This location has so much potential in the bar area but it's always so stagnant, bright, and quiet. A little bit of ambiance will go a long way with bringing in a consistent bar crowd. Every time i go i always wish there was some music, dimmer lighting, and some personality. read more

Ted's has a classic 5 star fish fry that tastes delicious. It's all I get now. I wish they'd up their game and make fresh cut French fries, create a better onion ring batter, and use better rolls. The New England clam chowder could have more clams and it's a tad thick. I always added milk to thin it out a bit. Fried clams are small and so is the portion. The service is always quick and friendly. I usually get take away so the interior of the restaurant seems to be fairly standard and clean. 3.5 stars overall. read more

There's no place in the world like Ted's. I grew up in the Capital District. I've lived in Southern California for the better part of four decades now, and whenever I return "home," I always make the pilgrimage to Ted's. I was back in the area last week for the Thanksgiving holiday, and I visited the Clifton Park location. The service was friendly and accommodating, the restaurant was clean and inviting, and the fish fry was out of this world. I also threw in a clam roll because I can't get fried clams in SoCal either. For those of you who live in the Capital area, I hope you appreciate what you have in Ted's half as much as those of us who have left the area. Service! Kids at the counter who don't pay attention and worry more about their conversations with each other than making sure the order is correct. The order was missing multiple simple things that automatically come with the order. Very frustrating to have to drive back to get the missing components while the food gets cold by the time you return to eat. read more

I've lived in the Albany area for most of my adult life, and this was my first visit to Ted's. How did that happen? I have no idea. The newest location, on Western Avenue, was well laid out for social distancing. Tables were far apart, and spots for standing in the line was marked. I had ordered online, but did have to go inside to get the food. I would have preferred to have my order brought out or handed off in a drive-up window. There was a sign that said, "online orders, go to the front of the line." One improvement would be a way to get to the front of the long line without squeezing past everyone and feeling like I was butting past. If I'd known I could go around to the right, I'd have done it sooner, but it took me a while to figure it out. My food was waiting- who knows how long? I ordered at 2:30, but my pick up range was 2:45-3:15. When I went in at 3:00, as I didn't want to wait around inside, it was waiting for me with a pile of other orders. There did seem to be a couple folks waiting for their food- they must have known something I didn't. I'd rather be the one waiting, so the food is hot. It was all paid for online, and the very funny pleasant cashier gave it to me as soon as I asked. They were out of soda cup tops, and she came right over to refill and thanked me for telling her they were out. I decided to eat in my car, so here's how the food was: the large piece of fish was excellent: perfectly salty, crispy and tender. The same goes for the fries: really perfectly cooked. The hot dog roll was soft snd fresh, but not grilled. They gave satisfactory size container of catsup and one of tartar sauce. I had indicated online "tartar sauce ON the sandwich" as it specifically asked, but I see that that might get soggy if the fish had to travel a ways. The tartar sauce was very good. My criticism is around the Cole slaw: it was meh, fairly tasteless, and I didn't eat more than 2 tastes before putting the plastic top back on it. Overall, a very good meal! I'll definitely go back again. They have a bucket of fish on Fridays that I'd like to try, and also seemed to have much more on their wall menu than I saw online. Ted's Fish Fry is like a beacon in the night! The food and service are amazing!! I had been craving scallops for weeks! We happened to be in the Albany area and luckily drove by Ted's. The Sea scallops were so large, fresh and plump. I was in heaven!! Perfectly cooked and the Cole slaw that accompanied them was delicious. I have eaten here several times in the past few years. The food isn't bad and basically consistent in quality. We always order the fish fry dinner which comes with fries or onion rings, coleslaw and a thin long piece of fish extending over a hot dog bun. The fish is tender, coating a bit greasy. My onion rings definitely greasy. Dining mates french fries average. The meal comes with 3 side sauces of tarter, ketchup and cocktail sauce. Coleslaw tasty. Meal Presentation on a paper dish. About $19 + for our 2 meals to also include a beverage. The staff seemed friendly, the place clean and no fishy odor noted. Menu also includes a kids menu . Soup, usually a clam chowder , salad, burgers also on the menu with desserts such as carrot cake and bottled beverages. I certainly have had better fried fish elsewhere , however Ted's is a good start for basic fish frys read more

