Rude af. Never again. Ruined our expensive delivery meal by leaving a dinner out then being rude about it. Nope.

This was pretty phenomenal Indian food for such a low key place. I would absolutely recommend it to anyone! We came for restaurant week and left with enough food for two more whole meals. It seems unassuming from the outside, but please don't let that deter you because the service was friendly and the food was delicious. Between the two of us we spent 60 dollars (again keep in mind this is north side restaurant week pricing) and we had the chicken tikki masala, chicken vindaloo, chicken madras, basmati rice, garlic naan, chicken soup, rice pudding, and gulab jamun. I have zero complaints about anything! The chicken all ranged in spice level so make sure you're paying attention to that. I will say the soup was very very spicy but if you're not afraid of that it was delicious. They offer carryout as well and I will definitely be back! read more

Great comfort food, the lunch special is a steal for $20. I really enjoyed the tamarind sauce with the hot bread, it almost tasted like syrup on a waffle in the best way. (No pictures because my hands got too sticky lol.) I liked the salad dressing a lot, and the entree portions (I picked Saag Paneer and a black lentil dish) were generous. It was my 56th birthday today and I very much wanted to break my diet and enjoy some Indian cuisine (let's hope my kidneys will go easy on me). I tried to order through The Little India's website... for some reason it wasn't letting me complete the order. So, I walked over and ordered the good ol' fashioned way; waited about 15 minutes; walked home and started to feast! Raita, Katchcumber Salad, Malai Kofta, Veggie Korma, Plain Rice, Garlic Naan, Sweet Potato Custard and a plain Lassi were included in my grand haul. They were all delicious! The restaurant's ambience and the service were not too bad. The portion sizes were also not an issue but the quality of the food items served were bad, VERY bad. Only the naan bread tasted like it was freshly made. Everything else in the veggie combo tasted like they were stir fried straight out of a frozen bag of ingredients. I wouldn't recommend this restaurant for a vegetarian seeking Indian food. The appearance of spinach in the palak paneer was bad with too many undercooked "stems". I've never thought someone could fail in cooking Palak Paneer but the chef at "The Little India" proved me wrong today! read more

My first time eating Indian food! We went to the little india restaurant and had a great lunch! #TBT Our first time experiencing Indian food was last year in October. We were very fortunate to have our meal at the Little India Restaurant on Bryn Mawr. We had the chef's special lunch which was $9 per person ( on weekdays) and there was a ton of delicious food. My wife is very fussy food wise. She lives in Des Plaines and drives here twice a month to eat here. It is her favorite Indian restaurant in the whole city (as far as she knows) and we live close to a street full of Indian restaurants (Devon.) I also greatly enjoy their food. Still love this place. But the last time I got the veggie combo, they threw in some dal makhani. I did not ask for it, but it made the veggie combo complete and much more well rounded. A veggie combo needs some dal! And the dal makhani here is possibly their best dish. The spinach is great too. The mixed veg I could do without. What would make this place 5 stars would be adding dal to the combo (increased price would be understandable) or allowing for substitutions for similarly priced items. Not good. I see people saying it's their favorite Indian food and I feel bad for them. Really low on flavor. There are so many better options. No rice with the entrees. Samosa sauces are unnecessarily hot but at least they have flavor. Onion naan was good. read more

Any time I have wanted some really good Indian food, it was always understood that Devon Avenue was the location to go. While riding the Red Line towards Rogers Park, I noticed Little India and made a note to myself to see what they had on their menu that would lure me there instead of me going to Devon Avenue. Mango lassi. Samosas. Chana masala. Bhatura. The samosas were worthy of an extra purchase, as I often eat them for breakfast. The chana masala came in a hearty gravy, not like the thick gravy you get in South Indian chana masala. The bhatura was perfect with the chana masala. And I got the food spicy the way that I like it. I am more conscious of price when the quality of the food lacks. At The Little India, the prices are comparable to what you get at any of the eateries along the Devon Avenue stretch. I have been the the restaurant three times to date, and I see in my crystal ball that I will return several more times. read more

DON'T BE FOOLED by the bad ratings! I know good quality food and spices (I'm Puerto Rican!). This was the best hole in the wall Indian food I've found in Chicago! The prices were insanely good, as well as the decent portions. An older gentleman was both the server and the cashier. He made me feel incredibly welcomed with friendly service and a smile. I reviewed this restaurant more than a year ago and gave it a bad review because I felt that the quality of food had slipped significantly. I never ate at the restaurant because service there was always outrageously slow. The wife and I ordered delivery often and the quality gradually declined to the point where we stopped ordering it; hence the bad review. Naan was burnt, etc. We recently gave this restaurant another try for delivery and it was good. The wife had chana masala and I had chicken vindaloo. Both were good. The vegetable samosas were also good. The first time we ordered from here, it was probably 4-5 stars. Now it's back to three after a decline. I hope it continues to improve. read more

Food sucks. Not worth your money. Beef biryani was bad and plain. They've forgot my garlic naan and refused to deliver again because it was just a naan. Chicken makhani was below average. Overall disappointed... I can get way better indian food with same amount of money. read more

We got the vegetable samosas, malai kofta, Chana masala, palak paneer, plain rice, rice with peas, plain naan, and garlic naan for take-out. One rice, 2 entrees, and one naan would have been more than enough for 3 adults and a child. All of it was delicious, though! read more

