down periods. My mouth was on FIRE!. An order of raita or some ice cream can help. Recently decided to give them another go wanting to try typical Indian food staples. Lamb curry, lamb biryani, butter chicken and some paratha (bread) for dipping. Indian food will be regionally different in tastes because the typical Indian dishes that most Americans are familiar with are not served throughout India. Take biriyani for instance. There are more than fourteen varieties. The difference being in aromatics, softness of rice, meats, etc. Given that this is a Himalayan Indian restaurant, their flavors will be subtly different than the butter chicken from your local takeout. That being said, the food smelled nice and I think most people trying this for the first time will be appreciative. For us, it was lacking in flavors and the meats were not given ample time to soften. Lamb when prepared quickly will seize and be tough. Shared the food with family. Eeesh. All I got were gripes and complaints. I thought it was decent except for the high price tags. Since vaccinations are up and lockdowns seem to be phasing out, if they offer an indoor buffet, I'd happily check them out. Upon further consideration. Due to the pandemic and possibly reduced purchases by customers. I would imagine there is much "down time." It would be great to check them out when they are in full swing and back on top of their game. read more

I gave it 4 instead of 5 stars because some of the tablecloths still had stains on it, so we asked to sit at tables with paper covers instead. My friend and I had a really nice dinner here last night! The service was friendly and SORT OF helpful. I think our server was afraid to recommend anything specific so he sort of just recommended everything. We landed on the vegetable dumplings to start. We both really liked these. The flavor was really good and the sauce they came with was fantastic. I think my friend now wants to put it on everything! For our mains we wanted to try things from the Nepalese side of the menu since neither of us was familiar with the cuisine. We shared the Aaloo tama bodi curry, the description of which doesn't do it justice. It's fairly hearty due to the black-eyed peas and had a nice, rich flavor. We also got the Chaw ko Tarkari with muttor, which neihter of us had had before and though found under the "Special Indian Veg" section was described as having "traditional Nepalese herbs." This was good as well, and lighter than the other dish. Everything was very flavorful without being spicy in the way many think of the Indian cuisine typically served around Chicago.
