Still the best fish fry in the Capital District. Ted's always delivers the good stuff.

I've lived in the Albany area for most of my adult life, and this was my first visit to Ted's. How did that happen? I have no idea. The newest location, on Western Avenue, was well laid out for social distancing. Tables were far apart, and spots for standing in the line was marked. I had ordered online, but did have to go inside to get the food. I would have preferred to have my order brought out or handed off in a drive-up window. There was a sign that said, "online orders, go to the front of the line." One improvement would be a way to get to the front of the long line without squeezing past everyone and feeling like I was butting past. If I'd known I could go around to the right, I'd have done it sooner, but it took me a while to figure it out. My food was waiting- who knows how long? I ordered at 2:30, but my pick up range was 2:45-3:15. When I went in at 3:00, as I didn't want to wait around inside, it was waiting for me with a pile of other orders. There did seem to be a couple folks waiting for their food- they must have known something I didn't. I'd rather be the one waiting, so the food is hot. It was all paid for online, and the very funny pleasant cashier gave it to me as soon as I asked. They were out of soda cup tops, and she came right over to refill and thanked me for telling her they were out. I decided to eat in my car, so here's how the food was: the large piece of fish was excellent: perfectly salty, crispy and tender. The same goes for the fries: really perfectly cooked. The hot dog roll was soft snd fresh, but not grilled. They gave satisfactory size container of catsup and one of tartar sauce. I had indicated online "tartar sauce ON the sandwich" as it specifically asked, but I see that that might get soggy if the fish had to travel a ways. The tartar sauce was very good. My criticism is around the Cole slaw: it was meh, fairly tasteless, and I didn't eat more than 2 tastes before putting the plastic top back on it. Overall, a very good meal! I'll definitely go back again. They have a bucket of fish on Fridays that I'd like to try, and also seemed to have much more on their wall menu than I saw online. Including cheesecake, which I would have been tempted by if I had seen it!

Ted's Fish Fry is like a beacon in the night! The food and service are amazing!! I had been craving scallops for weeks! We happened to be in the Albany area and luckily drove by Ted's. The Sea scallops were so large, fresh and plump. I was in heaven!! Perfectly cooked and the Cole slaw that accompanied them was delicious. I only wish they had fresh lemon instead of lemon juice packets!

Very good fish and fries. Loved it. It was just more expensive than I was hoping. But the quantities were very large.

Pretty good. We had clam strips and found them a bit chewy, but they were tasty. Bartender was friendly and helpful.

(When I walked by the establishment in the evening, they played cheesy American pop.) Their online drink menu did not match their current menu. In lieu of a much desired vesper (I was told they couldn't make it because they no longer have Lillet), I went with their Indigo 75 of Empress Gin, lemon juice, and Prosecco. Instead of refreshing, the lemon juice overwhelmed the entire drink. The BLTEA with bacon, lettuce, tomato, egg, avocado, and mayo was wonderful. The side salad only came with a sweet balsamic vinaigrette. With a bit more attention to detail, this place could be amazing.

Kitchen closes at 10pm but the bar is open until 11pm. We also got to try some of their beers and ciders before committing which was really nice as well. And their pickle back shots were also a fun addition. Overall even without a crowd, it's a chill pub to check out in the area!

They tried to say we didn't order all we said and they finally went back and looked and saw that they did forget it. They said they would give us a new fish meal. We had to go get it. Now we had already paid for Door Dash and even more because prices are higher on Door Dash but I went anyway. They shorted us part of the meal and almost all the condiments we asked for. Well, at least we kept our word today when we ordered their two different bowls for takeout. My wife ordered the Fishbowl ($30) with the grilled fish of the day (salmon), cherry tomatoes, quinoa, feta, peaches, arugula, and basil lime vinaigrette (she said no to onions). She could not get over how tasty the quinoa tasted and wondered how they prepared it. She also thought the peaches could have been a little sweeter since we are in prime peach season. While the salmon was just slightly overcooked we'll attribute that to it continuing to cook as we drove the meals home. Even with those minor negatives, she said she would definitely order the dish again. I chose the Poke Bowl ($35) for my meal (my first ever poke bowl) with marinated raw tuna and salmon, edamame, cucumber, watermelon radish, snap peas, nori, avocado, sesame seeds, scallions, and pea tendrils, all over sushi rice with ginger gochugaru oil and soy sauce on the side. This was absolutely delicious. It was a wonderful blend of fresh flavors and textures. If I have another poke bowl somewhere else I only hope it can come close to measuring up to the enjoyment I experienced with this one.

Now the downfall, the chicken sandwich. I did notice other plates coming to tables looking like the fryer temp. is too hot, or cook time was too long. Some fish fry that came out looked quite dark as did my chicken, as you can see! A slight burnt taste was evident. It had good flavor under that burn, and the chicken was close to not being juicy, almost dry. The place is clean, and if not for the location, I would sit at the bar and have the raw bar! Something very important to me that hit me the instant I stepped through the door, if you're looking for a great shot of A/C on a hot day, not here!!! Barely got comfortable from the almost 90 degree day on a bike, and then worked up a return of sweating as the place filled up.

Our experience last night was much better service. We had Vicky as our server and she was a delight. So hardworking and caring. You can tell she pours her heart into her job. My major rave about BJ's this trip is the happy hour deals and deals of the week. We were thinking we were going to use a good sit down dinner and we ended up diving into "snacks". We just made it before the end of Happy Hour and we got some spinach artichoke dip and we both ordered personal pizzas. We also took advantage of the $5 wing specials on Wednesday. The spin dip was great but seemed to be missing something. Maybe some spice. The personal pizzas were a bit smaller than we were expecting, but for a $7 special you couldn't go wrong. I had the BJ's classic combo minus olives. It was delicious. The freshest toppings. The wings were a bit disappointing. Maybe because we're from Buffalo... but the dill pickle boneless really didn't have much flavor. The hot honey buffalo didn't seem to show any of those flavors. I almost wonder if they were the wrong flavor. But anyways, cheap deals, great waitress! I'll be back next time I'm passing through. We also loved that even though the place was packed, it wasn't loud! They have designed it well.
