Based on the name, momos are clearly the go-to order from here. I usually order takeout from Momo World, which does affect the quality a little I think. Dumplings are always going to taste better fresh versus 30 minutes later after delivery. While I think the other menu items taste fine, the momos are in a league of their own. Food is Nepali and there's some spices here that really flavor the momos (dumplings) and other items on the menu here. This is my second time at this place and I came back because I do like all the flavors they have for their momos and wanted to try some more. I do think some of their flavors are better than others, which is what stops this from being a 5 star review. Like we both found the chocolate momos to be Bad and regretted trying them (I love to try a fun food item) - the chocolate was sickly sweet and the dough was thick and the combination just did not go well together. We did get the fettucine alfredo momos and the momo chaats and we enjoyed those. I think Momo World has some of the better momos I've tried in Chicago, but I probably would stick more to their fun but not too fun flavors. This is the ultimate comfort food :) I've been here several times and also ordered takeout a few times. All the momos are so good it's hard to pick!! They are juicy, plump dumplings with a ton of flavor and I love how saucy they are. Order any momo and you're sure to be satisfied! I recently ordered the vegetarian lunch special, which includes a veggie butter masala samosa, veggie biryani, and 3 plump veggie samosas. It also comes with yogurt sauce and 2 other sauces for the samosa!What a deal!! About $12 for a ton of delicious hot food! I took home half as leftovers so it turned out to be about 2 filling meals. Momo World is a big, wonderful surprise. It is a fairly basic environment and BYOB, situated next to the UIC campus so it has a comfortable college atmosphere. We (14 of us) were there for a work dinner and had some skeptical colleagues - until the food started to arrive. Everyone almost fell off their chairs over how good. Momo's are dumpling from Nepal/ Northern India. As none of us had these before, we asked the serving team to bring us their favorites and bring a lot. We kept eating and they kept serving more and different. We all thought that everything was fantastic ( even our skeptics). In discussions since our visit, this restaurant is regularly brought up by our team as a wonderful, big surprise choice. I recommend Momo World highly. While it is a bit different, the food is not unusual or strange, other than the dumplings are called Momos. read more

Okay one of my favorite Nepalese spots in town! Me and my man randomly discovered this place when I first moved to Chitown for school. One of my favorite places to try different momos. Parking is on side streets and you have to pay $2.50/hour via the ParkChicago app. There's also a large there's no parking on the direct street right next to this place but there's a parking garage nearby where you can pay three dollars for two hours though it was free during graduation for college families. Chicago offers some of the best Himalayan/Nepalese food I have ever had. If you're a fan of dumplings and spices, Momo World is a must-try spot. Momo World offers Himalayan-style dumplings that are a must try. I was a huge fan of their Jhol Momos, as they are juicy, tender and perfectly spiced. I really liked the sauce that comes with the Jhol Momos and enjoyed dipping the naan in it. I also tried their Chili Momos and, wow, they were spicy! Tossed in a fiery sauce, their Chili Momos are crispy and worth a try if you can handle the spice. Outside of their dumplings, I recommend trying their goat biryani. Be careful of the bones as they are small and can catch you by surprise! The atmosphere is warm and welcoming and the staff is friendly. The staff recommended me some of their favorites, and their advice was super helpful since I am not too familiar with Himalayan/Nepalese cuisine. Highly, highly recommend! This hole in the wall restaurant near UIC serves some of the best Indian street food. Specializing in momos (Indian dumplings), they offer a variety of toppings suitable for all sorts for diets! We tried a bunch of the fried ones and were especially impressed by the manchurian momos and samosa chaat momos! The masala fries were soo buttery and rich and I couldn't stop eating them! They tandoori ones def have a charred taste to it so make sure you know what you're getting into! Looking back, I'd probably skip out on the plain fried momos and try a steamed version! This place has been on my list a while. If you order correctly, this could