I paid $14 for fish that was half dried out the other half was not as dry it was supposed to be a dinner french fries were cold not salted tartar sauce was warm. I've had better food from here before, I think it depends on which Ted you go to cuz I've been to the Ted's in Latham and I've never had a problem here it's like maybe you'll get a good meal and maybe you won't but maybe I just caught Latham on a good day. Also they don't leave it like warming for you like I ordered mine to go online so when I got there it was in a bin with my name on it behind the counter but there was like no warming area or anything so it makes sense if it's a little bit cold but I don't think that's a good practice especially not serving hot food. read more

I wrote a negative review already once and had it deleted...because I'm not supposed to discuss whatever gross thing my husband ordered on a stale hot dog bun as I didn't eat it so that will go against Yelp guidelines. So here is my PERSONAL CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE (per Yelp's request): I only came here because my husband had been once before and it was good. When I came here however, the place was filthy and reeked of rotten seafood. I couldn't stand the smell and was afraid to eat anything so I ordered a soda. I'm an original,. First Art and Bobs, later Bob and Rons, I guess that has spoiled me. I am in the Albany area a few times a month. I have tried Ted's on Western Ave quite a few times. I usually order the fried clams. I have found the quality very inconsistent. The last time I ate there the clams we're very good. And few times before they were sub standard Today I had lunch and ordered the clams dinner. I received a full plate on overdone breadcrumbs sprinkled with a few well done clams. I finally showed the manager. He offered to get me more clams and told me that that is the way the clams come in. Sometimes they are long and juicy, other times short. This inconsistency is enough to stop me from trying again. I just don't know what I will get. My partner had a grilled chicken which was decent. read more

I almost gave this place an average review. The fish was good, the onion rings were perfect but the service was slow and mediocre and our fries were cold. However, we went back up for some fried clams, clams casino, and Cajun fries. All three were excellent. The only thing keeping them from fives stars is the service. read more

Wanted fried clams for my birthday as a treat. Stepped in and ordered noticed the "chef" behind the line had no hair net or cap. The person that took my order had no idea what she was doing and forgot my families order several times. While my dinner came out on time she took 5 or six minutes filling our drink order. Needless to say it was cold by the time I ate it. To make it worse my brother got sick 4 hours later. Never going back never recommending and probably going to report the food borne illness. Amending my previous review. My wife and I would definitely consider ourselves regulars at the Guilderland Ted's Fish Fry. When we were there last night, we told the owner (who took our order) that we had just recently gotten married on August 22. We were slightly confused when we were not given a total for our order. When we went to pay, the owner comped our order as a belated wedding gift. This was an extra special treat as the food was delicious as always. Ted's Fish Fry is iconic to the Capital District and I'm so glad to see it expanding to the Guilderland area. The fish fry dinner is consistently delicious and the cole slaw at this particular Ted's is the best I've ever tasted. Hubby had the scallop dinner and the scallops were out of this world. The staff is always pleasant and friendly and I really dig the retro vibe. The decor is black and white tile with a splash of red. All around great place to visit, we'll be back often. read more

Ordered ted's big fish dinner. Only came with 3 scallops, 2 shrimp, 2 small portions of haddock, maybe 10 clams. a "value size" portion of fries, small portion of cole slaw. For $17 I was hoping for a bit more seafood. I get that it's fresh. And for the taste I would give it a 5/5. But the value of the food is a 3/5. This place was so gross! I'm from the south where fried fish is cod, catfish, bass, or similar dredged in cornmeal and fried. I'm open to new experiences in other parts of the country, experiencing food in another way. So I learned a "fish fry" was a fried piece of fish on a bun. I couldn't quite get on board, so I ordered the fried fish dinner. It had unidentifiable pieces of fish, coated in a lighter batter, and then fried. The fish was rubbery and hard, not tender and flaky the way most fried fish should be (no matter if you serve it up on a bun or not). Three of my friends ordered the Fish Fry and theirs looked flaky and hearty. My husbands and my fried fish was completely different. It was like frozen fish that was fried. The french fries had absolutely no seasoning, and felt and tasted like they had been kept under a hot lamp all afternoon. For the poor quality and limited quantity of food, I was pretty surprised to pay over $20 for two people. On top of all that, my husband barley ate any of his fish, and ended up really sick. His first piece he said was mushy, like bad catfish. He stopped eating at that point, and was up several times through the night. I'll stick to my southern fried fish! read more
