The Hannaford in Latham is huge; it is larger than the one in Niskayuna that I shop at often. It was nice that the layout at both locations is similar. The aisles in Latham are wider and can easily accommodate two carts side by side. It was a much nicer experience for this senior as compared to shopping at Whole Foods. I am making two Key Limes Pies for Easter, and I use Nellie and Joe's Key Lime bottled juice which I always find at Hannaford. At checkout, I learned that they are increasing the number of self check out lanes at this store. I am not a fan of self check out for several reasons including less people need to be employed. read more

Have you ever tried to call a grocery store? Lots of supermarkets talk about how much they value customer service. But if you ever want to put that to the test, there's no easier way than by picking up the phone. Mostly because supermarkets aren't really set up for that kind of customer interaction. Generally speaking people show to the grocery store and interact with the staff face-to-face. Calling a supermarket can be a Kafkaesque nightmare of phone trees, and extensions that ring forever without ever being answered. But one time I needed one very specific product. It was only something that could be found at Hannaford, and the closest Hannaford to my home had just run out of stock. Before making the drive up to Latham, I wanted to make sure the deli counter had a couple of hot Nature's Place rotisserie chickens, and that they could put them aside for me. I called. The phone was answered quickly, and politely. I was immediately routed to the right department. The person I spoke to was polite and reassuring. And when I arrived, everything was waiting for me as promised. That's five star customer service right there. The rest of the supermarket is just fine. It's certainly one of the better ones in the are. But except for special occasions, the closer Hannaford locations will do in a pinch. More than anything, I felt compelled to share the story of a customer service operation that really has it right. Bravo. read more

I love this Hannaford. It has a beautiful produce section and the selection is great! Lots of different vegetables and fruit to pick from. I also found my favorite cashew milk yogurt here. This grocery store has a lot of options for all different dietary needs, which is really important to me. I used the self check out today since the queues were long for the regular registers. I had to ask for help because the coupon I had for $12 off a $60 purchase in the my Hannaford app did not apply itself even after entering my phone number twice. Do NOT order a custom cake from the Hannaford bakery. Even if you feel like it's a good deal, it's NOT. I understand there is a labor shortage, and that workers need extra patience and grace from customers during the holiday season, but we confirmed MULTIPLE times about the cake order ahead of time. When we went to pick up our order, they had NO recollection of it. Not just the "wrong order" but no cake prepared whatsoever. We waited another 45 minutes for the cake, (even though this was time-sensitive--the design was also wrong) and there was nothing to compensate for the lost time and miscommunication. I've been away for a few years, but I stopped in to this Hannaford to pick up a few things while visiting home. The interior of the store looks about the same, no big updates. I'm ok with this as long as it keeps the prices down. The store is clean and well lit with ample parking. If you are looking for a more upscale grocery store experience with tons of amenities, you will need to head across the street to the flagship Price Chopper. Consider the fact that within a 5-mile radius of this store, you have a glut of competition including a Price Chopper, a Wal-Mart, a Target, a Shop Rite, Trader Joe's, BJ's, and The Fresh Market. Also consider that this is perhaps the most out-of-the-way of all these stores, being at the back end of Latham Farms. Now consider this: The place is packed with customers. That speaks volumes. This store is very representative of what I consider to be all things good in a Hannaford. That includes an excellent and well-stocked produce department, a large meat department, a good salad bar, and of course Hannaford prices. Love this place. The staff is generally friendly, the options are good (for Albany), and the price is better than most if you don't do the club coupon type thing. The produce section is always stocked, clean, and fresh. The bakery has a fair amount of options with tasty fresh baked breads. The deli is okay, but Whole Foods is the only place that beats them out in that department (marketing to different demographics I think). The meat department also has a good amount of options and they're willing to cut-to-order. Over all, the store is well laid out, the lines move pretty quickly (they always have lots of staff at the register), and the employees are helpful. The parking lot is clean and well maintained and carts are regularly brought in, thus protecting cars, people, sanity, etc. Pro Tip - the four way stop getting into this place is AWFUL!! 1-most if not all of their checkouts are always open no matter the time of day so there's never a wait. 2-their beef is always more tender, more affordable, and with a larger selection of cuts compared to their competitors. 3-their deli section, which also sells hot prepared foods, sells the most delicious house made mashed potatoes. The roasted garlic red skins are my favorite. There are no crazy ingredients other then potatoes, milk, garlic, butter etc. I couldn't make them at home as delicious or for less money. 4-the have the mini carts which I so love. Some people complain that they stick out too much. I call crazy on this because they are shorter and more compact compared to regular carts. 5-they also carry many locally made products. My favorites being a spicy green sriracha sauce made in Saratoga along with every locally made pasta sauce. 6-their Hannaford brand pre-cooked BBQ ribs are amazing. Much better then Lloyds brand but for half the price. 7- you can order you groceries online and pick them up all bagged and ready to go. They accept all coupons, select the freshest items and it's a pleasant fuss-free experience. Especial if you're a binge shopper or just can't control yourself even if you have a list or you're just really pressed for time. But what really really really... sold me on Hannaford's over their competitors was their online customer support. And the punch line îs that Hannaford's won me over about how they handled my complaint about 4 ears of corn. For real! When local fresh corn came out at the beginning of corn season I was excited. I love fresh local corn. They had it in their store. I bought 4 ears labeled as coming from a local farm I won't mention because I usually like their produce. Anyway, It was horrible. I was old, gummy in texture, not sweet and missing most of the kernels. It was really bad for fresh local corn. I messaged the store simply asking them to double check the corn they were selling because it was really bad. I didn't ask for a refund or any compensation since I believe the corn I purchased was only a dollar in total. I didn't want my dollar back but rather that they check the quality of the fresh corn at that time. However, without them calling me or questioning my report, they mailed me a $10 gift card with an actual apology letter. I did not expect this and was truly blown away. Ok so I'm a grocery store junkie. I like going to a nice clean grocery store that has high quality prepared foods and a good variety of everything else. Hannaford's is clean and well organized. The quality of their food is better than average. I don't know -- it's hard for me to explain it, but I just like being at Hannaford's. I don't know if all Hannafords have a Redbox but this one does. Unfortunately, the Albany area doesn't have a Whole Foods Market or Trader Joe's, but I think if I had to live here, I'd be okay because there's Hannaford's. read more

