So pleasantly surprised! I was craving Indian food and saw that Indian Clay Pot was nearby, so I decided to give it a try. It arrived quickly and was packaged up SO nicely! Everything was still hot by the time it arrived. I went with chicken ticka masala. The chicken is slow cooked in the most delicious and flavorful sauce. The portions were really big and they did not skimp on the chicken. I got the garlic naan to dip in the leftover sauce which was so yummy. Another favorite South Indian restaurant in chicago. Kerala style cuisine. Been coming here since before Covid (their next door location)... the taste of the food has been constantly delicious since! Mr Sai the owner is really very friendly and always comes to check on you. The waitstaff are very good at recommending on what you should try. Everything is a must try you will never regret!... especially the herb rice and the herb tea is my favorite! There are so much of flavor authentic to the cuisine and the dish style and you can see the fresh herbs used in the dishes (curry leaves, red chilis, chat masala) Currently seating might a little limited as they are trying expand the restaurant with next door. Well, the food here was very tasty though the servings were small. Servers were friendly but not well trained. The real drawback was the smell of sewage that wafed through the air periodically. Not sure what the problem was but was unacceptable. Hopefully, the problem has been resolved. I wish them well and will look for improvements. I'll review again once I dine there again. read more

First time trying Indian food, and this place did not disappoint! The Mango Lassi was delicious, the Butter Chicken could use a bit more spice, and the Paneer Tikka Masala was fantastic. The Chicken Biryani had a great flavor, and the garlic bread was tasty, just wish there was a bit more of it. Great variety and definitely worth trying! read more

Indian Clay Pot has become one of my new favorites for #indian in #Chicago. While Indian food is not new to me, I was not quite familiar with southern Indian style . While it appeared to be primarily a carry out business , if you get a chance to eat there, you'll have a wonderful time. The service is friendly and very accommodating. Some recommendations include the Manchurian Gobi (cauliflower), paneer, and of course butter chicken!! We got two types of naan and paratha which. We happened to go on a very cold day, so there weren't quite as many folks there, but think it's probably a fun place during better weather! read more

DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY HERE! I NEVER leave bad reviews, but Indian Clay Pot has earned the exception. 1) The food is not even remotely good. The Kadai chicken was bland and barely edible. The naan was soggy and tasted like they pulled it out of yesterday's garbage. And somehow they manage to make plain basmati rice taste horrible! 2) The portions are tiny for what you're paying. 3) It took 2 hours for them to deliver it (over an hour late), despite only being 2 miles away (15 min drive). The order was supposedly picked up at 7:15 but not delivered to me until 8:20. They have their own delivery, so my guess is they try to save money by taking all the orders at once. As if the subpar food wasn't enough, thanks for delivering it cold and stale! There are too many good restaurants on Devon to patronize, don't waste your hard earned money on this garbage! read more

