Fried clam platter - clam strips rather than full-belly clams.

This is a good place to go for fresher seafood in the Capital district. The fish holds together and doesn't have a fishy smell unlike some seafood counters at supermarkets. A more diverse selection of fish such as arctic char, bronzini, trout, and halibut can be sourced here. The fresh oyster, clam, and sea scallop section is always worth a look. Additionally, they have some frozen fish, crab legs, lobster tails, etc. in a separate freezer section. As I understand it, flash frozen seafood can keep for a longer duration of time without severely compromising the taste and texture. The meals I've had here have "scratched the itch" if you're looking to satisfy a taste of oceanic protein. I even remember Chef Katie (now the proprietor of Hooked Seafood) working her magic in their kitchen. There is limited seating within the shop if you want to eat in but, most of the time, I order take out. One niggling thing, for me, a person who lived in coastal Rhode Island for over 20 years, fried clams are full-belly clams, not clam strips. Flatlanders eat clam strips. Besides that, this place has always been a reliable bet for fresh seafood.

Updating my review because I have since had the pleasure of trying more things. Fin has become a weekly staple in our household's grocery agenda. The sword fish steaks knock every other grocery store's out of the park. The lobster mac n' cheese from the frozen section is delectable, as is their garlic aioli dipping sauce. This place has not let me down yet

Beer to go with amazing fish and chips!

Back for More yummy food! Fresh fish and chips A taste of New Zealand and some Massachusetts specialities thrown in.... The chips - aka French fries are devastatingly good - it means I want to simply keep eating them one after another... crisp but not hard outside, perfect soft middle and flecks of salt perfectly flavor these lovely potatoes. A generous piece of fish that flakes perfectly in see my fork. This is an Icelandic style batter, To be clear. You can choose fresh homemade tartar with chunks of gherkins, homemade spicy of regular cocktail sauce or the simple Lemon to go with it. They also have malt vinegar in case that is your thing. I love the variation in the pieces of cabbage in the slaw. Some thinner some bigger, crisp, crunchy and lite - a perfect accompaniment. I plowed through the Massachusetts delights in no time at all. So good!

After reading the reviews, looking at the pictures and checking out the menu, I decided that I really wanted to like this place. This quaint little place had a nice display setup along with a small dining area. The items on the menu and in the display case looked good, so I was sure this would be a home-run. I opted for the the Korean BBQ salmon and the Mahi Mahi tacos. I love salmon, but the Korean BBQ salmon taco was overly sweet in my opinion. I feel like you can't go wrong with mahi mahi in a taco, but that was a disappointment as well. The pico on the mahi mahi taco was really bitter. So much that I couldn't get the taste of the mahi. Maybe if I had got something different from those 2 items, my trip to fin may have been better. However, I can only review on what I actually ate.

To be fair I want to disclose I am only reviewing the lobster roll but will provide an updated review once I get to taste other goodies from this place. I came here with intention to taste their brown butter vinaigrette lobster on their homemade herb butter roll. The lobster was succulent and I really enjoyed the butter and vinaigrette blended together. The herb butter roll was also hearty and had a good texture. I was surprised to get this for slightly under $16 (incl tax), as it also came with a side salad (I was given a choice from 3: seaweed salad, potato salad, or couscous). The side salads change each week I was told! I chose the seaweed salad to go with my roll. It was no difference from the kind of seaweed salad you'd get ordering at Japanese restaurants...which I usually like. So for that price I consider it a pretty sweet deal since the rolls I've gotten in the city are closer to $20-22. They are surely fishmongers as their shop offers daily fresh fish, oysters, clams, shrimp and much more. If you don't care for lobster you can try the crab cakes, shrimp cakes, broiled scallops, salmon sweet potato burgers, new England clam chowder, ect. But back to the lobster roll. It was bursting with flavor and definitely loaded...worth every penny! Some people prefer theirs cold with mayo and lettuce. I like both, but this combination here is really a party in my mouth!

This is a haute cuisine place that is masked by the casual dining atmosphere. Seriously: top notch chef, original recipes, a core dedication to quality seafood, paired with a fresh fish counter and some prepared food to go. We usually go for something special, but tonight I decided to get an old childhood standby, fried clams (the Boston Basket) and the fish burger sandwich. I did not expect either to be as transportive as they turned out to be. The fried clams were as delicately done as I've ever had: not crispy, but not too floppy, with excellent breading. And while I prefer my clams naked, we tried all three of the dipping sauces -- a remoulade, tartar sauce, and cocktail sauce. Now normally I loathe cocktail sauce and can take tartar sauce or leave it, so I figured we'd eat up the remoulade and ignore the other two. Still, I gave them little nibbles. Man! The cocktail sauce was like no other I've had, with a heavy hint of horseradish and a far fresher flavor than I've ever had. Then the tartar sauce -- genius! It had a delicate spicing, with capers providing a floral backdrop. That was only a preliminary, as the fish burger proved to be complex, with hints of multiple kinds of fish, and a fennel-based spicing. I ended up having that afterglow, as if I'd had a couple of cocktails and was sitting next to a fireplace, that is the hallmark of truly fine food at an advanced level. We also had the usual outstanding service, attentive without being pushy. I seriously think Hooked should consider splitting into two restaurants: one where the ambiance is upgraded to match the high caliber of the food, and another cheaper one that is strictly fast casual and takeout, and they'd more than double the business. There is a restaurant back where we come from in California, Turtle Bay, that did this with fine dining on one side and the quick, simple, and affordable food on the other side, with a big shared kitchen between them but with completely separate ambiances. That way I could come back more frequently, and still have the original Hooked for special occasions!

I finally decided to give Hooked a try after hearing many great things about their lobster roll…read more With that said, I'm glad I did because the food was delicious. To explain, I ordered the cold lobster roll with fries and it was great. First off, the lobster was tender, incredibly fresh, and they loaded the roll with it. Likewise, the roll was perfect. It was airy on the inside and crunchy on the outside. My only issue with the lobster roll was that it needed more mayonnaise. In the same manner, the fries were phenomenal. To make plain, the fries were scorching hot and seasoned to perfection. Also, they had a crispy exterior with a fluffy interior. These were simply great fries. Essentially, Hooked offers great lobster rolls and fries.

Since we were in Saratoga we decided to check out their new location and bring something home to cook for dinner. There was a lot of fresh fish to choose from and we narrowed it down to either halibut or sea bass. I decided on the sea bass because we've never cooked it at home before. I've been there before and the crazy, giant fiberglass crab on display in the entrance is always a hoot. So is the fiberglass shark head on the wall in the dining area. I like a place with a sense of fun and humor. I also like this place for its seafood boils. The good news is that this restaurant--which was very good to begin with-- has gotten even better. Last time I showed up, the server brought the seafood boil still in its boiling bag and cut it open in front of me. It was up to me to reach into the hot bag and pull out its contents. There was steam everywhere. A hot mess, indeed! This time, the kitchen took care of the boiling bag for me. Instead, they beautifully arranged the boiled seafood on a large platter. Wow. It looked amazing and tasted even better! This time, I'd asked for a Number 4 with mix of seasonings, including garlic and butter. There were: one big lobster tail, plenty of shrimp, clams, crawfish, potatoes, corn on the cob, hard boiled eggs and extra veggies. It was described as enough to feed three people. Coincidentally, we were a party of three. We also ordered a Cajun Fried Rice for good measure. We really didn't need it. We were so full. The fruit drinks were great, too.