First off Hannaford is superior to Price Chopper or whatever they are calling themselves these days. Still the best if you had to only shop at one supermarket. Honest Weight and Trader Joe's are great but serve different purposes. This particular store was at one point the flagship of the Hannaford fleet. I had an awful experience. Manager chris at hannaford of kingston plaza was next in line after me. My cashier was busy talking to her so he gave me the wrong information on my balance and i had to put some items back. She was huffing and puffing and making rude comments and rolling her eyes. After her being clearly irritated that i was having a hard time i got upset and said you know what this lady seems like shes in a rush i dont wanna hold her up. In all my years of customer service, i dont understand how manager could be so rude to a customer. I would never handle a situation that way. As a matter of fact, you should give me her job. On or about Sept 7, 2012, I visited this Hannaford. I wanted a specific product that was web-advertised as sold in this chain. When I couldn't find it, I asked a floor clerk who couldn't find the product and was told by his manager that the product wasn't sold in the chain. I went back today, and was browsing the store and happened upon the organic dairy section. And what did I find? The product I was looking for. I would have rated this store 5 stars. Some of the staff is rather arrogant and at least one of them is RUDE. I had one nice gentleman cashier harumph at me because I was tired and just wanted to get checked out. He also didn't like the fact that I had to sign a check and had to borrow his pen (oh the pain!!!) because he MATTEROFFACTLY said "you need to sign it." and I said I needed a pen. Clean, the people are nice, and the meat prices are less expensive. Compared to Price Chopper's prices, they're a little cheaper.

If you live in troy, make the journey. This supermarket is excellent. They are well stocked. Many varieties of fish. If you can't find one it's probably because they don't carry it at the moment since that fish species was being over fished. Also a super plus is its location. Its right next to a home depot, dick's sporting, sam's club, walmart, radio shack, clothing stores, multiple food places and much more. Definitely your one stop shop location. read more

The staff doesn't care what you think, are reluctant to help, and act like they are better than you. Also, there are lots of cars parked in the fire lane on a regular basis.
