I found it a bit pricey, but I'm used to Mexican food being cheap. The Happy Hour menu has good deals, though. I ordered a HH Pork Belly Taco, which was delicious, layered with crispy belly and pulled pork. The chips, guacamole, and salsa were excellent, with super thick chips. What I noticed in my companions' food was how pretty and beautifully presented it was. My guy said his Ceviche was good, but very spicy. I sampled two desserts. I loved the chocolate cake, but the bread pudding was not to my taste. In general, I'd prefer what is meant to be inexpensive street food to BE fairly inexpensive. This place was not inexpensive. This a restaurants week review! I was waiting to go to restaurants week! And was excited to see another high end Mexican place on the list. When we arrived I made sure they knew we were there for restaurants week. We came on a Tuesday evening for dinner and accidentally walked in through the back entrance - the front entrance is the one in from of uptown park. It was a bit confusing but we're greeted and after checking out the menu- I got the elote, deconstructed enchiladas and tres leches. My husband got the same and chocolate cake as the dessert. All of them were delicious! The elote was unique- tangy yet creamy, was on a whole corn so difficult to eat but so amazing! The deconstructed enchiladas were something I've tasted before at Hugo's and Caracol but always good! The tres leches just melted in your mouth. The chocolate cake wasn't my favorite when compared to the tres leches- was cherry and chocolate. Everything was amazing but will say with the pricing of HRW, was debating if it was cheaper to just get it separate. Overall- if you've been to Caracol, Hugo's, Xochi, they're all the same chef so food is similar. Highly recommend to anyone craving Mexican food! But higher end Mexican food! read more

The pork belly tacos during happy hour are so good I didn't even have time to take a picture of them. They are served on corn tortillas with black beans, a verde salsa, and a habanero slice. Might be the best taco I've ever had. Typically I get the Ghost Margarita cocktail but they took it off the happy hour menu :/ the Tom Collin's was very refreshing though, I enjoyed it. The bread pudding omggggg it's paired with a dulce de leche ice cream -- 10/10. I always sit at the bar because the bartenders and so fun and knowledgeable. I come here so much they know me by now. Really enjoyed myself here, I have been meaning to stop by for a while. I came on a beautiful day for this type of restaurant. Plentiful outdoor seating in Uptown Park, overlooking the outdoor shopping and eateries. Good place to just relax and people watch. You grab a menu and order inside and the food is brought out to you. Food is on the expensive side. But appropriately RICH in flavour. Every time I come I get the ceviche with seafood, shrimp, octopus and mussels... just overwhelming delicious. The chips are durable and don't break easily great for getting good mouthfuls of yummy seafood goodness. Octopus tacos were delicious as well, well seasoned, nothing left to be desired. Urbe has a very modern feel where you order at the counter. While the burger looks nice, I found it rather average. I'm never a fan of a bun being significantly bigger than the burger which was the case here. The ingredients tasted fresh which was a plus, including almost half an avocado on it. It was Houston Restaurant Week so we chose from the special menu-- it was $39 a person and entailed an appetizer, entree, and dessert with an option to do a drink pairing with each course. The atmosphere is very bright and clean with colorful decor. Staff was friendly and the kitchen is open concept. Lots of parking as well. I chose the elote, carne asada, and chocolate flan and paired it with the urbe margarita. My boyfriend ordered the tuna tostadas, carnitas, and churro and paired it with the wake up call drink. We both absolutely loved our choices. The elote was creamy and cheesy, the tuna tostadas were fresh and bursting with a variety of flavor. The carnitas melted in your mouth and were served with creamy black beans, Mexican rice, and salsa verde. The carne asada was perfectly cooked, topped with chimichurri and served with roasted brussel sprouts and potatoes. The brussel sprouts had a sweet chili flavor that I loved. The only thing I felt was slightly overpowering was the chimichurri-- but that may just be personal preference. My margarita was very refreshing and paired perfectly with my meal. My boyfriend loved his tequila-espresso drink and felt that it paired perfectly with his crispy churro. Of course, the chocolate flan was amazing as well. There is no table wait staff you basically come in grab your utensils and plates to share, if desired, pick a table, scan the code at the table to order and the food is delivered to you. I've always been a fan of Hugo Ortega. While I haven't been to Xochi, I have been to the James Beard winner's other restaurants including Hugo's and Caracol. Urbe is his most recent restaurant---his take on Mexican street food. That means it's going to be more casual than the typical Ortega restaurant but the prices are higher than casual. Located in Uptown where Cafe Express used to be, the location is great and you can find free parking in the lot. I have been twice: once for dinner and once for happy hour. Both times, the service was solid. As was the food. I've had the birria tacos and a few items on the happy hour menu. Finally got a chance to visit Hugo Ortega's newest concept URBE. Located in Uptown Park, Urbe fits in well with the existing contemporary restaurants that has made this area a must visit dining oasis in the city. Urbe has adopted a popular formula used by other restauranteurs-- counter service during the day, waiter service for dinner. I was unaware of this when I arrived for dinner. I didn't do my research! The bright contemporary vibe indoors was welcoming. I was dining outside tonight, in the patio. Started off with tacos de comote a las brasas which were comprised of sweet potatoes, goat cheese, and pumpkin seeds. They were very tasty, especially for being a vegetarian taco, yet incorporating interesting flavors. For my main, the barbacoa was to be honest... disappointing. I enjoy a little greasy and succulent barbacoa. This one was rather bland and not so succulent. What a bummer. I suppose they were catering to the more upscale gringo clientele. Ah well. There's a lot to like about Urbe. I believe this another of Hugo Ortega's restaurants, and I think he's got his game down to science by now. Very airy and modern feel inside lends itself to an almost fast casual dining experience, especially since you walk up to a counter to order. The menu is just the right size so that you're not getting lost or overwhelmed by options and there's enough types of food to confidently say this is more than just a taco shop. They are a tad pricey in my opinion. $16 for an order of 3 tacos is getting a little crazy. They aren't small or skimping on portion size, but my guess is inflation is hitting everyone. The chicharron was massive and eye catching, and was fun but cumbersome. I wish I could've tried a margarita, as that is one of my key metrics when rating a Mexican food experience. read more

