    Vegetable biryani

This is my favorite spot for Indian takeout in West Loop. I have fond memories as it was one of the first spots we had takeout when we first moved to Chicago two years ago. The staff is friendly and the food is always ready really quickly (15-20 mins) even if you're ordering 8 dishes like I did. The food is always hot and fresh, their garlic naan is amazing, and it feels like a fair price for the amount of food you get. Tonight we had vegetable biryani, two garlic naans, chicken Tikka masala, chettinad chicken, Manchurian cauliflower, dal palak (lentils with spinach), and Hyderabadi Bagaraa Baingan (baby eggplant curry). The chicken tikka masala was delicious and creamy. The chettinad chicken is one of my favorite dishes when I'm in the mood for something spicy. I have a medium heat tolerance and this dish will make me take a breather in the middle of eating. The Manchurian cauliflower is great -- it's breaded cauliflower in a sweet and spicy sauce. Much better than those popular buffalo cauliflower anomalies. The dal palak container was so full it was about to burst. It's creamy and it's a great serving of vegetables and lentils. The Hyderabadi Bagaraa Baingan was really good too - it has a lemony sauce. However it only comes with 2 eggplants. The packaging does a great job retaining heat. The food was piping hot even after walking 15 minutes back to our condo. The garlic naan is wrapped in foil so that's perfectly hot and crisp too. There's street parking on Taylor street and you can leave your blinkers on to pick your food up real quick. Yelp has an option for reservations, but when I went it doesn't look like they have any dine-in options. Would love to dine in here one day.

My wife and I tried Indienne for the first time. We had the six course meal and the food was well presented and very delicious. The spice combination worked beautifully. Our server Matt was impeccable. He was very knowledgeable and helpful. Our only disappointment was the Manager. He seemed to acknowledge everyone else except for us. The ambiance has a nice cozy vibe. Our window seat was perfect.

Hot hot! Both on this incredibly sunny summer day in Chicago and also because this Indian curry restaurant is firing up the UIC Little Italy area. I've passed by this restaurant multiple times on my walks down Little Italy. I decided to finally try this place with a colleague and was pleasantly surprised. Don't let the outside fool you. While it looks small, the restaurant actually opens up with great atmosphere and decor to really compliment your dining experience. We each ordered the Tikka Masala ($15) one with chicken and one with lamb. It comes with a generous helping of curry and steamed basmati rice, while you can choose to add some naan-sense into your life. I went for their garlic naan but was sad to not see any kind of cheese or paneer option available. Oh well! The curry was definitely flavorful and spicy if you ask for that intensity. The spices were prevalent and every sniff of the curry brought satisfaction. Both the curry and the naan tasted great together and should definitely be a combination you explore. Out of the few curry joints in the area, I'd say Curry on Fire beats the competition. Sadly, they don't offer any sort of lunch deals so you'll be spending a similar price regardless of the time you frequent. Hopefully with enough recommenders asking for one they'll be able to change that.

Burnt Chettinad, takeout!, maybe thats why. Shame on the cook.

I was honestly so pleasantly surprised by this place. I've been trying to find an Indian restaurant…read morethat compares to the ones back home in Georgia, and Maharaj definitely came close. For lunch especially, the quality and portion sizes are amazing for the price. The service was extremely friendly and welcoming. It truly feels like a family-owned restaurant, and the staff consistently checked in on our table to make sure we were enjoying everything. We ordered a variety of dishes. My favorite by far was the chicken tikka masala - rich, flavorful, and very satisfying. The tandoori chicken, however, was just average to me; it was a bit overcooked and lacked flavor. I also really enjoyed the Josh Rogan and the mango lassi, both of which were great. The ambiance is nice and comfortable, but the wait can be quite long, so keep that in mind. Despite the wait, this has become my go-to spot when I'm craving Indian food. Great value, warm service, and mostly excellent food make it worth returning.

Food is below-average, service is good, and the ambience is bland and unappetizing…read more I am beyond surprised that this restaurant receives such great reviews when there is better Indian food in the city. To start with, my dining companion and I ordered the gobi manchurian, which was delicious. As a native Bangalorean, I take my gobi manchurian seriously, and was quite impressed with Maharaj's iteration (since then, I think they may have removed the Gobi Manchurian from the menu: it was great while it lasted!). My companion and I assumed that the stellar gobi would herald an even more incredible main course, but were quickly proven wrong. The malai kofta was insipid and texturally confusing. The gravy was tasteless and the kofta balls were simultaneously both chewy and crumbly. Listen: I love malai kofta, because as the name suggests, cream is the central ingredient. It is sometimes possible to paper over deficiencies in a malai kofta with extra cream, but alas, that was not the case here. It was close to inedible. The naan tasted like grocery store frozen naan: even Trader Joe's makes better naan. The bhindi masala was oily and not too flavourful. We did not dare order more at that point. On the plus side, our server, whose first day on the job it was, was super sweet. He made sure we were well-looked after, and gave us complimentary masala chai. The chai was lukewarm and overly milky, with little fresh masala. The decor consists of stereotypically Indian art of dubious quality. The seats were comfortable, and the restaurant was filled with South Asian people, which usually bodes well for an Indian restaurant. I continue to be baffled by that. It's entirely possible that it was just a bad day for the chef, but I don't think I want to risk another visit. Overall, as much as I want to support Indian restaurants in the city, I cannot in good faith recommend Maharaj.

My favorites were the soup chicken momo, mixed vegetable pakora, chicken tikka masala and alu paratha! You truly can't go wrong with anything. Business picked up a little over the next hour, but generally speaking it seems Thursdays are slow. The restaurant is beautiful. There were two people working out front. They were kind, but not overly ebullient. When ordering we asked if one serving of rice would be enough for two. She suggested we order two servings. We didn't need two servings. One bowl of the Basmati Rice was plenty for two...at least these two. I decided I wanted to try something different. We have had Momo before, but nothing like Chicken Momo Chili Fry (steamed dumplings of minced chicken seasoned with nepalese spices and herbs | fried | sauteed with green chili, bell peppers, onions, ginger and spicy garlic-chili paste). What an amazing dish! I'm not a huge fan of super spicy food, but the Chicken Momo Chili Fry was outstanding. The spiciness was spicy flavor, not just heat. They were delicious. And the veggies (green peppers and onions) were so tender and flavorful. If you are a fan of spicy then you need to try this dish. You will not be disappointed. Keeping with the 'trying new things' theme, I ordered Gorkhali Khasi (chunks of bone-in goat meat stewed in flavourful nepalese spices | a delicious spice forward sauce with tomatoes, onions and nepalese spices) with a side of Basmati Rice. The dish was very tasty, but the bone-in goat was a lot of work. Once off the bone (though I still ended up with bones in my mouth, which was nerve wracking) some of the pieces were tender and delicious. Other pieces were a bit gristly. Since the flavor was great, when we return I will likely order this dish with chicken. Mark ordered Chicken Tikka Masala (spice-marinated diced boneless white meat chicken cooked to perfection in tandoor | simmered in rich creamy tomato sauce). He raved about it! When he was finished it looked as if he has licked his bowl. In fact, he used some naan (we ordered Garlic Naan) to get every last drop of the sauce out of the bowl. The Garlic Naan was good, but I must have been full. I didn't finish one piece. There were four in a serving. I had to take a picture of the silver and gold wear. So very fancy, but a bit over the top. The plates were beautiful and were warm when they were brought to the table. We had a delightful meal. Oh... don't know if it is always like this, but we were there well over an hour. There was no rush whatsoever. Next time we are in town staying at City Suites, we will definitely return to Cumin!
