The basmati rice was my favorite. It was perfectly cooked and had a touch of sweetness from the carrots and raisins. The beef and lamb could've been a little more tender. The kabobs are seasoned well and have some spice to it. The owner/manager(?) is super friendly, but always hustling. The kabuli palaw is fall-of-the bone tender, definitely should give it a try! I've had dine-in and carry out. They do take care of the carry out. The food is presented nice even after I get it home. All I can say is WOW!!! Super tender meats & incredibly flavorful food with the slightest hint of spice (upon request). What may seem like a quiet restaurant in a quaint plaza is an absolute hidden gem. Staff is warm and welcoming. We ordered to-go and inside was very clean. Our first time trying Afghan food and this place knocks it out of the park. We split a combination #3 I believe that included chicken shish, beef kabob, and lamb chunks (I forget the proper name, my apologies). All three were tender, juicy, and bursting with flavor. Almost citrusy and spicy, a front flavor of cilantro in almost everything- we absolutely devoured it all. My husband couldn't believe how much he loved the chicken. It came with hummus and an onion tomato salad. The meats were placed on a beautiful piece of bread that was cut into pieces almost and soaked some of those meat juices. Superb. Came to about $22 I believe. We also shared a chicken soup- do not skip!! Add the green sauce! Thank me later. And lastly the Mantu- ground beef stuffed dumplings in a tangy yogurt, tomato savory topped sauce. I truly can't explain it. Top five dishes I've ever had no joke. I added some green sauce and I already can't wait to order it again. Next time I'm buying a bottle of green sauce! It was $9 for that app with about nine pieces. I've been living in the area for many years and only just discovered this restaurant. I'm so glad I gave it a try. The first time I took a bite into the chicken kabob, I knew I had found a hidden gem. It was the juiciest and tastiest chicken kabob I've ever had. Every piece of meat was cooked perfectly. The entree included pickled veggies, sesame seed bread, and your choice of rice or hummus. The bread was crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside- so good dipped in the homemade hummus. The salad had tomatoes and onion and was a refreshing side to the rest of the meal. I've also had the Bulanee Kachaloo app, which are crispy turnovers filled with a spiced potato filling. It's light and crispy with the perfect amount of flavor. I don't think I can eat here without ordering this every time. I also tried the pistachio chai latte and it's amazing. It's fragrant pink chai drink that has sweet, thick pistachio sauce with small pieces of actual pistachio in it. It was so delicious. I've been here several times now since discovering it, and brought friends to try it. Everyone has enjoyed the food. Everything I've eaten has been delicious and cooked perfectly every time. The staff are always very kind and the food is so reasonably priced. I'm super glad I gave this place a chance. read more

The flavors that come out of this small restaurant in a strip mall on Dempster are just amazing. If you've never had Afghani food before, Afghan kabob is a Percy place to try. They offer delicious kabobs, lamb, chicken and beef which are cooked to perfection and spiced just right. All the meats are seasoned so well that not only do you get a tasty dish but it is also moist and consistent. The service is usually pretty fast as well. I ordered carry out for dinner on. This food is on point! Somehow these little hole in the wall spots always exceed my expectations. Tucked away in a little strip mall, this place is unassuming but it's putting out fantastic flavors with friendly service and quick ticket times. I had the lamb kabob with brown rice, the bread, and salad. I ordered in and my food came out in maybe 15 minutes, literally steaming. First thing I noticed is the smell of the spices and seasoning. Very aromatic which is a very good sign. Tender meat seasoned to perfection, flavorful rice cooked just right, a quick salad that brings the acid to balance the rest... really a perfect meal. The sauces! Much better than the standard stuff, the green sauce is so good I ate every last bit of it and when I ran out of meat I finished it with the bread. I'd put that on anything and everything, it's got such a nice punch of fresh flavor and just a little heat. The white sauce had a mild tang from what I'm assuming is yogurt, it's not too rich and its another perfect addition to the meal! The only negatives I had are that the floor was sticky and the price was a bit high. 20 dollars for my meal, which kept me from ordering anything extra, but the food IS worth it. The space is a bit drab and it was awkwardly quiet, but as they got more customers it got more lively. They definitely have happy regulars and if I still lived around here I'd be one of them. It seems like they moved to Morton Grove around 3 years ago and we should all be grateful they brought this fantastic food our way. While my food was being prepared, I waited in the dining area of the restaurant. The ambiance was cozy. The restaurant staff members were friendly and nice. The restaurant was inviting and had a welcoming atmosphere. It's a family-owned business. I received good service and the cost of food was reasonable. I enjoyed my delicious lunch special meal. The kabobs were cooked to perfection and nicely seasoned to give a good flavor. The rice and salad were tasty as well. I had to order quite a bit of  food for a lunch for my family and I before we were supposed to be going to a wedding. We stayed at a hotel nearby and knew that we would not eat dinner until much later and needed something to hold us over. This place was the perfect option. Not only was I able to get the prices over the phone, the people who work here texted me pictures of food, sent prices and confirmed sizes with me and gave recommendations about how much to get for how many people, including telling me how long before I needed to order to make sure I got my order ready in time for pick up since I was ordering in advance. The Afghani palaou was fantastic, as was the garlic and spicy green sauce. I especially loved the mix kabobs and I wish they had this option at all afghan/ pakistani places. The option to get a mix tray of kabobs with the pieces cut up would be a game changer for parties! I ordered a small tray of salad thinking not many people would like it (but I like salad so I figured I would have leftovers for later), but to my surprise that was gobbled up quick! Just went there for lunch. I was not familiar with cuisine from that part of the world and it is likely to be a favorite from now on. The butternut squash chalaw was delightful and the seasoning on the brown rice made the side of rice delicious on its own. I wish I had taken a picture before digging in - the presentation was gorgeous. The service was professional and nobody rushed us as we hung out sipping a cup of chai (also perfect). Stopped by here with my wife after a recommendation from a family member and we were not disappointed. She got the Chicken Chapli Kabob and I got the Combination #2, which consists of 3 different Afghan kabobs. For the Combination plate you can choose from 1 lamb kabob, chicken shish, chicken shami or beef shami. I got the chicken shish, chicken shami and beef shami. The beef to me was just ok but all the chicken dishes were great. With my wifes plate and mine, it was also accompanied by a small a cucumber, onion and tomato salad and tons of rice (was very happy with the rice here). They also included 2 sauces. I wasn't huge on the white sauce but it wasn't bad. The green was a bit to the spicier side. It is pricey, but overall, I would definitely be back. 5 all day! read more

