Our appointment was scheduled for 1:00-1:15 PM for our 3-week-old son's passport. We arrived early,…read moreat about 12:40 PM. We were called into the passport room at 1:00 PM. Passport Acceptance Clerk Avella P. identified two missing items: an email address and our baby's height. At about 1:02 PM, just two minutes into our 15-minute slot, she stated that making the corrections in the room would delay other appointments. She circled the missing items but did not explain that a new form was required or what our baby's photo needed. With 13 minutes left in our slot, the missing items were minor. If a new form was required, that should have been clearly explained, along with what would happen to our appointment. We were asked to leave the room while she served the next customer. When I politely asked whether we would be moved to the back of the line, she replied, "I don't know. My supervisor will speak to you." After we raised the issue with the supervisor on duty, a staff member named PRAWANDEEP (spelling may vary) assisted us at about 1:24 PM. We appreciate the help he provided. Newborns are especially vulnerable to illness, and we scheduled an appointment specifically to limit our son's time in public. Instead, we waited about 22 extra minutes near the counters in a crowded area, including people who were coughing, with no information on whether or when we would be seen. I understand applications must be complete, and my complaint is not about the procedure itself. It is about the clerk's customer service. Her manner throughout the interaction was dismissive. She gave us no clear guidance on how to fix our application and left us without any update on our appointment. We had to approach her ourselves, only to be told she did not know. While we were waiting, I also overheard her say, "And they expect this to be nice," after another customer who had asked her several questions left the counter. I am raising this so that other families, especially those with infants, receive courteous service and clear communication. I think this is the same person everyone's been talking about. But no action is done on the management side. So sad.

No supplies up front not even an industrial sized tape for customers to wrap packages while waiting in a super long line. Pens either non-existant or not working. Rude staff, mean staff, underpaid but no excuse to be rude to paying customers. But what choice do we have drive 5 or 10 miles to next town and send out items to another post office center or Annex. Not much we really can do but deal with. There is a self service. If anything the self service kiosk is more friendly than the staff. It even told me to have a nice day. The saving grace of my trip to the post office. Can't leave without my forever stamps.

Cathy, on the other hand....I guess depending on her mood. I caught eye contact with her before when I felt she was being rude. Then another day she seems nice, but its all a facade (If you aren't happy, find a new job because this one requires consistent good customer service). The other ladies are nice, its just simple, no drama. This location has a slightly lower price for p.o boxes, which is why I rent one there.

I dropped off a package to ship priority mail on the 28th of June. I created the shipping label on June 27th. Today is July 2nd. It still says, "label created" even though I dropped it off. On July 1st I contacted the actual J Street Post office. An extremely rude Asian lady answered the phone. When I started to ask my question about my package, she just started loudly yelling. I tried to stop her from yelling. I told her to stop talking over me. I tried to maintain my composure, until I just hung up on her. Besides them being lazy, they're rude too.

After I completed the form, she told me two pages were missing and made me fill them out again, which wasted a lot of time and caused unnecessary frustration. As I was just finishing, she told me the customer behind me would be helped first because my transaction "took too long," even though the delay was caused by missing paperwork on her part. When entering my address, she mistyped the letter U as N. While handwriting can sometimes be unclear, she did not confirm with me before printing everything. When I asked for a pen to correct it, she refused and said she typed exactly what I wrote, without taking responsibility for verifying such an important detail. I cannot pay over $100 in postage with an incorrect address. She showed no willingness to correct the mistake or help resolve the issue. This lack of care, accuracy, and customer service is unacceptable.

I had a great experience, and I'll continue coming back to this location. It is located in a small plaza. There's plenty of parking on the street and in the plaza. It's a very small post office. When I went on a weekday afternoon, there was only one person working. However, he was so kind and friendly! He was patient even though people kept coming in. You know, for a lot of us, it's just one errand we are completing when we interact with the post office staff. For them, it's their whole day. It does take grace to deal with the whole variety that they encounter. While I waited in line, 3 people interrupted and cut in front of me to ask their own questions. It was honestly pretty rude. However, the gentleman handled it gracefully. A tip? It doesn't matter if you're there to "just buy one stamp" -- please wait your turn like the rest of us. Your time is not more valuable.

Another quick update on this US Post Office…read more As mentioned, this place is not a huge post office. It's small. I've stopped by this place a couple times last month to send out both Christmas cards and Passport renewal. Both times, it was quite quick. I may have waited once as there was one person in front of me, but after they resolved their sending, it was in and out for me in terms of payment. Both times there's a lovely lady who helped me out with a smile. Parking can be a hassle as there's only a small lot, and be careful because folks don't look when they come out of their spots. I've gotten hit almost a couple times as people quickly pulled out of their spots. But I think that's just something to be cautious of when in a parking lot. Otherwise, nice to have a small spot to help with my postal needs.
