This was the worst post office experience I have had. The clerk gave me a form to fill out but failed to include two pages. After I completed the form, she told me two pages were missing and made me fill them out again, which wasted a lot of time and caused unnecessary frustration. As I was just finishing, she told me the customer behind me would be helped first because my transaction "took too long," even though the delay was caused by missing paperwork on her part. When entering my address, she mistyped the letter U as N. While handwriting can sometimes be unclear, she did not confirm with me before printing everything. When I asked for a pen to correct it, she refused and said she typed exactly what I wrote, without taking responsibility for verifying such an important detail. I cannot pay over $100 in postage with an incorrect address. She showed no willingness to correct the mistake or help resolve the issue. This lack of care, accuracy, and customer service is unacceptable. read more

Beware. If you want to drop off mail in a collection box after "regular business hours", know there are no longer collection boxes in front of this Smith Street Post Office location. The collection boxes were removed due to mail theft. You are limited to dropping off mail inside the lobby from Monday-Friday, 9:30 AM to 4:30 PM. read more

When's the last time you went to an establishment that had employees (that aren't custodians) cleaning the front of the business? A government establishment at that! NEVER! This is what I call pride in what you do! I got to this post office before it was due to open and watched as the employee came out to sweep the front of the office. This office is small and because of COVID a line did form quickly and only 4 people were allowed at a time inside. I was lucky enough to be 3rd in line. Once in, service was efficient, friendly and quick! I was there for stamps and she made sure to ask if this was for a special occasion so she could get me specific ones. Loved the attention to detail. Union City is lucky to have such a neighborhood gem. read more

No ling lines and super friendly staff. Been going here for over 30 years now and still getting the same courtesy and care. The asian and hispanic ladies are awesome and very friendly and even reminded me of stamps if we needed more etc. Dont believe the bad reviews and just drop by and experience for yourself. I love this post office! It is so easy to get in and out as they allow you to drop off your packages without needing to stand in line (as long as your package is ready to mail and you don't require a receipt). It is more convenient than the post office on Alvarado, and the staff is friendlier too. Since it's a small, one employee post office, they do close for lunch but unfortunately that lunch hour time slot depends on who is working that day. They will close anytime between noon and 2 p.m. for an hour tomatoes hour and a half. Driving thru the area around school pick up time can also be challenging since Alvarado elementary school is extremely close. It is still a really great post office. read more

There's a lovely Filipina woman who works here most days; she is AWESOME and so very helpful. I've been coming to this post office for years and she's so consistent with her positive attitude and helpfulness. This is a smaller USPS location, but it can still take your large packages and offers packing and shipping materials. Amounts can sometimes be in short supply, especially around the holidays, but I like this location because there is typically a much shorter wait than going to the larger post offices on Alvarado or in Fremont. With that said, there's also no parking lot. Ample street parking is available with a 15-min parking zone just in front of the location. You shouldn't have a hard time finding a parking spot. There's a school zone just halfway down the block, so traffic is slower around school start and end times, but I've never had a problem getting in or out of this USPS. Mail lady was very rude. I walked in at 3:50 to get boxes and send 4 packages. The hours on the door said that the office window hours were till 4:30. I picked up the boxes I needed, and started packing them up at a counter across the room from the mail window. I was quiet and keeping to myself.The mail lady asks from across the room if I "really need to ship the 5 boxes today?" I said I only have 4, and yes if it's possible. She tries to tell me that she can't help me and that I should comeback tomorrow. I was already almost done packing up the boxes, taped up and address already written, it wasn't even 4:00. She tries to tell me again that I should just come back tomorrow because I'm taking too long. I understand that it's post holidays and no one wants to be at work, but if I still have over 30 mins until the window closes... why can't I send them? As I was packing the boxes she was helping other customers no problem. When I walked up to the counter she looked irritated that I was sending the boxes. She asks if I have anything fragile in the boxes and as I say no she proceeds to chuck every single box into the bin... it was right next to her. Time check, it's 4:05 and I purchased more tape to tape the last box, while she's processing the first 3. Admittedly I was struggling, but as I am putting the last piece of tape, she tries to grab the package and check to see if it's sealed... obviously not, if I'm still trying to tape it. It took me 1 minute. And she is sighing and obviously irritated with me. I left the post office by 4:08. The customer service was rude, and made the process inconvenient and slower than it should've been. If you don't want to go to work, don't take it out on the customers. read more

