Chicken tikka masala over rice with lettuce, tomato, and onions
    Daniel Y.

Klay Oven Kitchen is a small mom and pop Indian spot in the French Market. You'll pay about $10 for a wrap or rice box after tax. I ordered the chicken tikka masala, and it came with a piping hot naan wrapped in foil to keep warm. Service is fast, and you can get your order just plain, or have lettuce, tomato, and onion to complement your order. The naan is soft, and just enough to pick up the sauce. The chicken was very tender, but I could tell it was cooked much earlier as it exhibited a little bit of that "would have been better a couple hours ago." I think KOK could take a page from Chipotle and other fast casual restaurants, especially food court establishments. It'd be nice for the price to be able to get two different items instead of just the one. Serviceable food, but I know it can be better especially for the price.

Overall: Very average Indian take out. I've had worse, but I've definitely had better. Guess you can't complain too much with the amount of room they have to work with. The good: Service was friendly and helpful. The portion sizes are very nice and their naan is respectable for being a carry out place. Was hot and tasty overall. The bad: I branched out since I've never gotten Indian meatballs; they weren't great. They were very bland. The vindaloo was okay but I've had much better. Atmosphere: N/A Service: 8/10 Food: 6/10

    Chicken Tikka Masala Rice Bowl

I actually really like this French Market vendor. It might not satisfy your Indian food craving, but it's still a solid lunch option in the loop. I've had the chicken tikka rice bowl, and while it's not as heavy or flavorful as what'd you expect from that dish...it still tastes fresh and the portions are satisfying. The spinach paneer dish isn't bad too, and you can turn your bowl into a combo if you like. Yes the accompanying bread is kind of like pita, but it's still good. If you want something that resembles Indian food and you don't want the typical stomach challenges associated with the cuisine, Klay Oven Kitchen is kind of the way to go.

Came on a whim to the French Market, and glad we did! The server at The Klay Oven Kitchen took great care of us. Had the veggie samosas, followed by the vegan Dal Makhani- Black lentils simmered in a tomato garam masala sauce topped with spicy slaw, tomato, and pickled red onions. Everything was highly flavorful and plentiful. I crave Indian food every few weeks. Been doing that for years. A dozen or so different restaurants later I have found THE PLACE. The menu is small by comparison but everything they make is delicious. I now consider myself a regular, both dine in or take out. Can't go wrong here!

For lunch especially, the quality and portion sizes are amazing for the price. The service was extremely friendly and welcoming. It truly feels like a family-owned restaurant, and the staff consistently checked in on our table to make sure we were enjoying everything. We ordered a variety of dishes. My favorite by far was the chicken tikka masala - rich, flavorful, and very satisfying. The tandoori chicken, however, was just average to me; it was a bit overcooked and lacked flavor. I also really enjoyed the Josh Rogan and the mango lassi, both of which were great. The ambiance is nice and comfortable, but the wait can be quite long, so keep that in mind. Despite the wait, this has become my go-to spot when I'm craving Indian food. Great value, warm service, and mostly excellent food make it worth returning.

Food is below-average, service is good, and the ambience is bland and unappetizing…read more I am beyond surprised that this restaurant receives such great reviews when there is better Indian food in the city. To start with, my dining companion and I ordered the gobi manchurian, which was delicious. As a native Bangalorean, I take my gobi manchurian seriously, and was quite impressed with Maharaj's iteration (since then, I think they may have removed the Gobi Manchurian from the menu: it was great while it lasted!). My companion and I assumed that the stellar gobi would herald an even more incredible main course, but were quickly proven wrong. The malai kofta was insipid and texturally confusing. The gravy was tasteless and the kofta balls were simultaneously both chewy and crumbly. Listen: I love malai kofta, because as the name suggests, cream is the central ingredient. It is sometimes possible to paper over deficiencies in a malai kofta with extra cream, but alas, that was not the case here. It was close to inedible. The naan tasted like grocery store frozen naan: even Trader Joe's makes better naan. The bhindi masala was oily and not too flavourful. We did not dare order more at that point. On the plus side, our server, whose first day on the job it was, was super sweet. He made sure we were well-looked after, and gave us complimentary masala chai. The chai was lukewarm and overly milky, with little fresh masala. The decor consists of stereotypically Indian art of dubious quality. The seats were comfortable, and the restaurant was filled with South Asian people, which usually bodes well for an Indian restaurant. I continue to be baffled by that. It's entirely possible that it was just a bad day for the chef, but I don't think I want to risk another visit. Overall, as much as I want to support Indian restaurants in the city, I cannot in good faith recommend Maharaj.

