Once upon a time, if you wanted KBS you had to wait in line for one four pack. Now it's no limit in the chip aisle. At least last year.

Have you ever tried to call a grocery store? Lots of supermarkets talk about how much they value customer service. But if you ever want to put that to the test, there's no easier way than by picking up the phone. Mostly because supermarkets aren't really set up for that kind of customer interaction. Generally speaking people show to the grocery store and interact with the staff face-to-face. Calling a supermarket can be a Kafkaesque nightmare of phone trees, and extensions that ring forever without ever being answered. But one time I needed one very specific product. It was only something that could be found at Hannaford, and the closest Hannaford to my home had just run out of stock. Before making the drive up to Latham, I wanted to make sure the deli counter had a couple of hot Nature's Place rotisserie chickens, and that they could put them aside for me. I called. The phone was answered quickly, and politely. I was immediately routed to the right department. The person I spoke to was polite and reassuring. And when I arrived, everything was waiting for me as promised. That's five star customer service right there. The rest of the supermarket is just fine. It's certainly one of the better ones in the are. But except for special occasions, the closer Hannaford locations will do in a pinch. More than anything, I felt compelled to share the story of a customer service operation that really has it right. Bravo.

Clean, the people are nice, and the meat prices are less expensive. Compared to Price Chopper's prices, they're a little cheaper.

I have been to this Whole Foods before but never felt motivated to write a review. However,…read moretoday's visit incites commentary. Reasons for visit: 1. They stock Lamb Sausage which I need for my Easter Brunch, and it is not available at other places in my area. Bought it. 2. I want a jar if their Organic Vietnamese Cinnamon which Consumer Reports says has one the lowest levels of LEAD as compared to the majority of cinnamon offered by other markets. Bought it. Having just come from Trader Joe's on Wolf Road, I noticed some profound differences including: --Really high prices at Whole Foods. For example, quality Lasagna I buy regularly at TJs is $7.99. A comparable Lasagna at WF was $13.99! Really? Same size. --Many aisles were blocked with very large carts used by staff for restocking. Traffic jams! See photo. --Stock is displayed on shelving that goes from floor level to about 10 plus feet high! You need to get someone with a picker tool to reach items on top shelves. It was uncomfortable to get the items practically on the floor on the lower shelves. Not accessible to those with back issues. See photo. --Fewer staff on floor available to answer questions. --One check out station. I had planned on getting some prepared food from the self serve food section, but at 11:20 am none of it was out on the steam table. Salad Bar was available, but did not interest me today. I will continue to be a regular at TJs and only go to WF if necessary. TJs provides a more pleasant shopping experience with better prices.

Wanted a sweet treat and came across this chocolate peanut butter pie slice at Whole Foods. It was…read more16% off so it came to under $3. I'm a HUGE fan of chocolate peanut butter pie so you know I have to judge. This one was ok but nowhere near as good as the one I make at home. The chocolate crust was VERY dry and was all crumbs when I put my fork into it. I had to use the filling as a paste to get the crust in one bite. The flavor was eh. You can definitely tell that they use healthier ingredients which makes it lack in good flavor. When I make it at home the crust is never crumbly and the flavor tastes like actual peanut butter and chocolate, not like a diet taste. Probably wouldn't get it again. It comes off as a fake chocolate peanut butter pie and it's not worth the calories. Next time I'll just get a Snickers bar or something from the mall next door.

We had twelve people, although I think we were set up for sixteen. It was a BYOB vegetarian pizza party. We tried four different pizza doughs with various toppings. If my memory serves me, we had a Brown's Brewing Brown Ale crust, an organic whole wheat dough, a spicy red pepper crust, and an organic multi-grain dough. All were excellent. I have to say "if my memory serves me," because we were sharing a large variety of beers and ciders that everyone brought to share. My contributions were two Cellar Reserve beers from the Grand Teton Brewing company in Idaho - a 2008 20th Anniversary Bitch Creek Double ESB Ale (7.5% abv) and a 2009 Reinheitagebot Malt Barley Sheep Eater Scotch Ale (7.5% abv). Both were bottle conditioned and went so well with all four pizzas. We actually started with De Fazio's Greek Salad - feta cheese, field greens, just a small amount of iceberg lettuce, red onions, red roasted peppers, olives, plum tomatoes, and oil & vinegar. It was delicious with garlic bread from Prinzo's bakery. The different toppings we tried on our pizza were an Eggplant Florentine; a Puttanesca with artichokes, fresh mushrooms, calamati olives, capers & mozzarella; a mushroom and artichoke; and the fourth I don't recall its name other than it had sliced tomatoes and mozzarella cheese. We finished off with several different flavors of Gelato and mini cannoli, both of which are made on the premises. The cherries in the gelato are imported from Italy, and the vanilla gelato is topped with olive oil and sea salt. What a fantastic finish!
