Found this gem on a quick google search, walked in 3 perps, no reservation, place was full, hostess sat us outside, a bit chilly but enjoyable. Service was phenomenal from the hostess to the servers, had a chance to talk with the hostess (also the co-owner the chef is her husband) about the food served and it seems to be seasonal since the menu is updated from time to time, The food was amazing, every single dish was unique, the flavors combination was top notch, felt enchanting. The mezze platter and fried calamari along with the warm bread and butter so good. Braised/fried pork belly was a surprise with the polenta base. Seared halibut, fresh and tender with black coconut lemongrass was fabulous. Houchang tofu a solid choice for those who are vegetarian. And the night surprise, basil corn ice cream, got yourself a fan here. Will return to try other plates, definitively one of the best restaurants I have tried in the more than 15 years visiting my sister in the area.

My husband and I had dinner here Saturday April 5th with my husband's aunt and uncle who have said so many good things about this place. I absolutely loved everything from the food, the vibe, and the service! I wasn't able to take photos of the other food we ordered but I got the seafood paella and it was THE BEST!! The oysters were top tier and I normally don't eat oysters. The cheesecake we had was amazing as well and the vanilla ice cream was so creamy. Our server, Michelle, was such a sweetheart too. Loved everything second of our dinner there. The owner also found out I just got my green card application approved and she and the staff kept congratulating us which meant a lot to me. I would 10/10 dine here again and will make sure all of my friends know about this amazing place.

We were greeted by a friendly hostess who confirmed our reservation for four through Open Table and offered to hang our coats as we were seated and waited for the remaining two individuals in our party. A nice touch! Never having been in this building under previous ownership, we did not have any idea on improvements or changes that were made. However, the initial feeling was that the restaurant has a warm and welcoming vibe. Our table was in a corner with seating for two on a banquette and two seat-padded chairs. I mention this because the restaurant quickly filled to near capacity (maybe 50?) by 7p.m. and the din from customers talking increased to a level that likely was less desirable for those seated in the center of the dining room. At our table's location the noise level was quite acceptable. During our visit, only beer or wine was available. Their liquor license has been approved, but they were waiting for the distributer to begin deliveries. Among the two bottled beers being offered I chose the Pacifico Lager over a Lagunitas IPA. My wife had a glass of Italian Soave Classico wine. Both were excellent choices to complement our selected appetizers and entrées. From the Small Plates menu, I decided on the Pulpo a la Brasa ($24) - grilled octopus, potato and truffle purée, fried leeks, and romesco. My wife went with Leche del Tigre Peruvian Ceviche ($22) - white fish (halibut), lime juice, red onion, habanero and jalapeño peppers, sweet potatoes, corn, and plantain chips. For "small plates," these were very decent sized portions. The grilled octopus was perfectly cooked, tender yet with a slight bit of resistance; the potatoes were creamy, light, and not overpowered by truffle flavor; the fried leeks provided contrasting texture and the romesco offered additional color and flavor enhancement. My taste buds were dancing with joy! My wife thoroughly enjoyed the Ceviche. As previously mentioned, portions are generous, so she concentrated on eating mostly the halibut ceviche to save room for her entrée. I tasted her dish and agreed it was excellent. I was tempted to eat all of her plantain chips. Our two dining companions ordered the Bruselas al Pastor ($13) - Brussel sprouts, salsa de chiles morita, grilled pineapple, cotija, and pickled onions; and the Lacinato Kale Salad ($13) - dried fruit, parmesan, toasted pistachios, and chipotle Caesar. Both companions were pleased with their choices. As an aside, I learned about chefs massaging kale to tenderize it and make it easier to chew and digest. Who knew? With the restaurant virtually full, I welcomed the laid back pace of service between our courses as we questioned and conversed with our server and one of the owners (Casey) who visited numerous tables. You definitely feel welcomed here. On to entrées. I had the Wild Boar and Veal Gnocchi ($32) - a six-hour slow cooked wild boar and veal ragú, tomato, pancetta, and parmesan. Absolutely delicious! The gnocchi are made in house, as are all their pastas, and the tomato sauce was delightful with the pancetta and topped with parmesan. My wife chose one of the two evening specials offered, Clams with Linguini. I can't tell you much about its preparation other than the clams were perfectly cooked to be tender and my wife raved about the flavors and the freshness of the pasta. Reportedly, it happens to be the Chef's favorite dish. Once again, our dining companions were very pleased with their choices of the Pan Seared Halibut ($34) with cauliflower purée, grilled broccolini, agrodolce, and lemon garlic butter, and the other special that evening, a Grilled Tomahawk Pork Chop with the most perfect and artistic grill marks you will ever see. I've got my eye on that Halibut when we next visit. While I was too full to be tempted to order dessert, I was offered tastes of the Chocolate Mousse and the Apple Brownies with Cinnamon Cream. The mousse was rich, thick, and chocolatey. The apple brownie was unique, visually more like a blondie, and lighter than I would have expected for a brownie. Their Coffee ($12) is served in a large French Press capable of serving two even with their large cups. If I could find one thing to nitpick about the evening's experience, my wife and I agreed that the coffee had a bitterness. Possibly a Capital City Coffee Roasters Fair Trade Organic French Roast would have truly put the entire dining experience over the top. Fortunately, an unexpected surprise provided that missing topping. When you dine at Coray Kitchen (pronounced core-eye) be sure to notice the paintings hanging on the walls. Unbeknownst to us, these bright and beautiful pieces of artwork are the pride of a Coray Kitchen family member, Magdalena Villatoro Carroll (Mags for short). She arrived as we were preparing to leave, but my wife requested a guided tour of her framed artwork. Mags concurred. What an exhilarating experience that was... did I mention that Mags is 6 years old?

