We visited Nepal House on Michigan Street for lunch around 1:30pm on Sunday (03/29/2026). The place was empty when we first walked in, but it started filling up shortly after, which was nice to see. The atmosphere was calm and relaxed, perfect for a chill lunch. We kept it simple with water for drinks and ordered the chili chicken as an appetizer. It leaned more tomatoey than spicy, with a mild heat level, but still really tasty. For mains, we got the Chicken Madras and Khasi ko maasu (Nepali goat curry), both served with white basmati rice. We also ordered the bread basket, which came with naan, garlic naan, and onion naan. Everything paired really well together, super satisfying with both the rice and naan. The server asked about our preferred spice level for the goat curry, and we chose regular. It actually wasn't spicy at all, which worked perfectly for us. Our total came out to around $80, which felt like a great deal considering how much food we had left over, we packed everything up and basically got dinner out of it too. I stopped by yesterday for a late lunch and was blown away. I started with veggie samosas which were humongous and delicious! I loved the green sauce on the side. It was slightly spicy and complimented them so well. I got full off the 2 samosas and was unable to eat my entree, veggie vindaloo with a side of naan. But, I nibbled it and the flavor was amazing. I boxed it up for lunch tomorrow. They have a robust vegetarian menu and will make some dishes vegan upon request. I'm a fan. read more

Made it back to Nepal House and it was very very good! This time we got the mixed veg pakoras too which were super crispy and honestly some of the best I've had (coming from someone who has had many veg pakoras). The paneer bhurji is also very good and the mango lassi was delicious. They also give complimentary rice with the curries and the service was great. Highly recommend stopping by! read more

I really appreciated that the menu pointed out which dishes could be made vegan. A lot of South Asian dishes will contain ghee or butter and this isn't typically specified on menus at other restaurants in my experience. We ordered the Chana masala and the bhindi. Service was pretty good and the place is set up pretty cute like a date spot. My friends and I got the bread basket, lamb biryani, cauliflower, chicken curry, and the fired chicken momos. I would say everything tasted a bit underseasoned except for the fried chicken momos. The naan were a little too flour-y for my liking and the curry tasted a bit watered down. I enjoyed some delicious Lamb Korma here on a quieter Thursday afternoon. The serving was plentiful and the curry was incredibly flavorful without being spicy. It was quite Ok. The noodles and veggie momos were fine. But basic things like Dal and Tandoori roti were missing the mark. We could not finish it. The Dal was too dry, and the roti was so thick and doughy. Also ordered aloo tama bodi, which we had many times before at various places, this one had a strange smell and flavor. I don't know how we haven't eaten here before. We love Indian food and this place is literally 2 minutes away. We dined in last night with some friends. I ordered the butter chicken and my husband ordered the tikka masala. And we ordered the bread (naan) basket for the table. Wow-everything we ordered was so delicious. I tasted my friends biryani that she ordered and I loved all the flavors! It was my first time trying Biryani. It was a Friday night and the restaurant was actually super busy. When we arrived at 6:30 they were maybe at 50% capacity and by the time we left at 8 every table was full. I cannot wait to try more. I have forever been on the search for a good nepali restaurant in the Chicago downtown area and I'm happy to say that my search is now over. The food here is spot on every time. Finding Indian food isn't too hard around Chicago. It's a little harder finding Nepalese food. Nepal House is one of the few to go to, but it's not extremely unfamiliar, because the food from these countries have lots of similarities. Has some pretty authentic tasting food in a welcoming environment. The prices are kind of high, which is the only bad thing. Actually there's two locations of this locally owned business. It has one of these in the South Loop. This might be the better location for a few reasons. For one, it has a bigger bar. More of a drink selection. It also has more room in general. The last time here we got some of the vegetarian friendly menu. A bad thing is that entrees don't include naan, so you have to pay extra. It's $4 for a few pieces. That's on top of the entree prices. It gets expensive. That's the biggest complaint about this. I had the Palungoko Saag, which is a spinach entree. It's about $17 for a plate. This is fresh spinach sautéed with cumin, dry red chilis, fenugreek, garlic, ginger, and mustard seeds. It was good but too costly. She had the Bhindi Masala, which was sautéed okra and spices. Both of these entrees were spicy enough. The vegetables were cooked until soft without being mushy. Good place for some Nepalese food. It's a lot like Indian food if you didn't know. This is also quite similar to Indian food in high prices. read more
