We visited Nepal House on Michigan Street for lunch around 1:30pm on Sunday (03/29/2026). The place was empty when we first walked in, but it started filling up shortly after, which was nice to see. The atmosphere was calm and relaxed, perfect for a chill lunch. We kept it simple with water for drinks and ordered the chili chicken as an appetizer. It leaned more tomatoey than spicy, with a mild heat level, but still really tasty. For mains, we got the Chicken Madras and Khasi ko maasu (Nepali goat curry), both served with white basmati rice. We also ordered the bread basket, which came with naan, garlic naan, and onion naan. Everything paired really well together, super satisfying with both the rice and naan. The server asked about our preferred spice level for the goat curry, and we chose regular. It actually wasn't spicy at all, which worked perfectly for us. Our total came out to around $80, which felt like a great deal considering how much food we had left over, we packed everything up and basically got dinner out of it too. I stopped by yesterday for a late lunch and was blown away. I started with veggie samosas which were humongous and delicious! I loved the green sauce on the side. It was slightly spicy and complimented them so well. I got full off the 2 samosas and was unable to eat my entree, veggie vindaloo with a side of naan. But, I nibbled it and the flavor was amazing. I boxed it up for lunch tomorrow. They have a robust vegetarian menu and will make some dishes vegan upon request. I'm a fan. read more

This time we got the mixed veg pakoras too which were super crispy and honestly some of the best I've had (coming from someone who has had many veg pakoras). I really appreciated that the menu pointed out which dishes could be made vegan. A lot of South Asian dishes will contain ghee or butter and this isn't typically specified on menus at other restaurants in my experience. We ordered the Chana masala and the bhindi. I enjoyed some delicious Lamb Korma here on a quieter Thursday afternoon. The serving was plentiful and the curry was incredibly flavorful without being spicy. We also tried the vegetarian momos which came with a delicious sauce and the beautifully baked garlic naan that paired well with the curries we ordered. It was quite Ok. The noodles and veggie momos were fine. But basic things like Dal and Tandoori roti were missing the mark. We could not finish it. The Dal was too dry, and the roti was so thick and doughy. Also ordered aloo tama bodi, which we had many times before at various places, this one had a strange smell and flavor. Indian reviewing - food is good but very pricey. The goat biryani was dope and full of flavors. Their yogurt is very different from usual indo pak yogurt. Get goat biryani if you like bones otherwise lamb biryani for boneless meat. Butter chicken- it tasted more tomatoey than buttery. I tasted my friends biryani that she ordered and I loved all the flavors! It was my first time trying Biryani. It was a Friday night and the restaurant was actually super busy. Based on the name I'm assuming their Nepalese food is what shines but we ordered all Indian food that was standard and yummy. The tandoori foods were extremely good, everything else was standard and filling. This is a super accessible entry point at Devon for taking non-Indian people too. Their food is very easily appreciated by all and many vegetarian and non vegetarian options and service is nice too. Spice level was really low on everything we got so if you want more spice be sure to tell them up front. Mango lassi looked quite good. read more

I have forever been on the search for a good nepali restaurant in the Chicago downtown area and I'm happy to say that my search is now over. The food here is spot on every time. Finding Indian food isn't too hard around Chicago. It's a little harder finding Nepalese food. Nepal House is one of the few to go to, but it's not extremely unfamiliar, because the food from these countries have lots of similarities. Has some pretty authentic tasting food in a welcoming environment. The prices are kind of high, which is the only bad thing. Actually there's two locations of this locally owned business. It has one of these in the South Loop. This might be the better location for a few reasons. For one, it has a bigger bar. More of a drink selection. It also has more room in general. The last time here we got some of the vegetarian friendly menu. A bad thing is that entrees don't include naan, so you have to pay extra. It's $4 for a few pieces. That's on top of the entree prices. It gets expensive. That's the biggest complaint about this. I had the Palungoko Saag, which is a spinach entree. It's about $17 for a plate. This is fresh spinach sautéed with cumin, dry red chilis, fenugreek, garlic, ginger, and mustard seeds. It was good but too costly. She had the Bhindi Masala, which was sautéed okra and spices. Both of these entrees were spicy enough. The vegetables were cooked until soft without being mushy. Good place for some Nepalese food. It's a lot like Indian food if you didn't know. This is also quite similar to Indian food in high prices. read more