Really nice interior setup! We first tried Afghan Kabob at an event. We loved the Kabuli Palaw and Mantu at the event, so that's what we ordered when we dined in this time. Both dishes were really, really good and packed with flavor! The meat in the Kabuli Palaw was fall-off-the-bone tender. We also tried the sheer chai, which was good, definitely recommend it. However, the service wasn't great. We seated ourselves and weren't even offered water until we asked. Our food also took forever to come out. They were busy when we went, and the staff were apologetic about the food coming out late. So maybe this was a one-off thing. Their menu is a bit dated with regards to the descriptions. I would recommend confirming with the staff. For example we were expecting the mantu platter to come with rice and salad as the menu states for the entrees, but it doesn't. With all that being said, I would give the dine-in experience another try, but I'm definitely sold on the food. read more

I wasn't sure what to expect walking in, as this spot is tucked into a little strip mall, but don't let the appearance stop you... 10000% amazing food. The Lamb Kebab was moist, well cooked, and came with a heaping mountain of rice. I could eat it all day. I ate myself so full I laid down in the car afterwards and just groaned for like an hour. I wish it came with more meat, but the rice more than made up for that. There was some unlabeled green sauce by the cutlery -- I figured it was hot sauce and I tried it. It went amazingly well with the lamb. It's not super hot, and tastes a little bit like tobasco. I loved it. The real star was the Kabuli Palaw. The cashier/owner told us that was the most popular thing on the menu, and that we were lucky we were early enough to get it, because they usually run out. He's right, we were incredibly lucky. This place is a hidden gem, located next to the Giordano's on Dempster. I have been to them all, Kabul house, Kabul kabab, so many afghan places, and I can honestly say that this one takes the cake. FOOD: no skimping on quality here. large portions, and flavorful food. The lamb cubes were juicy and not gamey. We ordered the combination plate #2 $19.99 (enough for 2-3 people). We picked two chicken kabobs, one looked like a koubideh that was Very flavorful, and the other again very flavorful chicken thighs/shish kabobs. Traditional kabuli rice of-course, and the shredded carrots had a deep red color as most premium carrots do. The salad that this dish comes with is very fresh and perfectly cut to equal texture. The Mantu is extremely flavorful, there's a kick to the red lentils and the meat smelled aromatic. The bulanee kachaloo is well complimented with the green raita sauce that it comes with. It's not spicy on spicy, it's actually a perfect balance of fluffy potato stuffed paratha style bread without an overkill of seasoning. I could eat this all day. We had the afghani chai- similar to Kashmiri chai without the nuts. This was sweet and delightful, with a subtle hint of cardamom. SERVICE: polite, professional, honest. COST: very affordable for the portion size AMBIANCE: rustic and quaint, I think this place could cram 10-12 large families at once. We stumbled upon this lovely restaurant on the way to Midway. It was quite pretty and very clean, bathroom too! The owner greeted us and asked us if we wanted anything to drink. I asked what came in the chicken kabob pita and she said she would bring me complementary hummus and salad on the side if I got the kabob plate. She brought us baba ghanoush which was the best I've ever had, with a giant basket of warm pita. Then she brought the hummus and salad which was even better!! The plate had juicy, perfectly cooked chicken thigh pieces with a grilled half onion and tomato, along with the yummiest Afghan rice which had shredded carrot and raisins in it. 2 sauces came on the side, a garlicky yogurt sauce that I wanted to drink lol and a very tasty Afghan spicy sauce. We were planning to go to Kabul House, but after arriving there we found it was closed due to Labor Day (even though it was Sunday before Labor Day). As a Plan B, we found Afghan Kabob not terribly far away. It's in an unassuming strip mall, easy to drive past. Inside is spacious enough and looks decent, but it was pretty warm inside. Thankfully they had a couple of fans running. It's not an upscale place with table service. Rather, you place your order at the counter and pick up there. The decor was okay. We ordered mantu (essentially ground beef dumplings), kabuli palaw (rice w/ lamb), and a lamb kabob entree (lamb chunks w/ rice). Pricing was comparable to other sit-down restaurants w/ table service that offer the same or similar cuisine. The mantu was excellent. The palaw was very good. It was less greasy than some other places, and there was a generous amount of raisins and carrots. The lamb wasn't very juice, but it was tender and fall-off-the-bone. The only mediocre dish was the lamb kabob entree, as the lamb chunks were dry and very tough. The cucumber salad included with both entrees was good. read more