Nice to have a small post office around the corner. But wish mail and specially packages could be held here for me to pickup after work instead of dropped off at my house. My mailbox is not big enough for packages so they are left at my front door and risk theft. It would be nice and I recommended it for local residents for this reason. Give a 24 to 48 pickup period or it can be sent to the larger location a few miles down the road. read more

I went to the Smith Street location in Union City, which has been my favorite for many years, even though I live in Hayward. The location is very convenient for me and always had very knowledgeable employees like Lena and a man before her who's name does not come to mind, he retired some time back. I was there on Tuesday and to be honest, I felt very UNSAFE !!! The person working there that day, was not wearing her face mask properly and her nose was uncovered. This post office has nearly no parking since it's on a pretty busy street with no parking lot and in the midst of a school zone. It also can gather a long line once you're inside during busier hours. However if you come early morning or when it isn't too busy the lady that is always there to check me out is super friendly and even recognizes me every time I go witch is nice. They offer everything that any general post office does, they have a row of P.O. Boxes, you can ship out packages, and even buy stamps and such. This is a pretty small location but it is really convenient when you're the area and everyone is always so friendly when I stop by! Would recommend. read more

Who knew this United States Post Office existed here in this part of Union City!? It's located next door to a Museum, Park and across the street is a school. It's a very odd location for a Post Office in my opinion...lolz. The workers here are very friendly and because it is a small post office, there can be a wait at certain times throughout the day. However, it does get the job done, so whoo! Parking can be a problem during the day because there is a Museum, Park, and School all near the post office. Overall, 4 stars. read more

Yesterday, 8/11/2014, I needed to send my Finance Project II overnight to Professor Moore so when I found out this post office nearby work open at 9:30am, I made sure to be there by 9:15 just to find out there's already 1 person ahead of me. When it was my turn, I found Lena (the Post Office lady) is very fast, friendly, courteous, sweet and polite. At the very end, she asked to see if I needed any stamps or passport application. I told her, "No, thanks." Also on this trip, I found out that for the same overnight service, Post Office charges me $19.99 vs. FedEx overnight is $25.50. I definitely would come back here anytime to do my mailing chores since it's literally 4 minute from my work and Lena's service is awesome. read more

I am completely disgusted by this location. I was treated horribly by the short older asian lady working at one of the slots. I waited about 20 minutes in line with 4 people ahead of me. I had 4 packages that needed to be scanned and wanted a receipt. I do this because in the past they would forget to scan my package, so i do this for reassurance. It's my turn and I tell her I want a receipt for these packages, she starts to have an attitude with me for no reason. She tells me she has a long line and to drop them off at the other window. I specifically wanted them to be scanned and needed a receipt. These packages were for my business, I couldn't risk them getting lost. She continues to argue about the long line for another two minutes, when she could've used those few minutes to give me a receipt for my packages? I told her I'll just go to another post office, and she responds with " good!". She then tells me she can scan the most important one, but I needed all of them scanned. Now I wasted 30 minutes of my time in that post office just to get denied service. She let this couple in front of me scan their packages and receive a receipt. She was overly nice with them, but had an attitude with me. Not sure what her problem was & why she couldn't just be nice towards me. AVOID this post office at ALL costs! Go to the one in Hayward, Newark, or Fremont. I had way better experiences at any other location than this one. This location is complete garbage and will treat you with disrespect. read more

This is my favorite post office to go to in Union City. Out of the two, this place is a lot more calm and typically in & out. The lines aren't too long and the employees are really friendly and know what they are doing. The employee today gave me more information that I really needed. I dropped off a package and she informed me that this type of package takes about a week to get delivered, the tracking number is on the receipt and that the USPS keeps the records of the tracking for two months. Information, I didn't need! Other than the tracking information; everything else was just extra. Do I still need in the info? No, but I sure do appreciate it. My suggestion is going at a down time. Middle of the week, sometimes during the middle of the day. When I go, it is usually around the 11am to 1pm timeframe. Usually there are 1-2 people in front of me, my hope is no one - like today!! It is also a lot slower since it is summer and there isn't school right now. Never go after 2pm during school days, its going to be horrible getting around. Parking can be difficult, somewhat. There is no parking lot, rather, there is street parking. Depending on the time and part of the year, you may have to walk closer or farther. read more