be a solid 4. My experience was just more of a 3.4. The pros: massive, wide-ranging menu. Wasn't expecting to be able to order chow mein and butter chicken and momos all in this cute space. The staff were also friendly and helpful. The menu pasted on the counter has pictures for noobs like me. There is self-serve water, utensils, etc and a decent amount of seating. It was quite empty on a Saturday evening, and I feel like most of their business is delivery and pickup. The tandoori momos we got were pretty good and interesting. Portion sizes are fine. And you're quite close to a bunch of dessert places if you want a post-dinner treat. The not-so-pros: in addition to the tandoori momos, we got the aloo Gobi and the chicken curry I forgot the actual name of. Both of those were lackluster in comparison to the momos, and not very flavorful. The momos themselves were slightly dry, too, and not as juicy as I hoped. For the momos and 2 rice dishes we also paid ~50 (including tax, not tip), so it is a little pricy for a more casual-style restaurant (portion sizes are decent, though). They also have bathrooms inside, but both had "out of order" signs on them. But seemed fully functional, and I really needed to pee, so I went anyway and it was fine. So yeah - possibly no bathrooms inside, and if you're more considerate than me, you should check with the staff to see what those signs are about. Tl;dr a nice place on UIC campus that I definitely wish I had had as a sad college student surrounded by bad food choices. Stick to the momos, the name says it all. The table near us also seemed to enjoy the chow mein. Would come again to try more momos if I'm in the area! read more

They come swimming in a vibrant orange sauce, or sometimes with dipping sauces. Pretty cool! Now let's get to the taste--I am not sure what I'm not getting. I had the original momo, the fish momo, and the butter masala momo. Although I could taste the the unique spices in the dumpling fillings, they were just not blowing me away in terms of flavor. I didn't have this excitement to keep eating them, you know? You know when you're eating really good soup dumplings, and you can't wait to try another one, down to the point where you're doing mental math to see how many more you'll get to eat between you and the other diners? I had none of that. Out of the three, though, I would have to say my favorite was the butter chicken momo--so velvety and creamy! Hubby and I were in the area and found Momo World on Yelp. We've never had Nepalese food before so we wanted to try it out. I placed an online order which mentioned that our order would be ready within 20 minutes but it took at least 45 minutes before it was prepared. We shared the paneer momo, tandoori chicken momo, and butter chicken masala momo. They were better than I had expected and I overate since I wanted to keep eating. The butter chicken masala momo were so flavorful and I kept using the sauce to dip the paneer momo in. I would probably pass on the paneer momo next time since I could barely taste the paneer and it was pretty bland without any sauce. The tandoori chicken momo was decent but was dry due to the way it was prepared (not sure if this is avoidable). The flavor of the tandoori chicken momo was still good and was slightly spicy. My husband is a fan of momos as street food. I tend to make dumplings at home, and I'm pretty good, so I was ready to not be impressed. So away we travel 40 minutes to tiny little eatery to try our luck. And i must say, i was pleasantly surprised. We had both the Khukura Chicken and the Fish Momos. Both were delicious, although I preferred the Khukura Chicken. The highlight, for me, were the Masala Fries. Ordered delivery from here and I wasn't disappointed. I'd been wanting to try this style of dumpling after seeing some on the food network, and im so glad it lived up to the hype. The food arrived quick and was still warm, always a plus. We had the chicken momo, tandoori chicken momo, paneer momo, and loaded fries. Everything was fantastic! We tried all the available sauces, and while they were all delicious the momo are great on their own. The only reason they lose a star is not all the listed momos were available, specifically the pork flavor I wanted to try and the spiral cut potatoes. It's about time that we get a great spot for Nepali and South Asian cuisine here in Chicago. When I saw Momo World opening up, I knew I had to check it out before I left Chicago, and am so glad I did. The restaurant is small and you place your order at the counter first before getting a number and waiting for it to be called. The counter feels awkwardly long but that's due