    Egg and potato salad
    Hwal L.

My experience so far has been hit and miss. The main draw for me is the deli section, and that's also where they dropped the ball with the curry chicken salad which was rancid and forced me to take it back for a refund. The overcooked chicken certainly didn't help, and I'm not sure how much they care, or if they do, about their deli food being returned, because when I took it back the first response from staff was, "do you have the receipt?" Otherwise, their egg and potato salad, clam chowder, and butternut squash with pecans and cranberries were all tasty, so I guess it's been more hits than misses. I hope they continue to improve.

    Thanksgiving dinner.

We had a neighbor that has been buying a few items like shrimp and sausage long before the pandemic hit. When it became difficult or unwise to shop for meat in the grocery store during the pandemic we ordered several times from Reliable Bros. At the time we thought it was a stop gap measure until things settled down. The first time that we ordered changed our minds completely. The experience was amazing, they took our order over the phone, they described any item that we asked about, they offered suggestions and options when some meats were only sold in large volume. Then we tried the meat. Everything was amazing. The next time that we ordered we placed an order for almost $1,000 for ourselves and a few family and friends. Again the process was amazing, everything was packaged and ready when they said it would be. They cut whole pieces to order exactly has discussed. There wasn't a single thing that we ordered that wasn't of superior quality, yet very reasonably priced. The prime strip steaks were perfect and this was after we had frozen them which we never have done pre pandemic. The corned beef...nothing short of amazing. Easily the best corned beef we have ever had and we eat quite a bit of corned beef. The chicken was great, the pork chops and pork tenderloin were far better than any I have purchased at Price Chopper. The most important thing is the quality of what we eat and this more than checked that box. If you want prime meat cut or packaged exactly as you want at a price far less expensive than the grocery store and sold by nice, knowledgeable people give them a call. You won't be disappointed!

We had twelve people, although I think we were set up for sixteen. It was a BYOB vegetarian pizza party. We tried four different pizza doughs with various toppings. If my memory serves me, we had a Brown's Brewing Brown Ale crust, an organic whole wheat dough, a spicy red pepper crust, and an organic multi-grain dough. All were excellent. I have to say "if my memory serves me," because we were sharing a large variety of beers and ciders that everyone brought to share. My contributions were two Cellar Reserve beers from the Grand Teton Brewing company in Idaho - a 2008 20th Anniversary Bitch Creek Double ESB Ale (7.5% abv) and a 2009 Reinheitagebot Malt Barley Sheep Eater Scotch Ale (7.5% abv). Both were bottle conditioned and went so well with all four pizzas. We actually started with De Fazio's Greek Salad - feta cheese, field greens, just a small amount of iceberg lettuce, red onions, red roasted peppers, olives, plum tomatoes, and oil & vinegar. It was delicious with garlic bread from Prinzo's bakery. The different toppings we tried on our pizza were an Eggplant Florentine; a Puttanesca with artichokes, fresh mushrooms, calamati olives, capers & mozzarella; a mushroom and artichoke; and the fourth I don't recall its name other than it had sliced tomatoes and mozzarella cheese. We finished off with several different flavors of Gelato and mini cannoli, both of which are made on the premises. The cherries in the gelato are imported from Italy, and the vanilla gelato is topped with olive oil and sea salt. What a fantastic finish!

Well, it's what they use at Katz's in NYC. Except at Katz's they apparently boil the pastrami before serving it so it totally falls apart. That's what I learned from the passionate fellow behind the counter today. Well, that, and they had no pastrami prepared for sandwiches. Well, I'll just have to come back. For years I've been told of the legend of this place. The place where Old World Provisions meats are sliced and served on bread for a pittance. A manufacturing facility where there is a small retail operation that's open to the public. Helmbold Fritz is like a beacon on a hill. Well, it's on a hill at least. It's a bit tucked away in the warehouse district around the corner from the Franklin Ballroom. And when you pull into the driveway, you have to go around back to get to the front door. It's almost as if they don't want you there. But they totally want you there. Kinda. When I called to ask if they were open for lunch, the response was, "Lunch? We open at 11." I'm unclear if the wooden picnic table around the back of the deli was actually meant for visitors of if its for employees, but we decided to stick around and eat there instead of having a car picnic. It was a glorious day. Part of me is a bit worried about coming back here for pastrami. Because if it's half as good as I suspect it will be, it might be hard to keep me away. That fifth star is being reserved until I try their signature products. But I promise to report back.