When I made plans to go here, I didn't even know it was part of the H Town Restaurant Group. But, when I found out, I knew I was going to love it as much as Hugo's and Caracol. The Restaurant Week Menu had some fantastic choices. We tried the pork tamale and the chicken Gordita for appetizers. Both were flavorful and delicious- just the right size for a 3-course meal. Our mains were the carnitas and the carne asada. The portions were very generous. My carne asada came with Brussel sprouts and potato wedges. All of it was delicious, and the meats were melt-in-your-mouth tender. One of my favorite things was the green sauce that came with the carnitas - great flavor and heat. We shared the churro (which came with both caramel and Mexican chocolate dip) and the chocolate flan. Both were good, but I enjoyed the chocolate flan a bit more because it was more unique. We love urbe! We have been coming here for a few years now. They have beautiful presentations. Recommend the plato de botanas so you can try multiple things, as well as the machete,papas bravas, queso flameado and aguachile. The gorditas can have a lot of fat sometimes so we don't usually get those. I bring my friends and family here for lunch or dinner, service is always great and can be slow depending on the amount of guests, but I think it's understandable. I studied the menu and pictures on Yelp before we arrived so I knew we wanted the Plato de Botanos. It came to our table pretty fast for having so many items. We inquired about the fish tacos and Maddie said it was made from cod. She offered that we could order it grilled (not just how it was described on the menu: deep-fried). We ordered it grilled and three perfect street tacos were delivered not long after our order. I ordered the queso flameado and wow, it was amazing. The charred brisket was so tender and cooked to perfection. The vegetables and cheese integrated very well with the big chunks of meat. And the tortilla was PIPPING HOT and fresh out of their oven. Altogether, it made for one of the best mexican meals I've ever had in my life. Of course, I also needed a beer to help wash it all down. A friend had told me that Hugo Ortega had opened up another joint called Urbe so we decided to go check it out. Hugo Ortega, obviously, is famous for Hugo's, Xochi, and of course Backstreet Cafe, all of which is a full service restaurant so I was kind of expecting this restaurant to be of similar ambiance. But nope, I was so mistaken. Let me elaborate. Since we were trying to schedule dinner/lunch/whatever around multiple people's schedules, we decided to come here on a Sunday, which was brunch time. I found out that they didn't take reservations on Sundays when I tried to make a reservation on the website, and then I found out that brunch was actually counter service only when I arrived at the restaurant. Upon arrival, the host seated me (I was the first to arrive) and gave me a menu and told me to go ahead and place an order at the counter whenever I was ready. It was around 2:30 in the afternoon when I had arrived so there were lots of open tables. I actually helped myself and moved from the table that had been assigned to me to a bigger table since I found out that we'd have a bigger party than originally planned. Long story short, since this was a counter service, I had received not so much as a 'hello' from any of the staff while I was waiting for my friend, which was expected. But again, my expectation of a Hugo Ortega's establishment was completely different. Let's keep this short. All the food that we had ordered was nothing short of delicious. I personally had the Queso Flameado and it was excellent. The brisket was tender, smoky, and full of flavor. No complaints. Everybody else in my party also thought that their dishes were good. As a group, we had ordered the enchiladas (brisket and chicken), Pecho De res Con Huevos, Mole De Olla, and Gorditas. We had also ordered the assorted sweet Mexican breads (5 for $18). Pricing is about what to be expected at this establishment. However, I still feel that the sweet breads were way overpriced. Were they good? Absolutely. But could you have gone to El Bolillo and get those breads for a fraction of the price? Also, yes. I think I'll skip the breads the next time around. Would I go back again? Sure. I would definitely love to come back to Urbe to try out their lunch of dinner menu (where they actually offer full service instead of table service). read more

Urbe is by far my favorite upscale Mexican Restaurant. The ambiance is very chill, yet classy. The lunch menu is full of great things to eat. The Pork Belly Tacos hands down the best. The lunch plate is $20, yet you get three tacos and it can be shared depending on how much you eat. Now the happy hour portion is $6 per taco and it's still good. I spent 3 hours here sitting on the patio having a few drinks eating and laugh with friends and family. The staff were super friendly and made sure my group was happy. From Chef Hugo Ortega and his H town Restaurant group he has delivered another winning location at the Galleria Uptown Park. What I like about this particular restaurant it doesn't have all the frills you would have to deal with, with more formal dining where much of it is you order yourself at the counter and are given a seating location and number in advance. And they turn food out fast. The primary focus of this place is Mexican street food but elevated which can also be said of the design style and theme. I've only been here three times, and am a huge Taco fan, and that's what I've ordered here. I've had the TACOS DE CARNITAS Y CHICHARRON, TACOS AL PASTOR and TACOS DE BARBACOA. I would give the 5 stars each. Also nice is you get three tacos and during this inflated cost of goods I see too many other places drop down to 2 tacos for the same price.
