My friend is Pakistani and loves their nihari, so I came with them to try the sabri nihari. We got that, the haleem, beef samosas, and one other thing. They loved the haleem and nihari and have been here repeatedly for just that. The beef samosa wasn't shaped like the typical (potato-filled) samosas and personally reminded me of sambusas I had. Visited Chicago after several years and made the mistake of going to Sabri, which really seems to have gone downhill since my last visit. The regular nihari (which should be their specialty since it's in their name) was okayish - lots of sauce thickened with flour and some beef pieces and little spice, but okay. The goat biryani was awful with mostly inedible meat and nothing taste wise to indicate that it was a biryani. For a restaurant with a longstanding presence on Devon, you would hope for some real authentic Pakistani food, but sadly not the case any more at least based on this experience. Hard skip. read more

My friend and I had a lovely lunch here today for her birthday. We decided to go out for lunch on Devon Ave but didn't have a restaurant in mind. I'm glad we picked this place while walking around on a Monday. The restaurant is very pretty inside and surprisingly big. The servers were helpful. Food was good. The non-alcoholic cocktails were good and very pretty and fun to get. I tried Sabri Nihari for the first time. Some dishes were a bit spicy for me, but I really enjoyed every dish. We started with a soda called Pakola, which was good, and also had some fancy non-alcoholic drinks with bubbles on top. For food, we ordered Chicken Biryani, their special beef dish Sabri Nihari in rich gravy, and Chicken Kabobs. For dessert, we had Faluda, Ras Malai and chai tea. All their dishes are delicious; my favorites are their aloo palak, chana masala, & their nihari of course. Accompanied by some basmati rice & don't forget the garlic naan. Daughter had been wanting Nihari so we went to the original nihari shop on Devon. I have been coming to Sabri for the last 20 plus years. When they had a small shop with limited seating. They have grown over the years and now it's a nice clean and modern family restaurant. But the food remains the same. We walked in and were seated right away. The atmosphere is friendly and the place is clean. We got our water and menus right away. The staff is friendly and helpful. We ordered a Nihari (a Pakistani delicacy, where the stew or curry is cooked over a long period of time and the meat is super tender. Traditionally done with beef.) a Chicken Makhani (butter chicken) and some nuggets and fries for the little guy. Also got some plain naan and a garlic naan. The food came out relatively quickly. The portion sizes were good. We could have probably been ok with one curry instead of two. The nihari was flavorful and well spiced. Not terribly hot and ample gravy and meat in there. They are known for their Nihari (it's in their name) and they didn't disappoint. The chicken was good too. Just kind if your standard butter chicken affair so can't complain. The sauce was flavorful and the chicken was soft. Enjoyable. But the star was the nihari. The nuggets and fries were also fine. Nothing spectacular, just your run of the mill nuggets and fries. Probably from a frozen bag. An institution on Devon and still is great after all these years. Definitely worth trying if you want nihari. That's what they are known for. read more

To say that I am utterly disappointed is an understatement. The 2 stars I've given represent 1) a large clean space and 2) prompt service That is where it ends: as a stalwart contender for the best nihari in Pakistan, Sabri has a lot to live up to. Unfortunately it falls short on every level. We ordered the bone marrow nihari. First and foremost the color of the dish was off. A brownish reddish hue is one I've not seen before. Then comes the taste: absolutely lacking in any flavor save chili, whoever cooked this abides by the theory that throwing a bunch of chili powder will replace actual flavor, the fact that the actual bone marrow ( meant to have been cooked in the Nihari) was tasteless is a testament to how unappetizing the meal was. The traditional accompaniments of Nihari were also pitiful: jalapeños instead of actual sliced chilis???!!! Surely real chillis are plentiful at many of the neighborhood markets! Raw onions rather than fried onions! Just wrong. The tandoori roti we ordered was like cardboard. Service was such that plates were being taken from out table as we were actually still eating!! I rarely say this : but I'll not ever be back to waste a meal here. read more

One of the best Pakistani places in Chicago and highlighted by the Bib Gourmand they received. The staff is great, the flavors vibrant, and decor is sleek and modern. The prices are extremely affordable and for those that aren't familiar they have images next to each item. It is street parking, so I would recommend taking an Uber. read more