This is a haute cuisine place that is masked by the casual dining atmosphere. Seriously: top notch chef, original recipes, a core dedication to quality seafood, paired with a fresh fish counter and some prepared food to go. We usually go for something special, but tonight I decided to get an old childhood standby, fried clams (the Boston Basket) and the fish burger sandwich. I did not expect either to be as transportive as they turned out to be. The fried clams were as delicately done as I've ever had: not crispy, but not too floppy, with excellent breading. And while I prefer my clams naked, we tried all three of the dipping sauces -- a remoulade, tartar sauce, and cocktail sauce. Now normally I loathe cocktail sauce and can take tartar sauce or leave it, so I figured we'd eat up the remoulade and ignore the other two. Still, I gave them little nibbles. Man! The cocktail sauce was like no other I've had, with a heavy hint of horseradish and a far fresher flavor than I've ever had. Then the tartar sauce -- genius! It had a delicate spicing, with capers providing a floral backdrop. That was only a preliminary, as the fish burger proved to be complex, with hints of multiple kinds of fish, and a fennel-based spicing. I ended up having that afterglow, as if I'd had a couple of cocktails and was sitting next to a fireplace, that is the hallmark of truly fine food at an advanced level. We also had the usual outstanding service, attentive without being pushy. I seriously think Hooked should consider splitting into two restaurants: one where the ambiance is upgraded to match the high caliber of the food, and another cheaper one that is strictly fast casual and takeout, and they'd more than double the business. There is a restaurant back where we come from in California, Turtle Bay, that did this with fine dining on one side and the quick, simple, and affordable food on the other side, with a big shared kitchen between them but with completely separate ambiances. That way I could come back more frequently, and still have the original Hooked for special occasions!

To explain, I ordered the cold lobster roll with fries and it was great. First off, the lobster was tender, incredibly fresh, and they loaded the roll with it. Likewise, the roll was perfect. It was airy on the inside and crunchy on the outside. My only issue with the lobster roll was that it needed more mayonnaise. In the same manner, the fries were phenomenal. To make plain, the fries were scorching hot and seasoned to perfection. Also, they had a crispy exterior with a fluffy interior. These were simply great fries. Essentially, Hooked offers great lobster rolls and fries.

It is smaller, the flesh more delicate with a more pronounced flavor. The memoir, Epitaph for a Peach, by David Mas Matsumoto, came to mind when I tasted it. I'm so glad FFF is here to remind us how produce should taste. I'd almost forgotten.

I knew nothing about this place when my wife suggested for a surprise lunch on a Saturday…read moreafternoon, and we had to rush over as they have limited hours. It was cold and raining outside and I was happy to get out of it and relax. Sadly, I quickly found out her surprise involved eating outside under a tent in the cold and rain on a November day. Sigh. At least they had blankets on the benches. We ordered in the far tent and the menu board was both helpful (it listed everything in each entree, including onions) and annoying (it indicated no substitutions were allowed, including onions). Not to be deterred, I picked the pepperoni pizza with hot honey, basil and Calabrian chili peppers. My wife ordered the Margherita pizza. Both were ready in about 15 minutes, but upon delivery to our table it became clear that a couple of things were off. First, my wife's pizza was cold and mine was pipping hot. Second, mine had so much basil- which in places was left in 2-3 leaf bunches- that perhaps they just cleaned out the pantry for the last order of the day. The crust in spots were burned, but I could live with that. However, it was so floppy that it couldn't be picked up under any condition. Everything but the outer inch of crust was like a thin wet tortilla. And their plastic cutlery wasn't up to the challenge, ripping the pizza toppings off and turning my pizza into a casserole. That being said, the flavors were wonderful on my pizza. The hot honey made for a really tasty flavor balance, and the copious amounts of curling pepperoni were a nice change of pace from the cheap stuff. The peppers were good too, and I wish I could source some locally. My wife's pizza was okay, though the whole mozzarella clumps reminded of dollops of Ricotta and they were very cold as if they were added after baking. Odd. I don't mind paying for expensive pizza if it is good. I am also not a pizza snob and will gladly eat subpar pizza. But, to overpay ($26 for mine alone) for pizza that is just a mess in a cardboard box rubs me the wrong way. The same goes for buying ($24) a cold pizza. The dessert we ordered was a Paris-Brest, and being a choux fan I absolutely loved it. Delicious with hints of coffee, almonds, nuts, and some flavorings I couldn't place, I would quickly come back here just for that. As for their pizza, I just don't know. On a nice pleasant day it would be fun, but too many mistakes on our pizzas makes me leery of ordering them again for those prices.

Plenty of intriguing small filled chocolates with artistic wrappers. I bought lots. I love the surprise of discovering what type of filling they have. They have a deli counter with lots of sausages ,ham and other meats. Plenty of cheese for sale too. They have head cheese. I've never been brave enough to try it but it seems to be a staple at Eastern European delis. I saw pastries but went for a loaf of bread this time. The friendly man at the counter told me that the bread is started in Germany and then finished here. German bread!!! Heck yes!! I'll take it. Germans are certainly known for delicious bread and this is no exception. The loaf I chose was a mix of rye and other flours. It was crusty on the outside and light on the inside with a delicate flavor. It was freshly baked and still warm. Perfect to dip into the borscht. My next treasure was chopped chicken liver. It's one of the foods you either love or hate. I have long loved it since my days as a Platt's deli girl. This is a fantastic version! Sweet and soft. I spread some of this on the bread too, heaven!! The service was attentive and personable. The bread alone is reason to go back but I also look forward to trying other lunch specials. The prices are fair as well.