In a neighborhood packed with serious restaurant competition, Kama manages to carve out a distinct lane: refined, flavor-forward Indian food that still feels recognizably Indian and approachable. The space is beautiful--dark, romantic, and sultry without being overdone, with dramatic murals and a moody glow that makes it feel like a proper night-out destination. It's polished but comfortable--perfect for date nights, celebrations, or a dressed-up family dinner like ours. They were especially kind and welcoming, even with our child and an early Sunday reservation. Service * Warm reception and easy seating for an early family dinner * Knowledgeable server who walked us through dishes thoughtfully * Celebrated my parents' anniversary with complimentary champagne and a sparkler dessert moment * Attentive pacing throughout Drinks * Smoke Show Manhattan - bourbon americano, Amaro Lusano, crème de cacao, walnut bitters; slightly sweet, smoky, and beautifully balanced * Pisco Inferno - pisco, mango, and passion fruit chutney; bright, layered, and vibrant with subtle heat * Cocktail program feels intentional and refined Starters * Sweet Potato Chaat - vibrant, flavorful, and nicely balanced * Lamb Tacos - small but packed with flavor; great shareable bites Portions on starters are on the smaller side, which works well if you want to sample several. Mains (all paired with rice) * Black Cod Kerala Curry - standout dish; outrageously flavorful and rich * Chilean Sea Bass Molly - delicate, beautifully cooked, and a hit at the table * Butter Chicken - classic and well-executed * Achari Curry (Chicken) - solid but the least impressive of the group We also added garlic naan and naan, though the curries already come with rice. The lemon rice was especially notable-- fully infused and bold rather than lightly scented. Dessert * Chai Tiramisu - a creative twist with cardamom and warm Indian spice notes; familiar structure, elevated flavor Verdict Kama's West Loop location delivers a complete dining experience--beautiful setting, thoughtful service, and deeply layered curries that stand out in a crowded restaurant corridor. It's elevated without being pretentious, traditional without being boring. A confident five stars and a strong addition to the Randolph lineup.

Goan Sour was a nice surprise as I normally dont like cocktails that include any kind of tea, but they made it work nicely. The Bhoomi Burger far exceeded all expectations! Believe it or not, the only thing this nitpicker…read morecan find fault with is that the burger was a little messy to eat - but that's to be expected. More on that later. I find most fast-casual burger places make something decent, and some make hockey pucks. Meanwhile, this one is leaps and bounds above the rest. The lamb patty on its own was not only soft and well-seasoned, but also brimming with flavor. Then I took a bite of the whole thing and temporarily bounced up to food heaven. The herbaceous, savory, and earthy notes of their chimmichutney took the burger to another level. The veggies added some additional freshness, with the avocado and mayo contributing even more savory notes. Big bonus points for a fresh bun, too! On messiness: The container was small enough that I could barely slide my hands in to grab the burger. This, combined with the somewhat slippery chimmichutney, meant that keeping the burger together was a difficult and losing battle. No worries - less chimmichutney would mean less flavor, and I have no issues eating anything (burgers included) with a fork. Simply, I'd hope Bhoomi Modern Indian Grill considers larger containers for these... otherwise, don't upset the balance! Finally, credit to the service for being kind, friendly, and giving me something hot and fresh after about five minutes! Thus, Bhoomi Burger quickly earned a spot on my favorites. The whole experience was all-around fantastic, and I can't wait to bring all my friends here.