A small post office with a big heart! Lena, the lady behind the counter, is a genuine soul. She is warm, personable, knowledgeable, and very helpful. She certainly knows the ins and outs of the post office. I brought two big bottles of supplements to ship internationally and she told me which package material & international shipment method would be more practical; how long it would take to deliver door-to-door; possible Customs issues to expect (which in the end was zilch); and the customer service website and phone number for delivery tracking and shipment problems. She anticipated all of my questions and provided the information before I could even ask. In the end, she asked if I needed any domestic stamps or passport application. :-) Now, that is exceptional customer service. read more

The lady wasn't helpful at all and continued to berate my mom instead of trying to assist her on what to do right. Smaller is better! I don't think a lot of people know that there is a post office here. Street parking right in front (10 minute parking). I like this post office other than the Hayward one since their collection times are a lot earlier. Here it is at 11am and 4pm. Hayward is 2:30pm and 5pm. Location is nice. In a small area next to a park. There is also bronco Billy's right down the street if you are feeling for some pizza or toppings if you want some Filipino food. If I didn't live so far this would be my go to post office. read more

Is it cuz I am getting older, or are smaller shops the way to go?? I like this post office better than the main one because it is cozier due to its small quarters. The people working there are nicer, too, although my favorite guy has recently retired. From buying my much needed Disney stamps (Awww, what do you mean you're out?) to shipping a package to far away friends, this branch is the one to go to. I started a small hustle with reselling items and she answered all my questions even when there was a line behind me. She made sure I knew the process was and what to use to mail packages using ground versus air. I attempted to go to this USPS location; which is located on a busy street. What I didn't realize until I got there was that there isn't a parking lot and all the street parking spots were occupied. As I drove by I could see through the front door that there was a line of patrons that ended at the front door. I decided to not bother with trying to find parking and left. What I also didn't realize was that there was a school nearby and the students had just been let out so traffic in the area was bad. So my advice to you is to avoid going to this USPS when school lets out and put on some walking shoes because you will likely need to park a ways away. read more

They are never nice, especially now that Ken is retired. They never have the "special" stamps (if it's cool they're sold out). The line is only slightly shorter than the "big" main PO down by Central. Yes, the line goes out the door at certain hours. Yes, it can be frustrating at times to deal with that. But THAT'S NOT THEIR FAULT!! I have had nothing but great interactions with them and they take care of me every time I go in there. They are hard workers and do their best to keep the line moving and I have NOT ONCE had a problem with either of them. If the line is too long, go right down the street to the main Post Office, it is really not a big deal. After reading some of these other reviews, I honestly cannot believe there are grown people out there that, not only make fun of another person's physical appearance, but are bashing on two of the kindest ladies I know. This post office is the worst! Their carriers DO NOT put mail in the proper mailboxes when delivering mail in apartments complexes. I've had 3 packages that have been marked " delivered in/or at mailbox" but I have never received the packages. When you call to find out what could have happened to you post you are either met with a busy signal to their direct number, a bad attitude from whoever answers the phone (if they answer), or they always claim the package has been delivered and you should file a police report. A police report, really? I guess I should file the police report on the post office since they are the last to handle my package. They leave you in a vicious loop of finding your mail/packages and take NO responsibility for their errors. All the "nice" comments about this post office are bogus or these people haven't had their mail missing in action and lied to about it being "delivered". I have lost enough money on packages via this post office and have yet to receive my packages although I have been told they were delivered. I guess I'll have to move or send my packages elsewhere to receive them. read more

I had to take time to write a review for this post office because of the rude service I get from the woman named Lena who works there. EVERY time I go into this post office she always gives me the rudest attitude and does not have any knowledge of the pre-paid shipping label from a website who has a special agreement with the application called Poshmark. The shipping label is already paid for and could be shipped in any priority flat rate box. When I tried to explain this to her, she kept interrupting when I tried to tell her. She gives me problems every time I go in there. I went to another post office and they said it was perfect how I had it. I've been to multiple post offices and they all told me the same thing, I've even went to as far as showing them the paper to be certain before I shipped anything in the beginning, and they said I can use any box as well. The postage I had was FOR a medium flat rate box (which my package was in) and because the "label" didn't say medium flat rate she caused me problems. It was medium flat rate. When I asked her if she was going to ship it out, she refused to answer or say anything for that matter. My mom, dad, and sister all have complained about her too. My mom drives to the other side of union city just to avoid LENA because of her attitude and rudeness. People should not work in customer service if they're not knowledgeable about shipping labels and can carry on a professional conversation. This has happened multiple times and like I said, the other post office said I was right and let me send it. Why is it so hard for people to be nice these days?
