This place is so pretty inside and they have outdoor seating as well. The service was friendly and efficient. The food was five stars all the way. Make sure you order the pumpkin. It's soooo good. And the coffee was excellent. Not only in taste but in presentation. Fabulous. I ordered the chocolate mousse cake for dessert and it didn't disappoint. It was divine. I highly recommend this place. It's a gem in the community.

Delicious food, consistent flavors and warm hospitality has as always coming back. If you're ever wanting to have a private party, they also have two dining areas that are private rooms where you could host about 20 to 30 people.

First time ordering from here and definitely not the last. I pass by this place everyday on my way back home from work and one night my uber driver actually gave me a 5 star review on it so I'm returning the favor. I've never had chargrilled chicken that was so tender. Incredible!! And the afghani rice was amazing!! Can't wait to dine in one day!!

An amazing Afghan restaurant located in Evanston. Highly recommended if you like Middle Eastern food. Several reasons. First, the restaurant serves some dishes not easy to find in US, such as Afghan mantoo (dumpling) -- it was basically meat or veggie wrapped in Wonton paper and topped with peas, carrots, tomatoes and garlic yogurt. Compared to Chinese dumplings, their mantoos have more chewy Wonton paper, and the toppings really added many flavors. Other than the dumplings, I also tried some interesting veggies such as Kadu -- basically pumpking cubes cooked with honey and cardamon and yogurt, and Sabzi -- bascially chopped spinach sauteed and topped with peas, carrots, tomatoes. Both were delicous. Besides the food, I really like their service. Every staff looked happy and enjoyed their work. During both of my visits to the restaurant, my food came out quickly, and my servers were attentive and friendly. During my first visit, the manager even gave me a small cup of milk tea (with saffron, spices and sugar). Unfortunately it was too sweet for me.

Complimentary bread and mild sauce.

Kabul House is a spacious and extravagant restaurant that offers an authentic Afghani fare and experience at a great value. Stepped in both times years apart to be equally impressed. The staff here are extremely polite and attentive. I highly recommend trying their beef koobidah with Afghan carrot and raisin rice and hummus. Solid choice all around. I'd come here whenever I'm in Evanston.

Cozy gem with warm interiors, Kabul house serves flavorful dishes - well marinated kebabs to flavored rice great for sharing. The hummus was smooth with rich flavor of olive oil. Combination platter serves a good portion to rich and spicy kebabs. We also got the Kabuli Pulau, as described the lamb is tender and juicy. The only thing that overwhelmed us was the portion of rice every entree had so order carefully. We ended our night with some hot tea :)

I saw the great reviews and decided to give Kabul House a try, since we love Afghan cuisine. The place was pretty packed, so I'd recommend making a reservation, especially on weekends. We started with the beef dumplings, which were okay but not the standout dish. Then, we ordered the combination platter with spicy chicken kabob and beef kebabs, along with some salmon. The Afghan rice was absolutely delicious--so flavorful! The spicy chicken kabob was a highlight--juicy and packed with flavor. The beef and salmon were decent, but not as memorable. For drinks, we tried the mint lime and strawberry tahini mocktails. The mint lime was like a slushie, but both were refreshing and tasty. Portions were generous too.

We came here for a celebratory dinner after a northwestern graduation ceremony. The food was so delicious that I was happy to have the leftovers for lunch the next day. The staff was very polite and the restaurant was clean. When we went, the men's bathroom was down and the women's bathroom became a unisex with one customer at a time. This likely has changed since we went. As far as food goes I'd definitely start with the hummus and get either chicken or beef koobidah for juicy tender meat. Sooo good.

Ask the Community - Kabul House

Are there any corkage fees if we bring wine? Will we need to bring our own opener as well?

I believe it's a $6.00 corkage fee and they do have corkscrews.

Can you dine in?

Yes, call ahead.

Do they offer byob?

Yes they do.

Do they serve liquor?

No, but you can bring your own and they supply glasses.

Are they still in business? Online ordering wasn't working, and no one picked up phone at 6pm on a Saturday...

They are at a new gorgeous building in Evanston now!

Bamyan Kabob's lunch buffet is one of those rare spots where you feel like you've discovered…read moresomething special the moment you sit down. The standout for me was the chicken soup--rich, creamy, and packed with flavor in a way that feels both comforting and indulgent without being heavy. It's the kind of dish you go back for more than once. The variety of rice offerings was equally impressive, each with its own distinct seasoning and texture--from light and fragrant to more savory, spiced options that pair perfectly with the rest of the meal. The chicken dishes on the buffet were tender and well-marinated, with a depth of flavor that clearly comes from careful preparation rather than shortcuts. I also appreciated the small touches that round out the experience. The tea was warm and soothing, a perfect complement to the meal, and the dessert selection added a nice, subtle sweetness to finish without overwhelming you. Overall, Bamyan Kabob delivers a well-balanced, flavorful lunch buffet that feels both hearty and thoughtfully prepared. It's a place that doesn't just fill you up--it makes you want to come back.

My first Yelp event was at Kabul House on Oakton (Skokie), before they moved to Dempster…read more(Evanston). And from that moment to this, I've always been amazed by Afghanistan style cooking. And that's why I was attracted to Bamyan Kabob. I drive down Lincoln Avenue every week it seems, and guess what, there's Bamyan that I'm seeing out of the corner of my eye. So I finally came in, at least three (3) times now and I really enjoy the greetings from the employees, they are very friendly. They also have videos showing how the food is prepared and cooked, which is very insightful. As for the food, definitely get the mantu entree, these are the beef pot stickers, these are incredible. I would also select the steak and chicken kebabs with salad. Although we've asked for rare steak, it's been on the medium well side. But both the steak and chicken breast cubes are still very juicy. Excellent service too, in this neat and clean environment. When it was warmer, we sat in the outdoor enclosed area and that was cool, literally.

The momo dish came with a wonderful sauce, and the chicken lollipops were very tender. For entrees, the goat curry was delicious and aromatic. The chili cheese naan was a nice addition to the meal as well. Moreover, the interior of the restaurant was welcoming, and the staff were very friendly. This is definitely a spot I will come back to visit again and try more dishes.

We started with the chicken lollipops. The taste was decent, but apparently the chickens they use are roughly the size of sparrows. Next came the Bang Bang Shrimp. The chef might want to take a field trip to PF Chang's and try their Dynamite Shrimp just to see what the dish is supposed to accomplish. The momos were ordered as appetizers, which I assume means they're intended to arrive before the meal. Ours showed up just as we were finishing our entrées. Maybe they were traveling from Nepal on foot. The goat curry was actually pretty good, which briefly gave us hope. Then the garlic naan arrived and tasted suspiciously like something that had recently completed a successful career at Costco. If they have a tandoor, it's apparently being used for storage. To add to the experience, there was live singing. Unfortunately, the entertainment seemed to receive more attention than the food. My humble suggestion: spend less time rehearsing songs and more time rehearsing recipes. The grand finale? The morning after, both my son and I were dealing with indigestion. Nothing severe, but it was a fitting encore to an already memorable evening. I rarely write negative reviews, but when a restaurant charges premium prices, I expect more than tiny appetizers, delayed food, questionable naan, and a digestive adventure. The biggest mystery of the night remains how this place maintains such a high rating.