    Outdoor dining and drinks

My husband and I have been to Coray kitchen now three times. The first two time were amazing and we couldn't stop recommending it to people. We went last night for my husband's birthday and had a reservation that had said it was his birthday. We were there for exactly an hour. Drinks were good, appetizers were okay they weren't amazing this time, but what was really different was the entrees. All the food came out very quickly which was fine but not the best. I had the steak with potato wedges and ordered it medium rare. It did not come medium rare and the steak was not great. My standards are set high from the meals that I've previously had here and the steak was what I could've made at home. For $60 dollars it was not worth it. My husband said his special pork entree wasn't bad. We decided not to look at dessert but the check was brought immediately after. Overall we felt rushed when dining and wanted it to be an experience especially when it was my husband's birthday and it was never mentioned or anything offered by the waiter. Normally price doesn't bother me for Coray Kitchen because usually the food is worth it, but last night just wasn't worth the $200 check for his birthday unfortunately.

Ceviche - the beet infused lime juice is so pretty! Yucca fritters - the best thing ever. I will get these every time.

We went to Coray Kitchen last night and had the best time - the ambiance is perfect. There were date nights and double dates and birthday parties happening all around us - and it was clear that we were all experiencing the same incredible meal. The staff is all super personable and helpful and made us feel welcomed from the start. I would describe the food as complex flavors that are refreshingly light, which I feel is very rare in Albany. Each dish had a beautiful sauce with the perfect amount of acidity cutting through. We had the yucca fritters, the white fish ceviche, the duck and the lobster pasta. And their orange cake with homemade orange blossom ice cream was the perfect way to end the night. We laughed saying it's going to be hard to switch it up the next time, because we sincerely loved every single dish! And the cocktails are AMAZING. I started with the Medicina Latina, which was like a perfect tequila/mezcal margarita sweetened with honey and ginger. My husband had a paper plane and I ended the night with a perfectly dark espresso martini. Their wine by the glass and beer list has the same attention to detail and it is clear that it's based off the current seasonal menu. Pro tip: if you can't get a reservation, you can grab a seat at the bar. But you need to go - and we will most definitely be back

Pistachio Ice Cream - home made, incredibly flavorful, rich and creamy - literally divine!