Yay, an excuse to write another bad review! The place IS always empty, which worried me, but it had some cool-sounding dishes that i haven't had before. Overall, i would say I've liked what I've had (mutter paneer, some chaats i forget the names of, and a couple of other things) but it does come across as kind of low-quality. I'm usually fine with that, but it's kind of expensive for ethnic fast food. My main problem is with the service. Last time i tried ordering carry out half an hour before closing. Having worked as a cook, i get that might ruin your hope of leaving early, but dude on the phone was rude as F while saying x,y,z aren't available anymore. I get that they probably just want to microwave or ladle out whatever they have already prepared, but 1) you are open and presumably want customers, and 2) i don't think this directly affects you, guy on the phone. Anyway, put me off the place. Girl at the desk one time was nice. read more

We were at Devon street for Indian Grocery shopping. For dinner, I thought to go away from the Devon street crowd and parking problem. I searched online and went to this restaurant based on good rating. We had worst experience there. It was smelling bad inside. We thought of leaving from there but we stayed as we were tired. Ah, so disappointing. Despite a really great - if a little too technical - online ordering website, there were many ordering FAILS. First, you have to click how many times on the food item you want? I didn't click enough and a few of my things were not delivered. The food that was delivered . . . didn't sit that well. Too much ghee? Overcooked? Whatever it was . . . I never even had so much as a stomachache when I was ACTUALLY in Delhi, so this was surprising. My comely companion suffered worse than I did. So, despite the charming owner/waitstaff . . . Have to knock them down a couple of stars as the last two times we have ordered from here there have been problems. The first was the food was skimpier then usual, which was sad because leftovers reheat so well. Then the second time we had ordered around 8pm hoping to be eating by 9. Not asking too much by any means on a weekday. Then at 9:20pm I received a call that they would be unable to deliver the food. Needless to say I was fairly upset that I wasn't told earlier, as I could have planned an alternative. If this place wasn't my favorite Indian, I'd be giving them 2 stars for sure. Solid Indian food--slight overpriced, but solid. This family owned, BYOB, sweet-as-hell staffed, neighborly type tiny-ass restaurant deserves more cred than is given; it's drawback is that it's off the beaten' path. But, make way folks. Tried them again last night (second time in like 3 weeks or so). Again it was excellent. Really pleased that we've got viable Indian take out again. This place was an awesome Indian place. Don't judge a book by its cover, doesn't look like it will be good from the outside or by lack of customers but the food was amazing, they didn't skimp on it...I got way more than I could eat in one sitting. Chi tea was good if you like it on the less sweet side. Price is decent for how much you get put of it. I recommend it completely! 5 stars! And conveniently located next to the Amtrak train and the shoreline :) Obviously if you're scared to try something new then get something simple that provides chicken. This place was fine. I'll order again to see if they had an off night, but in general, it was meh. I ordered the veggie jalfrazie and veggie samosas. I ordered the jalfrazie instead of the aloo gobi b.c it said the former was spicy. But while flavorful, it was not spicy in the least. So for you mild food lovers out there, that's a good bet. The basmati rice was also dry and flavorless to the point of being inedible. The largest issue I had with the dish, however, was that I dug in within 5 min or it arriving and I still had cold pieces in the dish, which indicates to me that the vegetables were more frozen than "seasonal" as described. The samosas were good and my dining companion said their dish was fine. So not the best, but not the worst. I'm open to trying a different dish next time to see if it is better. read more

Always thought of trying this .... and when i tried i was cursing my stars. So bad was the food and service that i almost thought of not paying them.What they are charging for the kind of being provided is stupidity. The Pakora's were so oily that i had to use paper napkins to remove oil before eating them. Tandoori chicken was cold and under cooked. Options are very less not sure why they call them buffet. Could not find any flavor. the only good thing was naan and water. Because that was the best combo i had from the available choices other best thing if you want to learn how to make food look good with food color. I will not be going back even if they provide me with free food. This place is a disgrace to Indian food. read more

We live in the neighborhood and eat at The Little India often. I can't say enough positive things about this place. Most importantly though, I'd like to talk about the Palak Paneer. Oh man the Palak Paneer. Get the Palak Paneer. And then tell your friends to get the Palak Paneer. And then your friends will love you forever. You're welcome. Seriously though, the food here is always delicious, and I can't believe how fast it comes out. Anytime we come here, the owner is always so nice and welcoming, and the service he provides along with his staff is top notch. I order lunch from here a few times a month. I love their lunch special, where you can choose a chicken dish and a vegetarian dish. It has allowed me to try various combinations. I also like the chicken biryani lunch special. It is enough for two. Tasty ! My only complaint would be that the raita is often hot or miss. Sometimes it is very soupy and sometimes it is like yogurt, which is how I like it. Delivery has always been quick and accurate. I LOVE THIS PLACE!! I both eat in and order delivery. The restaurant is small, but always clean. Everything I've ever ordered is very good. I order the Rogan Josh quite frequently. It's not only delicious, it has just the right amount of heat! The chicken tikka masala, chicken makhani and tandoori chicken are also very good! I always leave room for dessert too. The rasmalai and gulab jamun are my favorites! The only reason I am giving 4 instead of 5 stars...Little India, I hope you're paying attention...they NEVER take my request for an extra large green sauce, seriously!! I was devastated when I got my delivery today and my one tiny container of green sauce had spilled in the bag. I had no sauce for my samosas! Plus, I use it on almost everything else as well.
