Rib eye for me, cowboy steak for the birthday boy.

I couldn't be more pleased with the supply available, fast and super friendly service. They will help you pick, give cooking advice, and are all around a great place to be able to count on when you need serious meat.

One of two 10 pound pork butts I special ordered to make low and slow BBQ. They were perfection.

Wasn't sure that this was going to be a good choice for my butchering needs. Boy was I wrong. I went in and as I was browsing the beautiful meats and sides on display in the glass case, I was chatting with the guy behind the counter about why my meat selection process is so important. I am a barbecue afficianado, and when slelecting meat, I have to choose what will cook best, and what is butchered and trimmed right. I cannot go with the vacuum packed injected nasty crap from Wal Mart. As a first example, I stopped by looking for a ribeye steak for my christmas dinner. I left with a 28 day dry aged single rib prime. And it was absolutely spectacular. Great marbling. Perfect flavor. It was over the top good. I will return for this alone over and over. Second example. I was looking for fresh pork butts for a low and slow cook for my co workers on a Monday after the holidays. He didn't have them on hand, but said he could order them. I told him what I wanted, and 1.5 days later, I had 2 well marbled 10 pound pork butts with a 1/2 inch fat cap on them. Just as I asked. Just beautiful pieces of meat, and beyond fresh. Could not have been happier, and I will post pictures to go with this. Go to this butcher shop. Talk to the people. Get your favorite cut. I guarantee you will not be disappointed.

    "Meat house marinated" steak tips

This was my first time visiting The Meat House in Albany. I have been to the Clifton Park location a few times but this one is a lot closer to me. The Meat House is primarily a butcher shop but they also carry other food stuffs like cheese, frozen foods, vegetables, sauces, fresh baked bread and rolls, etc... Among the meats they have a great slection of marinated meats, especially steak tips. The first time I bought steak tips I was very hesitant seeing they are from the bottom (which can be tough) and considering they were $10/lb. I am glad I took the risk because they are absolutely delicious and incredibly tender. I have not tried any other meat but I want to try the dry aged beef they sell to see how it is. On Sunday I picked up a few pounds of the "Meat House Marinated" steak tips, which is their own blend of spices and seasonings, and 2 baguettes which happened to be from Ninos Bakery in Albany. I cooked the steak tips medium-rare and they were a hit with the family. I wish I was able to spend more time during my visit because I would have probably picked up a few more things but the fire alarm was going off since I had walked in. Thank you to the manager who allowed me to grab my few items. I also noticed that they have a deli counter towards the back of the store and seem to make sandwiches to order. If you are looking for quality meats and products I strongly encourage you to check out The Meat House.

Walked it got bad vibes should have turned around!!!! Ordered 2 SANDWICHES one roast beef other was an Italian mix guy didn't ask us what kind of veggies we would like which I found really odd since the menu said comes with your choice of veggies and you can't see over counter on what they are doing ... got home 20 bucks later opened the wrappers and mine was a wrap ( whole reason I went here is because I was craving a crusty breaded SANDWICH not a nasty soggy tortilla) we live to far to drive back but will never ever go back meat was good quality but that's where it ended his sandwich was grossss nooooo dressing not even mayo or mustard And just looked at the Receipt and they charged us for 2 turkey sandwich's with no prices on menu board I really don't know what I paid for!

The service is terrible. Rude butchers who refuse any kind of custom cut. The store is insulting.

Ask the Community - PRIMAL: Your Local Butcher

Why does it take 20 minutes for a turkey sub? No one should go here for lunch on a workday unless you have a lot of time. This isn't the first time..

We are sorry to hear you had to wait. We are a busy place for sandwiches at lunchtime during the week and we make the sandwiches fresh. You can call ahead to place your order to save time if you like.

Yes to prepared sandwiches! NO , Never to slides deli meat, or any meat! Instead of fixing the problem they offered to refund my money. I actually wanted the board head product( without paying sales tax on meat. ) I don't understand what they thought they were or think they're doing. It's illegal!!!! Best deli meat ever ,in my opinion ,is Boars Head & they have it. I've worked at numerous deli's (Adam's) and Supermarkets, ie: Waldbaums, where you had to actually Know what was taxable and not taxable . And I'm sure a bunch of other people can't agree that, meat , in this case,is not taxable. He knew he was wrong. He said he was in the middle of updating his system. But instead of fixing the problem, and taking off the sales tax so I could leave with the meat , I would have loved to have had & give them my money at $13.99 /lb (a bit high, but was willing to pay for it) He offered my money back so that the next unknowing, tourist, (tourist town, or regular person )in particular would go in there and actually pay him the extra bit of money he's getting that you don't have to claim on your tax forms because it's not a section on the form to pay tax on because MEAT IS NOT taxable. So he's collecting money just like my vet did in Lake Katrine New York collected money on my dog's medicine on sales tax until I caught it. Medicine is not taxable at all either. Including Band-Aids, aspirin, medicated shampoo. Just be careful consumers out there. Because if you're not paying attention, they'll take your money, because that is exactly what is happening when they tax items that don't belong BEING TAXED. It's our country's 250th birthday where we didn't pay the sales tax on the TEA ( 250 years later, we're still not paying sales tax on Tea. (Or coffee) You are welcome;-)! I'm sure I am one of the first and few that have noticed tax on meat, in that store & brought it to their attention So hopefully I am not banned from that store. I will let you know in about 60 days or so. Update btw need to say, I really don't want to be that person to "hurt " local businesses but someone needs to know and if it were a big corporation I'd post it too. I obviously didn't buy the meat nor have any thoughts of posting anything about the company.or I'd have had my phone out to screen shot it. But that was my experience trying to get my favorite deli meat (and willing to pay the $2.00 tourists tax I call it jokingly) more per lb than most anywhere in Ulster county but wasn't willing to pay sales tax. Hope they have" fixed ". Their system. What a waste of a pound of turkey too. Rather than acknowledge the fact and sell it to me correctly.

We went the first time because it was one of those days, and our non-vegetarian kid was desperate to eat and we were in the neighborhood. So while he chowed down on the pork sandwich platter (which was, he reported, excellent, and I can tell you the aroma made my mouth water), we split one of each non-meat side available. Chips, Potato Salad, Mac and Cheese, the Japanese eggplant, and the Kimchi Coleslaw. (I think we passed on the beans because they had pork in them.) They were FABULOUS! I mean, I've had plenty of BBQ sides in my time, back when we were carnivores, and I've tried them all. I can think of maybe two or three others that were the equals here, but for a limited run of options, it was non-pareil. It kind of makes me wish they'd put their minds to a veggie sandwich, the name of the place notwithstanding. They do the maillard reaction proud.