From the moment you walk in, you know you've entered into something a cut above - warm, welcoming, and vibrant, everyone from the clientele to the servers to the chef is smiling - and the chatter is excited, anticipatory and satiated. It feels like you should know everyone in the room; like you're walking into someone's sophisticated dream, to their home, where their family and friends have gathered. Everything is made from scratch, embracing slow time, developed flavors, and a sense of home. Here, you actually can taste that to the chef, food is love and that our time together should be a sacred act of communing with each other, the earth, and our community. I love that they incorporated certain elements of the grandmothers - home recipes handed down of little palette cleansing cookies, or mousse, or ice creams. A far cry from most restaurant tasteless Sysco desserts...but I am ahead of myself... We started the meal with the Lacinato Kale Salad (dried fruit, parmesan, toasted pistachios, chipotle caesar) and the Short Rib Empinadas which were a special. They were both beautifully presented, the empinadas had a lovely green belt across them which somehow was perfectly symmetrical, and the salad was massaged for tenderness, chopped and tossed. Both appetizers were healthy portions; the empinadas (2 per order) were quite large! My dining companion and I split both so we could each experience the offerings. They did not disappoint! Honestly if I could eat that Kale Salad every day, I would be a happy human. My dining companion ordered the Porcini Rubbed grass-fed NY Strip Steak (Hudson Valley mushrooms, and potato pave); and upon hearing that Chef Javier truly loves cooking seafood, I opted for the Pan-Seared Halibut with cauliflower puree, grilled broccolini, agrodolce, lemon garlic butter. We shared these tastes as well. The NY Strip was perfectly cooked and the flavors were explosive - really tremendous. The potato pave was one of the most luxurious bites of food I've had. My halibut was light and flavorful, with a lovely combination of tastes - the broccolini was another standout of the dish! Completely unexpected, as many times this is simply garnish, but was truly a stand out and to me showcases the love and attention that Chef Javier puts into every aspect of his dishes. The care and knowledge, happiness and love that goes into his food is an experience to be had. For dessert we opted for the family-relevant Chocolate Mousse with raspberries and the home-made pistachio ice cream. Both topped the meal off with a bit of sweet, but how refreshing it was to have truly home made desserts. They were both lovely. Overall it was a vibrant experience, felt like a happy engagement for all who dined that evening, and the food was the star player. What was also lovely to see what how happy and proud Casey and Javier were with their dream come true. They clearly are loving everything they are doing, they have family warmth care and touches at each turn (the artwork is by their daughter, some menu items are family recipes and include other ways of honoring matriarchs in their family, etc), and they have the loveliest smiles about it all. This is somewhere you go back to time-and-time again. This is a special environment where amazing things happen, all filled with love.

We were surprised at the lack of customers when we arrived at 6 PM on a hot and muggy Tuesday. There were a couple of parties on their covered patio, but only one booth in their dining room was filled, and there was no one at the bar or in the cocktail area. This is a shame, especially with the old style jazz music that was playing and the attractive ambiance. And, I'll say right up front that our meal was enjoyable with top level service. From their list of crafted cocktails my wife decided upon a zero proof Elixir, Scarlet Begonias ($14), crafted with Lyre's London Gin, earl grey and butterfly pea flower simple, and lime. It was quite flavorful and beautifully presented. While they didn't offer any draft beer, my eyes immediately focused in on Left Hand Brewing's Milk Stout Nitro ($9) - I hadn't had one in a long time, and its flavors of brown sugar, vanilla, and coffee were still so amazing. One of the highlights of our meal was the Forager Toast ($18) that we had as an appetizer. The lightly toasted and flavorful bread was topped with herbed ricotta, local roasted mushrooms, and arugula greens with an oil drizzle. This was so tasty. For her entrée, my wife chose the Scallops Marrakesh ($32) with a half-dozen large scallops over tomato, garlic, olives, and chickpeas with Moroccan spices on dressed arugula with grilled lemon. While the scallops lacked a more beautiful browning from searing, the dish was otherwise very good. As a side note, the half portion she took home that evening was even more flavorful the following day after all the flavors had more time to meld together. I ordered the Seafood Thai Curry ($36). The mix of mussels, arctic char, scallops, seasonal vegetables, and a very flavorful yellow curry with jasmine rice off to the side, was truly a hit with me. While the spiciness was not too great, it was definitely noticeable and perfect for my palate. I was too full after eating all my Seafood Curry to consider having dessert, but my wife had saved room by planning to bring a portion of her entrée home. Her choice was the Pistachio Tiramisu ($15). Beautifully presented with its ladyfingers soaked in espresso liqueur, mascarpone cream, pistachio glaze, and whipped cream with an espresso dusting, it tasted as good as it looked. She allowed me a taste. Relaxing with cups of freshly brewed coffee at the end of your meal is always a good idea at either Mint location. I believe it may be FTO French Peru from Capital City Roasters.

