Union Seafood on Central Avenue in Albany is described as "Chinese meets Louisiana," according to the restaurant's website. I've been there before and the crazy, giant fiberglass crab on display in the entrance is always a hoot. So is the fiberglass shark head on the wall in the dining area. I like a place with a sense of fun and humor. I also like this place for its seafood boils. The good news is that this restaurant--which was very good to begin with-- has gotten even better. Last time I showed up, the server brought the seafood boil still in its boiling bag and cut it open in front of me. It was up to me to reach into the hot bag and pull out its contents. There was steam everywhere. A hot mess, indeed! This time, the kitchen took care of the boiling bag for me. Instead, they beautifully arranged the boiled seafood on a large platter. Wow. It looked amazing and tasted even better! This time, I'd asked for a Number 4 with mix of seasonings, including garlic and butter. There were: one big lobster tail, plenty of shrimp, clams, crawfish, potatoes, corn on the cob, hard boiled eggs and extra veggies. It was described as enough to feed three people. Coincidentally, we were a party of three. We also ordered a Cajun Fried Rice for good measure. We really didn't need it. We were so full. The fruit drinks were great, too. Union Seafood is a franchise with locations in Troy and Schenectady. They're owned by Larry Weng who also opened Ji Bei Chuan Rice Noodles & Ramen on Western Avenue in Guilderland, according to local news reports. In celebration of May being AAPI (Asian American Pacific Islander) Month, it's probably fair to say that Asian-American owned restaurants such as Union Seafood have added much variety to the overall dining experience in Capital Region. Ive tried this once last year and i like it. Brought my friend there yesterday. They have combo choices. We chose the 1/2 lb shrimp, 1 lobster tail, clams, crawfish. It's a lot and the seafood is fresh. I would say 3 people could share. We had it mild and mixed sauce. Maybe order hot next time since i did not taste the spiciness. We both enjoyed it. Price is not that bad. The place is huge but kinda datk inside. Service is great though. For dessert we got the coconut cake. It is kinda frozen. But it taste good. Surely coming back! read more

This place is small and cute. I tried the hibachi chicken which was decent but not the best. It did not taste like freshly made hibachi from a hibachi grill. But it would be a good lunch option. The service size was big. I couldn't eat all of the rice. And the best part is that it comes with the yum yum sauce on the side. I will say I think the best thing is the seafood here. The positive: the food itself was delicious. I ordered one of the seafood boils, shrimp & crab legs, Cajun flavor, hot. It came quickly & and was all steaming hot. The flavor of the sauce was incredible. I just wish there was andouille sausage. The negative: the place wasn't clean. There's a beautiful fully stocked bar that just has old condiments & storage on it. Someone was moving around the restaurant on a step ladder fixing lights, a child at the counter on a loud iPad. And it's a confusing combo of Cajun & Asian cuisine. I also had to ask for utensils & a cracker & the only person there attending to customers seemed confused... One thing that is very irritating is when businesses like this make offers to get you in to buy their food, then tell you "it's a mistake" or "the offer is no Longer available". Another road trip.. Another seafood cajun boil bag.......saturday night and the place had one table of 2 in it... Made me kinda nervous... I ordered anyways. Take out..... Staff was very friendly and pleasant. I ordered get your hands dirty. Love the name but they weren't joking they did not add gloves like other places do which forced me to get my hands dirty well eating this boil bag. Picked a lobster tail a pound of headless shrimp and half dozen of clams. Butter garlic and cajun mild spice. I also ordered a side of rice which cost me $4 a little disappointed in that price normally a side of rice with those are typically $2. I didn't add the corn on the cob due to the fact that my teeth do not like eating into it right now due to my Invisalign braces. Came with enough potatoes and something that I've never had in a boil bag before was to hard boil eggs which tasted delicious. They left the seafood in the bag that does get boiled in but they also added a metal tray to dump it out in.. which was a pleasant surprise... I also ordered a Thai boba tea I like that they had a good selection of teas and different style boba's. please DO NOT come here if you want good customer service. i had came here with friends and two of us ordered a seafood boil and one a fried rice. one, the quality of the seafood boils were trash. a majority of the crab legs had no meat in it at all. second the fried rice was ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING, it literally tasted like it was drowned in dirty oil. literally only took two bites and left it there because it was so nasty. our "server" also never came around to check how we were doing or to check how the food was, she literally just came and dropped off our checks. we told her we didn't want to pay for the fried rice because we didn't like it nor did we eat it and she went to go get the manager. the manager approaches us with an attitude and tells us off the bat that we have to pay for it, didnt even try to compensate or offer a solution. we ourselves are servers and know what good customer service is and how to cater to customers, which is what they DIDNT DO. we literally were going back and forth with the manager because she refused to take it off our bill. then the server has the AUDACITY to lie and say that she came and checked on us and gave the LAME excuse that we were talking so THATS why she didn't come ask us. she didn't come up to our table once. after arguing with the manager and telling her we're not paying for it point blank period she gave us more of an attitude and told us that we cannot come back ever, which is hilarious because we weren't planning to ever again. and it's also hilarious because they're mad at the customers for their own doing. if you don't know how to deal with customers, don't have a business. don't recommend ever coming here. if i could give this place 0 stars i would read more

I purchased the half pound clams and half pound crawfish in Garlic & butter. I was not disappointed at all . This place by far went above and beyond! From customer service to serving goodness! I ordered the crawfish get your hands dirty and it was only 13.95! I got it in the flavor garlic butter mild and omg it was sooo good! To my amazement the portion was huge and came with eggs, potatoes and of course the crawl fish which were huge now I've had seafood boils before but this one is now my ultimate favorite! This place has delicious wings and boba tea. Their rose boba tea is a family favorite, and the wings really cannot be beat. We always get the 20 piece bonchon wings, eat half and then air fry them the next day and they are just as good.
