The mango lassi was possibly the best lassi I've ever had. The dosa was great, the idli were boring, but I think that's just how idli are (my first idly experience), the uttapam was very good, puri was good. Service was good, no loud music. The normal tamarind chutney which was fine but also a coconut chutney that was very simply coconut. I'm a white guy so maybe this is a typical chutney, but I've never seen it before. Everything here was super yummy! Went with a couple of friends, so we ordered a malai kofta, palak paneer, and baigan bhartha to split. I also got the batata vada and chai for myself. I don't really understand the low reviews - I've been here at least twice and loved it both times. Last time, we got a pani puri, masala dosa, onion uttapam, and mango kulfi, and I'd probably rank the savory items in that order. I loved the pani puri and masala dosa (although I wish that they gave more potatoes, the filling was not very much and it was pretty stingy but the dosa was crispy and their sauces were yummy) - I would definitely go back and get those things again. Both those food items are actually on my list of foods to eat when I'm feeling down and need a pick-me-up. The onion uttapam was solid, but probably wouldn't order again, although I heated some up for leftovers later and it was pretty tasty. Food: we ordered pav bhaji, vada pav, masala dosa, medu vada and idli. Pav bhaji was okay, not authentic, masala dosa was good however the potatoes were not cooked thoroughly and were crunchy to bite and huge chunks. Vada did not smell fresh and was definitely refried again. I ate a small piece of it and it was very hard and not soft and crispy. Idli was fine, and they provided plain yogurt and sugar per our request for our 4 yo child. Ambience: nothing great or bad about it. Service: Overall service was fine. We got there on Sunday night around 9:10pm and they said last order would be 9:30pm so we ordered quickly including mango melba for dessert (mango fruit, vanilla ice cream, mango puree and whip cream)...however it had everything except the ice cream...overall still tasty. I think my favorite item here was the Kachori chaat. It was very tasty and spicy! I also really really like the shrikhand with puri as it came with puri, a savory curry, and shrikhand which is sweet. I came with my dinner group, and we had a really good time. Our server was really friendly and helped us pick out some items to share. We tried Dahi Batata Puri for the first time and it was really fun. It's these little hollow crispy spheres that were stuffed with a cold paste mixture of potato, onion, tomato and spices. It was then topped with chutney and sauce and fried vermicelli. I hadn't had anything quite like it before. We also split an order of Mixed Pakora and that was very tasty! Then we ordered our own dishes and passed them around. I got the Palak Paneer and, while it wasn't quite how other places I've been have done it or how I prefer it, I really enjoyed it. I have been to this restaurant for delicious South Indian food and Indian street food. I have also utilized them for catering for both North and South Indian cuisine. The service is professional, the owner/manager Kamal is easy to reach and work with, and the prices are also affordable. I recently had a gathering for the NY's with a diverse range of people, ethnically and racially and with different dietary restrictions. The food was enjoyed by all. Bonafide "chaat" house. Casual and maintained like a cafe. Not a regular full service restaurant. So if you are planning to meet many friends, I wouldn't put their staff through that hassle. For those wanting to expand their knowledge of what Indian foods can offer. Guy's it's not always about butter chicken! Spice levels are comfortable and kids alike will enjoy. The food is Indian vegetarian. Snacks, fried items, limited desserts and some Indian entree staples. Dosas, idlis, paratha, puffed rice, roti, puri (types of Indian breads) and more. Those are often served alongside chutneys, dips, veg curries and even more. Side note: Most Indians will not order dosas and puris in carry out or delivery. These are breads that are made to eat when fresh. It's at its best when it hits the plate soon after frying. I guess you could try to microwave it but some finesse is needed to get the breads back to a pliable texture. Uru Swati is a household name on Devon that's been in existence for many years. They've experienced some highs and many lows. Somehow though, they keep comin' back around in popularity. A change in staff or getting back to basics can do that. Everything we had was very great, vegans note that the samosas and naan are made with milk. We got take out from here for dinner last night since my brother-in-law was in the area. I absolutely loved one dish, but I'm not sure whether it was Navratan curry or Alu Gobi. Either way one was good and one I liked the container clean. (I was at home. You can do that at home.) We ordered everything vegan: Navratan curry- they were able to make vegan bhindi masala- great Alu Jeera-good Alu Gobi roti-good Dishes came with basmati rice. Was craving real Indian food this Diwali weekend so I headed to Devon Avenue. I had pain puri, a masala dosa, and a mango lassi. They were all solid. The masala had peas in it which was a nice addition. I ordered a bunch of takeout as well - pan bhaji and deluxe bhel. They were out of idli and medu vada, which was pretty disappointing. I've been looking for a classic South Indian restaurant to indulge my craving for a dosa. This place definitely fulfilled my craving. The inside is simple and clean, a basic look that every Indian restaurant has. We ordered pani puri, idli and Mysore masala dosa. The pani puri came with 10 puris and was good, I did wish that there was tamarind chutney given. The Mysore masala dosa was excellent, crispy and had just amount of potato filling. It only came with a green mint chutney and the sambar. The idli plate had 3 idils and came with chutney and sambar. I didn't try the idli but my grandma said that it was perfect. We decided to do takeout from Uru Swati, but I wasn't really impressed:( I think this restaurant might be better for their South Indian food, but I ordered their North Indian dishes (my review is based off of those). The paneer makhani gravy was too thin, and the dish tasted too sour. I know that's not how it's supposed to be. The dal makhani was okay, but the lentils could've been cooked for longer (they were a tad bit hard). A good dal makhani should have lentils that are "pillowy soft" in texture. The dal could've also been more creamy. The veg kesari biryani didn't give me "biryani vibes" (seemed to look more like a combination of tomato rice/pulao), but I liked the addition of paneer. In terms of service, I can't say much (we did takeout), but the food was prepared and delivered in a timely manner. I also liked how the restaurant was doing "buy one get one free" for all the entrees we ordered through uber eats. read more

Ordered a delivery from Uru Swathi. We have ordered Baigan Bharta and Cheese Paratha. Paratha comes with Dhall Makhani, Raita and some pickle. Entree comes with Basmati Rice. Overall the food was okay and no complains. Dhall Makhani tasted bit milder/Sweeter taste. Cheese Paratha was slightly flavorless. Other than that everything was good. I am giving this place five starts instead of the four it really deserves, only because most of the other Indian places on Devon are zero to one stars. The food here is good, not bombarded with spices and chilies the way the other Indian restaurants think they have to make it in order to make it look authentic. Most Indian home cooked food does not make you regret it when you need to use the toilet the next day. The tea that one of our party ordered was cold. We have only done take out so can't say much about service. Prices are a bit on the higher side but the portions are reasonable and food quality is good.