The bar tender, Noah, was impressive and friendly in that he knew his liquor stock very well, and could explain the flavor intricacies of the various types of bourbon, vodka, and gins. They also offer some non,-alcoholic beverages for the "designated driver" of the group too. We watched Noah make everything from regular and "dirty martinis" with fresh ingredients, as well as one drink where he used a butane lighter and some tiny cedar chips in a straining tool above the drink to give it a fresh, authentic smoky look and flavor. Noah knows his stuff!!!!! The patrons were friendly, diverse, and easy to socialize with if you chose to do so. The establishment is pet friendly for "socialized pets" with a water bowl outside the establishment and some free Milkbone treats inside. Keep in mind that this establishment is a "tasting room" with the majority of products from the New Scotland Distillery, but there are other options. Just don't expect to get a Bud Light Draft or food here. The only downside is that parking in the Lark Steet and State Street location is difficult to obtain without some effort, but we managed to park our vehicles 2 blocks away. This is not a direct criticism of the establishment because the experience is well worth this minor potential inconvenience. We would definitely go back there again, especially for the specialty drinks or the flights and half flights of their bourbon and vodka products. Thank you once again, Noah, for a pleasant and educational evening!!!

First, your Brunch menu and food are excellent, when we finally got our food - after roughly an hour of waiting - I was instantly reminded of why Dove and Deer is great - bold flavors, excellent preparation, gorgeous plates all in a city that desperately needs it. Second, I really felt bad for the 3 people responsible for running an entire restaurant on a Sunday (two waiters and one person in the kitchen). They did their absolute best, were so kind and apologetic, but obviously completely stressed out and frazzled. Tables got up and left after waiting for someone to get back to them - and we almost did too. It's unfair to restaurant staff to put the burden of running an entire place on them. I get if someone called off and you're short staffed 1 or 2 people, but did everyone call off? Besides 3 people? Come on. You have a real opportunity to be a go to brunch destination, my advice is to staff appropriately and give it a real go or risk customers not getting to experience the greatness that is your food - and taking their dollars to someplace far more mediocre. The only reason this isn't a 2 star or 1 star review is because of how hard your staff tried, and how good your food is (when it finally shows up).

The building itself is impressive, although maybe not quite as impressive as the castle-looking building next door. Our party of seven settled in at the bar as there otherwise did not seem to be a large enough table for all of us to gather around in either the main lounge area or a small room off to the side. The dark wood paneled walls, large fireplace, assortment of easy chairs, couches, and high desktop table gave off a feeling of warmth and welcoming. The friendly bartender introduced herself (sorry I've forgotten her name) and informed us that spirit-wise, the bar was capable of preparing the standard, traditional drinks like Manhattans, martinis, etc. All beers were poured from cans, and at my request, she recited the names of about six that were available. I don't believe anyone in our party inquired about the wines that were available. The building simply calls out for an explanation of its history. Upon our request, the bartender offered to provide either the "brief" or "full" option. We requested the full history. She was obviously well up to the task. You would be amazed at the variety of things you could learn here. Just to touch on a few key topics that were mentioned, consider Alexander Hamilton's wife, puffed rice, Bab-o cleanser (cue up the jingle), Bishop Gibbons, and an orthopedic surgeon. A beautiful boutique hotel it just had its grand reopening last week! It's absolutely gorgeous…read more If not for attending an event here last evening I would have missed this slice of architectural heaven! The owners have renovated it with great care. The rooms are furnished with just the right amount of furniture allowing the room to feel light and airy. Each room is designed with the right amount of seating for flow and multiple conversation points without anyone feeling crowded or being interrupted by another conversation. Although the rooms have dark paneling the large windows and French doors allow for an abundance of light. The backyard is lovely and flows into Washington Park! Imagine having a whole park as your backyard!! I would love to come back for a stay!
