Moderately priced and decent South Asian food option on the east side of Lincoln Park/Lakeview. We went on a random weekday and there were only a few customer including us. In terms of the staples, the butter chicken, the biriryani, and the paneer are all pretty decent and will fit your needs if you're craving any of those dishes. The only thing that was sort of lacking were the momos. We got the fried ones and I think that it was too doughy/too much fried skin to get through to thoroughly enjoy the dish. What a cute place! There is so much room and definitely a place where you eat more family style. They have Nepalese and Indian food - I would definitely recommend getting some momos along with whatever you get. They are SO yummy. I live in a small foodie town so I enjoy it when I get to a big foodie city. I am visiting my daughter in Chicago and the first day here she recommended Gorkha Kitchen for lunch. There are so many small neighborhood restaurants here but she promised me this is one of the best (it's in Lakeview). The vibe was laid back with the owners being very welcoming. I ordered the Chicken Madras and she ordered the Lamb Korma and needed it gluten free, which isn't always easy to navigate. Surprisingly, they were on top of it all and answered all her questions with ease. The real surprise was the food! My Madras was superb, a perfect mix of spicy and savory. The homemade naan was fantastic, light and buttery. She said her Korma was great....as always! The servings were a healthy size so I continued my feast a few hours later in her condo. Omg I can't believe I hadn't reviewed this place yet!!!! Part of me wants to keep this place a secret bc it's so good... but they definitely deserve to be PRAISED. Where to begin?! We lived right around the corner from this place for almost a year before we finally ordered take out one night and, man... I just wish I'd done it sooner!! Literally would probably be my biggest regret on my deathbed. (I've lived a pretty fortunate/sheltered life, I know.) Anyway, they specialize in Nepalese/Indian cuisine and 99% of my orders have been AMAZING. Just... AMAZING. (They don't do vindaloos well, but maybe bc it's a southern Indian dish?) One of their specialties is butter chicken and honestly I have never had a better butter chicken in America. It is creamy, rich, and the garam masala and cumin are so well balanced and beautifully so. A lot of places don't get this right and it's sometimes too cumin heavy or there's too much acidity, but not Gorkha's. Their butter chicken's acid and fats are perfect. We also love their Lamb Biriyani and Lamb Saag!! My bf used to LOVE ordering Palak Paneer at Indian restaurants but it didn't love him back, to put it mildly. (And for good reasons, since the combination of spinach and cheese is terrible for digestion.) Their Lamb Saag is now his go-to dish. It packs a little baby heat which only makes you eat more lol. Their Tandoori Chicken is a hit or miss. Sometimes it's pretty dry, but I've also had it when it was juicy and tender; dry or not, it's still seasoned and charred to perfection. I have walked past this little hole in wall about 30 times this week alone and I'm so psyched I finally stopped in I love a good deal...so I love a lunch special. 13.99 for two curries (veggie AND/OR chicken), naan, rice, pakora, and a drink!!!! My friend and I tried the butter chicken (sorry to be basic, but this was yummy), tikka masala (okay a step less basic, very good but chicken was cube cut in a slightly strange way), chicken saag (best saag I've ever had, chicken was juicy and fell apart in the best ways), and a chicken chilly masala (packed a wonderful spicy punch!!). The naan was delicious, warm, and flavorful despite not being the special garlic or cheese naan. The menu had quite the array of great options so I'll def be back to get momo and try other things, especially from the Nepalese section. Went here last Saturday at 6:30. Wasn't busy and easily got parking right in front. Had the fried chicken momos as an app- they were very good. Butter chicken was very good as well. Naan was good but a little less crispy than I like. We did not enjoy the pumpkin curry- even at medium spice level it didn't have much taste and it was just a lot of mush. The rice was included in the price. There is a liquor store a few doors down if you want to byob and they will happily supply a corkscrew and glasses for you- no charge. Ordered take out from this place for lunch and everything was delicious. I got the Gorkha Veg Thali which I did find to be a bit pricey at $24.95. It did fill me up, and was hella tasty, so I'm not complaining, but just keep in mind the pricing. I love their roti too. It was delicious and paired well with my meal. You honestly can't ever go wrong with Indian or Nepalese food. There is always just so much flavor in the meals. We enjoyed our night here :) Ordered with a group: Veg Momos, Paneer Pakora, Veg Makhani, Veg Biriyani, Palak Paneer, and Jhaneko daal. I was excited to try Nepalese food! I loved the Nepali-style daal. From an Indian who grew up eating daal daily: it was a large Chana dal, creamy and starchy, with a rustic spice profile. So same, but different, haha. This and the veg makhani were perfect. I found the Saag Paneer and Momos to be bland, perhaps needing salt? Also, the service was very friendly, but a bit slow--I was thirsty and there was no one to refill the water glass. The half-full, dirty fish tank was a bit off-putting too. I'm coming back for the dal and the makhani though, so thank you for a good experience! I'm eager to try the pumpkin curry next :) read more

Hmm had take out here last week and had mixed feelings. The lamb curry was delicious! Chicken momos were also tasty. I appreciated the rice and yogurt raita that was also provided! But didn't love the aloo gobi or the pakora. Not sure if I would order from here again, but may consider dining in to see if the food is better at the venue itself. read more

I really dislike having to write a negative review but I was so excited to check this spot out and I barely have time to enjoy a sit down meal these days. My food for lunch seriously tasted like it was reheated from yesterday. I could easily tell my chicken was tandoori probably from yesterday but that wasn't what I ordered. My desert that is normally heated at every other restaurant was just over ice cold. Service wasn't bad but when I had mentioned something twice I just got a look like why am I mentioning this like, " I just want to make the kitchen aware there was bone in my boneless dish." Basically so others don't bite into it or choke. I'd also prefer my check when the meal is over. My positive takeaway is I'm glad this isn't my local Indian spot. read more

Indian food is one of my fav cuisines so my bf and I get it once every couple weeks. This time we ended up trying Gorkha Kitchen. It is a solid choice but nothing extraordinary. I got a Samosa and it was great but it tasted like any other Samosa. I would even compare it to Ghareeb Nawaaz which is a very low end place. I ended up getting the Paneer tikka masala and it was tasty. Not too spicy and satisfied my cravings. My bf got the chicken tikka masala and enjoyed it. I stopped in today. I had stopped in a few times before when there were more strict dining procedures regarding the pandemic. Deepak took very good care of me. I ordered the lunch special which is priced at 13.95 and available until 2:30 pm. My order included a pakora, a pumpkin curry, a chicken curry,naan and rice. I chose water for the drink. You can have either water or canned pop. The flavor of the food was good, but not the best. The naan tasted a bit undercooked, parts seemed soggy not sure if they make it there or defrosted it. Although I am not a big fan of rice, I will say it was fresh and fluffy. They have done alot to freshen up the look of this restaurant which was formerly an Asian restaurant. I wish the food would have been presented in plates and bowls like the last time. The metal tray may be traditional, but does nothing to display the food in a way it would look more appealing. Nor does it seem to coincide with the pleasant decor. Yes, from time to time I will return. You should give it a try! read more