We had picked up food from Sabri Nihari restaurant, for our dinner. We had ordered a mutton biryani and were confused what to order on the sides. Our server who was the most remarkable person suggested that we go for their Sabri Nihari. Due to his reassurances, we ordered the same. Both the biryani and sabri nihari were spectacular. Portion size was huge. One plate is enough for 4 people. And the sabri nihari was actually really good! I loved the entire experience. We try other places but the path always leads us back to the reliable Sabri Nihari! They always meet our expectations with the generous portions of delicious food. Anything you order is going to be good! Naazir is an exceptional server here! Whenever we go we feel really good that's he's taking care of our table. We order a lot of entrees and he is always accurate with our orders and proactive to bring more water, napkins, extra plates etc... the best nihari i've had in the U.S. besides like my friends grandmas house. every time im in chicago i have to have sabri. i have had it both takeout and dine in, it holds up well both ways. i could literally drink the broth. the meat is so tender. the servers are very hospitable and kind. the ambiance is cute inside for a laid back family dinner on devon. i am so glad i was introduced to sabri. read more

Tl;dr: service is 5/5, food 3/5 After hearing rave reviews from friends we chose to go to Sabri Nihari. As soon as you walk in you're greeted by exceptional hospitality from the staff. We were seated immediately and throughout dinner were very well taken care of, be it ordering food, refilling water/chutneys, there was always someone nearby As for the food, we ordered palak gosht, biryani and qeema naan (of note, the qeema naan is minced beef and the "chicken naan" is minced chicken). We didn't know about this when we ordered but the server was nice enough to switch it out for us. (Yes, I know, blasphemy we didn't try the nihari!) The food was okay, ive had better elsewhere. The biryani was 3/5 and so was the palak gosht - which, in my opinion, had too much masala The drinks were great though! Again, be mindful- they add Red Bull to all their drinks (mocktails) except the mint drinks, something to be mindful of if you're going for dinner. The servers again did a splendid job at explaining the menu and have great recommendations. The tea was also nice (without sugar) so I liked that! The nihari ... which is what they are known for, was not the same as it used to be - it tasted dull with no real taste or spice, the naan was not the traditional naan ... it was a lot thinner and turned crispy quicker as compared to staying pillowy and soft. The chicken makhani was just okay and the combo kabob platter was better. The service was average and they did update the restaurant decor and seating areas to make it look modern which was nice. Went here with friends last night. We got there early and it was nice that it was quiet. But there was no music! The food here is fantastic, and everyone working is professional. However, one of the waiters had so much cologne on that I could still smell it through the bold flavors of my food. When I left, I could smell it on my clothes. Perhaps it would help if his friends educated him on how to properly wear the cologne so that it is only noticeable within a few feet of his presence. I found it interesting that sodas came out in a can without a glass of ice, and there were no options for hot beverages such as tea. I stuck with water. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed what I ate, but I have the feeling I am going to love the leftovers even more. There won't be the smell of cologne mixed with my food. Definitely worth checking out. Portion sizes when it comes to takeout is very small. One container had a little and the other was mediocre.. if you want taste Sabri is good but quantity for the price has dropped significantly. Stunningly good food. This is a pricier place to eat than many Indopak restaurants but it is well worth it. It is a cleanly establishment and the staff are kind and attentive. The way to order here is to share - you can order things for yourself if you really want to, but the dishes are meant for the table and are very rich. You're unlikely to finish something here by yourself. Yet another great culinary experience on Devon, solidifying the South Asian food scene as my favorite in Chicago. The management has a did a lot of hard work on the interior side which I will give them definitely five stars; what they really have to work on some of food items. Some of their food items are excellent particularly "Nihari"is definitely a very good item. The appetizers are not so good-so skip appetizers . especially the chicken pakora is not good. I have tried chicken pakora at anmol-It was very good fresh. I'm not convinced with their barbecue items. the only items I would try and recommend to everyone is butter chicken, frontier chicken. Go for it!! Sometimes you get the biryani fresh; sometimes it's not fresh. It is a fact. I could tell the biryani by looking at the appearance and through the ricegrains. There are some of the items which we ordered: we felt it was already been cooked, and then they just reheated the food in the microwave upon our order however overall we give them three stars because the management deserves investment they have done for interior. One word: A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!!! My best friend took me here because she wanted me to try traditional Pakistani cuisine. We ordered chicken chargha, karahi chicken, mutton biryani, garlic and regular naan, and of course, the sabri nihari. This is one of the most flavorful meals I've had! The sabri nihari was cooked to perfection. The beef was melt-in-your-mouth tender! Make sure you pair it with a couple slices of ginger, onion, and a spritz of lemon. Delicious! The naans were super helpful in soaking up all the stew juices. My favorite dish was the karahi chicken. I'm still drooling thinking about how tender and juicy that was. It was so flavorful, with savory and charred notes. Sooo good! I can go on and on about all the dishes, they are just that yummy. For drinks, I tried the lassi. It is this creamy, yogurt-y, sweet milkshake. It reminds me of Mexican fruit yogurt, but more liquidity. YUMS! Overall, my bff has opened my eyes to this new cuisine.