to the previous restaurant's layout requiring such a long counter. The menu is divided into a few sections, essentially their momo (dumplings), grilled/rice plates, and dessert. It's a tad confusing at first based on how they designed the menu but you'll figure it out eventually. Each of the dinner plates come with naan, yellow rice, and "salad" which is honestly some cucumbers and sliced carrots. Nothing too crazy. We ordered the Fish Momo ($10) which were utterly fantastic! The dumpling skin was delightful and the fish inside tasted extremely fresh. Despite not having tried their other dumplings, I felt really good about choosing the fish. Afterwards, we had their Goat Curry ($10) and Pork Skewers ($10). Loved the curry and its spiciness although we wish there was a bit more for us to share. The pork skewers were great too but definitely on the drier side. They also serve assorted juices including green tea lemonade and guava. I ended up mixing the guava with the former, and then with some club soda to give it that extra kick. It was definitely bomb. For dessert, we tried their Mango Kulfi ($5) which was sadly a bit too runny despite having come out of the freezer. Not bad but I'd pass next time. I really hope Momo World stays for a while. All too often, shops in the area close down due to a lack of business but this one truly deserves to last for a while because their cooking is great. Tried this place with 2 friends, one of whom saw this on Eater and suggested it. Great call I must say. This is why we are friends. Momoworld was a solid introduction for me to Nepalese cuisine. Walking in, you are greeted by a large high boy table and some other standard height tables. You can fit a few good sized groups in here. The decor is earthy with nice ethnic appointments and decorations. The music was lively pop, a nice modern contrast to the decor. The menu is clearly organized above the counter and the cashier was super helpful explaining the menu for us and sharing her recommendations. The three of us approached this like Asian family style, being a trio of Indian, Filipino, and Chinese, this is natural and awesome to maximize menu exposure. We did 2 orders of momo dumplings, chicken in the tomato (I forgot name) soup and boiled pork. We also ordered a goat biryani and Himalayan Tornado fries. Can't forget a regular Lassi for each of us. The Lassi was excellent, my picky Indian friend also complimented this, affirming our unified praise. The momos remind me of a Chinese Xia o Lung Bao externally, but with a heavier skin, more filling, and no soup inside. In steamed or soup form, they were the highlight of the meal. The mildly spicy tomato soup was delicious, we were drinking it and pouring it on the biryani. The goat biryani packed serious flavor, nice chunks of meat, and strong heat. Tornado fries were spiralized and thick cut, served on skewers with a green, grassy sauce. A nice change from regular spuds. She chose for us: Kasi Ko Masu - a bowl with goat meat curry, basmati rice and a tortilla (They called it "roti" but it was a tortilla). The dish was decent, flavorful and filling. Choela Momo - spicy curried dumplings with garlic and ginger and various other stuff...these were very tasty! A little bigger than a mouthful each and 10 to a plate. I would definitely order these again. Samosas - Big, tender, flaky and fresh! Yum! Nice green chutney but it was really runny. and a red sauce that was sweet and spicy. Delish! Mango lassi - smooth creamy yogurt drink, so yummy! Chocolate momo - the only disappointment of the meal. These were too hard, literally hard, to really enjoy the sweet flavor. I wish they had a steamed version rather than fried. And we added Himalatan Tornado fries which were medallion cut potatoes on a skewer. I loved the flaky crustiness! Momos!!! If you haven't had this Nepalese delight, Momos are a type of dumpling that are steamed, sometimes fried afterwards, and filled with Nepalese spices. My favorites so far are the Tandoori momos (crispy momos with a smoky flavor) and the sadeko momos (steamed momos with vegetables and sesame flavor). Biryani is a must-order when coming here. One order of biryani will give about 5-6 servings and is very flavorful without being overly spicy. The samosas are a great bargain at $1.50/piece if you want an appetizer or a snack. They come with a green and red chutney as well. Me and my girlfriend order a biryani and two types of momos so we have plenty of leftovers to enjoy later! For takeout orders -- there's no parking on Maxwell St but if you have a passenger you can pull over to the side with your blinkers and have your passenger run in and get it.