I was excited that they had clearly marked gf and vegan items on their menu, but that's where the excitement ended. Don't count on the patio being open. I made that mistake, thinking that the patio would be open on this gorgeous late afternoon (mainly because I'm trying to avoid getting covid again). Unfortunately, no patio--seating inside only, in a very tiny space with the world's most uncomfortable chairs. Spice level? I asked for medium-high, but as far as I could tell, the only "spice" was salt--way too much salt in almost everything but sadly, very little heat. (I call that "white people spice level" and yes, I am a white people but one who really digs spicy food). The chicken was dry, overcooked, and the lamb was dry, overcooked, and salty--more in line with jerky. :-( Service? Well, I was seated. And food was brought to me. Then the check. And that's how service went (As a former waitress in a prior life, I have reasonable expectations of my servers. This was the very bare minimum.) The server who took my order tried to get me to order naan with my meal. I told her I would love to, but there were no gf options--she said yes, and pointed to the first option, clearly labeled "vegan." Ummmm.......... All in all, it was... edible. Adequate. Ordered a delivery from Indian Claypot. Chilli Gobi: 4/5 Vegetable Biryani: 3.5/5 Good big portions and well packed. Biryani was bit Curryish taste. I was expecting more like traditional Dum Biryani taste but it's slightly more of curry mixed taste. It came with Raita and mango pickle. Chilli Gobi was Spicy and Very tasty. My wife gives ICP a 4-* as many many others do as well. The spiced cauliflower appetizer was A-mazing, a not miss for sure! The culinary highlight for us all! I, however, found my chosen entree, a gravy-based lamb dish, visually un-appealing, gelatinous in consistency, and generally not very tasty. The service was mediocre. Food dropped off and then we never heard from our servers again until they dropped off the bill. So funny how that works. :-| However, there were at least 25% of the seats filled by people who may have grown up with this cuisine so what do I know? I'm from Nebraska, ask me about steaks! I do believe had I chosen a spicy, not gravy, selection the outcome would have been far different. I will return and encourage you to try ICP as my opinion was the minority in my group. Also, you should know the take-out and deliver was going non-stop, incredible volume of people coming and going. It was nearly a FT role for one person on that Friday night. The service was attentive, Harsha kept checking on our large group. We had a few appetizers gobi Manchuria, samosas and Gobi65. This used to be one of the best Indian restaurants on the north side. Unfortunately, it's really fallen off in the last few months. Despite price increases, they have really been cheating out on the ingredients. Take out orders of chicken tikka masala with four pieces of chicken. Vegetarian orders with nothing but frozen vegetables and broccoli stalks. I wish they would go back to the way they used to be. It's been disappointing. We got takeout from there very frequently. All the reviews are true. The food here is so good! I'm so glad this Indian spot replaced the not so great restaurant previously in this space. The service is quick and the staff is so nice. We sat at a table for two by the front door and during our meal I noticed a steady flow of more customers-take out, delivery, and eat in. High demand! My husband and I ordered the butter naan, chicken tikka masala, chicken curry, and basmati rice. The tikka masala was to. die. for. I wish we ordered 2 plates and another to take home. The curry was great but I asked for medium spiced and it was just a bit too spicy for me. And the butter naan - the best! I foresee my husband and I going here a lot. We live very close! Overall: Not the best Indian in the world, but Indian Clay Pot more than gets the job done. Bar none to other options in the area. The good: The dishes were rich and flavorful. We had a large group so we were able to try a variety of different platters, and none of them disappointed. The paneer was rich and thick, the butter chicken was tender, and the clay pot chicken spicy and juicy. The naan was cooked to perfection as well and was a great complement to the dishes. Plus it was BYOB. The not-so-good: For the amount you pay, the food quantity is disappointing. If I'm paying $12-$15 for an entree, it should be more than 3-4 scoops worth. Didn't include rice or naan either. Which would've been fine if it was half the price. Made sharing difficult among our big group. The atmosphere has a somewhat tacky vibe. Only competing with one other Indian restaurant in the general vicinity, I think Indian Clay Pot is on to something! It's located just slightly removed from right under the Irving Park brown line stop, which has great foot traffic but can be really hard to see if you're driving. It's a teeny tiny store front, but don't let that deter you. Service was absolutely fantastic. They genuinely wanted us to love everything, and it shows when the chef comes around to all of the tables to ask for feedback. Everything from the veggie samosas with its two beautiful sauces and presentation, to the namesake clay pot chicken with its rich, spicy coconut sauce, to the chunky tomato tikka masala were spot on. Yes, rice and naan cost an extra $3 each on the side, but I haven't been to a single Indian restaurant outside of Devon Ave that includes it so I'm not complaining. I am a very snooty person when it comes to Indian food in Chi town, but this place is amazing. The food is slightly expensive but on point. I got the masala dosa (a bit peeved that the potato masala inside is such less quantity), the Sambar, white chutney and the red chutney ( Indian red peppers and ginger) were pretty baller! They gave me extra chutney when I asked for it. My friend got Gongura lamb upon my advice and it was wonderfully made. Gongura is a leafy vegetable with a sour taste that goes well with meats like lamb, chicken, beef and shrimp. This is a popular veggie mostly available in Southern parts of india. Delicious food, well made na'an, but really slow serivce. I was seated quickly when I arrived, they have both an indoor and a very cute outdoor patio for seating. BYOB which is fantastic given all the breweries just down the street from the establishment! They have many both vegetarian and vegetarian offerings with sides such as rice and naan sold separately from main dishes. For its namesake I got the clay pot lamb dish which had a full nonnspicy flavor blend with coconut, as well as well stewed pieces of lamb and potato. This paired perfectly with their delicious naans, which I got two to dip into the curry-like stew. The food and offerings are delicious and well priced, but I gave 4 stars as the waiting staff left me alone for almost 20-30 minutes when I first arrived even though I knew my order, and it took an extra 30 minutes for my one person order to come out. Solid Indian food in the North Center neighborhood. We have tried a bunch of their vegetarian options and they have all been tasty. Surprisingly their breads miss the mark - the Naans were not soft/puffy and tend to be chewy and the rotis usually were dry. The chicken tikka masala had a good amount of chicken in this time which was great, but it was surprisingly spicier than the last time we ordered. My 3 year old can't handle any spice right now, so she could only eat the rice and naan.
