Chicago now has my new favorite Indian restaurant. Dhanteraz is a hidden gem in Lincoln Park. They serve authentic Indian food that truly hits the spot. The ambience is warm and inviting, and the service was friendly We ordered several dishes, but the vegetable biryani was my absolute favorite. It's served in a traditional clay pot sealed with dough, which locks in the heat and flavors beautifully. An absolute must-try here. We stopped by Dhanteraz Indian Fusion tonight. I was curious to check it out since it took over the space of the supper club I used to frequent. The service was excellent. Our server stopped by the table often to make sure we were all set and offered helpful recommendations based on our preferences. The food was delicious, and we had no complaints about the taste. We paid $6 for garlic naan, $20 for the chicken tikka masala, and $22 for the lamb korma. Overall, dinner for two can easily run around $65 including tax and tip, assuming you skip dessert. Overall, it was a very nice experience. They were accommodating even though we didn't have a reservation and simply popped in because we wanted to try something new close to home. read more

We tried the butter chicken, which was absolutely delicious--rich, creamy, and full of flavor. The pieces were a little too big but easily cut and able to eat. The naan was fire--perfectly soft and slightly charred, just how it should be! The chicken tikka pasta was also a standout, packed with flavor and cooked perfectly. We were visiting Chicago for Mother's Day weekend and I was craving Indian cuisine. We did a Google search and found Dhanteraz Indian Fusion Restaurant in Roscoe Village. We ordered the Gobi Manchurian, Chicken Biryani, and Butter Chicken. Every dish was full of flavor -- my taste buds were absolutely off the charts excited! To top it off, I was given a beautiful gift bag filled with Mother's Day gifts at the end of the meal. So thoughtful! The service was excellent too. On our third trip to Dhanteraz and I had to write a review. The service and atmosphere are only topped by the food. The amazing fusion of flavors transported me to Mumbai. We started with the chili paneer and samosas. Tons of flavor and heat. Moved on to the buttered chicken, paneer masala and shrimp Biryani. I hesitantly ordered from here a week ago through Door Dash. Why I say hesitantly is because Indian food is hit or miss. My guests and I were pleasantly surprised. The food was excellent. We ordered the Gobi Manchurian, Butter Chicken, Dal Makhani, and Chana Masal. We ordered the Gobi Manchurian hot spicy and it was very spicy but great flavor. The other dishes we ordered were medium spicy and still had great spice to it. The two things I think were a BIG miss... 1) The Naan is TERRIBLE. I don't know how a place messes up naan. But reading the rest of the reviews, I'm not the only one who felt this way. It was hard and very dry. 2) The chicken pieces were HUGE. In our dish we had 3 pieces of chicken but they were big chunks and when serving to others, this doesn't go over well. Chicken should be cut into smaller pieces. Otherwise I would highly recommend this place. But please fix the Naan issue! read more

Our first time trying out Dhanteraz Fusion and we loved it. It's a small restaurant with a very cozy atmosphere. The food was great! I loved that there was a large selection of vegetarian options. I ordered vegetable tikka Masala. It was about $16 (small portion). I appreciated my entree included about 6 different vegetables (oppose to only 2 or 3). I also loved the spice level. Thrilled to have Dhanteraz in the neighborhood! We have been longtime fans of Basant Modern Indian a little north, and remain impressed by their food, drinks, and ambience. However, Dhanteraz may have replaced it in terms of quick, quality, reliable takeout, with better hours and far fairer prices. The sauces are excellent - you can tell how fresh their ingredients are and how expertly they balance flavors. I am a huge fan of the saag, both chicken and paneer - just delicious and wonderful over a bed of fluffy rice. We've done takeout three times already - it's a new go to. Some of the best Indian food I've ever had! Our whole experience at Dhanteraz was amazing as soon as we walked in. We felt very welcomed and comfortable with the friendly staff. The atmosphere is really fun and interesting, yet sophisticated enough for date night. The herb rice is extraordinarily flavorful and a must order if you like your rice turned up a notch. The chicken chettinad was easily the best chettinad I've ever had. They curated a perfect spice level to meet my spice preferences (spicy) and I was left in awe with its complex flavor. My wife loved the butter chicken and was thoroughly impressed with how creamy and flavorful it was. We also ordered the garlic naan which exceeded all of our expectations. It was the perfect contrast of crispy bottom with airy/flavorful top. The naan paired excellently with our main entrees and is a must order. The mango Lassi was super refreshing and had us wishing we ordered another! Finally, the coconut milk cake rounded out our experience with a lovely, light, and refreshing sweet treat. Dhanteraz will be our goto Indian restaurant for the foreseeable future. Just went for lunch for the first time. Superb food, very well executed, and really friendly and helpful staff. We had the Gobi Manchurian, an Indo-Chinese crispy cauliflower appetizer - texture was perfect, crispy on the outside but tender on the inside. For mains we ordered the Dhanteraz paneer - so rich and delicious! - and the Dhanteraz shrimp biryani, which comes cooked in a clay pot sealed with a thin bread steamed over it. The coolest part is the waitress (can't spell her name but she's great) remembers what she selected for you last time, so your adventure always continues! This place is excellent!! I've been to alot of Indian restaurants and this some of the best food I have had. Their signature Dhanteraz sauce is some of the best. The Korma is also really good. They have a spicy garlic naan which is both spicy and loaded with tons of flavor. We also got their lamb biryani which was super flavorful and the portion was large.
