I came in here. It's a new location. My brother and I we came here and I ordered the chicken thigh. Kebab with dJill. Rice came with hummus some bread. A tomato salad was really good. Excellent customer service. They are very hospitable . I felt very welcomed as if I were in their home . The decor is beautiful. I looked over by where their front lobby is and it looks like someone's living room. Everything in here is done attention to detail.. The kebab chicken I ordered was very moist and delicious and I took half of it home. They had wonderful bread, dill rice, and a tomato salad. Excellent hummus very creamy. An amazing Afghan restaurant located in Evanston. Highly recommended if you like Middle Eastern food. Several reasons. First, the restaurant serves some dishes not easy to find in US, such as Afghan mantoo (dumpling) -- it was basically meat or veggie wrapped in Wonton paper and topped with peas, carrots, tomatoes and garlic yogurt. Compared to Chinese dumplings, their mantoos have more chewy Wonton paper, and the toppings really added many flavors. Other than the dumplings, I also tried some interesting veggies such as Kadu -- basically pumpking cubes cooked with honey and cardamon and yogurt, and Sabzi -- bascially chopped spinach sauteed and topped with peas, carrots, tomatoes. Both were delicous. Besides the food, I really like their service. Every staff looked happy and enjoyed their work. During both of my visits to the restaurant, my food came out quickly, and my servers were attentive and friendly. I'm really disappointed with my experience today, especially since I was here just last week with a couple of friends and had a wonderful time. The food and service were great then, so I decided to bring more friends today -- but it felt like a completely different restaurant. Last week I ordered the strawberry tahini drink and loved it, but this time they didn't have it. We also ordered the Qazi Salad again -- last week it didn't have the raspberries shown in the photo, and this time it arrived without walnuts, which is disappointing since it's literally described as a "date and walnut" salad. By the time our server came back, another waiter brought the missing walnuts, but we had already finished eating. I also re-ordered the chicken koubideh because it was so soft and juicy last time -- this time, it was so dry it was hard to swallow. My sister's lamb chops were also flavorless and not worth $35 for four small pieces that lacked seasoning. To make things worse, we were charged a $30 service fee because a fifth person joined us last minute (and only ordered a bowl of soup). The service absolutely did not reflect a 20% tip -- and I usually always tip 20% unless it's truly undeserved. On top of that, there was a $5 credit card fee, which makes no sense when they bring the card machine directly to the table. The final straw was seeing two drinks on the bill that we never ordered. If I hadn't checked the receipt and called them, I would've ended up paying for someone else's drinks -- completely unacceptable. We've been loyal customers of Kabul House since their original Oakton location in Skokie, but today's experience really left a bad taste in my mouth. Sadly, I don't think I'll be coming back anytime soon. read more

We came here for a celebratory dinner after a northwestern graduation ceremony. The food was so delicious that I was happy to have the leftovers for lunch the next day. The staff was very polite and the restaurant was clean. When we went, the men's bathroom was down and the women's bathroom became a unisex with one customer at a time. Though not my first time dining at Kabul House but my first in this location, I asked myself why I did not come more often. The cuisine is halal and has elements similar to dishes from India and Persia and other countries. There is a spacious parking lot, an expansive dining area, beautiful decor. We started with bright and refreshing mint lemonade then shared Mantoo, which are minced beef dumplings, topped with garlic yogurt, and mint. These were very tasty and served with a bright and intense coriander chutney. One of my companions ordered the combination grilled kabob platter which is kabobs served with rice (Afghan, dill, or white saffron), grilled tomato and peppers. They are a regular to this restaurant and this was a favorite. My other companion chose scallion and leek dumplings which were cooked in herbs and spices, and topped with minced beef, garlic yogurt, and mint. I ordered the vegetarian platter which contained roasted eggplant, sauteed spinach, and pumpkin and came with Afghan rice. I loved the smoky, silky eggplant, the delicate spinach and the chunky, earthy and sweet pumpkin. It was tied together with the delicious Afghan rice, sweet with carrots and raisins. The national dish of Afghanistan is Kabuli Palaw which is rice, carrots, raisins and lamb. We had a great time, sharing the dishes which came with a basket of delicious naan and assorted chutneys. We weren't rushed or hurried and we stayed long after we finished, reconnecting and updating each other on new developments in our lives. read more

I've heard about this place for a while, finally decided to check it out. It's a pretty nice place, the ambiance and decor are really nice, the staff are friendly. It's a nice restaurant feel with white tablecloths and stemmed glasses. I got the chicken barg with afghan rice (comes with raisin and carrots), and the saffron milk tea. The tea was delicious! Nice creamy flavor with a perfect sweetness, and the tea flavor was pretty strong too. I enjoyed the food as well, everything was done well, and the rice was pretty yummy. We were up north, so we decided to try out Kabul House. It's been a while. Last time we went, they were located elsewhere. Parking is adequate for non-peak times. It's not a parking lot per se, but close enough. The interior is spacious and looks decent. Service was excellent and pricing was reasonable. The food came out really fast. We ordered the aushak (dumplings) and kadu (sautéed pumpkin) appetizers, along with the combination platter with chicken breast and beef kabob, and kabuli rice. The aushak was pretty tasty; a bit more yogurt would have been nice. The kadu was also tasty; it was almost like dessert. It didn't pair perfectly with pita bread, though. The platter was excellent. We really like the food at Kabul house, but it's a little spicy for our kids. So this tends to be an adults only dining for our family. While we have eaten there a few times, the atmosphere is a little stuffy, and we can feel out of place. So we typically order delivery. I saw this restaurant on TikTok and decided to try it while I was staying in Evanston, IL. The food was so good oh my god. I got the filet mignon with the afghan rice. I added grilled onion and a spicy chicken kabob. The steak was very soft but under seasoned however the spicy chicken kabob was out of this world. The spices on it were amazing. The rice was great and refreshing with the carrots on top. Our waiter was very nice. The restaurant was quiet at the time I went there were only a few people there.
